Well, last night one of my garage door tension springs snapped. It gave me a good 11 years so I can't complain. I ended up having a great experience with Vlad from FixMan Garage Repair. I contacted him last night a 8:30 via Yelp and he responded immediately. Gave me a reasonable estimate range based on the information I provided and said he would be here between 9-11 am today. He arrived at precisely 9:30 this morning and got right to work. He recommended replacing both springs (different sizes) as they were installed together. Good thing too, as the second spring broke as he was releasing the tension. He gave me a great price to cover two springs (high quality 10K cycle guarantee), installation and resetting the open/close parameters of my LiftMaster Jack Shaft opener. He was done by Noon including a trip to the supply house to get the size spring he didn't have. He worked very carefully and deliberately and show me why he never uses power tools to attach the springs to the torsion tube. I appreciated the education. Had the dreaded sudden spring break on our garage door on one side and caused the door to damage the rails and sag down more on one side. Of course it also was at the end of the day on a weekend which means we would have a garage door broken and stuck open till the next week. He was able to get the door closed safely for the night and would be able to return the next day to install the new springs. We called FIXMAN out for a dryer issue, which is the business side we know them from. We know and have trusted them for years. We didnt even know they also specialize in garage doors. We happened to tell Victor about our noisy 25 year old garage door system and that we had recently had our springs replaced. He was honest and said the person who replaced the springs had given us a fair price and done a good job. He was nice and he didn't try to bag on the other guy. Respect. On his way out he took a good look at our garage door system and told us the rollers really needed to be replaced and it needed lubing. He explained exactly WHY they really needed to be replaced. Having been a mechanic for 30 years, I knew what he said was exactly correct. He didn't ask to do the job, he just matter of factly let us know what it needed to properly keep going. As he was walking down the driveway to leave we called him back and asked him about doing the job. He happened to have the parts needed in his van and 30 minutes later we had a QUIET garage door. He reinspected everything and let us know that the motor would most likely be the next thing to go since it was already 25 years old. He said it was good for now though. We appreciated the inspection and work and advice. We are absolutely thrilled to have the peace of mind with the dryer completely fixed AND an old garage system that will keep going now.
