The website never works so you can't get your account online, it keeps telling you bad user name or password until after 3 times it locks you out of the account. Service is horrendous ...if you have to refer to someone at the branch as service . Attempted to open a commercial account, was told at the branch to reschedule , for contact from a representative to confirm and set up appointment as needed. Returned after confirming appointment a week later , staff then concluded I didn't bring proper documents needed to proceed , what a joke ! Everything gathered prior , was done at the request of the representatives who acknowledged the appointment to begin with , so there wouldn't be an issue on a second visit. My advice is ....don't take my word on what a circus this bank is ...look at the reviews on the Web , they speak volumes...Good luck !! read more

It's really horrible that I had such bad luck getting my mortgage sold to Flagstar bank as they are absolutely terrible. Customer service is non-existent, customer service representatives are extremely rude over the phone, and will talk over you while you are still trying to explain something. All their correspondence are done via snail mail and you can't get a copy of it via email unless you call customer service and placed on hold. Paper communication is very archaic way to communicate time sensitive items. I'm really hoping that perhaps my loan will get transferred to another bank in the future so I don't have to deal with Flagstar anymore. read more

I bought a $20,000 CD from this bank. When it matured I had somewhere else to reinvest this money so I just wanted my funds returned to me. Their teller told me no cash. She offered a $6 bank check or a $31 wire transfer. This fee was not part of the written agreement. I just buy CDs through Schwab brokerage where these chicken shit fees don't happen. read more

If I could give them zero stars, I would. They purchased my mortgage about nine months ago, and I refinanced in December. During the process, they provided an inaccurate payoff statement, and now they expect me to pay an additional $5,400 to cover the amount they failed to include. Prior to this, they lowered my mortgage payment without properly collecting the correct amount for taxes, resulting in a $2,400 bill during the refinance. They take no accountability for their mistakes, yet if my payment were late, they would certainly hold me accountable. read more

This company existence is to hurt you and your credit. If your mortgage was with them, you'd be miserable. Their messaging system is one way only. You cannot reply to their message. The customer service is horrible. I always made on time payment, but for one time, the check was returned for some reasons and I did not know about it. No notification or alert. They do not bother to reach out to me for the failed payment. When I logged in next month to make the payment for the current month, then I saw the last payment was failed. They do not bother to report the 30 day late payment to the credit bureau to destroy your credit. I reached out to them and I was told that "They will not remove the flag". read more

Three weeks passed by and never called. I called & left message, she didn't call back. After 1.5 month I called again and she said she forgot about it but that they are still hiring. She set up a 2nd interview. Then the day of the interview she never called me. I reached out three times and she replied a week later apologizing because she had a conflict and could not call me. I mean at this point this is just another 1 star review which speaks more than anything I can write but here it is - Absolute worst decision of my adult life. I have not had one thing go right. The current problem is I can't pay my loan. All I want to do is put money on my principal so I can get out of debt. After the most illogical policy that only allows me to pay on it for 8 days a month, the system does not work. It tells me I have to pay any outstanding balance before I can make a payment, but everything is current. That is confirmed with my monthly call to them because I just cannot make my payment. No resolution and the ticketing system is a joke. They give a generic answer, not about my situation, two weeks after you placed a ticket. They also close it so you can't even communicate with anyone. They were recently acquired by Mr. Cooper, and I expected so much more from them. I actually have Mr. Cooper for my mortgage and have never had an issue, but this Flagstar side is a complete disaster and ruining the Mr. Cooper name. Seriously... don't do it. read more

If I could leave a zero rating I would. I opened a CD for a significant amount that recently matured. When I contacted them to cash in the CD I was told I needed "to close the account & the check would be mailed" to me. Now I am NOT able to log into my account (which they closed when I closed my account to get my money). The last time I was able to log in my account showed a zero balance & I never received ANY correspondence from them that a check was mailed or even if one was cut. POOR POOR POOR BANKING PRACTICES... I just started with Flagstar. I signed up for the 5.55% interest rate savings account. I don't feel they are trustworthy because they are scamming (stealing) money from people. How? They sit on your money when you transfer it in and refuse to pay interest on it. They do the same when you transfer it out. Highly unethical. When confronted, they push this B.S excuse how it takes forever for it to go from one bank to another...as if we are living in the 1950s. When I said that other banks transfer money in the same day (they do too, when they send their micro deposits) and that when I put in the request, all the computer transfers happen instantly because they are electronic, they couldn't say anything in response. I finally got to talk to someone "higher up" who said she would put me in contact with the president of the bank (I asked for this) but so far, they must be scared to be put to total shame and embarrassment because they have yet to contact me. So long story short, don't trust your money with a bank that steals from you!! I will be closing the acct because it costs me MORE money in interest to transfer the money to them, then they will pay back to me. Even when bring it to their attention (really? you know they hope YOU don't notice) they ignore you and hope you just go away. My Poppy Bank in CA pays 5.5% and it would take years to make back the .005% that I have with Flagstar. I started getting notifications of money being spent and Flagstar noticed right away that this was not the normal for me and contacted me. The money was back in my account by this morning. Why 2 stars? Because my attempt to refinance made me feel like they were trying to rip me off. --- --- --- Flagstar was the third bank to buy my mortgage from my previous lender and up until now, everything has been fine. I have my auto-pay setup for the first of the month, they take my money and 30 days later, we repeat the process. Pretty standard operating procedure. But as interest rates have plummeted, we thought it would be a good idea to look into refinancing. We did what anyone in our situation should do and we shopped around. One of the three companies I inquired with was Flagstar, since they were my current lender. I inquired on the website and Sandy Mallon was assigned as my loan officer. He sent me some paperwork for me to sign with the estimates and explained what everything meant over the phone. All of it looked incredibly confusing. He talked me through it, but he was doing so at the same speed that he would be talking to a fellow member of the mortgage industry. At the end of the phone call, everything sounded good, but I wanted to send to some folks I know in real estate I trusted would know more than me. Universally, they all agreed - the fees were too high. I went back to Sandy and said - the fees are too high. We're not interested. He emailed and eventually called me back. He wanted to walk me through it all one more time. The gist of his explanation was basically, "I know you see these fees here, but if you look over here in Section F - Row 12, you'll see that those fees are canceled out. And I know it says we're gonna charge you $2800 for this, but ignore that. We're not." Once again, it all sounded good. But it also felt weird to sign on the dotted line when the paperwork very plainly stated that we'd be charged all of these fees. I got a used-car salesman vibe from Sandy and just did not trust that he was being honest about certain fees being waived. I was getting to the point where I was feeling more comfortable with a lender at a different company that a family member has known and worked with for years. That person was the complete opposite of Sandy, in that, he was helpful and stayed on the phone with me for an hour to explain the entire process and answer every single question. With Sandy, he acted like he couldn't get off the phone fast enough. But I wanted to give Sandy one more shot, I just had one main question for him - shedding away all of the fees and taxes and exchanges of money, ultimately, what was Flagstar charging me for this refinance. His reply was a two word email. "Section A." Section A was the aforementioned area that had us paying thousands of dollars in fees, that Sandy said we'd be reimbursed for. Cutting through all of the reimbursements, I just wanted to know what I'd be charged. Instead of being helpful in explaining that, he sends me a passive-aggressive response like that. If everything Sandy said was true, he was offering me a better deal than the other guy. But based on his attitude alone, I opted to go with the other company. read more

So disappointed in Flagstar. They canceled my Home Equity Line of Credit without even notifying me (I received a letter about 2 weeks after it was canceled). It was canceled because my Credit score fell like 1 point below their threshold. It turned out to be a big mistake, but it was too late. I called several times and they never reinstated it. So I changed banks. About 5 months after they canceled it, I received an email that it was reinstated - I had closed it 2 months prior to that email. They also canceled my ability to transfer money from Flagstar to my new bank Huntington. Have no idea why and they did not know either. They were supposed to check it out and get back with me BUT never did. Then 2-3 months later they called me about it. I told them that was months ago and I wasn't interested. Well, I received an email from Flagstar this morning telling me I could now transfer to Huntington AND that my HELOC loan was reinstated. NO THANK YOU TO FLAGSTAR. I needed to have a school permission slip notarized for myself and my son, who is a minor, and because he doesn't have an account, they would not notarize the document, which is crazy to me. It would make more sense if they had said it was because he doesn't have a state ID, but refusing because he doesn't have an account there is absurd. I'll keep his account at Capital One for sure. During underwriting, I received multiple requests for documentation that I had already provided. The requests trickled in one at a time, rather than a comprehensive list of what I needed to provide. I had to explain some of the documents to the originator and/or processor, because they kept insisting that I had not paid a particular creditor off. They also wanted to have my car loan paid off through the HELOC, instead of me paying it off myself, which would have meant a higher interest cost for me. It took a very long time to get to closing, and I had to reach out several times to ask about the status. On the day of closing, the paperwork indicated that I was taking a large draw at closing. This was not true and had not been approved by me. We had to delay closing while the paperwork was redone. I was initially told that Flagstar would pay all closing costs, if I kept the HELOC open for 3 years. During the closing, I received notice that I would have to pay some closing fees. We paused and the closing attorney and I reached out several times to the originator and processor, without a response. We waited for over an hour. I finally received a call from someone else who said that Flagstar would not pay the fees as promised. I am very disappointed by this experience, and I would not recommend Flagstar. read more

Flagstar is the worst bank ever. Flagstar just took over New York bank In TomsRiver, New Jersey. I have two accounts there one that's liquidated and then the other account that's not. I sat down with Camilla and went through everything and I decided to keep both accounts so I could still gain the interest and if I need the money, I can get it. Well, needless to say, they lied to me so they can have me sign up through them for another year. I will NEVER bank with Flagstar again. As soon as my contract is up, I am pulling my money out and will never bank with them again nothing. CAN'T GO NEGATIVE WITH STARS?!? This company is very deserving of such an option, believe me. Worst company and bank to ever do business with. They purchased my mortgage back in 2020 after my last refi, and they immediately screwed up my property taxes coming from my escrow. It took 2 months to finally get it straightened out, but by then it was already too late to claim your property taxes on your taxes for the year. They then paid out another payment to my city for property taxes at the end of may when no payment was due. When I called support about this, they couldn't tell me why the payment was made, who made it if it was or was not automated, etc. Only thing they could tell me is that it happened. Even now, in trying to cancel my escrow account, I have an official letter from them dated 5/27/2021 stating that my escrow account would no longer exist as of June 3, 2021. It is now 6/28/2021, and come to find out that my account still exists, still has money in it, and they are still expecting a payment to include escrow funds for the month of July. Take your money and literally run away, to any direction other than FlagStar Bank. This is no bank at all, it is a BIG F***ING JOKE!! read more

In November 2020 when we started this process we were dealing with a local mortgage person. Then suddenly she no longer work for the company after working there for 30 years. Since then we have been shoveled around to different people requesting the same information that we had already provided multiple times. We have been given different amounts needed for closing every time they contact us and ask for additional information. Can you give less than one star???? Flagstar Bank is the absolute worst mortgage lender/servicer I've ever dealt with. As a severely Disabled US ARMY Veteran, I refinanced into a 30 yr VA LOAN with Flagstar and I have to say that I wouldn't recommend Flagstar Bank to my worst enemy. I know that there are people in the world that just don't care, BUT Flagstar Bank is the best at it. The customer service is ridiculously inconsistent, the technology they use is inefficient, evidently their security protocols are horrible because they had a hack and didn't know or didn't let customers affected know for months and I have about 30 more complaints that I could list. It's really, really sad that this is the way business is done these days. We experienced a major disaster (an accidental fire) that destroyed our home before the 2020 COVID pandemic. We lost everything. The trauma of the experience was unfortunate, but we got through it. Coming out of the situation after completely rebuilding the home and working to rebuild our lives after losing everything literally was quite the experience, but again we got through it only to then be kicked while getting up by Flagstar Bank which misrepresented and then tried to take advantage of us by trying to raise our interest rate under the guise of helping us during a very tragic time for my family. The bottom line, heed my advice, run from anything or anyone related or referring Flagstar Bank as a mortgage lender or servicer. I did my best to keep this review as professional as possible and simply want to share information that might help to inform others so that they look a little deeper and possibly ask more or better questions to avoid some of the experiences the I've had to with Flagstar Bank as a mortgage lender/servicer. I really wish the VA would review lenders appropriate levels of service because Flagstar doesn't deserve the honor or serving not one more Veteran. Just a damn shame. read more

I set up a High Yield Savings account on Monday afternoon July 1st 2024. I made a small deposit, and it went through in LESS than 24 hours later. When I saw that it was there and I was getting interest on it in such a quick amount of time, I decided to make a LARGE deposit. It wouldn't let me, it didn't link the account on the 1st deposit!?! So I called and was told I'd have to manually link the account and Flagstar would have to make deposits and withdrawals into my account at the other bank then I'd have to log back into Flagstar and answer trivia questions about what was deposited into my other account. SIGH, I'm wanting interest immediately and they are dragging this out. 24 ISH hours later July 3rd it was done at at my other bank. Logged back into Flagstar, answered the questions, made the deposit and it said it'd be 6 DAYS (July 9th) before it would be complete. 6 days before they'd start paying me interest!! I called and complained, was told well tomorrow is 4th of July and there is the weekend. What BS, I'm wanting my interest and all they do is STALL!! My money left US BANK on Friday the 5th and Flagstar had it! But they would not give me interest until Tuesday the 9th. Yes they have a disclaimer of 3 business days. Kinda funny how my 1st deposit (small) was less than 24 hours, and they are paying me interest, but a $250,000.00 DEPOSIT AND THEY HOLD MY MONEY TO NOT PAY ME INTEREST!! I called and complained, she sounded very understanding and polite. Made a case to go to a back office, gave me the number. Called 2 days later and was told sorry , we don't care (NOT in those words but that's the way she came across). To add insult to injury they place a 9 "business-day" hold on both deposits! Had I known it was gonna turn out like this I'd made my big deposit all at once when opening the account and would have been earning my interest in less than 24 hours!!!!!!!!! But there is more, due to their high interest rate 5.5%APY at this time or 5.41% daily interest I decided to deposit more direct from Goldman Sach, and they "GS" are usually fast (less than 24 hours when it comes to moving money) I went into their on line account and initiated the link bank account process. They have to make withdrawal and deposits then I have to come back and answer the trivia questions (standard process really). I get a email at 11:45 p.m. on Friday night 7-12-24 that they are unable to link account because (I knew the account and routing numbers were correct as I checked them 4 plus times carefully) my Flagstar account is unable to receive funds. I call 10 minutes after opening business hours on Monday morning 7-15-24 and waited on hold for a little over 30 minutes on a total of 47 minute call. Every call into them is a long wait and a chore!! The lady was nice, had to make another case# and still did not have a answer on the 2nd case@ that was created after I asked to speak to a manager or "escalations" person about being turned down on that 6 days of no interest fiasco. She said the problem is internally on Flagstar's end and someone will be intouch via phone call within 24 hours! To add more insult to my injury, while on the phone with that same rep, I discover online that they have reduced my daily interest rate down to 5.32%. However they offer a 5 month guarantee on the Flagstar website direct. I signed up via My Banking Direct. The lady on the phone suggested I create another account direct via their website and lock in that guarantee via offer on the website. Can transfer the money internally. Sounds good but how much more hassle can they give me in that process? Dealing with this Flagstar bank has been nothing but a problem and many phone calls sitting on hold since July 1st and today is the 15th! Their online website is antiquated and hard to navigate resulting in more phone calls just to get my account and routing number lol (disgusted sarcastic laugh). Don't do business with these people, they don't care about you or paying you your interest on your money to use your money. The phone call experience is a long hold time cause of other people with similar problems! Also they received over a BILLION dollars in bail out money from bad commercial investments early in '24. Do not go over the FDIC limit with them, they could possibly fail. I see the writing on the walls! They will encourage you to deposit $500k with them in one account. I didn't know that I could do this and didn't trust them on this till I called the FDIC myself and verified that if I had 2 beneficiaries I could deposit up to $500k. That itself was nice to know. I have been with Flagstar for four years now. First with a mortgage, then with a HELOC loan. They were very easy and straightforward to work with. However, they have been recently sold and perhaps that's where things have gone awry. I have recently applied to extend the HELOC loan and I have received the most garbage service. I have been working with Ben Herrera as a loan officer and it's astounding how much they are working against the customer. The response times for receiving information is dragged, the appraisal information is shockingly off and when information is provided to them it is overlooked and uncared about. I have worked with banks before and it's no walk in the park but working with them has been a new level of low. read more

Worst mortgage company I have ever been sold to by a previous mortgage. Customer service is ineffectual and there is no way to talk to a manager/director without going thru the automated system and customer service. CS reps continually will drop calls if you have a complaint, requiring you to go thru the system again in order to get another rep. We were notified that our mortgage had been sold to this company but not told how to pay. I set up the auto payment from my bank - as always done with previous lenders - and the 1st payment was kicked back to my bank b/c of "incorrect biller account". Called Flagstar and was told the 1st payment from a new account needs to be sent to a different address as it hasn't been set up in the system yet. The following month the payment was kicked back again for the same reason, called again, was told this time the payment needs to be sent to another address since the account is now active in the system. I asked if I could pay over the phone as the payment would be considered late and I didn't want to get a late fee - was told I would be charged $30 if I paid thru the customer service rep or $15 if I paid thru the auto service. Needless to say, I paid thru the website and surprise - I wasn't charged a late fee? Third month - payment kicked back again for the same reason, called AGAIN, and was told it was because the wrong loan number was recorded on the bank bill pay site. How many people do you have to talk to to get a straight answer in order to pay a bill? Does this company want their customers to be late in order to slap a huge late fee on them and get a mark on their credit score? My guess is YES! I have canceled the autopay from my bank and am going to pay directly on their website until the house with this mortgage company is sold. I have a feeling if the house is sold, the autopay will suddenly work and they will still be collecting the mortgage. read more
