Haven't been to a flame broiler restaurant in a long time. Decided to stop here to grab some grub for my folks. I was pleasantly surprised. They have clean interior and decent restrooms. They have two entrances so that is helpful. And the staff were friendly and offer fast service. I went in for a quick lunch pickup. My order was taken by someone noted on the receipt as 'Gee.' She appeared to be a young girl, dressed inappropriately for work, and was quite rude. I may have been one of only two women in the restaurant, so I'm unsure of how she treated the other woman, however, she was very nice to all the men. She called out their orders and thanked them for their purchases. When I received my order, it was just tossed to me with no words exchanged. I noticed I didn't have a fork or napkin, so I asked for them. Without even looking at me, she handed me a fork and napkin over her shoulder; her long nails were unflattering. These employees need to understand that business is business, and there is a time and place for different ways of dressing and behaving. You really can't go wrong with a chicken bowl...but this location is seriously one of the worst. & ONLY BECAUSE OF the costumer service. It's sad because I work right down the street and frequent this location at least 4x a month... but costumer service is awful! I've had the same cashier time after time and I always try to ignore her rude attitude but someone needs to do something about it. I made a comment on how it was rude to put and leave my money on the counter instead of handing it to me as I did to her and she just looked at me and turned around. I then asked her for her name and she said "look at your receipt". I receive my food and ask her for her manangers name and she continues to walk away and replies "we don't have a manager". Sorry lady, but I'm not stupid. The cook RUBEN clearly sees I'm annoyed and asks me if everything was okay so I ask about the manager and he gives me his name. He then asked if something was wrong so I proceed to tell him about the lady "GEE" always having an attitude and he seems sincere and apologizes on her behalf. Honestly, just because of his courtesy and costumer service this man deserves a raise he asked about my food and I told him there's no complain there. Regardless. I have been coming to this flame broiler for a few months now. They recently have been under new ownership and the whole store has done a complete 180. Their customer service has drastically improved, I am actually being greeted and welcomed by who I believe is the new owner. I think he mentioned his name is Gazi. It's heartwarming to receive the same hospitality you would from a small mom and pop spot, but at a chain restaurant. The store also seems to be much more clean than it was before. As someone who is picky about cleanliness in restaurants, I have noticed them doing more to keep the floors and tables cleaner. Most importantly, I've noticed the veggies and avocados are a bit fresher than usual. Out of the few flame broilers in the area, they have all been okay but I think this location has become my new favorite spot for my lunch breaks. I gave thumbs up for this company to add organic non-gmo tofu to their broiler protein. Yay! I have been to Flame Broiler 2 times since then and I will be back again. I didn't know they serve brown rice. So the bowl with brown rice, broiled organic tofu, vegetables, and sauces is really healthy. I believe their stuff is non-gmo. I believe the bowl is around 600 calories and 450 mg sodium. Kudos! Also, the bowl has 5 oz of protein. The organic tofu bowl is filling and tasty. Loving it. Please keep up the good work. read more

Well turns out it was new management, so why not give my continued support? I'm an advocate for great service , even if the food was just "par". Ive received great service in the past and at times, addressed by my name; just tricks of the trade put to use. Which brings me to this location. There's parking available in the back and a convenient entrance so no need to walk around to the front. The place is clean, I was greeted and my order came out in no time! As I was eating I was approached by a man and asked how everything was and if I needed anything. I sparked up a conversation and found out the place was under new management. Horrible. There was a bug in one of my beef bowls I wish I could post the pictures I took. I will never go here again. It makes me wonder what is going on in that kitchen. I called back the store kept telling me the manger wasnt in. It took 2 days for me to talk to a manger and when I did the manager said he doesn't understand how that could happen. He then questioned me about whether I got vegetables because that could be the only how a bug got in my bowl. So he basically admitted that they've had bugs before, but still gave me a hard time. DO NOT EAT HERE!!! MOLD IN FOOD! I had ordered food to go, a chicken plate which included an orange. I put the orange on my little ones plate along with a portion of the meal. After a minute or so my husband noticed that there was mold on the orange! Yuck! Luckily it had not been eaten yet but all the other food had touched it and was contaminated. :( I am also pregnant, if I had gotten sick from it my baby could've died!! I called them up to let them know and they told me to come back for a refund. I was unable to go that same day so I went back the following day. When I got there they asked for the receipt which I couldn't find. They said they told the person on the phone that they needed it. I was the one who called, they didn't tell me that. A five-star review for a Flame Broiler? No, really, I'm serious. This place just gets it. Take a clean, comfortable location, add great customer service, and provide fresh, affordable food. What do you get? Happy customers. This Flame Broiler is located near the intersection of E. 17th and Main. Look for the Norm's Diner. The parking lot is located behind the restaurant and, unfortunately, doesn't have a whole lot of parking. Luckily, I've always found a spot. I usually get the beef bowl or the beef plate with veggies. The regular beef bowl is only $5.94! It's served with a mountain of rice and lots of tender beef. The green onions add a nice kick, so be sure to get them with your bowl. Add a little spicy or magic sauce and you have a great meal on your hands. The beef plate with veggies is similar to the bowl, but offers a little more variety since it's served with cole slaw, veggies, and orange slices. With the additional veggies, I believe it comes out to $7.95. This is an excellent place to enjoy delicious food without burdening your wallet or diet. Here are a few things to note... -Add veggies to any plate for $0.50 -Add white meat chicken for $1.50 -No extra charge for brown rice! -No charge for extra onions -Most bowls are around 600 calories -Most plates are around 800 calories -No trans fats! The cook at this location made the absolute best tofu bowls we have had! He really put extra care and time making sure he didn't burn it but got nice crispy grill marks all around! It was perfect. We have 3 different flame broiler locations that are the same distance from our house, but this experience sealed this location as our new go-to when we want our tofu bowl fix! I am not new to the Flame Broiler, but this location is my favorite for these reasons: 1. the cashier is always friendly. 2. the owner guy is just as friendly, taking time to make sure the order is correct, and makes sure to ask you to come back again. 3. this location does NOT charge extra for brown rice. The other ones I've been to does!! 50c 4. They'll deliver for free!! I go to this location at least 4x's a month, and never had a problem with my order. I'll even drive to this location to pick up food on my way home, rather than stopping by the one in Fullerton, which is only a few blocks from my home. read more

I have recently been going to this Flame Broiler as the one closer to my work closed. This location is clean and food comes out hot and fast. My only complaint is that the charge extra for a veggie base. I have been to several other Flame Broilers and never been charged for this. Very impressed! I am a total noob to all these new bowl joints poppin up these days. I've always been reluctant to stray from Yoshinoya but armed with a coupon, I decided to finally check out another joint with white bowls and orange writing in Flame Broiler. I got the Works: half chicken, half beef with rice and vegetables underneath. I love how they let you get brown rice here and not charge you extra! I wish Yosh would do this too! The bowl was topped so much that it was a challenge in trying to eat it. I don't know if I got hooked up or if this is normal since it was my first time at a Flame Broiler, but I wish the food was served in a rectangular flat container instead of the bowl because it was nearly impossible to eat rice, meat, vegetables at the same time. A cube of chicken would topple down the mound of meat everytime I made a wrong move; it was like playing jenga with food! I guess if my only complaint is getting a fat bowl, that's not too bad. The food itself was good; don't forget to add some magic sauce. The self-serve hot sauce is yuck, so ask for the sriracha they keep next to the register. Service is excellent and the place is super clean. Great first time experience at this chain. read more

And if you want to substitute white rice for brown there is no charge. This is awesome especially since the Flame Broiler in Orange has different prices for each bowl, they charge you to substitute brown rice aaaaand they also charge you an extra $1.50 to pay with a card. My 2nd all-time must stop by favorite place to eat in the OC! I have to give respect to the Flame Broiler on Brookhurst for getting me addicted to the food. When I used to live in Costa Mesa several years ago, I got myself, my best friend, his roommates, and their girlfriends hooked on this place. The hot hot grill gave the chicken and beef that good sear that helps seal in the juices, the bed of fluffy rice provided the heft and substance that goes great with properly grilled meats, and of course I love the fact that I could overdose on as much chopped green onion as I wanted on my bowl. At the time it was such a great alternative to the fast food options out there and remains so til today. And since I'm Asian, I loves me some good rice bowl! But since I've not been to the Brookhurst location since I moved away, I have to give props to the E. 17th Street Flame Broiler. Whenever I drive through the area, I try to make it a point to stop by as they're conveniently located off a quiet side street behind a gas station. I've been going here for the last 2-3 years and they never dissappoint. Today was no exception! I came by to get my fix and lo and behold, something I've never seen before... *wait for it* *wait for it* ... they have MINI bowls! Half the size of the regular bowl, still tasty as hell. While they sell it at the same price, your drink comes included in the fee. Now I love me the regular size, but I've been trying to portion control my meals and I realize eating a lot of rice can make you fat (there's also genetics involved but that's a topic for a completely different review site). So I'm glad they now give you the option to add as much or as little sauce as you like (I like it sans sauce) and that I can control the portion size.
