Been going to this place many times over the years. I stopped by here early in the morning on Friday 7/10/2026 to get a breakfast sandwich before work. To my knowledge I don't think this place has any connection to Charley's cheesesteaks. Really great tasting home made food. Restrooms are sometimes questionable. Interior and exterior is pretty clean. Staff are always friendly and professional. Prices are decent and plenty of parking is available. This place is one of a long list of great burger joints that have been here for a long time, long before the craze for "smash burgers" came to exist. This was mine & my boyfriend first time coming here since his brother came here this morning and recommended for us to go here. Today, we got frisco burger with fries along with horchata and carne asada nacho fries upgrade. Their menu consist of breakfast, burgers, sandwiches, dinner, Mexican, salads, sides, kids, and beverages. Frisco burger has a beef patty with bacon, lettuce, tomato, American cheese, and 1000 Island dressing, served on grilled Parmesan cheese bread. The burger was decent, it didn't quite blow me away. I felt like having a chili burger, but they didn't offer one. They do sell chili, so I asked for a bacon burger w chili. The total ended up about $12 and some change. Very disappointing experience. I placed my order and waited, only to find out they had given my food to someone else. Instead of acknowledging their mistake, the staff just stared at me for about 30 minutes without saying a word or asking what I was waiting for. Eventually, they remade my order, but no one apologized. The location 140 S Grand Ave, Santa Ana, CA 92701 is horrible. I waited for 40 minutes in the drive thru. The lady Diana T is so rude all the time. I came back to update my review to add a screenshot of a message an EX EMPLOYEE sent me after reading my review -- that's how accurate this review is: Before I begin, just know I'm actually born & raised here in Santa Ana -- like I actually have an inclination to buy from local businesses & support these places that have been around for a while. Mind you, I've given this place now MULTIPLE "second shots" & have decided this review is literally NECESSARY now so that people can know what's been going on. As you see on the other recent reviews here, Charlie's has gotten my orders wrong a number of times. I've lost count- not once , not twice. This is usually in the drive thru-- these occurrences, so you know, were during busy/not busy hours. So I didn't blame it on an "over worked" staff. Whether it's the drink, or the side orders that I've repeatedly said through the mic, at least ONE thing will come up wrong. That is the expectation of this place now. I stopped ordering the "Faby's Bowl" (arguably one of their more healthier options) altogether when the last time the chicken literally felt like biting into rubber. However that is NOT why I'm writing this. You may be wondering again, why do I return (?) the last & final time I went there I really didn't have much of an option around the corner that was open at the hour & was serving "fresh" food. There was an omen in the taco plate I ordered - it was a hair. I ignored it , like I did the other multiple failures of this place & got food poisoning. How do I know it's this place ? Because it was the ONLY meal I had that day. I got symptoms the night of & experienced the side effects for the next 3 days. & all I kept thinking of was that hair ... that was the final straw. I don't know if it was the pastor that already tasted bitter but I'm not ever going back & telling everyone I can not to go there. Better to go to Mos2 across the street. To the "managers" & any Charlie out there running this location -- get your act together. Go to the location & actually see what's going on there. The morale & culture of the employees. I don't think as "diner-goers" we ask for a lot & the CONSISTENT failure & lack of attention to service, sanitation & quality really speaks MORE ON THE OWNERS. Not the workers. Because WHO is hiring the workers? You may not believe in it, but your business will rot with every mouth that speaks on it day by day. Until this business is a stain on the city & your "business". I'm disgusted just thinking about this place now. How sad that we have an Amazon billboard right across now that says "the joys of not cooking".. we're really living in this time where if you have no "time" or access to kitchen , you almost CANNOT find reliable food source in this area. Ok, this 4 star review is based on me knowing I'm eating dirty when I go here. Burgers are good for this type of place, bacon looks good and pretty fresh. But the reason myself and my co workers frequent this place is the breakfast burritos. For most of us, they just hit different than anywhere else. They're just freaking delicious and I'll skip lunch after having one of these bad boys for breakfast(I'm not a lil' guy either). Get the mixed burrito with light hash as the potato content can be too much sometimes. It's even great "sin papas". And the red sauce is the bomb, I assume they make it as it varies in color and spiciness, but I could be wrong.
