I don't usually eat here but I wanted something healthy, quick and fresh and this was the nearest thing that offered that. I ordered their chicken bowl and saw signs for their Boom Boom tacos and tried the steak one. I could not believe how good the steak taco was! If the Hawaiian food restaurants they would add this to their menu. The steak taco was thin pieces of meat marinated in teriyaki sauce and placed in a thin tortilla with cabbage, green onion and spicy mayo. It's literally the best tasting thing there. I ordered the taco trio the next day. I don't care for rice, so this is a great compromise and you won't get full from the rice but you will be full if you get the taco trio. It's one of those hold menu items that will hold you over. I've yet to try the shrimp and chicken tacos but I'm good with the steak tacos. read more

Waba is a local chain that offers quick, fast-food style teriyaki bowls. I would never come without a deal, but they always run 2 chicken teriyaki bowls for $13 and mail us coupons for even cheaper deals which makes it more worthwhile when we are feeling extra lazy and don't want to cook. The food itself is fine, a step above fast food. Always in and out for my take-out orders in 5 minutes or less. Inside is pretty small and gross, so I wouldn't recommend eating in. Only ever tried the chicken as the steak is extra and has never looked all that appetizing. Definitely recommend asking for extra sauce because they don't put any teriyaki on it before they give it to you and you only get a small 1oz container with your meal. Parking is usually easy, it's located on a lot with spaces right out front. Sometimes the closest spots are full due to the popularity of tacos de galivon right across from Waba, but you can park a row or two away. Order at the counter and when your food is ready they'll call your order number to pick-up. read more

This review is strictly based on their Tacos (New Menu Item). I mean, I can't complain! They were much to my surprise good! I ordered a shrimp, steak, and chicken taco. My favorite was the shrimp. From the cook of the shrimp, tortilla, and toppings (cabbage), the texture of this taco was all on point. Definitely my fave. I also enjoyed the chicken taco. Same type of review with regards to texture as the shrimp. The steak taco was a little too sweet for my liking. It reminded me of a Korean style taco I once had. Not bad at all, just not my favorite. All three tacos are a little on the sweet side but have good flavors. What you see is what you get. If you've had a steak or chicken bowl, you'll be getting the same flavors but in a tortilla with texture and creamy sauce. I see you Waba Grill! I'm not mad at these tacos! Very unprofessional and sub par customer service. A colleague of mine purchased a kombucha bottle just to find out it has been expired since June of this year. When she returned to the restaurant, not even a refund nor store credit was offered as compensation. Only an exchange for a drink. This establishment didn't even bother to apologize for their mistake and did not offer any other solutions. Be careful to not purchase any items from this place at the risk of it being expired. I like this place. I would definitely go again. Inside this location is pretty small, not much ventilation for a hot May day, but for the most part there is ample seating for friends. If you plan on bring your baby, like my friend did, you may want to consider where you would place the car seat. The location is located on the busy corner of Grand and Seventeenth street, behind Denny's, next to Game Stop, across the street from Big O' Tires. That should be enough description to NOT get you lost. As far as the food goes, it's quick and delicious. Although I didn't pay for this meal, it did cost my other friend about $20 for two of the same meal - Chicken-steak plate - a combo of beef, chicken, and drink. The combo had a small side salad, diced chicken, diced beef, topped over a bed of rice which, impressively, you have the option of white or brown rice. This huge meal is served in a take-out container so it even seems that this location knows the amount of food they serve their customers. This franchise brags of freshness, no skin on their meat, no frying, no trans fat, and no msg, so you're just going to have to trust the flavor. You options too. Onions? Yes, please. Overall, a great place for a quick eat in this busy area of town. I'd eat here rather than the other locations near by: Denny's, Hometown, McDonalds, KFC, and other junky places...though there is a Subway, but Waba Grill is a good alternative for a hot meal. Ordered from here 3 times-3 family meals. 1st time great, 2nd time forgot all 8 sauces. Called to let the manager know and just asked them to please not forgot sauces again. 3rd time forgot all 8 sauces AGAIN. I call again and ask for some type of refund. Manager (Salvador) basically says he can't authorize it, will talk w/the owner, & will call me back. They charge .30 for each sauce but a family pack includes them.... I've seen WaBa Grills everywhere so I figured it was about time I give it a try, especially since they're branded as being a healthy option. I was very impressed! It's kind of like an Asian fusion-ish version of Chipotle- quick, healthy, and more expensive than fast food but not expensive. They were having a special where it was only $5 for a chicken bowl and a drink; doesn't get much better than that! The bowl was delicious. It came with rice, chicken, onion, and Waba sauce. I also opted for a side of the Waba hot sauce, and that was a good call. The hot sauce had a bit of a vinegar-like taste to it, which nicely balanced with the Waba sauce. It only took a few minutes for our food to be ready. Super quick, friendly service, and healthy and delicious food. I'll be a return customer without a doubt. read more

Very displeased in the antics that this waba does when you ask for double meat. Instead the load the veggies and keep the protein the same as if ordered a normal serving. They don't hook you up with the meat like Flame Broiler nearby on 17th and Main, but taste wise I thought the food was on par with them. I got the half chicken + half beef bowl like I did at Flame Broiler recently. So comparing it strictly with Flame Broiler down the street: + Waba Grill has free jalapenos. I topped my bowl with these and they were great! + Better hot sauce than Flame Broiler. + Bowl is little wider than Flame Broiler so it's easier to eat and not have your mound of food topple down. - Brown rice is 80 cents extra here unlike Flame Broiler where it's free. - Amount of meat is not as generous as Flame Broiler. - Flame Broiler does have a "upon request only" Sriracha sauce by the register. I would probably still prefer Flame Broiler because they hook it up and brown rice substitution is free, but Waba Grill ain't too shabby. 3.5 stars rounded up to 4! read more

I actually like the food, and the service here has been fine. But I'm giving it one star because I find it incredibly offensive that they sneak a "digital service fee" onto your order at the end of the checkout process and hide it under "taxes" so you won't even notice that it's there unless you are looking hard for it. I find this offensive at a couple of levels. First, it is offensive and deceptive to hide the fee so that it's difficult for a customer to find it, instead of fully disclosing it in clear and conspicuous terms before someone starts the ordering process. I think that is a sneaky and deceptive practice. But don't take my word for it -- go through the online checkout process (even if you don't actually complete your order) and see if you can find where they hide the digital deliver fee. You really have to look hard to find it. Second, even if they were disclosing the fee in a conspicuous way, it would still be offensive to me. There are many costs associated with operating a business, and you don't need to charge a fee for each one. If you want to charge me 50 cents more for a hamburger because you want to cover various operating costs, then charge me 50 cents more for the hamburger. (Obviously, the burger is a metaphor, because WaBa doesn't server burgers.) It is a terrible business practice to nickel and dime your customers. To advertise the burger costs one price and then, when the customer about to click the "order now button," to start nickel and diming the customer with additional fees is just bad business. I'm sure Waba Grill will respond to this with some nonsense about how everyone else is doing it. (Which is just a lie -- most restaurants do not charge extra to order online unless you're asking for delivery, and then they are charging for the deliver, not for the online order.) Any response other than "we're going to stop" is simply not relevant. For the Waba folks ready to justify their deceptive and outrageous behavior: Take a look at the one-star reviews I've given over the past five years, and you'll find that they all have two things in common: (a) the business responded by trying to justify its behavior or explaining it was out of the norm, and (b) every single one of them went under within a couple years after I gave that review. One star for customer service. My daughter ordered 3 bowls and the cashier Maggie was making multiple mistakes so my daughter had to repeat and reorder a few times. When my daughter received the bag of food she asked if she could double check and the girl told her it's right and handed her the bag. Upon opening at home my veggie white meat chicken bowl was indeed missing veggies, but is correct on the receipt. I called and spoke to this Maggie and she said they could give me a side of veggies. The $3.99 chicken bowl sign enticed me. I ordered it with brown rice it was an extra 80 cents, still not a bad deal for a chicken bowl. It was okay. The chicken tended to have some fat and I even bit into a hard piece of chicken, not very tasty. I think the teriyaki sauce was a little on the sweet side.
