While the menu is quite extensive, you are unable to customize any dish. This leads me to believe that the dishes are made well in advance and not "fresh". For example, I could not have any lamb dish without the "gravy". Having said that the condiments, appetizers, and main course were good. The spiced minced beef pastry was quite dry and wasn't flavorful but that's where the condiments came in. The prices and service were great, however the entry way/foyer seemed dirty and forgotten. Because of overall great reviews, we decided to make the drive to eat at Flame. We were there on a Thursday at 11 when they opened. We were the only customers until another couple arrived just as we were leaving. The restaurant is quite fancy and large. We ordered the buffet, which was @ $16. The food was hit and miss. The server made sure our waters were always full. The food was on the warm to lukewarm warm side. Round 1: The Vegetable Samosas were anything but crispy. Dal Soup was tasteless. The Naan was also tasteless. The Saag was tasty, but bland. The Vegetable Jalfrezi was delicious! The Tandoori Chicken was tender. Round 2: More Vegetable Jalfrezi and Dal Makhani, which was flavorful. Another piece of Tandoori Chicken and a side of Raita. The Raita was outstanding. It was thick, which seemed delightfully unusual. Round 3: Tomato soup was temperature hot, which was a bonus. It was a bit sweet and overall quite yummy. The Kheer was very good. I noted it had a lovely floral flavor, confirmed as a touch of rose water on the menu. Generally, the food on the buffet was bland. Good food and great service. Last night was my first time to Flame India. My husband has been previously with coworkers. The interior looks kind of fancy compared to the strip mall exterior. They have a bar in the back and a cocktail/alcohol menu. We ordered the Vegetable Pakoras for an appetizer and they were really good. So were the chutneys served with it. I ordered the Basant Chicken. I have never had it before but I thought that it was really tasty. My husband with the Lamb Vindaloo. He enjoyed his, as well. The spice level was 0-6 and I ordered mine on a 3 and my husband on a 5. We thought the levels were what we expected. The Kashmiri Naan was great. Thin, crispy and flavorful. I recently hosted 12 friends at this restaurant, and was again blown away by their sophisticated decor, their hospitality, and the fresh authentic food. They were able to seat us at one table in their "party room," a small alcove to the right of the entrance way. It had a privacy curtain; the table was set beautifully, and it all gave the impression of privacy, comfort and elegance. Our waiter was prompt and helpful, and gave great suggestions to many of us ordering. And then there was the food: there were so many choices on the menu that each of us ordered something different. OMG, the dishes were generous, the meats were tender, and the dishes were uniquely and authentically spiced. The big hits were the fish pakora, the Veggie Flame Special, and the Mixed Platter, Chicken Mango, Chicken Curry, the Salmon Masala, and the Lamb Korma. They had no issues splitting a check (work dinner) and were very helpful in explaining the menu to some folks who have never ventured into Indian food. This review is for the buffet only. On a windy Thursday, I found myself in WC. In town for the week and a coworker that has limited dining options: I was left to get my Indian fix on my own. Food: Quite possibly the skimpiest Indian buffet I have ever seen. Even a tiny strip mall place in Westport had more protein options. In addition to the lack of options, what little was on the buffet was also LITTLE on the buffet. The only decent option was the chicken masala. The 4 small chunks/pieces of Tandori did not look good, I took one just to try. It was dry and cold. Naan was a bit dry, probably from sitting too long in the bin. Service: He took my dirty plate away and filled the first glass of water. That was it. Ambiance: Well the place had a total of 5 people dining at around 12:30. One ordered off the menu, not sure what the rest were having. The restaurant itself was nice and clean. Overall: Sorry but for $17 this was not worth it. Wow, wow, wow! My husband & I just dined here for the first time this evening & we will 100% be back!! Th atmosphere is casual, the music is upbeat, & I feel like you can get away with wearing whatever, really. The service was excellent. Our waitress was extremely pleasant, attentive, & willing to make recommendations. I ordered the Hurricane to drink. She informed us they had just gotten their liquor license & asked how the strength of the drink was when she noticed I had a lot of the drink remaining by the end of the meal. In all honesty, the food was so amazing I wasn't even thinking about the drink, which was also very good. I ordered my go-to, tried & true chicken tikka masala. It had the perfect amount of heat (I got a spice level of 4 out of 6) & the fresh cilantro combined with the creamy, rich, delicious sauce & tender chicken was next-level. My husband & I shared the paneer naan, which tasted fresh, fluffy, & delicious. He had the lamb vindaloo & oh my goodness - the layers of flavor in the dish were unreal. So, so good. He also had a spice level of 4 out of 6 & we both agreed it was perfect. We also agreed this is easily in our top two favorite Indian restaurants we have been to. Got there on a Saturday night around 6. Not a lot of people in the restaurant but noticed a lot of takeout while we were there. I got the chicken tikka masala saag spice level 6 and the wife got the chicken tikka masala spice level 1. And we got the garlic naan. At first I thought that was very little food but eating the rice the main dish and the naan, it was plenty. The disk spice level was perfect for me. Hot but not too hot to enjoy my dinner. The food was good and the restaurant was clean and the service was excellent. The only complaint was my wife like the chicken shredded versus cubed. I like the place but it was a far drive for us and there is an Indian restaurant closer which is very good as well that we frequent. I saw they have a buffet but it looks small and may not be worth the drive for me. I do wish all the Indian restaurants come back with the buffet which was the reason why we tried it and love the food. 3/4/23 I came here with my husband for our date night dinner Saturday evening. The restaurant was 80% empty. We were greeted and seated immediately as we walked in. We ordered; Flame India Special Thal medium level 3 heat, mushroom Mater, garlic naan and mango lassi. The food was very delicious and made to order. We had so much food. Next time we will be ordering just one entree as we had a lot of leftover. The 3 condiments that are provided with your meal is very tasty. The tomato chili chutney is spicier than the level 3 spice on our food so beware. The rice is refilled upon request. Our waitress was very attentive and encouraged various things for us to try since we both enjoy Indian food. The ambiance is great, very causal, no music. I believe they have a lunch buffet here as they had a setup that looked like that's what they offer. Overall, the food and the experience was great. The buffet is excellent, definitely a 5 star. I appreciate an Indian place finally reopening a buffet. I had issues with a carryout of mine though. The dal lentil soup I got was tasty, but just a tiny little cup for $6 wasn't worth it. Paneer Tikka masala was tasty, but it was mostly soup/gravy. Before the pandemic, Indian Buffets were a staple stop for me. I loved being able to try a variety of items as I love Indian food. Since most of the spots in my area stopped serving buffets and never reopened, Flame stepped up to the plate. They offer a lunch buffet every day 11-2:30 (starts at 11:30 on Sundays). The quality of food in this buffet is up to par, and there is no drought on variety. There's Saag, butter chicken, naan, all the classics and some other options as well. They even have a sauce station with Raita and all the chutneys. Everything is cooked fresh and comes out in rotation as everyone eats. Definitely recommend to get your Indian Fix! Recently checked out this new-ish Indian place while visiting my parents. Just a heads up if you're visiting soon, they don't have their liquor license yet, so drinks are not available. I'd recommend calling ahead if that's something you care about. To start we ordered the papdi chaat and flame special. The flame special was good, a mixture of veggies and chicken inside a puff pastry. The papdi chaat was pretty good too. You definitely need the sauces served on the side to add more flavor and spice. For dinner we ordered the chicken tikka masala, eggplant and mushroom curry and vegetable biryani along with spicy naan and garlic naan. We asked for the biryani without the nuts and raisins, which was still included but the waitress was quick to take it back and bring a fresh one, which was much appreciated. The food was pretty good, portions are slightly on the smaller side, however we still had leftovers from each dish with four people. Everything could have used a little more flavor and spice for us, but that could have been our fault for ordering a 4, though that's usually a pretty good spice level at other places (the scale is 1-6). The staff was really friendly and the space was really big with a nice atmosphere. Overall, it was good experience, but I've definitely had better Indian food in the area. read more

The inside of the restaurant is very elegant and is one of the best Indian restaurants in the greater Cincinnati area. One of my favorites is their garlic naan and onion naan. While waiting for an order from PF Chang's, we decided to get an appetizer from Flame India Restaurant. All I can say is: I'm so glad we did! The storefront restaurant looks small from the outside, but once we had entered, we got to see how large and clean it was. The décor was very inviting and spacious. In truth, I was actually disappointed we did not have the time to dine in. We ordered an appetizer, "Aloo Tikka Chat"- (Spiced Potatoes with Chickpeas and Yogurt), to go. Our food came out piping hot and smelled absolutely fantastic! The best news of all...it tasted as good as it smelled. The chickpeas mixed with the sauce, lentils and the spiced potatoes at the bottom, were really tasty. My wife, liked the taste of it also, with a few exceptions, (the Cilantro was a bit heavy, and the yogurt mixed in made it very thick). Flame India Restaurant is THE best Indian Restaurant in Northern Cincinnati off Union Center Exit near Bravo and PF Changs. The interior is very nice and everyone is very nice with great selections on their menu. This is my second meal, first was Chicken Tikki Massala and this time Lamb Curry with garlic naan bread. Amazingly fresh, great flavor and very attentive. They have lunch buffet weekdays and Saturday. I wanna go back on a Saturday for the buffet. I had a 2 on a scale from 1-6 and it definitely had a kick so be cautious of your spice level but none the same it was delicious. Please support them as they are small and local!! Tell your friends!! I had the fish Kadai, and the waitress didn't know what fish was in it...think the dish would have been better with shrimp. Lots of flavor, and could have gone spicer...they err on the mild side for their spice scale. We ended with their homemade pistachio ice cream gulab Jamun "sundae", which the server was reluctant to have us try, as we found out later that she was nervous because she made the ice cream! I'm a spice lover so almost exclusively order lamb vindaloo from restaurants but we saw and I had the appetite to justify buffet eating so the family and I did that. Great selection and one of the waitresses said they'll cycle different dishes in and out of the buffet so I look forward to seeing what comes. And as difficult as it can be to please little ones, ours were big fans of their go-to dish, "red chicken" (tandoori chicken).
