Don't let exterior image fool you, this place has AMAZING food! It's hard to find and on the corner of a strip mall, I actually stopped by because the place I was initially going to go to was closed. I ordered the Rasam Soup and Paneer Tikka Masala. I loved the Rasam soup, it tasted absolutely delicious and authentic. It had herbs and pepper in the broth. I could tell it was made to order. My Paneer Tikka Masala was delicious but it was SPICY!! Most Indian restaurants in the United States significantly under-spice their food and make it more bland. This restaurant keeps it authentic. I thought an 8/10 would be spicy enough but my mouth was on fire! To their credit, I was offered some yogurt and mild sauce to mix in to cool the gravy a bit. This brought the spice level down to a perfect level for me. NOTE: if you like spice, 5/10 is plenty. This restaurant really brings the heat! It's a real authentic place, with a huge range of food, especially Hyderabad food such as Biryani and Sweets. Stopped in bc the place I planned for lunch was closed but I really wanted Indian food. I did not take pictures of the menu but it is extensive and no descriptions of the food. Either have an idea of what you want to order or be prepared to google/ask a lot of questions. This was probably my only complaint. While I was waiting for my carry out order to be prepared, there were a number of diners eating in. They all appeared to be getting the lunch special, which looked awesome but wasn't what I was craving. You get the lunch special served to you cafeteria style at the far end of the counter. They have a drink station that is serve yourself, with pitchers available for the table. Then clear your place at the trash cans where there is a bin for the trays/silverware. I ordered the Palak Paneer (spicy level 7/10) for myself. This was tasty AND spicy. I love spicy and I don't know that I would go much higher than maybe this or an 8. Wish it had more spinach but the flavor was good and the paneer had good texture. I ordered the Butter Chicken (spicy level 5/10) for my husband. Neither of us have had this dish before so not sure how it compares to other places. It was flavorful and the chicken was tender. I would probably order again. Oddly enough, at a spice level 5 with this dish there was very little spiciness. Would definitely bump up the spiciness next time. We also ordered plain Naan that was adequate. read more

I seek attention to the owner and/or the chef....my Mom always says...."when you make food and it turns out shitty....just do two things...1. Add extra salt or 2. Add extra Mirch" so when guest eats your food they will never say that you are not a good cook. Instead, they will say 'it was too salty or too spicy'! Your establishment is the perfect example of that! Their goat biryani was mediocre at best. It was nothing but goat bhuna mixed with rice. Chicken Tikka's were fresh but has no taste as they just did dry spice rub on top of chicken breast meat without any marination time therefore no spice went through the meat resulting in very dry tasteless piece of meat. Also they charged $11.99 for 7 half cubic inches of dry meat. Please charge a few more dollars and give enough pieces... Goat Kadai: Just no comment.....frankly it's not even worth my time!! I'm a flavor junkie. White bread, mac-and-cheese, fettucine alfredo, food-service-style french fries, and their bland-o-rific ilk are my culinary enemies. I like my flavors big, bold, and powerful. Acid, salt, sour, bitter, smoky, spicy-hot, umami, fatty, you name it--although not too much in the way of sweet--and multi-layered. But they've got to be well-balanced, too, and that's the tough part. Nobody wants to chug a canister of salt for dinner, or at least I don't. So, when you're firmly into middle age--and you've lived for a decade or so in a not-exactly-diverse metro like Cincinnati--you don't get all that many opportunities to experience "culinary discoveries" like you did when you were younger. For me, Hyderbadi cuisine is a recent discovery (at the defunct Kadai, which happened to have been located next door to where Ravis is now), and it brings the flavor like a locomotive, or at least Ravis Hyderabad House does (and Kadai did) at dinnertime. (We actually visited several months ago for lunch, and it was quite good, but not at the level I describe below.) Now, as far as I know, these "65" dishes--chicken, gobi (cauliflower)--are not actually Hyderabadi in origin, but the Gobi 65 here is a flavor blast of the first order: red chili powder (or ground chiles?), curry leaves, garlic paste, garam masala, coriander, lemon juice, onion (?), oil from deep frying. It's pretty damn spicy hot, but not too much so. The flavors just detonate, and you want more and more. Hyderabadi cuisine is most famous for biryanis, that fragrant basmati rice dish that can bring some gigantic, deeply layered, and complex flavor. I'm a total amateur with this stuff, but that the goat dum biryani at Ravis certainly seems to get the job done. Totally addictive, and goat was plentiful and tender. Great dish. Also on our table were mirchi bajji (fritters with serrano peppers, not quite like anything I've had before, and excellent), a mughlai mixed veg (smoky and subdued and quite good, but probably the least interesting item we got), and mughlai chicken (smokier and bolder, a bit different flavor profile from the veggies, with very tender chicken, and pretty great in its own right). Garlic naan was easily better than average, too. The food was right up there at about five stars. Anything bad about Ravis Hyderabad House? Well, the decor and atmosphere are pretty bleak. The shabby shopping-strip location itself is pretty depressing; empty storefronts abound. Inside, harsh industrial lighting and stark, hard-looking furnishings and colors aren't exactly very calming. (Kadai next door was quite a bit nicer.) Not surprisingly, the restaurant was doing a lot of take-out. The servers were pleasant enough, and one of the guys was helpful about the menu, but they were not terribly attentive overall. There were a few things listed on the menu that the kitchen did not have. Food-wise, though, one of the more satisfying meals I've had around these parts lately. read more

Update: I've come here for lunch, and they have a pretty good special during that time. For $7-9, you can get a side of rice, two curries and half naan. The price will depend on veggie vs chicken vs seafood/goat curries. It's a very generous portion too for the price. I've tried a few more curries on my multiple visits, and I've been very impressed with the chicken tikka masala. I know that CTM is the pad thai, the general tso's of Indian food, but it's seriously the best I've ever had. It's so creamy and rich, I've never had anything like this. I've also been impressed with the Indo-Chinese menu, especially the chicken manchurian and noodles. Though be warned, this is hella spicy stuff. If you looking for a good deal on biriyani and entrees, this is the place. They have veg/chicken platters where you choose one veg and one chicken entrees, with flavored rice and a naan as side. The mutton/fish thali is the same way. Its about a dollar more than the former. They also have lunch portions of chicken biriyani etc which is huge. I got the chicken dum biriyani off the menu. Our orders usually take longer than estimated but it's so worth the wait. They're slammed every day for a reason. We've ordered takeout several times and tried multiple different dishes each visit. Be careful when requesting the spice level. This is Indian hot and most Americans don't know the difference. My oldest asked for "very hot" and was warned over the phone. To start my review, I have yet to give a 5 star review. This is the first place in Cincinnati I feel like I was very close to giving said review. I would rate it at a 4.5 star pending my next visit. This place is hidden up in the burbs but was recommended to me by my good friend @adilQ. The chicken 65 is outstanding. Even all my Punjabi friends were amazed by this place. Unfortunately we got there too early and they didn't have the special chicken biryani ready. Instead, we ordered the goat biryani which was good, but my friend had already warned me low on the goat portions. I'd say that was the main drawback of this place. In addition ordered some delightful samosas with tasty chutney. The spiciness level is something that would be difficult for those who cannot tolerate some heat. We also ordered the garlic naan and aloo paratha which came out piping hot. Unfortunately they did not have the house made roti available at this time. Overall best Indian place I have been in the area thus far. Recommended by both northern/southern friends from India. He also gave me a free dish of another type that I could try that was milder then brought me a free mango lassi to also help tamp down the spice. I chose the chicken 65 and ginger paneer and both were excellent. Hyderbadi style is a little different than the usual Indian food around so that was a nice change. Nest when we came home find half order missing & its not staff's fault as they gave the slip to RAVI the owner. When called to speak to him, he can barley speak English & hard to understand. Both were super hot because for some reason they decided to add chili powder to both the Biriyani and Chicken even when I asked for 'mild'.
