    Pulled Pork MACwhich, very good!
    Lisa S.

My husband goes here for his lunch break and has been raving about how good it is. On a Saturday we were out and about and he brought me here. He was right, it was delicious! I got a pulled pork smoked MACwhich and he got the Lil Piglet. The only thing I wasn't super impressed with was the bread but they are a bbq joint not a bakery. The service was friendly, funny guy he obviously recognized my husband and the banter was jolly. The atmosphere was clean and fun to look at, big tvs and good music. Looking forward to going back soon!

BBQ in the PNW is rarely anything to celebrate, so I was happy to find something unique in Tumwater. It was just a sandwich for lunch, but the meat was tender and full of flavor and the overall composition of the sandwich worked really well. Counter service was friendly and fast, and the space is just what you would expect when eating a sandwich called 'The Pig.' Will definitely come back to try a plate and some of the sides.

When you move to Texas, and are SURROUNDED by bbq joints, but you can't find the sauce that does it for you.... Flaming pig comes though. Little taste of WA, and all is right in the world. So excited to get my hands on this amazing sauce!

on my first visit the guy behind the counter was rude while taking my order but i let it slide because the food was okay and it wasn't that serious. this is now my second time here as i wanted to give it another chance, and not only did they get my order wrong but i also found a METAL shaving (pictured below) in my food... i tired to look up a number to call and all i can find is a number for catering no thanks.. highly disappointing as i was so excited to try them out on the upside the catfish was decent considering they forgot my remoulade

The service here was great, a young girl took our order at the counter and let us kind of take a moment since it was our first time there. The interior was clean, albeit empty but that's probably because it was just after the lunch hour. I'm a southern girl, and my husband is from Virginia...so maybe we are a little harsh when it comes to BBQ (there aren't a lot of good choices for BBQ in our area here in WA), but we both felt like the food wasn't worth it. I ordered a bbq baked potato with pulled pork and everything on top minus tomatoes, and my husband got a sandwich (the pig) with a side of mac n cheese and a smoked sausage. My baked potato was soggy...and not from the toppings. It's almost as if the potato was boiled first and THEN baked? It was mushy/gummy rather than the fluffy texture I'd expect from a baked potato. It's possible that maybe it was just overcooked while wrapped in foil in the oven??...I tried to salvage it with some salt and pepper but I just honestly couldn't eat it and ultimately ended up throwing 95% of it away...I even tried to just eat the toppings but I couldn't eat all of it...and I hate wasting food. My husband's Mac and cheese was ok but it was obvious that it had been sitting for a while or it came from the bottom of the pan/pot. Definitely didn't look like the pictures. He said his sandwich was pretty good at least, and the sausage was standard. I will say that their sauces are delicious though! We loved all of the ones we tried, we got them on the side just to be safe and we are glad we did so we could sample them all. Loved the Carolina gold and my husband liked the flaming hot bbq sauce! It's possible that we came on a bad day, and it might be worth a second try on their pork belly burnt end days, but I was pretty disappointed in how a simple baked potato left such a bad taste in my mouth.

We thought the food was good. I think for a 3 choice meat platter, you are expected to pay $30-$40 anywhere you go. We initially thought the food portion was small but it was just right and we left full and happy. Will def return!

Sliced a brisket with smoky Mac and meaty baked beans.

I have been coming here for awhile now. I usually always get my go to which is the rob plate with two sides and a piece of your choice of bread. This time I went with the sliced brisket, smoky Mac and cheese and meaty baked beans with Texas toast. My friend got the pulled pork nachos. Both items were filling and so delicious. I love their Carolina Gold BBQ sauce. The service is great, and they are all kind individuals and plenty of seating and wall decor fit for a BBQ joint!

Smoked brisket, tator tots, coleslaw and their famous flaming pig sauce!

The upstairs is small and intimate, which gives the whole place a cozy, unique feel. Our waiter this time was a young gentleman who was incredibly friendly and did a great job! Three of us ordered Coors Lights in bottles, and he brought them out ice cold with a chilled glass to pour them into. When we ordered a second round, he let us know he had just put some more in the freezer, so it would be a few minutes. That little extra step made a difference...we'd much rather wait a few minutes for an ice-cold beer than have it brought out warm! I ordered the spaghetti with their house-made Bolognese sauce and added a meatball, and WOW. The sauce had the perfect combination of slight sweetness, a little spice from the sausage, and that tangy tomato flavor. So good! And I'm usually not a huge fan of restaurant meatballs because they can be tough or rubbery, but this one was soft, juicy, and packed with flavor. Sean got the lasagna and absolutely loved it! Our friends who invited us out ordered the steak and spaghetti Bolognese, and everyone was happy with their meals. The steak was cooked exactly how it was requested, and the quality of the food for the price was really good. Overall, Pellegrino's is just a great little place. Warm, inviting atmosphere, friendly service, delicious food, and a fun, intimate setting that feels a little different from your typical Italian restaurant. Definitely worth checking out if you're looking for a place to enjoy a good meal with friends. We'll definitely be back!

Right away there was confusion at check-in--they called for a party of 9 with no name, and the host was rude when we responded using the first name instead of the last. After being seated, it took about 10 minutes just to get drinks, and then another 30 minutes before our server took our food order. During that time, we weren't asked about appetizers or offered any drink refills. About an hour later, the server came back and told us the kitchen was backed up and they were "just now making our food," which honestly felt like our order may have been forgotten. At that point, all of our drinks were empty and I had to ask for refills. While we were still waiting, another server came to the table asking how one of our steaks was cooked, which added to the confusion. Our food finally arrived after about an hour and a half. Unfortunately, the issues didn't stop there: My spaghetti and meatballs was incorrect, but I kept it since I didn't want to wait again with a toddler. My sister's husband's meal was never even put in--the server admitted this. My sister's fish and chips came out cold. No one checked back to see how the food was. Drinks were left empty again with no refills offered. We were never asked about dessert. Plates were never cleared, even after I stacked empties at the end of the table to help. Every time we needed something, we had to flag someone down. To make matters worse, the checks came out incorrect with items swapped between them. I've worked as a server/bartender for four years, and my niece is also a server, so we completely understand how busy and stressful things can get. But this experience missed the mark on multiple levels. Even when things go wrong, basic service--like keeping drinks filled and checking on guests--should still be happening. This was easily the worst restaurant experience I've had. It was especially disappointing because we're an easy group and typically tip very well. Unfortunately, we will not be returning.

He said to include them in the final count and email him before the event with the number of vegetarians and to let the vegetarians know to request them from the servers, as if they put them out on the buffet everyone will eat them. We did this and he responded to the email with the final invoice which we paid before the event. Absolutely would not recommend for catering…read more The biggest issue I had with city picnics was that ten of our vegetarian sandwiches had ham in them. Not only that, but when I called staff the next day that our office was open (which was delayed by a weekend and a snow day), they raised their voices at me and explained how I was wrong and how it is impossible for them to have meat in their veggie sandwiches. Well obviously not since that's what we had.. and without a doubt this was the most unprofessional experience I have ever had with any business. If you follow my reviews, you know I am a fair person who has only once ever given a business a one star review. I don't do this lightly because I know that my review can have an impact on a business. But I've been in event planning for several years and have never had a worse experience than with City Picnics. We had a few communication hiccups, but nothing I haven't experienced before - catering is a hectic business and delivery to the Capitol Campus can complicate things even more. Completely understandable and not a big deal. They offered basic sandwiches with chips got a great price, and we were excited about not having to give an arm and a leg to provide lunch for our group. The biggest issue I had was, again, that ten of our vegetarian sandwiches had ham in them and instead of owning up to their mistake and apologizing (or at least lying about being sorry..) they argued with me, raised their voices, talked over me, and were extremely rude. When making sandwiches for upwards of 130 people, mistakes can happen. We're all human. I tried to explain that yes, it did happen, it's a pretty big deal that they should know happened, and that they should look into HOW it happened so that no other groups need to go through what we did with frustrated guests. I'm not sure why they think someone would lie about this for ten sandwiches.. but maybe they didn't hear me since they were pretty busy talking over me. I was looking for an apology and "we apologize" or "we're so sorry that happened" wasn't said one time. Instead they insisted on arguing with me repeatedly for a mistake they say is impossible but clearly happened - there were 100 witnesses at lunch. I wasn't asking for a comp of those sandwiches but after that argue fest and their unprofessional handling of my order I jumped to accept when they offered it for the 10 mislabeled ones. They won't be receiving my support again, and I'll be sure to pass along the message to colleagues who do large events on the capitol campus annually. Save yourself the trouble and spend a few extra dollars per person for professional service elsewhere.

They stuck around and helped us clean up after we ate. The price was more than fair, a great value. The remarkable thing is that this was a crowd of crabby old people who complain about everything. But we had no negative comments about the food or service. Thanks to Holly and her co-worker (whose name I didn't get, unfortunately) for a really nice meal.
