I booked this restaurant because I remembered how much I enjoyed their complimentary bread and oil, and I knew it could comfortably accommodate a larger group for a celebration. Unfortunately, four guests from my party were unable to attend. Only then was I informed of a $15 fee per empty chair. I was shocked. Had I known about this policy beforehand, I would have either chosen a different restaurant or made sure my guests understood the policy. I called three times in total: once to make the reservation, a second time yesterday to adjust the party size (I reached voicemail and left a message), and a third time today at opening to update the number again. During both the initial booking and the final call--when the reservation size was discussed--I was never told about the $15 fee for each empty chair. When I was told there would be a $60 charge for the guests who couldn't attend, I felt gutted. If I had been made aware of this policy at any point during my calls, I would have planned differently, especially knowing some family members might not be able to make it. We all just came from an important ceremony celebrating my accomplishments at Nicholls, and I was so excited to bring my family here--especially because I'd been raving about their delicious bread and oil. Unfortunately, I learned that it had been taken off the menu six months ago. The manager was also dismissive and disrespectful. Instead of addressing the issue professionally, she insisted that she had informed me of the policy over the phone, which was simply not true. Like I've stated before, I would have planned accordingly had I known about this fee. I have years of experience working in customer service. I completely understand the need for policy's like these. I just think there absolutely needs to be a conversation about the no show policy. After the encounter with the unprofessional manager, I asked her if we could pay for our drinks and leave. The waitress ended up coming back and explaining their need for the policy- which I appreciated and expressed my understanding and apologies, as well as the fact that this fee was never once brought up to me. She said the drinks were on the house and we left a tip for her... I hope something changes for the sake of this restaurant. read more

Chopped steak - you need to read a temp gauge well done means no pink...mashed potatoes best part of this dish but it is mashed potatoes how do you screw that up. I was recently down in Thibodaux and had no idea where to go. Yelp wasn't much help, but a Nicholls graduate recommended we try Flanagan's. I have a feeling that I if I lived in the area, I would spend a good amount of time at this restaurant/bar. Not because it was amazing, but because it was better than your average casual dining chain. The beer choices were much better than I would have expected, but there were no draft options. They did have Abita Amber for $4, so that's what I ordered. Besides the beer, our table also sampled the food. We had what ended up being the largest mozzarella sticks I have ever seen. Imagine two or three regular sized sticks fused into one giant one. An order was more than enough for our table. Their version of a cheeseburger was pretty standard. It was good, but didn't blow me away. Unlike most national chain restaurants, we were able to have our burgers cooked to order. I did appreciate that since cooking a burger medium well may be safe, but it ruins the burger. Service was just OK. Our server was very friendly, but despite the restaurant being very slow, our server was not as attentive as I would have liked. In the end, I did like Flanagan's. We, ex-regulars, lunched at Flanagan's today for the first time in some 20 years. The fried oysters were World-class, fried shrimp very good, fried catfish slightly under-cooked but good. The crawfish etouffee was very, very salty. As it was lunch and I had a couple hours more to drive, I couldn't have a coldbeer. This has always been an excellent eatery, and still is. And, a great bargain compared to nearby New Orleans. Easy lot parking with some shade. Nice décor. Quiet comfortable interior. Easy to find, as it rides the southern edge of Nicholls University & abuts the medical center area. Caution for several floor levels, well marked by brass handrails. While at a workshop at Nicholls State, we were looking for a lunch spot with reasonable prices and a variety of options. The menu for Flanagan's met both criteria! Everyone at my table was pleased with their meals. We tried a variety of items: the club sandwich, crawfish stew, Caesar salad, and shrimp remoulade salad. It's always a gamble when you try somewhere unfamiliar in a different city, but everything tasted great. My only reservation about Flanagan's was the service. It took way longer than it should have for our waitress to take our order. In turn, our food took a very long time to come out, causing us to be tardy returning to our workshop. Additionally, our requests were not all met. I asked for honey mustard and never got it. My friend asked for a to-go cup and never got that either. Seeing the less than stellar reviews, my expectations were in check when hubby insisted we try Flanagan's. And yet, I still managed to be disappointed. We arrived for a late-ish (around 8pm) dinner on a Friday night. The place had a few open tables so there was no wait to be seated. I didn't peek into the bar, but hubby said it was pretty hoppin'. As for ambiance, I'm still confused. It's a nicer casual place, you definitely want to leave the hat at home, but no one will ask you to remove it should you decide to wear said hat. The tables are adorned with candles and fancy napkin folds, but the butter comes out in plastic single serve packets. And the bar was blasting cheesy 80's music. Not that I don't absolutely love all of the above, I just don't know how much I love it all together in the same experience. It's like mixing a chocolate shake in your lemonade. The server was sweet and quick to get our drink orders. Yay for wine! The menu selection was extensive and there was an added menu for the weekend "creative" menu. I was in an indecisive mood, so I asked the server for a recommendation. She said she's picky and sticks with salads, but could offer some suggestions based on what the customers order. To me, this was basically polite speak for "I wouldn't eat the food here if I were you." I got nervous so I let hubby order. He decided to share a large Remoulade Salad and the Paneed Chicken Belle River. As we were waiting for the salad, hubby had to go to the bathroom to wash his hands because his hand got sticky from pulling his chair out. Gross gross gross!.... Gross. The salad came out and it was a pleasant surprise to see that they had split the plates for us. A lot of places won't do that. But that's about as pleasant as it got. Our plates were dirty and warm. I am one of those picky b****es that likes my salad served on a cold plate. But really, it wouldn't have mattered because the salad itself was warm, so the energy to chill a plate would have been energy wasted. My salad also had that icky pink sickness to it. So I'm assuming they just grabbed an old bag of lettuce off of a non-refrigerated shelf and dumped it onto our plates. Sad face. And to add to my picky b****yness, it drives me BONKERS when I have to cut my salad. Unless it's a fancy salad, like a wedge, tomatoes should be bite sized, not quartered. I do have to give props to the remoulade dressing, though I have made better myself. We waited quite. a. while. for the entree to come out, but I'm not going to sweat that. There was a party of about 20 people who I am pretty sure didn't bother to make a reservation. I don't care how good you are, that is a lousy situation. Free pass there. When the chicken did come, I wasn't impressed (except that they split that up for us too, which was again appreciated). The chicken was dry and tough, not "tender" as described. The creamy crawfish sauce was bland. It came with a boring side of vegetables (zucchini, yellow squash, and red peppers) that were seasoned with butter and salt and pepper, and a gross doughy biscuit. We ordered a side of potatoes au gratin but some bites were so tough that it hurt my teeth. And I don't know who pulled the trigger on this one, but every freakin' thing had green onions thrown on top of it, whether it made sense or not (and it didn't). We skipped dessert and went next door to Rouses to pick up essentials to make our own dessert at home. Overall, I just see no care here for the food or cleanliness. We've been eating at this restaurant for years, and actually stopped because of the food quality in the last year or so. We decided to give it another shot and were blown away at the improvement! The atmosphere was drastically improved. It was fun, exciting, and welcoming. Our server was absolutely phenomenal. Best of all the food was light years ahead of where it was previously. I've eaten here several times before because my parents live nearby. They're retired and I take them to dinner a couple times a month if I can. They like Flanagan's as well as some of the places in Houma, where I live. Had brunch here yesterday (Palm Sunday) after church. Brought family from out of town and this was close and we've eaten here before. It was about 12:30 and the place was filling up when we arrived but they seated our party of 7 almost immediately. There was a small band playing - 3 man jazz and cover band named Jazzmin. The band was good, but just a little loud for a dining experience as they were a tad hard to talk over. I think they realized that and turned down a bit and it was better. Our server was friendly and attentive, as well as efficient in getting to our table quickly and also getting drinks to us. We opted out of appetizers but have had them in the past and enjoyed them. The restaurant was serving complimentary mimosas, which was a nice, unexpected touch. Several ordered brunch items and a couple of us lunch entrees: Shrimp and grits, Eggs Atchafalaya, Eggs Salvatora, a salad and fruit crepes. Our guests raved about the food, and especially the shrimp and grits, which they particularly enjoyed. I did too, but was surprised that they came topped with shredded cheese and with bacon bits in the sauce. Different, not expected, but not bad to tell the truth. On the other hand, their product doesn't compare with Drago's in NOLA at the Hilton (and out off of Vets in Metairie). Still, I'd have them again if I didn't enjoy their fried seafood so much :-D Overall it was a very nice visit and although they were busy the food came out pretty quickly, was nicely presented and garnished and so on. I want to mention that there are some snarky reviews, especially from someone from Baton Rouge. Let me say this: I've been in the food business for 40+ years, run a range of restaurants and multi-unit operations, and no place is perfect. Check my other reviews; you'll see that I've eaten in some very nice places over the years and they're not without fault either. So give it a rest, and just be nice already, okay? Get over yourself. This place is not what it used to be. We ate here a few months ago & I forgot to leave my review. I didn't forget our experience though. Our food was bland and just not good. We barely ate anything off our plates and just asked for the bill. I thought about sending it back but didn't want to wait even longer for more food. Oh and before you order the ceasers salad, just know their dressing does have the anchovies in it. Talk a out a shock when my salad tasted like strong raw fish, ugh. I love sushi so raw fish usually isn't an issue, but, but the dressing was disgusting. We will not be back unless there are major changes. read more

This seems like a local favorite and was hopping during dinner hours. Service was friendly, and atmosphere was one where you could dress up or down - and we saw both types of groups. I recently went back home for a two week vacation. The first place I went to 'stir' up old memories was Flanagans. It has not changed a bit. My date and I sat at the bar because thats where I had most of my fun as a college student. We were the only one there but that was becuase it was late on a week night. The restaurant had several tables full but the bar area was empty. That was fine by me. The bartender was awesome. I mean to the point of wanting to learn so much about her craft she was reading books on beer and wine and pairing etc. That says alot. I ordered the Pecan encrusted Redfish with lump crab bearnaise sauce. The combination of crab and redfish is a great contrast then the pecans to finish. Excellent. It is a must have. My date had the the cream of crabmeat soup. It was creamy and full of crab. Dieters beware of this dish. I am certain that it was made with heavy whippping cream. wow.. This place is one of two wonderful restaurants in Thibodaux. Fremins and Flanagans are similiar yet entirely different. If that makes sense. I love this place and will make it a must stop place everytime I am within 100 miles of Thibodaux. It is worth the drive and effort from that far away. I also had a chance to meet the chef and he is the real deal. Cajun born and breed who uses local ingredients to make outstanding classics and his takes on them as well. My husband and I had brunch here and there was a love band playing jazz music. The brunch items were very southern. My husband ordered a steak which was very disappointing considering it was 37$ and poorly seasoned. I enjoyed my poached egg over mushroom spinach sauce. I've eaten here multiple times and I tell you what: these people know what they're doing. Service is good, whether you're on a Saturday night date, or a workday lunch with ten other people. Atmosphere is nice, not too loud, not too stuffy. Everything is clean and nice-looking. Everything I've ordered has been excellent: the Greek salad with fried oysters, the pasta primavera, and the pecan-crusted redfish. The latter is really, really delicious. I've had it several times and it's always perfect. Even the little rolls you get with the redfish are special and yummy. My most recent dining companion had a shrimp and okra gumbo that he declared to be some of the best he'd ever had. read more

We were visiting from California. Not being familiar with the area, we asked a local where to go and they pointed us to Flanagan's. Overall, we were happy with our experience. The seafood platter offerend a huge amount of food and included catfish, shrimp, oysters, crawfish, crab claws, stuffed shrimp and suffed crab, all fried to perfection. The filet duo included two four ounce filets, one topped with fresh crab meat and the other with bechamel and mushrooms, sauteed haricot vertes and seafood risotto. The two filets were cooked perfectly and melted in our mouths. The seafood risotto was a little underdone but was seasoned well. Also, at $33.95 the "market price" was a little unexpected. We started our meal with a cocktail and we enjoyed the drinks the bar served. Our waiter was friendly and attentive. read more

Hearing amazing things about Flannagan's, I was excited to get to try if for my grandma's birthday. I wish we would've stuck with our first choice because out of 15 of us,none were satisfied. Went here earlier on today for lunch, and it was superb! The ambience was great and relaxing had a pretty decent sized bar but more importantly or meals were excellentThe waitstaff and servers were very nice too, cannot stress that enough . For the comment down there or below mine that said waited for 15 minutes for a hostess or whatever have you, well you must enter through the front door where the servers are or the hostesses are stationed, other than that The door that looks like it's in the front goes to the bar and you have to walk through to get to the hostess station As far as my meal was I had the stuffed seafood mushrooms they were excellent and rather large! it comes with ranch dressing which was also very good and my main course was the seafood platter that smothered a giant po boy toasted bread underneath and served with tartar and red sauce. My mom had the catch of the day which was redfish and it was grilled with fries and she had a side salad which was good and of course her meal came with artichoke dip I think that was with olive oil.
