Chicken Tenders and Beer Cheese Pretzels
    Lynnsey O.

For my first time at Flanagans tavern we had an assortment of appetizers such as the chicken tenders, beer cheese pretzels, mozzarella sticks, & Mac n cheese bites. The mozzarella sticks were my favorite!!! I didn't like the beer cheese that was given with the pretzel. Didn't really taste like beer cheese to me, although the pretzel was absolutely delicious and they also give a mustard cup for dipping! Both desserts- the s'mores brownie with ice cream and the fried Oreos were phenomenal!!!!! I came here because the tavern was hosting a "watch party" night for the bachelor finale (my favorite show). I really liked how they had multiple TVs all over the 2 rooms and that they had a projector as well. In every part of the tavern you were able to see and hear the show. I felt really bad that there was one person who was catering to people at the bar and table seating. I don't know if this is how it always is here but I felt so terrible for the worker even though he was so polite and kind. Great customer service from him! Although the ordering process took a while I give him a lot of credit. I also didn't like how the food took forever, for the appetizers they took 40 mins to arrive. The tavern was not crowded for appetizers to take 40 mins. Overall it is a cute "hole in the wall" type of bar with pretty chill vibes and tons of TV's probably good for sports watching. Thank you Flanagans for hosting the bachelor finale!

Burger were super salty and way over cooked. I think the patties came from Costco. The only bright side was the sweet potato fries. Will not go back.

I've had a pleasant experience at Flanagan's. It's not too loud. I know I can come here and drink with some friends. It's not overly crowded so I never feel claustrophobic. I always get a seat at the bar for me and my boyfriend. We've ordered a couple of appetizers off the menu. My favorite is the Mac and cheese balls. It's very good. Also the bar has just a lot of different options. Sometimes other bars don't have the liquor I'm looking for. Thankfully Flanagans always has my 43 drink.

Cute neighborhood pub. If you're looking for a place that's has good bar food and vibe to watch games and play darts, look no further.

I noticed AFTER we ordered that there was a cocktail special that night. Our waitress never mentioned any specials, so I tried to flag her down after I had already ordered a different one not on the list. I mentioned to the hostess what I needed, and I hung out waiting for our waitress at the front. After waiting at least 15 min for her to show up from the back, I was able to ask her to change my drink order. The food here is FABULOUS. We got the housemade Irish soda bread and it was amazing. Hubby got the shepherd's pie and it was delicious. I got the lamb chops over asparagus and mashed potatoes and it was FANTASTIC ! I don't know if our waitress was new or what, but our meals were delivered without silverware. We waited several minutes, then finally flagged down another waitress so that we could eat ! If it wasn't for the poor service, this place could easily be 5 stars due to the fabulous food. Thankfully we got out of there before the live music started, loud music is not our vibe. At the very end of the meal, somehow my original drink order made an appearance (that's what I was afraid of, that she didn't cancel the order). The folks at the table next to us ordered the exact same cocktail, so when the bar tried to give it to us, the waitress told them to give it to the table next to us instead. Geez, we were already paying for our meal at the time. Lol The manager did come out and the end of the meal to ask how things were. I did mention I thought our waitress might be new. I didn't get an answer as to if she was, but I posed it more as a statement than a question.

Brunch, Great Food & 125+ Drafts? Yes, Please!…read more We stopped at Maloney's Pub & Grill in downtown Matawan for brunch, and let me tell you... this was the best idea ever! The first thing that grabs your attention when you walk in is the massive lineup of draft beers. Maloney's is known for its incredible rotating draft selection, with more than 125 taps featuring everything from IPAs and stouts to ciders, meads, Belgian ales, German lagers, and more. And if you're staring at that wall of choices thinking, "How in the world am I supposed to choose?" -- no worries! They're happy to let you sample a beer before committing. Now THAT is my kind of place! The restaurant has a really comfortable setup with plenty of seating. You'll find booths that are perfect for a date night, an open dining room for larger groups, outdoor seating when the weather cooperates, and of course plenty of seats at the bar if you just want to grab a drink and relax. And while the beer selection is definitely a major attraction, the food deserves just as much attention. Their menu goes well beyond typical pub food, with steaks, seafood, burgers, sandwiches, salads and more. They also offer Sunday brunch from 12-3 p.m. What We Ordered: Steak & Eggs A nicely grilled NY sirloin served with two eggs and home-fried potatoes. A classic brunch combination done right. Chicken B.L.T.A. Grilled chicken, bacon, lettuce, tomato, avocado and ranch dressing. This was loaded with all the good stuff and packed with flavor. Salmon Piccata North Atlantic salmon fillet with lemon, capers and a white wine sauce, served with mashed potatoes. The lemon and caper combination really worked with the salmon. Blackened Ahi Tuna Salad Blackened ahi tuna over mixed greens with avocado, sesame seeds, red onion and a house lemon-herb vinaigrette. A great option if you're looking for something a little lighter without sacrificing flavor. Crispy Chipotle Chicken Sandwich Panko-crusted chicken breast with chipotle ranch spread, cheddar cheese, avocado, lettuce and tomato, served with tater tots. Crispy, creamy, cheesy and satisfying -- what's not to like? Everything came out hot, fresh and in a timely manner, which is exactly what you want when you're dining with a larger group ordering several different dishes. And honestly, just thinking about that meal has my mouth watering all over again! A special shout-out to our server Jeanette, who was fantastic. She was friendly, pleasant and attentive without hovering, checking on us throughout the meal and making sure we had everything we needed, including keeping those water glasses filled. Great service can make an already enjoyable meal that much better. Maloney's has been part of downtown Matawan since 2005, and I can definitely see why it has become a local destination. Whether you're stopping in for Sunday brunch, meeting friends for dinner, looking for a great burger or steak, or simply want to explore their enormous rotating beer selection, there's plenty here to keep you coming back. (maloneys) If you're in the Matawan area and looking for a brunch spot with great food, a fun atmosphere and an unbelievable selection of drafts, put Maloney's on your list! We'll definitely be back -- next time, I'm exploring more of that beer list and trying something else from the menu!

Like nachos but they use kettle chips rather than tortilla chips. A baked Reuben dip (a special)--so cheesy and savory! A soft baked pretzel--perfect for sharing. Came with a spicy mustard! Then came the real Irish classics -- Irish sausage rolls--thick sausage wrapped in a pastry, a great comfort snack. Shepherds pie--a mix of ground beef and lamb. This was savory and perfect for a cold March day! Fish and chips--the BIGGEST fish ever and it was so light and battered well. And if you're a sandwich person, you have to try The Rail Bender which was a huge sandwich with mouthwatering beef brisket, and came with a savory au jus for dipping. For drinks, we went full Irish with their St. Paddy's day specials: Irish Lucky Charm, Irish Maid, and a Jameson Orange Creamsicle that tasted like dessert.
