This company was recommended by a friend in the IT world. The $30 1TB flash drive I bought off amazon stopped working one day. I took it here to see if it could be fixed and if not could I recover any data from it. The answer was not what I was hoping for, but the evaluation was done quickly and the customer service was excellent. He was able to take my flash drive apart and found it was NOT 1TB. There were other things wring as well. I was not charged anything since he could not recover any data. I hope you never need this service, but if you do, i recommend this place. I was referred to Flashback Data from two other data recovery places that did not have the resources to retrieve data from my very damaged hard drive. Because of this, I had high expectations/hope for recovery and had already been through some frustrating processes of being turned away or given an outrageous quote. Flashback Data seemed to be in the sweet spot of excellent service with fair prices. William, the customer service rep./liaison, was who I interacted with the most. He was excellent. The first time I had called around, looking for quotes, he was very honest with what they could do and was incredibly informative. He even remembered my case later on and helped to walk me through the process of submitting my ticket and shipping the damaged & backup drive (because of the social distancing enforcement). Once the hard drive got to them, they were quick to give me a quote as well as the diagnosis of my drive. Though a bit pricier than I expected, I understood this was a small price to pay for extremely valuable data and hours upon hours of hard work. Their website was great for tracking the progress of it all and was easy to use/understand. They finished recovering the data that same day they got it and William was able to ship both drives to me, free of charge. Unfortunately, upon arrival/plugging the backup drive with recovered data into my computer, the drive was unreadable- I was in disbelief. It did not work in any port or when I tested it on different computers. I called the line and Damon informed me that that was very unusual and it was probably my hard drive that was faulty. I wasn't so sure about this, as the backup drive was *brand new*. He told me I would have to send it in again so that they could see, but stated that mailing it again would be very slow, and that I should just drop it off if I wanted it faster. At this point, I just wanted my data once-and-for-all/after everything I had been through previously, so I agreed to drop it off. They called to update me later that their technician did not copy it in the right format for some reason and that it should be "good" after recopying. I am not sure how this mistake could've occurred and I wish this was double-checked before it was sent to me the first time. Once again, I had to pick it up. The location is a bit far for me so it was 4 trips to and from the office to drop it off and pick it up. On top the time I had already spent on this, I wish they would've offered a discount or to pay for priority shipping for me for my inconvenience. However, I do understand that these are complicated times and they were able to successfully retrieve all my data. This one hovers between a 3.5-4 star rating for me. The actual service & pleasant interactions with William were the positives. But all the back-and-forth/copying mistake was not expected. read more

Love these people!!! WTF! What do I mean by that ? The W stands for Wonderful. These guys really saved me in a jam. Eric Brown was awesome and really took the time to explain everything to me, front to back. There was no data backup shaming what so ever! No one there every tries to talk over your head or make you feel like a piece of garbage. They understand it's a traumatic experience to lose your data and they just want to help. Does it cost a lot ? Yep. But how much is your time worth to you ? For me, I NEEDED those files and would be crushed to realize YEARS of my life were wasted to the click of a mouse. I was so incredibly pleased when I heard they were able to retrieve the pictures that I thought were lost due to a lightning strike from my Mother's digital frame. I'm reading things here that just aren't exactly true so I thought a more honest review might be called for. I think average is a fair score because the people here really do try to help and for the most part, they are friendly and nice. However, there are a few things you should know before you try this route. They are not as affordable, successful, nor as fast as implied by some of these reviews (many are older so things may have changed). My computer was held for weeks before they even started on it. The data was crucial so I felt like I had no choice. When they finally recovered my files, it was so little that it was hardly useful and they held my computer so long that I had been forced to try to recreate or recover files from other sources anyway. The worst part is that you basically pay them for trying, not for succeeding. Several people mentioned having decades of files. Imagine finally getting your data and discovering they'd only recovered pieces of about 20 files (that's about what happened to me) but you still had to pay the $1500 or so fee! You pay no matter what they recover and you're only off the hook if they can't recover anything (but obviously, it is in their interest to recover anything so that they can charge you). After months of complaining, they made a second pass and recover more. There's no excuse for taking that much money and that much time and not doing a thorough recovery the FIRST time! They have obviously been successful with others but I suspect they may have been simplier cases. If you have a really difficult problem or if you only have the money to pay if you actually get your important data, I would definitely check out some other places. You might still end up going with these guys but don't be surprised if it's disappointing. read more

Recently, we were forced to have the hard drive on my daughter's laptop wiped. I had received quotes ranging from $129. - in excess of $200. with at least a 5 day turnaround. I called Flashback and spoke to Debbie. I explained the situation and found that they would charge me just $50. PLUS they had it done in just over 24 hours. ALSO, they shipped it to my ex husband for an additional $15. No muss, no fuss. I didn't have to worry anymore. I dropped it off yesterday and it is on it's way to Conroe today. Eric did the recovery on my Husbands computer after I erased everything by doing a System Recovery instead of a System Restore.( Had over 21 years of business records) Eric explained things in a way we could understand. He worked very quickly to help us get back to business. (2 days is all) He kept us informed and even helped us figure out some things after getting back the hard drive. This is a reasonably priced data recovery company. NO NEED To send in your Hard drive to a internet company which may damage your hard drive or loose it. Flashback Data it's a great company, with great employees who really care about their customers. After a total loss fire, I took all my hard drives to Flashback for recovery. I was recommended to them by another data recovery company that was closer to me, but they said that I needed to take my stuff to flashback. A competitor that so highly recommends another company, that says a lot. While we didn't have 100% recovery, the experience I had with them was stellar. Hands down would recommend them for any type of electronic data recovery. They have their own forensic level lad in house, no question about the safety of your information while its in their hands. Last week I loaned my 2 Gig flashdrive to a fellow student so that she could get a design/assignment that she had yet to begin. Well, when I got it back I noticed that she had trimmed back the protective rubber covering, I assume so that she could insert it better into her machine. N.E. ways it would no longer even activate so that i could open it up for my own future reference, it has Architecural and Mechanical Engineering templates that I use when I XREF a design into my model/layout , and Architecural designer symbols. Earlier in 2015 I experienced a computer crash, and I equal that to losing everything in a fire or catastrophe. That may sound a little extreme but losing close to thirty years of photos that I had scanned and collected from my childhood to the birth of my children, I felt lost. This company is an absolute lifesaver!! As a photographer losing data is an absolute nightmare. It is bound to happen to everyone at some point and when it finally happened to me, I was devastated but hopeful it might be recovered... After checking around with several places deemed the experts and receiving quotes of $1,500+ from out of state companies for my specific project. I was luckily referred to Flashback Data. Not only are they local, but I was able to hand deliver my device, eliminating the added stress of shipping out of state. After they evaluated my data loss I received a quote for less than half of the other places...even though in this particular situation I was willing to pay whatever the cost to retrieve irreplaceable photographs taken out of the country. Throughout the whole recovery process I received updates through their online client portal and when they successfully recovered not some, but ALL of the photographs that were lost. I was absolutely elated. I know my particular case was pretty severe, they had to manually rebuild the data (which I do not even know what all work is entailed, but am so grateful for the knowledge and skills of the techs) I will be a customer for life.
