Beware of Thievery. I went today for lunch. My bill including tip was exactly $81. I always round the tip with the bill to a whole dollar amount. I got home and my card was charged $83.83. Then I got gas at the Marina. Asked for $30 in gas. Gave my CC and my account shows they charged me $31.42. Both these were apparently adjusted AFTER I signed. I'll never go back. Stayed for one week in a rental house very close to the Flat Hollow Marina. Grumpy Gary drinks were great, lake was awesome and the service staff was friendly but clearly understaffed at key hours of the day. If that was all I had to say I would give a 4 star rating as I understand employee issues and management scheduling issues happen, especially during busy holiday's. BUT the petty CRIME (theft of personal property to be sold at pawn shops for drug money) is a SERIOUS issue in this area and is being ignored and lied about. The severity and frequency of theft to consumers and business owners is quite frankly astounding. Law enforcement needs to make this a top priority! Unfortunately our families two enclosed trailers were broken into, our high quality locks were cut by bolt cutters, $3k-$4k of personal property stolen from inside our trailers and damage done to the locking systems at the Flat Hollow Marina parking area (lot D). This is a paid parking area where no severe theft disclosure was reported, nor was it mentioned that the theft was so bad in the area that all of the security cameras have been damaged or stolen. I'm told even the hidden game cameras that were put up in the parking lots were stolen! A parking pass costs $25, buyer be ware... We reported the crime to the marina and local law enforcement and we know the theft occurred late evening 7/4/19 - early am 7/5/19. We spoke with marina management, locals and spent time with the local law enforcement divisions. Not something you want to do while on a family vacation. Marina staff, police and local residents confirmed (after lengthy conversations) that petty theft happens quite often in this area and is often committed by drug addicts. The reasons we feel lied to and deceived by Flat Hollow Marina are simple. No warnings of theft were given when a clear theft and drug epidemic exists in the immediate area. We were made aware of another theft at the marina on the evening of 7/4/19. We were told by marina staff that $2k of cash was stolen from the bar cash registers during the fireworks display (around the time of our theft). When we asked Marina management about their theft a few days after ours they completely denied that it even occurred. Not sure why the locals wanted me to personally take this up with the marina owner and mentioned a red side by side with a previous theft history? Also not sure why several staff did not show up for work the day after the thefts, inside job? I suspect the marine owner is well aware of the issue but telling everyone about it is bad for business. Warning to all tourists! Do not leave your cell phones or wallets laying around anywhere. Theft from the trailer parking area at this marina is VERY common, with numerous locals confirming that anything that can be easily sold at a pawn shop has a high potential to get stolen and sold if the opportunity presents itself to the criminal. We were visiting the area for our family vacation and have intentions of buying a lake home in the area in the near future. After our experience this week we will be looking for other areas of the lake and possibly other lakes... Local law enforcement is aware of the issue and I'm told there is a new Sheriff in town (not sure what county the deputy was referring to as we visited lots of marinas looking for the right spot). I sure hope the right steps are taken to correct this severe and sad issue. Some of the marinas hired law enforcement to patrol their parking lots and docks during the holiday. Another fail by Flat Hollow Marina as we had to wait over an hour for law enforcement to show up after our theft was reported. If they had hired security/law enforcement I suspect we both would have saved time and money this week. No responsibility or reconciliation was offered or taken by Flat Hallow Marina. If I were you, I would simply spend my money elsewhere until this issue is resolved. Vacations in this area are just not worth it when all factors are considered. Best of luck to all! read more

This is where you go when you want to get away from it all. It's a beautiful one hour drive from the heart of downtown Knoxville and it feels like a world away. The owners and staff are super friendly and helpful. Whether you're there for the day renting a boat/jet ski or staying the weekend in one of their chalets or FLOATING HOUSES, they will make sure you find exactly what you're looking for. Prices are moderate and the marina has a little store for any of your last minute lake necessities, including ice cold beer. If you find yourself hungry, there is also a restaurant onsite. Next time you're thinking of renting a cabin for a big group of people, check out Flat Hollow's house boats that house like 12 people. You can camp out on the lake for the weekend. They have full kitchens, bathrooms, a rooftop hot tub, and a slide. Speaking from experience, it doesn't get much better than this. read more

TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE!! Arrived to pickup the boat I reserved well in advance and was told sorry we don't have a boat. The boat was returned that morning broke and all back up boats were also broke, really? One call attempt was made in a place where service is very spotty. Instead of trying to find a solution I was simply told sorry no boat. After asking for a manger and waiting well over 30 minutes I was told the same thing. Not only after I suggested to call other Marinas to find a replacement did the manager do that. They ended up providing a broken boat that I had to sign additional waivers for. When you 11 people waiting for a boat to return the only option was to take a broken boat. Spent over 3 hours of my day dealing with this. After all of this how was I compensated, I was NOT. Asked to have the price lowered, asked to bring it back on empty, asked to have it picked up from our deck to gain back our lost time and the answer was NO to all. I would never recommend this marina unless you want to chance not getting a boat. Not to mention the manager had little to no customer service, he could have cared less about our time or the fact that numerous kids were going to be disappointed. read more

The views are breath taking and the Powell River / Norris Lake was amazing. The water is so clear and clean. Nice and warm to swim in. Great place to boat, fish, relax and have fun. Now let's get to the Marina. The staff working the desk are not friendly at all. One young man that just started working there 5 weeks ago was the friendliest and the most helpful. No one wears a name tag so they are just random people. Gary who was at check in was not friendly at all. He was either the mgr or the owner but he never introduced himself and I had to ask him his name. The heavy set girl (unk name) who checked us in was completely uninterested and not friendly. I paid $935 for 3 nights 4 days in cash. Most businesses would appreciate that but this one did not. The restaurant was like a diner from hell and not inviting. The cabin was clean but if needed some maintenance The WIFi was the worst. You have to be with 10 feet of the office to get a connection. I fish Canada at a remote fly in and the satellite WiFi was unbelievable. Considering the amount of money spent at this business I would expect a great connection not a amateur set up. read more

We stayed at the Oakwood Chalet over Labor Day, 2020. Wish we would have read some of the reviews before booking. Never received confirmation after calling 5 times, so therefore each time we were given the wrong total, then got hit with a much larger bill when we left. Bring cash because you will be charged $50 to pay by credit card. Following is a list of the things that need corrected. Many light bulbs out, mold & mildew in tubs. Were not informed we had to bring our own towels & wash cloths, so therefore you had to buy them in the marina for $6.00 each. Could not use hot tub because of dirt & styrofoam in the water. Could not use gas grill because gas was leaking from the regulator even after replacing tank. Toilet seat needs replaced in downstairs bathroom. Never told there was someone on call after marina closes. The owner actually lives in one of the chalets. Gary offered no compensation or discount to make this right!! Very very poor management!! read more

We ate dinner at this place and 6 of the 10 guys were puking for 10 hours the nextday. Only reason I give 2 stars is because the store was nice and people were friendly. Also when the staff was later asked about the bad food the gave a very scripted answer about how it was our lunch and not their dinner. My wife and I recently made a trip from Orlando, Florida to Tazewell, Tennessee for a fishing trip. We drove for eleven hours straight and were anxiously looking forward to renting a boat and trying our hand at fresh water fishing. We had booked a cabin on the lake at Flat Hollow Marina Resort (FHMR). Do not even consider staying at this place. The business model for Flat Hollow Marina Resort (FHMR) seems to be to tell you whatever they think you want to here and then when you discover that it isn't true they simply tell you "you can not get your deposit back and what are you going to do, cancel your vacation and drive back home". I do not know anything about running a resort, but it seems to me that customer service should enter the equation somewhere. Flat Hollow Marina Resort (FHMR) is run for the management, not the customers. Customer service does not seem to be in their vocabulary. Below is a part of the advertising for the place that my wife and I rented from Flat Hollow Marina Resort (FHMR). Two story 2 Bedroom (sleeps 8)/ 2 baths on the lake, with Central AC/Heat, two full baths, washer/dryer, telephone, satellite TV/VCR, complete kitchen including dishwasher, oven, refrigerator, microwave, toaster and coffee maker, etc. Has a large deck with gas grill overlooking the lake. We arrived at Flat Hollow Marina Resort (FHMR) and checked in. After unloading the car, I went to plug in my laptop to charge the battery. I could not figure out if the power strip next to the TV where I plugged in my laptop was on or off as the power light on the power strip didn't work. So, I tried to turn on the TV to see if the power strip was on. There were two remotes. Neither of them had any effect on the TV regardless of the position of the switch on the power strip. We had stopped at a grocery store in Tazewell just before we arrived at Flat Hollow Marina Resort (FHMR). Since it was about my normal dinner time, I decided to light the fire and cook some hamburgers. The gas grill would not function. The propane tank handle felt like it had been closed using a pipe wrench. I have a big hand and a pretty good grip and I could not get the handle to budge in either direction. I came inside and informed my wife that neither the TV nor the gas grill was working. She picked up the phone to call the Flat Hollow Marina Resort (FHMR) office only to find out that the phone did not function either. Think about that for a moment, we are in a location that does not have cell phone coverage, we are paying $175.00 a night and there is no phone. So we headed to the Flat Hollow Marina Resort (FHMR) office on foot. After all, we were shown where the steps were and told you can come straight down to the marina. The steps at Flat Hollow Marina Resort (FHMR) were something else. I know men who frame houses for a living. It is a time critical occupation and you can not waste time fooling around. None of them would have laid claim to the workmanship exercised on these steps. A carpenter would have run away screaming. A woodworker would not have even set foot on them for fear of being injured when they came crashing down. I do not think there were two boards in the entire set of steps that were parallel to each other. I took my laptop with me so that I could check my e-mail having been informed that the marina was a wi-fi available location. On the drive from Florida up to Tennessee, we stopped at a Wendy's since I had seen a sign that said they had wi-fi. I got my lunch, sat down and checked my e-mail. It was a piece of cake and was what I expected when we were told wi-fi was available at the Flat Hollow Marina Resort (FHMR) marina. Good thing I had that piece of cake earlier in the day because it was not to be so easy at the Flat Hollow Marina Resort (FHMR) marina. The process of registering (and paying) for the internet service was arduous and quite honestly and unnecessary pain in the neck. Guess who collects the money that you are paying for internet access. If you guessed the Flat Hollow Marina Resort (FHMR), you are correct. I understand the concept of a captive audience. You are way out in the boonies and you are at their mercy, the management at Flat Hollow Marina Resort (FHMR) are not going to let you forget that. When I completed the process of registering and paying, the first thing that came up on the screen was that my account had been suspended. That's right, the account that had just been opened moments before was just suspended. Internet access was the only requirement that I had placed on the entire trip. I told the Flat Hollow Marina Resort (FHMR) manager that this was not going to work. He actually laughed at me and said "What are you going to do? Lose your deposit and drive all the way back to Florida." read more

The houseboat was older but nice. Carpet had been redone, but not much else was updated. The boat was full of garbage bags from the previous renters and the septic holding tank was not fully emptied. The crew was great and took the garbage out right away. The ceiling fan was broken and all the speakers were blown if you turned it up. They did work at low volumes. You can not put toilet paper in the toilet, so plan on throwing smelly TP in the garbage and take it out frequently. So gross! Not sure why you can't use TP in the toilet as the grinder sounded like it was going to attack you every time you flushed. We have rented houseboats before and own an RV, so i know you can replace the grinders in to something TP friendly. The generator stopped working 3 times during the week. We were able to start it the first two times but the third time, we could not. While troubleshooting the generator issue, we found a leak in the engine compartment. They sent a boat out to assess the situation and ultimately we had to go back to the marina. After sitting in the marina all afternoon, they said they could not fix it and we'd have to stay overnight in the marina. It was our last day of the trip. We expressed our discontent and asked for a remedy of a 1 day credit as we lost a full day of vacation. Gary was reluctant to credit us until we approached him to let him know that our children were in the marina when he was discussing our predicament with a coworker and our children heard him laughing how we were upset that we lost a full day of vacation. Stupid Gary, know where your renters are while you are mocking them. The last night in the boat the CO2 detectors kept going off at 6:00am. Not sure why as there was no engine running. I only wish the wi-fi in the marina worked well enough to write the review from the marina. DO NOT rent from Flat Hollow. The lake is beautiful and we will rent again, just not from Flat Hollow. read more
