Panda Express is pretty consistent at the various locations I've visited and this visit was no different. My sister ordered carryout as we were in the process of moving my niece to the Knoxville area. A couple of our family members ordered orange chicken bowl with veggies and I had a spicy chicken dish (no breading on the chicken) with fried rice which I thought was really yummie. Plentiful portions to feed each of us and I ended up with leftover rice when I was finished. Service was as expected. Nothing notable to report here since it's basically a fast food version of Americanized Chinese food. Ambiance was not rated because we had carryout and well, it's a fast food style facility so it was average in that regard as well. During my next visit to Knoxville, I wouldn't hesitate to add this to my list of places for a grab-and-go meal. We were happy to have found one in the area during our visit before a few of us headed back home following the move. read more

We went to this location last Sunday 10/27, at 11:45 am. This is 45 minutes after they've opened. We were told it would be another 45 minutes before their steamed rice was ready. Seriously? Well, we went somewhere else because most of my family only likes the white rice. Fast forward to that evening around 8 pm. We went back thinking "surely they'll have enough white rice around dinner time." NOPE. Not one grain of white rice to be had. Once again we left and went somewhere else. Moved here in March 2020 and this was the third and final time eating at this Panda Express! The first 2 times were horrible, the food tasted like it was cooked days ago and heated in the microwave. The workers seem to rush your order out. Ate here last night and first they were out of green beans at 5:00pm! This is probably the best Panda I have ever been too in the country! Well I have been to many pandas at different states but the people here are just so nice and happy. Every time I walk I am greeted, always smiling and when I check out the cashier even brings my food AROUND the counter and hands it to me. I sometimes don't get this treatment at 5 Star restaurants. People complaining here about the food is not authentic they need to realize this is Panda Express take it easy. The first time I ever went to Panda Express was with my dad and it was terrible! My dads egg roll was still frozen in the middle, food was cold, etc. About 2 weeks ago I decided to give it one more try. I was craving Chinese food. I'm so glad I went back! I have the Panda Express app so I ordered my food there and you can pick when you want to pick it up. My food is always ready when I get there. It's also always warm-hot. Friendly staff as well. I always get chow mein and orange chicken and I recently tried their beef and broccoli which was amazing! I highly recommend giving Panda Express a try. The one thing I would say is when you use the app you can make special requests. I always ask for chop sticks but they never give them to me. I always have to ask. I went to pick up a door Dash order from here and was told it was just a few minutes. I waited for 45 minutes asking politely several times how much longer it would be on the order. I have been to multiple panda express locations throughout the country, most notably in California where every location makes the food just right. This location does not know how to cook the food. The meats have had a weird texture on multiple occasions, I am not sure if they are cooking it too fast or too long or what but it is definitely off. The flavor is not right either. My favorite thing is the sweet fire chicken and I have had it at this location at least 5 times now and one time it was so bad I didn't even eat it (which is crazy because I LOVE sweet fire chicken). It breaks my heart that they are so bad at making the dishes taste right because I could get over their other flaws but bad flavoring is not excusable. Another big factor is the freshness of the food. This place needs to seriously work on managing how much food they make. All 4 entrees myself and my friend got were old on my first visit. This turned out to be the case at each of my follow up trips as well. I saw them put out fresh orange chicken and then dump a giant mound of super old chicken on top and half way mix it in when it was clear it should have been thrown away (I understand dumping a little bit of old dish on top but this stuff was crusty because they are making batches big enough for a busy California location). They simply need to make less food more often. I am changing my rating from 3 stars to 2 stars because I originally gave 3 stars assuming I had just got unlucky with the not fresh food. Bottom line, they need to get someone in there to train the staff on how to make the dishes taste right and how to manage the volume of food cooked. Old dishes that don't taste right is, obviously, a deal breaker. If you are in the area I can't even advise you try it out unless you are a die hard panda express fan and even then, try it knowing you might be throwing it away and going elsewhere. Teriyaki chicken was actually full of flavor and the Beijing Beef was crunchy. Fried rice was quite bland, but that may be because other flavors masked it. A friend who goes there more often than I do tells me that the Shanghai Angus Steak isn't bad either, but I haven't personally tried it so I can't give an honest opinion. Overall, I'd recommend having at least one vegetable dish if you're getting 2 entrees or more. Poor service, server didn't actually give me a full scoop of rice until I asked for it. The guy working the register also kept me waiting for a while because he had to get his manager to unlock something (?) However, I did like the fact that the restaurant was quite clean and the whole store was quite well-lit. It gets a bit hectic during the lunch/dinner rush, so going on an off hour would probably make for a better experience. 3 stars (more like 2.5 but Yelp doesn't support halves) because the general atmosphere of the restaurant made up for the poor quality of the food.
