STAY AWAY!!!! This company should be taken out of business for fraud!! They charged our client OVER $9000 to clean 3 rugs and a sofa, which should have cost no more than $3000. We are a design firm that hired them to spot clean a custom area rug that the dog had soiled. Long story short, they ended up removing 3 carpets from the house for cleaning. Upon returning them, they charged the client without consulting with us first. Not only did they take advantage of our client by charging her an obscene amount of money (knowing she would not know otherwise), they also failed to return one rug pad stating 'it was unnecessary to have' and incorrectly cleaned one of the wool carpets causing it to become limp and roll at the edges. When we called to express our utter SHOCK at the cost of the cleaning and the problems that needed to be corrected, the manager had the nerve to YELL at me for being upset. When we requested to speak with the owner since he would not have a reasonable conversation with us, he refused stating that we were calling him a liar and thief. He tried to tell us that the custom rug OUR company designed and manufactured cost $35,000 and that it required expensive cleaning. Our company has been in the design business for over 12 years and designs and manufacturers custom woven rugs. We have NEVER seen such absurd pricing - even if the original rug did cost $35,000, which it did not! Flat Rate's prices are highway robbery!! and their customer service is non-existent!! We even called 2 other reputable carpet cleaners to get comparison pricing and neither came anywhere close to the cost of Flat Rate. We could have replaced 2 of the area rugs for what they charged to clean them. read more

I recently moved into a new apartment in Sunnyside and wanted the place completely sanitized. I called Flatrate, they came right in the middle of the window we settled on and everything came out great. Here are a couple things to know: 1. Talk to the technician and show him all the trouble areas, he will make sure to take care of them. 2. Don't be scared to negotiate. I asked for 20% OFF or else I would have to price shop. They didn't give me a hard time and said it's pretty standard for first time customers. Actually, they have coupons on the website that I did not see and the technician just applied the code for me. 3. Tight time frames will not work for MOST service companies. I asked for an exact time but they were straight up and said it's not possible with traffic and etc. Fair enough. They were thorough, the technicians were nice and I would use them again. I doubt I would ever do a full cleaning like this again unless I am moving into a new apartment, but I look at it being like a maid service. The first time is always a deep clean - and then its just routine after that. Use the coupons, they really don't mind. I thought I would get less service but it's a competitive market out there - so every dollar counts - and they wan't to keep you as a customer. read more

Updated review - 11/2017 I had used Flat Rate a couple of years ago and was very happy with the price and service. This year I called them for the same job on the same rugs they had done before. I was quoted one price on the phone - they had my rugs in the system - and when their representative came over to pick them up he said it would actually be 2 1/2X MORE expensive than the phone quote. He didn't give any reason why. If you do use them be sure to ask where their cleaning facility it - there's no way they'll let you know because as it turns out they subcontract. Use your google skills to find the real rug cleaners in the area - you'll be happy you did and won't pay inflated prices. Here's my old review: Yes, you have to haggle for a price. And yes, they didn't show up during two windows of time to bring my previously pee-stained carpet back. HOWEVER - they did call within the windows to say they couldn't make - the second time it was because they had to give it a second cleaning to get the odor out. AND they didn't try to tack on any extra charges! They also took off $20 for the delays - all in all, my rug came back smelling great and the cost was entirely reasonable. I had a very unpleasant moving experience from Boston a few months ago that resulted in black and brown marks all over my sofa and sofa cushions. I'm still not sure how this happened or where it came from since everything was wrapped in painter's plastic. Basically, there was a lot of back and forth between myself and the moving company to remedy this issue and they finally agreed to cover half the cost of upholstery cleaning. Flat Rate was near by so I called them. Within an hour, they sent someone out to do a free estimate. My service tech, Tom, explained my situation to one of their customer service reps who contacted the movers for me and got them to sign off on and fax back the invoice within minutes so Tom could get started immediately and I wouldn't have to argue with them anymore. It was pretty awesome to get such prompt, friendly and helpful service after a lousy experience with the moving company. Tom had to go over the sofas and cushions a few times to get all the stains out and did a fantastic job of it. Pleased and will use them again. read more

I recently purchased the Crate & Barrel Petrie sofa, chair and ottoman from a seller on Craiglist and while I loved the design and structure of the furniture, it was definitely in need of a deep cleaning !!! I contacted Flate Rate and Eric Perez came over to do an estimate for me !!! I was very impressed with his professionalism and his explanation as to the type of cleaning that was preferred for the type of furntiure and I appreciated his knowledge !!! He immediately started working efficiently and with little disruption to my living room !!! I kept offering to move furniture and other items, but he was able to move around freely and with no problem !!! In the end, I was pleased with the results and his recommendations as to how to care for the items going forward !!! I used Flat Rate Carpet to have my microfiber couch cleaned after a cat of our urinated on it. Obviously, I wanted this problem to be fixed as soon as possible. I searched and found Flat Rate Carpet cleaners and gave them a call. They had an opening for later that day and two technicians came over to provide an estimate for the cleaning service for free. There was no obligation to accept their offer, but it was reasonably priced when comparing it to other cleaners in the area and they were ready to get started right away. The technicians brought up the machine and gave the couch a thorough cleaning. Additionally, they even provided tips on how to avoid stains in the future. It took about three hours to dry and the couch was better than it was before! The previous stains were gone and there was no evidence of the cat ever being there before. The service was prompt, thorough, and competitively priced. I would definitely recommend if anyone is in need of quick yet meticulous service! read more

This is one of the most disappointing companies, I have ever worked with. They picked up a silk carpet last November, promised me complete restoration after water damage. First delivery was supposed to be in December. Called one day before and cancelled. Second delivery was scheduled for March, supposedly one of the managers delivered it himself and agreed, that the carpet was filthy and still smelled of mold and looked like it has not been worked on. He took it back and it was finally delivered on 4/27/19 after not showing up once again on 4/24/19 as previously scheduled. So, It took a total of 5 months to get a 5' by 3' carpet back and it still was not restored as promised. I feel completely taken advantage of by this company. Full restoration never took place. The color stains from the water damage are still visible and I am a dissatisfied customer. After a hefty discount, I still paid by far too much. The people I delt with, were Ron, Michael and Jack. For several years, I had been looking for a company to clean my Rental Tenant's Carpets with no luck. Finally, someone told me that Flat Rate Carpet would be good for my needs. After working with Jack with a quote discussed over the phone and with explanations. He sent a technician to my house on the same day. The carpets had not been clean in 3 years. They suffered at the hands (or paws) of cats from accidents plus, over the years. They were raunchy. They're expensive carpets and I was very paranoid about any chemical treatment. This company knows what they're doing and the tech guy was very professional. He explained everything and took care to be careful with the furnishings. They did a fantastic job. The price was reasonable at $250. I opted to buy treatment for future spills, which will definitely be worth its cost. My complaints with past tenants are over and the new ones are very happy. My mother recently had moved out her house, and she had this HUGE rug she wanted to give me..but the color seemed faded and it just looked all dusty. (After knowing she kept it in her basement for who knows how many years) ..I ended up taking it, and browsed around a few carpet cleaning companies. I had a few guys come to my house from other companies and they were charging me an arm and a leg. I then was recommend by a good friend of mine to call up Flat Rate. I was told that eric was the guy for the job. He was a really friendly guy and seemed to be on top of his game. Very knowledgeable and did the job spectacular!..Dont get me wrong, i was surprised on how much they were charging me compared to the other companies but i gave it a shot and im glad that i did. These guys are great! I have a 10 x 14 Oriental wool rug that needed to be cleaned and have some wrinkles steamed out. Flat Rate came to my house to give me a free estimate, came in with a better price than the competition and, after we agreed to the service, moved my furniture and took the rug right away. Some places charge extra if you don't drop the rug off, but not these guys. They explained the cleaning process to me and then showed me a video of rugs being cleaned at their warehouse in Brooklyn. (They also have a feature where you can watch your own rug being cleaned on live cam.) The guys were very nice and polite and returned my rug in pristine condition 10 days later. I would definitely use Flat Rate again for my other rugs. They work out of Brooklyn, but I live in Westchester and apparently they handle the whole tri-state area. read more

I am truly surprised on the bad reviews. As for my end, i never have been more satisfied! I had a young man by the name of eric do my job. I would recommend him to anyone who expects to get a good job done. To start off, he showed up on time and very well prepared. He explained step by step what needed to be done to clean my carpet due to a little accident my dog had on it as well. In detail he explained what products he would be using, and the job alone took about 20-30 minutes. The ending result was that my carpet looked brand new, and it smelled amazing once he finished the job. He was very professional in the way he spoke to me and handled the job and to top it off, i was hit with a great price. What more could you possibly ask for? read more

Superior customer service! I spoke with a man named Daniel who set up a time to come look at the rug and quote me on it. They took the time to explain to me why a rug of my caliber(silk and soiled with dog urine) would cost as much as it does to clean. After a long winded conversation they quoted me at a number I felt comfortable with (a bit less than the other companies I had spoken with, park slope you are way overpriced) and took the rug in to get to work. After a few short days we got our rug back looking and smelling as good as ever. I am happy to say, now I don't have to cringe at the thought of my one year old son laying his down on our carpet. Everyone's nightmare...I came back from vacation to a flood that had occurred at some point. When I opened my door it smelled like sewage. Make a long story short, Flat Rate Carpet cleaners were the only ones that would come out, last minute no less. The guy came gave me an estimate (reasonable for 3 bedrooms and a small hallway) and did the job the same day! He said I wouldn't smell a thing. I was skeptical because they did the job in 10 minutes.He was right. No smell. I had the carpet replaced after, only because of the floor that was damaged due to the flood. When my dogs were puppies they liked to run around making messes, peeing everywhere, knocking things over. I didn't even notice how bad my carpet was until one of my friends came over and said how bad it looked. So we got to talking about it and Flat Rate came up, so I gave them a call. Great costumer service over the phone. When they came over to see my carpet, they were easy to talk to, very friendly, and reassuring. They told me it would take about the rest of the day. I left to go walk my dogs, run a few errands, hang out at my sisters house. When I got back it looked as if I never had dogs in my life. Friendly, fast, and affordable. I have a carpet that was cleaned and stored with Flat Rate since last year as I was doing a NY-CA move and at that time, wasn't sure what to do with carpet. This May, I called up Flat Rate to sort out the logistics of shipping the carpet to CA. It was a daunting task as the 9 by 12 carpet was too small for freight shipping, and too big for regular Fedex/UPS. However, the staff was very very helpful. We eventually figured out how to fold the carpet to fit within UPS dimensions (after several tries), all of this was done remotely as I'm in CA. The carpet arrived, cleaned, just like new. My mom has this obsession with her snow white shag rug in the living room, she gets agro about no shoes on it and absolutely no eating or drinking on or near it. After the recent hurricane Irene, my basement had been flooded and there was this horrible smell wafting up the stairwell into my house.
