DO NOT USE this company. My long-distance move was a complete disaster! I called multiple companies before I made my decision to use them. What a mistake, the long-distance woman at their company stopped taking my calls because every time I called, she could not tell me WHERE my items/truck was (not kidding) Manny was my sales rep at Flat Rate, after he closes the sale, he DOES not help you. He kept telling me to call the Long-Haul Moving dept. The truck arrived LATE (no call) the driver got into a cussing match with his supervisor, his two guys were very good in wrapping and packing but it took them longer to get the truck loaded than what they were told? Only a two-bedroom two bath and one car garage...I packed everything and wrapped all my art with bubble wrap as my stepdad was a mover and I grew up in this industry! So much to say 17 days later the truck arrived. The driver was not the same as loaded, he was SO RUDE and made racist remarks. My stuff was missing and BROKEN...we paid for extra coverage and filed a claim for damages and only received a check for $560. This should have been a lawsuit...however it would cost us too much money and they know this and do NOT care. One Star is too generous. A TOTAL disgrace at every level, hopefully my post will affect their business since we could not fight with lawyers. read more

I called them and left a voicemail and texted them 2 hours later. After that the voicemail was full and they never answered their phone or called me back. I literally felt like I was stuck and had already paid over 200 dollars for their services. I had to call another company and pay an additional 300 dollars. DISCLOSURE: THIS IS A LENGTHY REVIEW. PLEASE READ ENTIRE REVIEW I wish I could give no stars. I wish I read the reviews before using them. This company was by far the worst moving company I have ever used. All was fine until the day we were moving. We made a reservatipn 2 weeks in advance and they even called the night before to confirm they'd be there at 10am. 11am rolls around and they haven't showed. After many calls and trying to get new movers, they show up finally at being 4.5 hours late. They don't apologize, the first thing he says to me is "your time starts now". They begin working (extremely slow I will add) and after 20 min the guy starts complaining relentlessly about the stairs (it was one flight). He then says to me, if i want to save money, he will stand in the truck and I bring him our stuff. We had to be out so I just started moving stuff, and he has the nerve to say "the faster the better, this stuff gets expensive". Finally the truck is packed after 2 hours and they did not tie anything down! We get to the new place and we have some food for family helping, and the guy starts eating our food instead of moving stuff!! Again he starts complaining about the work. He tells us he will only move the stuff to our garage instead of inside the house otherwise he will charge us another hour. When it was over THEY WOULD NOT WORK WITH US ON THE PRICE even though they were 4.5 hours late, ate our food, stopped working and made us help. Absolutely the most unprofessional moving company ever. In June 2015, we hired Flat Rate Movers to move from a 4 bedroom home into another 4 bedroom home in Union County, NC. We do not recommend this company and are writing this review as a warning to potential customers. The Good ~ They provided a quote in advance. Based on the detailed list we provided to them in writing, they provided us a quote of 9 hours. They moved within the estimated 9 hour timeframe. ~ The movers showed up on time. ~ They brought their own truck. ~ They brought moving dollies. ~ They brought furniture pads/covers. ~ They partially disassembled some of our furniture. The Bad ~ On the quote, they listed the following: 1-17'FT Truck - 2 Professional Movers - Loading/Unloading to completion - Dollies, Full valve insurance, furniture pads, Cardboard Plastic wrap, carpet runners, assembly/re-assembly. Gas Included. All Packing materials are included. Crating will be determined onsite. a) The truck was a basic box truck with no logos/signage and did not have a moving ramp. b) If the movers were professional, they were not experienced. Although one appeared to be more experienced than the other, the decisions made throughout the moving process were not done with the best care of our property and peace of mind. c) The movers barely used their dollies. They did not secure items that were on the dollies. As a result, they dropped our dryer while coming down the stairs...thankfully, it was not damaged. d) They did not use the furniture pads/covers. As a result, they damaged our cherry wood dining room table, the dresser in our guest room, our entertainment center, our sofa/loveseat, etc. e) Carpet runners were not used at either the old or new house f) They disassembled our kids' bunk beds...and did not properly secure all of the pieces. As a result, we are missing some of the hardware. The Ugly The day before our scheduled move, we moved our own boxes to decrease the necessary amount of time based on the estimate they provided (9 hours). This had no positive impact as the movers still took 9 hours. The move should have taken no longer than 6 hours. Here's the actual list of items that needed to be moved on moving day: ~ dining room table, 8 chairs ~ entertainment center; 55" TV; loveseat; sofa ~ eat-in kitchen table, 6 chairs ~ 2 bookcases; computer desk with hutch; file cabinet; tv stand ~ full mattress and box spring w/bed; dresser w/mirror; chest; desk ~ twin full size bunk beds; dresser ~ king mattress and box spring ~ washing machine and dryer ~ refrigerator In addition: ~ The moving truck had a couple of items on it. The truck should have been empty. ~ When the dryer was dropped down the stair, the door swung open downward because the dryer was being moved with the door at the bottom (towards the floor). ~ The garage door in our new home was removed to bring the washer and dryer into our laundry room. It was not returned to its previous state. Thankfully, we knew how to fix it. ~ The walls going up the stairs in our new home were damaged. ~ Nearing the end of the moving process, we noticed the damage to our cherry wood dining room table as it was being unloaded. We immediately brought the damage to the attention of the movers. In addition...before the movers left, we spoke with the company rep who scheduled the move. We advised the rep of the damage and immediately provided pictures via e-mail before the movers left. The rep said he would forward the e-mail to the claims department. We have followed up SEVERAL times over the past 2 months. We have not heard anything from the moving company. read more

Regret using this company. I used them before and although they were late the first time, the reps were professional and got the job done. This time...They were two hours late, broke and scratched several pieces of furniture and clearly did not want to work that day. One of the two of them complained about working. The attitude towards working showed in the way they handled my items. I submitted pics of the damage to the service department and have not heard anything back. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY on this " moving company". I use the words "moving company" loosely because from my experience I do not have proof this is an actual "company". THEY NEVER SHOWED UP. I was referred to the movers by a friend of a friend who had nothing but good things to say about them. Unfortunately, I could not research the company prior to my move because the name I received from my friend was Movers Flat Rate not Flat Rate Movers. But I didn't make a big deal about it because of the friends good feedback. Judging from these review I guess that person's experience was one in a million. I scheduled my move on a Tuesday for a move the following Saturday. I spoke to Eric the day before my move, he assured me the movers would show up between 11am-12pm with all the packing materials needed. On Saturday my moving timeframe came and went but still no mover. I decide to call them thinking maybe they were held up on another job. At 12:30 I left a voicemail to follow up. Needless to say THEY NEVER CALLED ME BACK. Saturday night I followed up with the company to see what happened but did not get an answer. My friend called from a different number and the company called them within minutes. I experience my issue foolishly hoping they could move my heavy things the next day. On the call I discovered 1) my address was not correct,2) the appointment time was wrong 3) they did not have my phone number on file. When I explained how much of an inconvenience their error caused me the person was completely unapologetic and not even a little empathetic. The mover went on to say I would still have to pay the deal quoted of 2hrs for $125 regardless of their errors. He went on to say their company has the cheapest moving rate around (as if that would help the situation). I came confused as to how this so called company is till in business. Horrible SCAM! Do not use Flat Rate Movers of Rock Hill. I bought a living social voucher for 2 hours of service and scheduled a move 10 days out. I called to confirm two days prior and they told me that they had me for a morning appointment. That morning, they confirmed between 9-10, after no one showed up they said definitely between 12-1 and then when no one showed up for that, they said 5:30. At 8:00 PM they told me that someone else could still come that night but then called back 30 minutes later and canceled. So we wasted an entire day and had no movers to show for it. I'm even calling Living Social to let them know that they are advertising for a company that doesnt care about people or their reputation. I had them scheduled to move from my house on 12/13/15 and they did not show. I even spoke to someone by the name of Matthew who is the ONLY person that ever answers as it seems like it's his personal phone number, and then he doesn't clear his messages all the time so at times you can't even leave a voicemail. The move was scheduled at 11am and Matthew assured me that around 10-10:30am someone would call me. At 10:35am, still no call and Matthew said I will have someone call you. They NEVER SHOWED UP. We called them from 11am-1pm before we just gave up and found another moving company. Thank goodness for Carolina Pack and Load as they came at 2pm and were able to move us both fast and expeditiously. I would DEFINITELY recommend them to anyone! I call Flat rate Movers three weeks before my move gave them all my information, two days before the move I called this company to see if everything is still good, could not get a hold of this company all day, they called me back at 7:35pm that night. I ask them are you guys still schedule to move me, who every the person was that call me said yes and they have all my information and will be there between 8AM and 9AM. The day of the move THEY DID NOT SHOW UP!!!!!, I call and text them until noon waiting for a call back, until this day I have not receive a call, text, e-mail from these people. I had to call several other moving companies that day to move my family and I, to call a moving company the day of a move! The moving company that move me that day was not finish until 9PM. The worst experience ever! This was the most unprofessional moving company I have ever used. BEWARE the groupon deal. The company was extremely late and after waiting three hours, they called and asked to reschedule. Since I had to be out of my place that day and couldn't reschedule, the owner sent two young guys with a moving truck with a HUGE hole in the back. I thought my items were going to fall out. The guys were obviously not professional movers and there as a favor to the owner (they actually said that out loud). The men struggled the entire time, which in turn meant I had to pay more money for the labor. We had to help them move most of the items. Once they were finished, I discovered that almost every glass item I owned was broken. BUYERS BEWARE. I will never use them again. read more

I called the owner to ask him to check if they saw the box on the truck and was told I would receive a call back. I never received a call back. My bf called and was told that by this time they would have discarded anything that was left behind, the owner took over a month. DO NOT USE THIS SCAM COMPANY!!! I should have read these reviews before buying the LivingSocial deal because similar to other customer experiences, this company was terrible! I reserved my appointment a couple of weeks in advance for a 1 PM - 2 PM time window. At 1:55 PM on the day of the move, no movers are there so I call the "owner", Sam, and it's very apparent that they have zero way of keeping track of reservations and he had no clue who I was or that his company was supposed to be at my house already. Red Flag #1. He tells me he can have his movers can show up in the next 20 minutes and he'll throw in an extra mover (how thoughtful). An hour later, 3 men show up dressed in last night's clothes (don't expect company shirts, that would be way too professional for this group) in a beat up delivery truck with no logo. Red Flag #2. The third mover that the owner threw in so graciously never even bothered to get out of the truck and slept the entire first hour of the two hour move. All of the above shenanigans aren't the end of the world, just shitty business practices, but to top it all of, they proceeded to destroy the staircase in my new house. Not just scratched the paint, they left huge indentions in the wall and scratched the hardwood stairs. Come to find out a week later, they caused a 10-inch crack in one of the stairs that will need to be replaced. They couldn't even get a queen size box-spring up the staircase and proceeded to back-talk my girlfriend when she called them out on their bullshit (quote: "Mam, we are the professionals here"). Professionals my ass, it took my girlfriend and I all of 10 minutes to get two box-springs up the same staircase once these idiots left. In the end, it was a huge mistake to not do more research on this company and go with a more experienced and expensive alternative. You get what you pay for and in our case, we now get to pay for the damages/repairs to our new house. read more

This is the worst experience I have ever had in my entire life! Do NOT use this company. It is a living nightmare working with them.I bought the deal through living social thinking it was a legit business. Which they are not! 1. They did not show up on the scheduled day or even bother to call to let me know. When I called to see why they hadn't showed up yet they placed me on hold and then the phone disconnected. I tried all evening to get a hold of them with no luck. I even called Living Social and got them involved but they couldn't either. 2. I called the next morning to get a hold of some one, after several phone calls we finally set up for them to show up at 4pm that day. They showed up over an hour late with a run down moving truck. When they opened the back gate it was full of junk and trash. It took them over 10 minutes to move the junk to the back of the truck to make room for my stuff. 3. It took about 30 minutes to pack up my belongings. We pull out of the driveway to head to the new house and not even a 1/2 mile down the road the truck broke down. It took over 5 HOURS for the new truck to arrive. My poor Father sat in the rain the entire time to make sure my stuff was safe. 4. They finally show up to my new home after 10pm. They bang my furniture into the walls leaving all kinds of marks. They only had a few things left on the truck when they told me their manager was just sitting in the driver seat. I went out there and gave him a piece of my mind after what I had been through. He looked at me and said "Do you want me to say something? You owe me $50 for taxes write a check to cash". Which I did not feel comfortable doing so I said no I want a secure form of payment. He then said " We can follow you to an atm to get the money". Which sounds like the best way to get robbed. I told him with a police escort I would. They left before the police arrived. When I told the police what happened he asked that I call immediately if I see the men or the truck around the neighborhood. 5. At 1 am I realized they forgot a piece of my bed frame on the truck. I called them this morning several times with no answer. I called from my work number which they finally called back. They said nothing was on the truck and "it was my fault the move was so bad since I tried to move cheaply." Please save yourself the anger and grief by not using this company. The supervisor started off kind of rude, but got better as time passed. They charged by the hour, but one of the men was constantly on the phone and they were standing around wasting time. Afterwards, I discovered the glass on my microwave is broken. They broke it then placed it in a box faced down and lied when i asked if i heard something break. There's no glass in the box, so I'm sure they were aware of what took place. Please spend a couple of extra dollars on professionals. read more

Two months ago, we hired Flat Rate Movers (704-492-3748) in Charlotte to move our things. I DO NOT recommend this company! First, they showed up in a logo-free truck that was too small for the job discussed. Then, they damaged our brand new refrigerator as they tried to squeeze it into the front door. The handles were scratched up. They provided an email address to file a claim, but no phone number was provided (red flag). We have not received a response, besides an automated email that says "we have received your email." Each handle for our refrigerator costs approximately $100. Initially i read the 1 review that was posted and I thought maybe that is just 1 person but now im reading others and I went through a very similar experience. They told me i would receive a courtesy call the day before and when they were on the way. i never received either. So i called all day from my number and I got no answer and the voicemail was full so i couldnt leave a message. When i called from any other phone i got an answer but the so called manager i spoke with with extremely rude and unprofessional but then eventually confirmed that even though the movers are late they will be there...They never showed up and i heard nothing else from them. i had figured that much so i went ahead and rented my own truck and moved myself. This was the very short version of my experience but i did also want to warn others to NEVER use this company. Promised all sorts of "added values" but when it came time to deliver, they were nowhere to be found. Promised boxes and tape before the move, but, of course, they did not show up. Pretty much like everyone else, I agree, DO NOT HIRE THIS COMPANY! First they showed up & accused me that I made an appointment at 8am which the appointment was made for 10am and almost didn't want to move my things. On top of that they cracked my table. I contacted Sam who apparently was the "owner" he told me to email their "claims department" which I'm sure is no department at all. I have submitted numerous pictures and emailed them 5 times with no response at all. This was over a month ago now! I finally got through to Sam via the # listed online and once he knew it was me said he was "transferring me" to this "claims department", no what he did was just put me on hold until I hung up so he didn't have to handle my situation since I continued to call him. Now whenever I call there is no answer. Pretty sure he is avoiding my calls purposely. I called right back and left a lengthy voicemail letting them know how I felt about their company and the actions I will now take. WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER!!! I explained I will be contacting the BBB and a lawyer and still no response as if they don't even care that their business will go under! Goes to show how serious they take this crap company. DO NOT USE THEM!! I hired this company for 2 hrs on this past Saturday because my house sold and we were closing on Monday. I confirmed the appt on the Friday before and he confirmed 2 men with a truck between 1-2 for 2 hours. I waiting on Saturday until after 2:00 and tried to call the number that I had called before. Rang and rang...left a voicemail. Called back SEVERAL times and even had my friend call from a different number...then the phone was turned OFF! After reading the reviews on this company, I started to panic. I blew their phone UP...no answer. I HAD to be out on THAT day so I had no other choice (since they wouldn't answer the phone!) but to hire Queen City Movers. THANK GOD there were willing to do it at the last minute and were there within 2 hours! SUPER nice guys! Flat Rate Movers called over 2.5 hours later as a "Courtesy call" to let me know they were running late. I told them that had they given me a "Courtesy call" to let me know they were running behind; 2.5 hrs EARLIER, I wouldn't have had to hire someone else! This company out-right LIED to me. They damages my goods, did not come when they agreed (even though it was clearly indicated on the "estimate). They did not provide a bill of lading (as promised) with an itemized listing of my goods. The location for my temporary storage DID NOT EXIST...I paid for climate control storage. When I contacted the "storage" facility, they advised "THEY NEVER HEARD OF FLAT RATE MOVERS and DID NOT have climate control storage. WHERE WAS MY GOODS?? Derek (the liar) finally called me back after two weeks of numerous phone calls and emails. THAT's when I was informed that my estimate was under estimated and that I owed an additional $850 more. This was after I paid for the entire move in advance (for pick-up, storage and delivery). They literally held my goods "HOSTAGE" and would only deliver goods in TWO Separate trucks, requiring me to pay 1/2 of the $850 before they would deliver the 2nd truck. WHAT A SCAM! I reported them to the NC State Utilities Commission and was told that company has been fined by the state and does NOT have a Certificate to operate. The highway patrol was sent to my house because they want to "catch'" them operating without a State Issued Certificate...true to form, they did not come at the time promised and the patrolman could not wait.
