    Broken dresser

    I recently moved with Hector and Sons and it was the absolute worst experience I've ever had! To summarize from start to finish: 1. Quoted one price (hourly rate and travel fee) in writing via email, and then increased their rates on me. When I asked about the difference, they essentially said it was a business decision; I thought I should have been locked into the first written rate. Regardless, they estimated LOW to get my business, but in reality it took DOUBLE their estimate. They only accept cash as payment, so you can't dispute any charges. This should have been a red flag. 2. The company was extremely unprofessional. During the move, one mover in particular walked into my home (2 bedroom townhouse) and said "oh sh*t, you have a lot of stuff" and then requested that I pack my boxes lighter because "they get tired." They also ran out of shrink wrap for my furniture (even though I paid more for this specificially). 3. They damaged SO MANY pieces of furniture and didn't bring it to my attention, even though several items were blatantly damaged - I'm talking a chunk of wood missing from the front of a dresser, a metal piece inside the dresser snapped in half (no way they could have missed it while reassembling the drawers since they didn't close properly), and lots of nicks and chips throughout. 4. I discovered the damage and shared photos with the company shortly after the move. They insisted that filing an insurance claim wouldn't be a fair payout and promised to make it right. At first, they asked if they could come pick up the furniture to repair it, but I was uncomfortable with that option. Then, they asked to come out to see the damage - reasonable request. They sent one of the movers, who said he "only makes a few dollars per move" and was required to pay for the damage out of his pocket. He asked if he could have a furniture repair company try to fix some of the damage on site as a first step. During this discussion we specifically agreed that he could TRY to have the furniture repaired by a licensed and insured company, but if it wasn't in like-new condition I'd need a replacement or a refund. He agreed. The guy who came to fix the furniture used to work with the mover. He "repaired" the damage as best as he could visually, but mostly used a wood-colored marker to fill in the chips. While some of the items look improved, it's not physically fixed - there are still nicks/chips in the wood and you can see where the damaged sections remain. I shared pictures of the furniture post-repair with Hector and Sons. Since my furniture was still damaged, I requested a refund. They said "accidents happen" and refused to refund my money or replace the items as we previously agreed. Now they won't answer any of my calls. I plan to pursue further action.

    Efficient, fast, and careful with our things. Good communication throughout. Also was available for last minute scheduling. Would use again!

It took a lot of time to get our items into the truck and was starting to get worried. I will say this, we didn't have damage to our furniture most likely due to Nick wrapping our furniture like a mummy. While loading was slow and concerning, the experience improved greatly with the unload. They arrived to the destination quickly and were unloading, placing the furniture and getting stuff put back together very quickly. The guys are professional, courteous and responsive. They requested a video call to give an accurate estimate of how many movers and trucks we would need. When their estimate came in (5 movers, 3 trucks and 7 hours) we thought that seemed a bit much but we deferred to their experience. I am giving them 2 stars because they did arrive on time, they generally protected our furniture and homes, The team leader was polite enough and the initial customer service was good - up until moving day. Things we had problems with: 1) The 5 movers were very disorganized and inefficient. This meant they couldn't load all the furniture we requested and during unloading they still went more than 2 hours past their own unloading estimate. When my husband found items in incorrect rooms, they failed to put them in correct rooms, despite repeated requests. We are still finding clearly labeled boxes and furniture in the wrong rooms. 2) The movers used my husband's tools without his permission and still did not assemble the items they were using the tools on correctly. 3) The amount of truck space was mis-estimated. The second truck had barely anything in it. Perhaps because they didn't load all they said they would, but that second truck was expensive. 4) Despite expressing concerns they damaged several items and dented our basement ceiling. 5) And finally, I reached out to them 3 times to try to resolve the issues. Each time they set up a call, which I rearranged my work schedule to take, and then ghosted me. We delayed finishing our move almost 2 weeks because we hoped they would make things right, but they failed repeatedly to communicate. In the end, after paying them over $3k for an incomplete move, my husband and I still had to rent a uhaul to finish our move. I will never use their services again and I recommend you don't either.

    This was our first time using a moving company so we were very intentional with who we chose as we…read moredidn't want anything to go missing or broken. We did a ton of research and decided on Reign as it was more expensive than other options so we figured would be higher quality. They also had all 5 star reviews so we figured it would be the best. We are now wondering why this is. They are definitely more expensive. They charge more per hour and they also charge a $350 'truck fee' that no one else charges from quotes we got. We were charged over $1700 for 5 hours. What we liked- - It was easy to schedule and they had our date available a few weeks out. They offered to set up a FaceTime to look at our items and make sure they sent out the appropriate number of trucks. - They gave us an hour window of when they would show up, and an update the morning of so we knew when to expect them. - They were nice and made sure they knew exactly what we wanted. We did one last walk through of the old place before we left. They made sure we were happy before they left the new place. We had 3 movers who were kind and seemed trustworthy. - They listened to the writing on the boxes of where to put the boxes in the new house and if it didn't have writing, they put it in the equivalent room in the new house of where they found it in the old house. - They were careful with our things and were able to unassemble and reassemble our pieces. They also wrapped up the furniture items with blankets to preserve them. - They worked quick and efficiently Why we aren't giving them 5 stars: - they stopped at the gas station between the old house and new house and arrived at the new house 30 minutes after us when we were right behind them the whole way up until the gas station. They did ask us if they could stop to get snacks but I didn't realize it would take this long and they did not deduct this from the time they billed us for. - They asked us if we wanted mattress bags for $15 each. I said yes as I figured this would be something we could keep and save for future moves. They did not leave us the bags. So we paid $30 to basically 'rent' 2 bags which I feel we should have been able to keep or not be charged for. Next time I will buy the $15 ones off Amazon that I can keep. - They took a shelf out of our entertainment stand. In the move the nails/pegs fell out. These are specialty nails to hold the shelf in. Now we are unable to use the shelf, and the piece sags without the shelf in. We have since gotten rid of it and gotten a new one. - The top of our desk will not fit properly on when this was never previously an issue and we ultimately can't fix it and will need to get a new one. - They were about to leave and I noticed something was missing so I asked about it and they had to go back on the truck to get it. If I didn't ask, they would've left with it still in the truck. - They did not deliver 2 small decorative pieces of ours that were the last items on the truck- not packed in a box. Which not a huge deal but I noticed shortly after they left, contacted the company, and they were not able to find them. We are completely unpacked and I know these things are not at either of our houses. ** which they did reimburse us for these things which we are thankful for!! Also customer service was very helpful at first when we were trying to find these items and discuss reimbursement, but then it was pretty hard to get ahold of them to confirm our reimbursement agreement and get them paid. It felt like I was tracking them down just to get our reimbursement approved and get them paid. We will likely use a different company next time we move.
