Dr. Pilkington helped me develop a comprehensive treatment plan to clear up my skin fast. Prior to meeting with her, I was on Proactiv; it took some convincing, but she eventually converted me to prescription products, which, much to my chagrin, worked much better. Then, I was switched from VitaClear (Proactiv's vitamin/mineral supplement) to Skin Accumax, another game changer. Next, I was subjected to cautery on my sebaceous glands, which was initially very painful on my skin (to me it felt like I was getting stung by wasps), but a magical buzz device made it relatively painless. Finally, I did microneedling with Tegan Ryan to attenuate my acne scars. Throughout this entire process, I e-mailed Dr. Pilkington several questions -- she always responded the very same day. Tegan Ryan is the only aesthetician I've ever had, but she is without question the best. Microneedling was a little scary to me at first (just the sound of it made me cringe). Tegan put me at ease with her calm demeanor as well as lovely conversation -- I didn't feel any pain whatsoever even though she made me look like she'd just beaten me in an MMA fight. After three sessions of microneedling, several scars have not only diminished but practically disappeared! Upon completing the above comprehensive skin treatment plan over the course of just a few months, my skin looks much more youthful, I dare say like Dr. Pilkington's and Tegan's. After answering that question (with my concern about potential skin cancer) was I told that the doctors are not accepting new patients. I told the receptionist that it was strange to be asked what I'm interested in first, if the doctor is not accepting new patients. I asked if the answer would be different if I was interested in cosmetic services and she told me "yes". There would be a significant wait, but I could schedule for a cosmetic consult, and I could not have medical concerns addressed at such a visit. This told me everything I need to know about this practice. Skin cancer, which is potentially lethal, is not something they have time for - cosmetics pay much more.

After 7 weeks of excruciating pain, 2 trips to the hospital with complaints of dizziness, cloudy-head, confusion, unable to walk steady and so uncomfortable that she pulled away from her family and friends due to depression, we finally went for another opinion. I either had to leave a message or dealt with someone who was less than helpful... Until, I called Mandel Dermatology. I spoke with Ashley and (unlike the rest) she treated me like a human and really wanted to help me rather than just get my insurance information. Long story short, Ashley helped me make a same-day appointment. Now don't expect that they can always do this, but I lucked out. Immediately upon entering I noticed how friendly all the staff were and the decor is nice and more modern than most clinics I have been in. Filled out some first time patient docs through a link on my phone which was very convenient and then saw Arielle Ades. She and Ashley both listened to my issue and Arielle explained her approach to the treatment and with my consent had it taken care of right then and there. Seriously consider giving these professionals a call next time you need any dermatological help. The level of care was appalling, and I am still deeply upset by what I went through. To start, I was one of the first patients of the day, and the waiting area was empty. Yet, when I was finally called back, the staff member called out the wrong name--twice--while looking directly at me with an annoyed expression. It was an unprofessional and uncomfortable start to the visit. Once I was in the exam room, I was handed the smallest gown imaginable, leaving me barely covered and extremely uncomfortable. When Dr. Zhu entered, she was alone and immediately launched into nonstop personal questions while rolling me around for the initial check-up. I barely had a chance to speak, and the entire exam felt rushed and dismissive. Then, the worst part--while I was turned on my side, exposed, the door suddenly opened without a knock or warning, and the same staff member who had checked me in walked right in. She stood there as if this was completely normal, neither acknowledging the intrusion nor apologizing for not giving me any notice. I was mortified. There was zero regard for my privacy or comfort. The experience continued to decline when it came to my test results. Over a week later, I received an automated email from LabCorp late on a Friday night, stating that my results were in. When Monday came, I waited all day for a call from the doctor--nothing. I finally left a message around 1 PM, and by 4 PM, with still no response, I called again. This time, a random male staff member gave me my biopsy results over the phone. Midway through telling me that one of the biopsy sites was pre-cancerous melanoma, he put me on hold--only to come back and casually inform me that I needed to come back in two months for a follow-up. To this day, I never received a follow-up call from Dr. Zhu herself. No explanation, no reassurance--nothing. And to top it off, I am now stuck paying an outrageous bill for the subpar, careless treatment I received. Her prices are overinflated for the lack of professionalism and quality of care provided. I have never felt so violated, disregarded, and uncomfortable in a medical setting. This experience was not only unprofessional but completely unacceptable. I will never return to this office and will continue sharing my experience to warn others. If this review can prevent even one person from enduring what I did, then it was worth writing.

I'll go elsewhere from now on to an office with a doctor who is interested in actively examining a patient's skin and recommending a course of action/treatment, be it for maintenance or targeted issues. If none of that sounds like a problem to you, do know that when I asked her medical assistant a question about the serum being applied to my face for after-care, the assistant didn't know and had to read the label. Also, as far as front desk help goes, way too many assistants that you get bounced around with, taking payment and shuttling you through. The biggest issue for me, though, is the doctor's lack of care/interest/ability to recommend anything.

The ipad that is needed to complete the check-in process errored out on me, so I had to answer questions after my checkup. And the checkup itself was not as thorough as I've had in the past by other providers, but I'm going to take that as it being very clear to my that I don't have issues due to what she saw in my exam/my medical history. THEY NEVER NOTIFIED ME THEY CANCELLED- I learned that at the counter. At first they just said I wasn't in their system. When i showed them the confirmation text that had their businesses name, their address, the appointment time and date, along with the providers name and credentials, they then said it had been cancelled. Now, I don't know (yes I do!!), shouldn't one expect a profuse apology for canceling your needed healthcare and wasting your time, and not notifying you of the cancellation? And then, I don't know, try to reschedule with you or potentially call to see if other clinics in their network (they are in a wider network) could get you in especially given there was a serious health concern? NOPE! The staff chose to argue with me about whether I had an appointment. So now we know the management either never trained their staff on appropriate responses or the staff were insolent and refused orders...yeah, basically it's on the management. There is much more to the story (continued below) but you get the gist. For entertainment purposes you can keep reading this if you want. The reason given for the (un-notified) cancellation ended up being that they didn't take my insurance. But wait! - the plot thickens. I wanted to do a full body scan for skin cancer and had been to this place before so called and they scheduled me. As you may know it can take weeks or months to get an appointment. I get a call as the appointment was approaching that it was canceled because they didn't take my insurance (yeah, it gets SO much worse for Mia No Cara about You-a). I had an app scan of a mole that indicated it should be looked at as soon as possible (it said moles like that may develop into melanoma). So I had a call from THEM saying that they NOW ACCEPTED my insurance! Because of the urgency I accepted their first available workable date. Consider this businesses level of incompetence: they CONFIRMED they took my insurance, they sent me reminder texts and I confirmed my appointment, they CANCELLED with NO notice because they said they DIDN'T take my insurance, and they offered ZERO assistance to help the customer with a serious health concern. Ask yourself would you ever use them? No? Good, spare yourself heartache.

I came to her with a case of Grover's Disease, also known as "That Thing That's Supposedly Incurable," (see: https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC4248512/); and I expected the usual shoulder shrug and a lifetime supply of steroids and return followup visits. Instead, Dr. Waite looked at my skin, nodded sagely, and basically said, "Hold my moisturizer." Through a mysterious cocktail of steroids, body wash, humidity, and what I suspect might include a few spells from an ancient dermatology grimoire, she nearly cured what multiple people told me couldn't be cured. My skin, once a patchy landscape of pruritic irritation, is now smoother than my best pickup line (which, trust me, is saying something). 10/10 would recommend--unless you're Grover's Disease. In that case, good freakin' luck.
