My husband got a verbal estimate from Phil Sevin on June 9 for $1,880 to "supply and install a Bradford White power vent water heater" (this is a direct quote from their written estimate) to replace a perfectly working water heater that required changing due to a home remodel we are doing. Told him that we wanted to spend as little as possible because we only needed a new water heater for the remodel - we were not in an emergency position. He said he'd send over the estimate via email. It didn't come. Husband called, left a voicemail. He called again the next day and was promised a call back. No return call, still no email with the estimate to approve. Then I called and was promised a call back the following day by Phil. I never received a call, but the estimate miraculously appeared - for $2,035 (higher than the initial estimate). Whatever. My husband approves the estimate and sets the install date - June 13. The guys show up this morning, and immediately start groaning about "this has to be done, that needs to be changed...", etc. And suddenly the price is now $2,900 because Phil "didn't add labor" to the estimate. "But this water heater is top of the line!" We didn't NEED top of the line - just a damned water heater that would serve it's purpose. My husband told them to leave. I called Plumbing Express to get hold of this Phil person, who obviously underquoted the job. "He'll call you back in a few minutes". AN HOUR PASSES. I call again. Now, I'm angry (and rightfully so). "I'll have Phil call you right away". Phil calls me - both guns firing out of the gate. "That was just an estimate". Yeah, an estimate that WE APPROVED for $2,035. "Yeah, lady - it was an ESTIMATE". I talked to Ashley about a job that was done at my home. They quoted me $2000 to do a job. I let them do it and when finished they told me that I needed something else done which cost $8000. The plumber assured me that it would take care of the problem, but I continued to have the same issue. So I reached out to another company that only charged $700 for the job and my issue was rectified. The other company told me that I was ripped off. So I called Flately and spoke to Ashley requesting a proper refund due to them not correctly doing the job, she was very rude over-talking and contradicting. The plumber they sent out, Juan, was very knowledgeable and was able to fix the issue quickly. While it's never cheap to call out a specialist, I thought the quote was reasonable. Here is a more updated review. One picture is of the check valve with the flapper still in place. The plumber said the flapper broke off and was clogged in the sewer line. The other picture is of the bill it was 485.00 . Sorry, I said 450.00 The plumber arrived and thought the flapper need to be replaced. It clearly did not. The flapper is in the check valve in the picture. He spend a lot of time cutting out pipes and a valve that did not need to be replaced. He did not have 2" PVC pipe. His PVC cement was all dried up. He used my PVC my cement. He left mid-project for 2 hours to go to home depot for the 48.00 check valve too--which wasn't needed because mine worked. When the plumber turned on the ejector pit and blew sewer water all over me and my basement, he also fried my outlet and surge protector too. Then he had to use my battery powered sawsall at that point too. The incompetent plumber could not get the cap off the line and turned the whole fitting, which I had to fix latter. He didn't even notice he was turning the fitting and not the cap. I had to stop him. That fitting now leaks and needs to be repaired. So the real waste of time and money was mine. My 485.00 to clear a line that did not get cleared. Wasted my fittings, pipe, pvc cement. Shorted out my electrical outlet and surge protector. damaged a fitting on my existing line. He was only here for 2hours and took a 2 hour break to run to home depot in the middle of it. I'm 12 min away according to google. The office never contacted me. After my 1st post, I contacted the owner directly and asked for a call. That has not happened either. The best way to make money with your business is to take care of customers so the become repeat customers. I cost me to have them come out and my plumbing was in worse shape than when they arrived. I should get an apology and a refund. On a positive note. I got the cap off myself. Rotor Rooter cleared the line. They promised I would not have to pay unless the line was cleared and working. Robert refused to fix the gas dryer leak he left and I l found a year later. I told him I had 3 gas leaks and he only fixed 1. They don't have proper equipment to find leaks. They rely solely on the old method of spray with soapy water. Your house will "blow up" before your leak gets fixed if you rely on these plumbers! I went out of my way & purchased a legit gas leak tool from Home Depot. He told me it's not working & to return it. 1 hour later Nicor shows up and finds the same leaks with their device that I found with my device. Robert had already left because he didn't know what to do. We were left "shut off" for 5 hours until we could get a knowledgeable plumber. Calling Robert a professional licensed plumber is similar to a licensed CDL holder that cannot backup a shipping container into a dock. We never asked for Robert in the first place. We asked for Jason! When using the electric gas leak detector, if a red light come on, it is very very concerning. Cannot be ignored! read more

I woke up to find water leaking front my living room ceiling and none of my usual plumbers were available for service that day. I got Flatley's plumbing from an acquaintance and made the mistake of not checking Yelp before calling them. When the plumber got here, I showed him the leaking water valve on the toilet then asked if he could change the other toilets as well (4 total) and flappers (4 total) since they were also corroded. What seemed like a simple project took him 4.5 hrs. He did ultimately install 2 new water intake valves as well and overall the job was acceptable..that is until the bill came in: $1480. This was a normal weekday during working hours. Never have I had such an egregious price. I've had other plumbers come in on a Sunday and charge me double for a job that was much more laborious and it be only $1600. When I called the office to ask for their hourly rate I was told they don't have one and it's 'based on the job'. So then I spoke with the plumber who said he charged me $255/hr + parts. $255 for changing valves?!? I kept asking him how he came up with the $255 and he just kept repeating all the valves he changed. If I had know I would have been taken advantage of I would have just waited the extra day and used my regular guys. I called the office once more in hopes of speaking to a manager and was told they were closed and I would receive a call the following day. Nobody followed up and at this point, I'm not wasting any more of my time on this issue and will chalk this up to a terrible experience from a company I will never use again or recommend. There are so many reputable, honest, great plumbers out there-do yourself a favor and don't use this one. You can say shame on me for not asking for a quote prior to the start of the job, but based on other reviews it appears that wouldn't have mattered much ultimately anyway. They showed up within 15 minutes ready to work. They came up with a solution and clearly explained everything in detail prior to quoting us a more than reasonable rate to fix it. We were amazed with the knowledge and expertise of Jeremy and Rob and feel confident that our problem has been solved. We had a sewer backup on a Saturday, so we were desperate for a plumber to diagnose and fix the issue. They came out to drain the line only find it a city main blockage. We had a price for the day and to come back Monday to dig and install a valve to prevent the back up again in the future. The work looks like it is done well but hard to tell based on the experience we received. A plumber was disrespectful to us by berating us for what was found in the ejector pit. His co-worker told him the reason for the stuff found but still berated my wife and then gave me the same speech. I get he's obligated to tell us these things shouldn't be flushed but he shouldn't keep going when we told him already. The crews were disrespectful to our house and belongings. They never tarped the house where they were walking or put coverings on their shoes. They tracked sewage water and dirt/mud from outside all through the house. They tarped the stairs but not the floor leading to the basement or in the basement to the plumbing. Saturday was a huge mess, Serv Pro came out on Sunday to clean up, then they came in on Monday and dirtied up the whole house again. No tarps or shoe coverings at all. They even used our personal items as part of their work. They took a bucket of ours to help with cleanup as well as our towels. They didn't finish the job as described. We had to call them back to finish the job and put things back together as they found them. They also had to come back and pick up their tools that were left behind. Shows the lack of attention to detail that they left their own belongings as well as leave us without a finished product. The pricing was questionable at best. We didn't ask the right questions in the heat of the moment but when we received a breakdown of the pricing, none of it made sense. We've had some in the know look at the bill and were shocked at the cost. I'd have a hard time trusting this company with how they performed their work. I've never had a contractor leave such a mess and act in such a manner. They got their money from us, and they never will again. They shouldn't get your either. read more

Friday window was 730-11- showed up around 2. Didnt fix the problem but charged for it. Says will be back Monday at 8. Shows at 930. Here from 9:30-11:15 charges over $1500 just for Monday including the laundry sink trap that took 10 minutes and cut me a "deal" from $385 to $285. Spoke to manager asking to explain how I got a deal cutting me from $385 to $285 for the laundry sink trap. Cost of part was about $20. Labor took 10 minutes. Was already there for another job making $1570. Manager could not answer the question directly as he knew it was a rip off. Just kept redirecting the conversation, says they are competitively priced. Went round and round and he could not answer a simple question. Ended up waiving Friday's bill as they came and didnt fix anything. Seems the laundry trap was a way to upcharge me. They got $1570 for under 2 hours of labor and about $20 in parts. I understand the hydrojetting is not cheap. I didnt know the laundry sink was a 10 minute job. The inlaws are coming into town and the wife wanted it done so we agreed to the $285. Flatelys after making $1200 in less than 2 hours could have charged a nominal fee for the trap instead decided to grab me by the ankles and shake out all my money. Do not use this company! They are dishonest and looking to scam you out of money. We had a blockage in our kitchen sink. Almost right away, the plumber started telling us we are most likely going to need to hydro jet the pipes which is around $1200. He worked on the sink for a bit but never brought out a machine to rod it. He drained a few sections of the pipe which allowed it to work briefly, long enough for him to get paid while telling me the problem will return and maybe as soon as that night. Sure enough, Within five minutes of him leaving, I went to use the sink and it wasn't draining! I basically paid him for nothing as I never even got to use the sink once. We called them and they sent someone out the next day who did nothing but look at the pipe and say yep, the only thing left is to hydro jet and pay the $1200 plus (on top of what we just paid!). I decided I wasn't giving them another penny and thank god. I got out another company who did the job right. He used a true machine that did the rodding and fixed the problem easily. His cost was $50 less than the what I paid for the non-work I received from Flatley. Do not get taken by this company as I did. Called out a plumber to replace the cartridges in both of my showers he came out on a Saturday and replaced them. He left my tub a mess with pieces of the old parts, boxes the new items came in and grease all over my tub. We didn't notice till later that night he used a ton of caulked and had it all over the handle and he also broke my downstairs shower sprayer, it leaks out the sides now and floods my bathroom. Never again will I hire this company as they were way more $ then others that we found out after. Now they are denying they touched the shower head, sorry but not sure who is that stupid that if your a plumber and you test my shower and it's flooding the bathroom you wouldn't try to get me to pay more to fix that too? It's unfortunate they say it's false. What I stated in my review was fair and accurate - just a bad experience. It happens, you can't win them all - just be warned, being nice and speaking to managers just got me a "That's false" and complete denial from the company, even though I only have written my experience accurately and fairly. Oh and when I asked what the warranty was on the install work he got caggy and wouldn't answer the question. I don't know how he was able to quote prices so quickly without even checking parts and material. I feel I was taken advantage off because I needed the repair done ASAP. To the Owners response you are full of crap. The second Tech only delivered the water heater and then left he was here maybe twenty minutes. We decided to have them quote on changing out the shark bite hose with a copper hose, we also needed a water heater expansion chamber. We were quoted $485 for both. He said he would have to return the next day to do it as he needed to get the parts. The next day a different plumber came out and said the cost would be $795 not $495 as previously quoted. My kitchen drain has been clogged for a few days and Draino and some of the other drainage brands just wasn't cutting it. Called Flatley's Plumbing Express and they sent a plumber almost immediately, which I was shocked! They even sent a text message along with the plumber's name. Diego was VERY PROFESSIONAL and polite explaining to me as he was unclogging the drain. At one point, he attempted 3 times to get the drain to move. Diego was diligent and persistent at getting the water to move through the drain. Mission accomplished!! I've used Plumbing Express (PE) for years but will not use them again. In early 2015, I needed replacement of a sewerage ejector pump that they installed five years earlier. These pumps should last between six to ten years. One week after installation of the new pump, the PVC piping that PE used came apart, soaking my crawl space. PE was notified and a different plumber came out and indicated that the first plumber "didn't know what he was doing". This repair lasted for about nine months and failed again. I brought in a new plumbing service. The plumber indicated that the pump was air locked and said that PE failed to drill a vent hole in the discharge pipe, which was clearly indicated in the pump installation instructions, which I confirmed. The pump is working properly now. It cost me $100 to find out that PE does very unreliable work, even on a very basic installation. Recommendation: DON'T USE PLUMBING EXPRESS! read more

I will not use Flatley Plumbing again. I had originally been impressed with the friendly serviceman (plumber) and patience to replace a faucet. I was able to run to hardware store to buy and plumber replaced. The plumber made good with his time and worked on a backed up sink problem too while I ran to hardware store for the new faucet. The faucet was under a lifetime warranty. The new faucet came loose within 6 months and the secretary argued with me that it wasn't covered under warranty and therefore was my issue. My previous handyman put in same faucet that lasted for 5 years. Flatly criticized his work for not being a licensed plumber which caused a leak. Flatly Plumbing is criticized by ME!! The lady that answered the phone was terribly rude and argumentative blaming me for their shotty work. read more

The first two guys Brandon and Diego that came out seemed very nice and I was under the impression the work would be completed properly. A couple of thousand dollars later I was left with a bunch of pipes that were falling apart. I called and they sent out someone who confirmed everything needed to be redone and the job was done poorly, I could even hear him on the phone with Brandon asking him what he did and that everything was falling apart. The guy said he would come back the following day that he needed to get parts(which he never did come back) I then called and asked to speak with the owner in which the secretary seemed annoyed by and I never received a phone call back from the owner. On the third day and three guys later and the only reason I rated it two stars instead of zero is the problem was finally taken care of by Dave who did a good job. We had Flatley's come out last spring and do some major work on our sewer pipe in the front yard. Last week, temps dropped to single digits and we had a small problem thatI thought at the time was an emergency. I called them and Tina answered, was friendly and assured me someone would be coming out within the hour. In the meantime, we figured out between us that this was not an emergency and could wait a month or two. I called back and let them know. We are planning to get an estimate for our needed repair in the next month or so, and are very thankful it turned out not to be an immediate emergency. I just wanted to update my review because we were pleased with the service last year and I greatly appreciated the answering of the call and the super fast dispatch of a plumber to our house. We didn't end up getting the repair done, but still, it needs to be said how professional and quick Tina was answering my calls and the company in having someone immediately available. I just really appreciated the sense of urgency being respected and how the call was handled. I will definitely be calling this company for our plumbing needs and soon for a small estimate. When I was looking for a plumber, I searched on google and Plumbing Express was the first company that popped up. So I called them for an estimate. Juan came out and quickly figured out the problem and quoted me for the repairs. They came back out 3 days later and finished the job. They arrived exactly when they said they would. And the job took exactly how much time they said it would take. After making my appointment, I looked them up on Yelp and found a lot of bad reviews. But it was too late and I already gave a deposit and made the appointment. I was a little nervous, but hoped for the best. I am glad I stuck with them. Juan did an excellent job. He's nice, professional and respectful. They laid out tarps and plastic and didn't make any messes. They respected my home. He also found another problem with one of my other showers. However, he told my husband the problem and gave him tips on how we can resolve it ourselves (shower leaking - needs to be recaulked). Overall we are happy with the service. Had a winterization set up for an unoccupied house that I own. Flatley's was charging $500-600 for this service which was a great deal more than other companies. THey claimed they are very thorough unlike other companies that charge less. They wanted me to sign a waiver of liability to which I added "unless due to negligence of Plumbing Express, Inc.". They sent a note that they weren't going to come because of this. If they are trying to waive liability for their OWN negligence, it says alot about this company. BEWARE! read more

Only used these guys once and will not use again. They charged me 3 times as much, as I found out later, that other companies would have charged for a simple roto-rooting job. I was in a bind and had water pooling at the base of the house so I let them do it. Once PE determined the pipe needed to be dug up and fixed they quoted me a price 3 times as much as other reputable companies charge. I then came to my senses and got 2 other quotes and sure enough the company I finally hired charged 1/3 the amount PE quoted. PE probably charged me the neighborhood price as well. I had a very unpleasant experience with this company and can not recommend them. I called them about a clogged plumbing line. A plumber came out and looked around and then said that the sewer line was probably sheared off outside of my house and it would cost over $2,000 to repair. I told him I didn't think that was consistent with what I was seeing and I wanted to speak to the owner about it first. He left in a huff and I called the owner. He said they see that all the time and that is what it costs, but he would send another plumber to run a camera through the line and make sure that the line was indeed sheared off. A second plumber came out a day later, opened up the line and quickly determined that it wasn't sheared off. He spent a couple of hours trying to figure out what was wrong and he ended up rodding my kitchen sink line and they charged me more than $500.00, on top of the $135.00 that I paid the first plumber, for that. I thought that was way too much and more than I was told I would be charged but I paid it anyway. The drains worked now, though I continued to have some problems and they didn't work as well as before the first problem. Finally I called the company to see if they would come out and take a look again. I was unable to get the owner to speak to me directly about the problem and instead he had the plumber call me. I explained that I had paid a lot for having one line rodded and asked if they might come out and check it out again. I did not want to pay them any more money as I felt I had overpaid the first time. He was completely unwilling to do anything for me and I was unable to speak to the owner about any of this. I followed up with a letter to the owner to which I received no response whatsoever. Incidently, I ended up rodding the kitchen sink line myself with a drain snake from Menard's attached to a drill and everything has worked great since then. In conclusion, I got a misdiagnosis, overcharged for what was likely an incomplete repair, and then poor customer service and a bad attitude. read more

I initially called Flatley's last year to get our sewer routed out. At that time, we were told that we had bigger problems, and that although they could get us back in business temporarily, we would need bigger work down the road. Sure enough, we needed a complete replacement for a large section of our sewer system. It also happened to be the middle of winter. The hard-working, problem-solving crew of Dave, Danny, and Juan worked through extreme cold without complaint. Throughout this job, another crew, including a plumber who is no longer with them, unfortunately did some parts of the job that were less than satisfactory. I have learned that the person responsible for the less than satisfactory work is no longer with the company. Nonetheless, Flatley's stood by their warranty, and the small problem that persisted was just finished up beautifully this morning by Dave and Danny once again. Last month our sump pump backed up in the middle of the night. I called a restoration company first to have them suck up all the water and deliver fans/dehumidifiers. They suggested to have a plumber come out first before they delivered all the equipment just in case our sump pump backed up again so we weren't paying for cleanup twice. The plumber we use was out of town so the restoration company recommended Flatley's to come out and see what needed to be done. The minute the tech walked in he reeked of smoke and had a bad attitude. I showed him where our sump pump was. It wasn't what he said but how he said things. "You don't have a light in here?" I replied no.... and "this is your only pit?" I replied "yes, this is the only pit I have besides our pit for the ejector pump" So then he proceeded to go outside in the rain and said the piping from our home to outside in the yard is pooling and backing up the piping needs to be relocated. He came back inside and looked at everything again. He said our pit was like a 5 gallon bucket and it's not big enough. He said it would need to be redrilled and the piping needs to be replaced. He kept repeating what he was saying a few times almost like he thought that we didn't grasp the concept and told us it would be $3,200! He had to go back out to his car to write out the invoice for our night call. The tech didn't even know how to spell simple words and letters were written backwards. Our experience was absolutely unprofessional and I would never let them set foot in my house ever again. Update 3/27/18 The owner has replied to my review and said he is replying again to another review. This other Michelle C lady is not me, it is someone else. I never had work done by this company. They just came in to assess what needed to be completed and they weren't professional. read more
