The museum itself is more extensive than one would realize and it's comprised of 2 buildings and the Stanzel family home. There is also a wonderful informational video that you're able to watch for background. We saw a number of model planes, marketing materials from back in the day and got to try a pretty neat flight simulator. If you're passing through, I'd highly recommend dropping by this lovely spot!

There are two wings, but it definitely feels smaller once you're inside than it looks from the outside. The other wing on the opposite side of the building houses artifacts documenting local life of the families in the community including jewelry, clothing, dolls, household equipment, etc. But of course - it's the cannon that everyone is there for. I'll start with the good: the cannon itself is super cool to see in person. It's a bit smaller than the dramatic image most of us likely have in our heads, but it's still incredibly interesting knowing it's the real deal. The story of how they authenticated it was actually one of the most interesting parts things I learned in the museum (which I'd been wondering that exact thing as I learned about its history before I got to that exhibit). That said - I did walk away a tad disappointed. Aside from the main display with the cannon and a few small exhibits and video, the museum quickly shifted into a general "war museum." There are guns, uniforms, and donated artifacts from local families. For a museum built around one of the most iconic symbols of Texas independence, I just expected little more storytelling, more context, and more artifacts from that era. if you're a history lover, it's worth a stop just to see the cannon. Just don't expect a full deep dive into the revolution. It's def more of a general walk through of local history but with one heck of a legendary artifact as its centerpiece.

Then the nitty-gritty: saddles, spurs, horse whips, riding crops, chaps, cowboy hats, boots, etc. all the necessary tools for the cowboy. The staff is very well-versed. They can explain what each piece is used for and who were the best artisans. The souvenir shop is cute and chock full of Texan stuff. Cutest was a Texas-shaped shot glass. The museum will be undergoing expansion soon. Wow. Give it a visit when in Cuero.

We parked right in front and there were several good angles to take photos of the old jail. Off to the side are the bathrooms. The main door is on the side up the ramp. Inside, there's a museum to the Heroes of Texas and the docent was very knowledgeable. There were displays dedicated to the various wars, the old prison wardens, and other related things like uniforms. There is even one cell left you can look at. It doesn't take very long but it's worth a look.

I knew it was small and not some big museum like some of the others, so maybe my expectations weren't as high as some of the other reviewers prior to going. We got there right as they opened, and we had the place to ourselves for the first hour or so that we were here. My 6 year old loved the play areas, which may not have been as fun if it wasn't just her in the facility. They had a fun paint station and coloring station as well that she had a good time with. The price isn't high, so for what you pay I felt it was definitely worth it and somewhere to burn off some of her energy that didn't involve being outside in the Texas heat and humidity. Oct 28 is Emma's Birthday... so Magnolia Hotel decided to open the doors to celebrate! Free tours…read morefrom 10am-2pm! I just happened to see something come through my newsfeed over Fb, I bookmarked it, found my schedule open, so headed east to check it out. Emma likes to play in her room... and who doesn't like to play with little spirits?! I didn't know the history of the Magnolia Hotel so was totally clueless walking in the door... Magnolia Hotel has been on Ghost Adventures on Travel Channel. Also, Magnolia Hotel is ~not~ a hotel, it is now a personal residence. To my delight, I was able to hear stories of the old hotel, tales of it's past residents many of which have never left, and how Magnolia Hotel was discovered by the owners. Jim & Erin saved the Magnolia from being demolished... they single handedly have saved a part of Seguin history!... and some haunted history at that! I spent about two hours just hanging out, looking around, and people watching... talked to some interesting people, listening to questions and answers... all very interesting. Did I have an experience? I had something creepy go up the back of my left neck and skull as I was talking to a ghost hunter in the original dining area where the owner was sitting. I also felt some weird things around the house... but something I brushed off at first until I started listening to others talk about it... when you first come up the stairs, it feels really heavy. I originally brushed it off as I just walked up the stairs... but no, go back and you feel it... and everyone was feeling it!!! Emma was playing in her room. One of the guides said just a few minutes earlier, a little girl got scratched. Then someone told her that they saw the door knob in the pink bathroom turn back and forth. The owner, Erin, said this house is more active during the day than at night. Wow! The owners Jim & Erin host a ghost tour in their home on occasion, which books up months in advance. The tour last about 2 hours with in-depth stories which might also include a spiritual reading from the Erin at the end (but only if deceased wish to come forward). Erin has written Haunted New Braunfels, Haunted Seguin, and soon to be released Haunted Magnolia House. All proceeds go towards restoring the Magnolia Hotel. I can not wait to go on their ghost tour!

The forensic reconstruction of those who perished along with their biographies was thought-provoking. The gift shop had many amazing books and the staff was both professional knowledgeable and friendly. Being able to visit a museum like this for absolutely free or just give a donation was an amazing delight.

I wasn't sure what to expect upon coming here since I'm a novice sewer and not a quilter, but I was…read morehappy to see an entire building dedicated to intricate quilts, a library full of resources, and even a wing dedicated to crazy quilts. The building is a fully restored one with nice wood floors and an impressive main wing. There are three galleries to look at with the crazy quilt one being my favorite. The docents are very nice and attentive and the atmosphere is very chill and quiet. All in all, we were there for maybe 30 minutes because you are allowed to take photos, just no flash. There's a small gift shop and parking was pretty easy too. You're even next to a quilting shop.
