How fabulous it is to have this incredible venue half way between Austin and Houston. Either of those cities would love to Festival Hall within their city limits. But here it is, in rural Round Top. That said, Round Top is a great little city with nice dining options, great antique shops and more. We're really glad we discovered this gem!! They usually feature classical music, but today they invited the Houston Jazz Orchestra, a full 17- piece jazz band, and the first such big band to play at Festival Hall in their 50 year history. They gave a great performance. They were all so very talented and passionate about music. And a film crew was there recording the whole concert, which was interesting to watch. It was open seating. $30 per ticket (reasonable), with no food or drinks allowed or offered in the venue, even at intermission. But that made the intermission shorter. And I wouldn't allow food or drinks in there, either. The entire venue is a work of art. Even the floors are solid wood laid out in a herringbone pattern. They really went all out! We'll monitor their events and we'll be back. We may even bring a few friends with us. What a great place!

It includes a 400-seat auditorium, the Patti Strickel Harrison Theatre, where we saw the inaugural performance of the musical, Anything Goes, this weekend. Clearly outstanding, Broadway-worthy productions such as this deserve this professional venue. Not only is it equipped with state-of-the-art technology, it's architecturally beautiful and comfortable for patrons. Our seats were on the floor level, but the wrap-around balcony is positioned so there isn't a bad seat in the house. It's an intimate setting, which is nice for connecting with the live shows, but it also means the shows sell out. Buy your tickets in advance online rather than driving out and chancing getting one at the door. Tickets for this performance ranged $15-$18, for a total of $20 with the purchase fees. Such a deal that I'll have no problem making the drive from Austin often with family and friends. Texas State Students get in for $8. Right across the street is the Edward Gary Street Garage, built in tandem with the PAC to allow for easy parking. We paid $5 flat rate. The PAC also houses a 300-seat recital hall, rehearsal and classroom space, so there's a lot more going on in that building than the shows. No wonder their programs are becoming nationally known.

A feast for your eyes and ears, directed by Jack O'Brien, who directed Hairspray. I'm still thinking about the stage design, and how it blended with the choreography. Joe did they balance on the wooden slats?! Lulu (Miki Abraham) stole the show. "Independently Owned" was my favorite song, and she was great in every way. Broadway In Austin made ticket pickup easy. Also they've removed the clear bag policy. Bass Concert Hall now offers additional restrooms past the foyer on four floors in a separate building; there were two people in front of me in line and zero behind me. The pedestrian traffic was well organized by the ushers and helpful volunteers. Her your corns up Austin, and take my kernels of wisdom to motivate you to see the Broadway show of the year.

Clue was comedic from beginning to end - like actually funny. The writing was witty and smart, the entire cast completely talented from head to toe. I love this venue because its clean, the aisles are spacious, the seats aren't as compact, and the staff members are so friendly and welcoming to the guests. 11/10, I would recommend seeing Clue to all my friends and to those I don't even know.

My love for this musical brought me to Bastrop (and I'm glad it did!) I loved how they performed Fiddler on the Roof! It was phenomenal!!! It matched exactly from the 1971 movie. I have this movie on VHS and watch it every month because I love it so much!! Every scene was as if I was watching the movie. Lisa Holcomb is an amazing director and trained the performers well. If you're a history buff or admire antiques, you'll love the Bastrop Opera House built in 1889. The parking can be limited in Downtown and in historic district, so I took an Uber from the Airbnb I stayed at. During intermission, I went to check out the ladies restroom and it was severely cramped. It reminded me of an old church restroom: three stalls with doors so close to the toilet. Whether you sit or squat, your knees are at the door. A primary sink and a line out the door. So, there's some discomfort there! I want to mention that the seating inside the opera house is comfortable, but the chairs are close together. I reserved seat E1 which is the last seat of the row, so each time someone from the middle needed to leave. I had to get up to let them out. That was a bit much. Seats sell out quickly, but if you travel solo you can find something last minute. Anyways, I'll be attending the upcoming show of Rent (another one of my favorite musical) here. I wanted to see Dial M for Murder by Alfred Hitchcock, but I'll have to catch it another time.

I found out that they moved their location recently into a space that actually is more theater-like inside. I've seen a production from TexArt before a few years back in their old location in a strip mall and the although that show was good, the seats in the old location was kinda uncomfortable. The current theater felt newer and also sold snacks to eat like chips, popcorn, soda, water, and various candies and treats. They didn't sell alcohol (probably bc they didn't have a liquor license) but had beer and wine that they can pour you a glass with a donation to the theater. Overall the experience was really good. The production set, choreography, acting, and flow of the whole show was well put together. I was afraid that I would fall asleep because we went to see the show right after dinner but it was very good and exciting throughout. The only thing that I didn't like about this new location is that it had limited parking so I would recommend to get there earlier. We showed up about 10 min before the show started and got one of the last parking spaces. The previous location was in a strip mall so there was plenty of parking!
