There are two wings, but it definitely feels smaller once you're inside than it looks from the outside. The other wing on the opposite side of the building houses artifacts documenting local life of the families in the community including jewelry, clothing, dolls, household equipment, etc. But of course - it's the cannon that everyone is there for. I'll start with the good: the cannon itself is super cool to see in person. It's a bit smaller than the dramatic image most of us likely have in our heads, but it's still incredibly interesting knowing it's the real deal. The story of how they authenticated it was actually one of the most interesting parts things I learned in the museum (which I'd been wondering that exact thing as I learned about its history before I got to that exhibit). That said - I did walk away a tad disappointed. Aside from the main display with the cannon and a few small exhibits and video, the museum quickly shifted into a general "war museum." There are guns, uniforms, and donated artifacts from local families. For a museum built around one of the most iconic symbols of Texas independence, I just expected little more storytelling, more context, and more artifacts from that era. if you're a history lover, it's worth a stop just to see the cannon. Just don't expect a full deep dive into the revolution. It's def more of a general walk through of local history but with one heck of a legendary artifact as its centerpiece.

Not every exhibit dealt with Texas Independence. There is an amphitheater in the rear of the building, and a great reflection pool at the front of the museum. The forensic reconstruction of those who perished along with their biographies was thought-provoking. The gift shop had many amazing books and the staff was both professional knowledgeable and friendly. Being able to visit a museum like this for absolutely free or just give a donation was an amazing delight.

Then the nitty-gritty: saddles, spurs, horse whips, riding crops, chaps, cowboy hats, boots, etc. all the necessary tools for the cowboy. The staff is very well-versed. They can explain what each piece is used for and who were the best artisans. The souvenir shop is cute and chock full of Texan stuff. Cutest was a Texas-shaped shot glass. The museum will be undergoing expansion soon. Wow. Give it a visit when in Cuero.

Oct 28 is Emma's Birthday... so Magnolia Hotel decided to open the doors to celebrate! Free tours…read morefrom 10am-2pm! I just happened to see something come through my newsfeed over Fb, I bookmarked it, found my schedule open, so headed east to check it out. Emma likes to play in her room... and who doesn't like to play with little spirits?! I didn't know the history of the Magnolia Hotel so was totally clueless walking in the door... Magnolia Hotel has been on Ghost Adventures on Travel Channel. Also, Magnolia Hotel is ~not~ a hotel, it is now a personal residence. To my delight, I was able to hear stories of the old hotel, tales of it's past residents many of which have never left, and how Magnolia Hotel was discovered by the owners. Jim & Erin saved the Magnolia from being demolished... they single handedly have saved a part of Seguin history!... and some haunted history at that! I spent about two hours just hanging out, looking around, and people watching... talked to some interesting people, listening to questions and answers... all very interesting. Did I have an experience? I had something creepy go up the back of my left neck and skull as I was talking to a ghost hunter in the original dining area where the owner was sitting. I also felt some weird things around the house... but something I brushed off at first until I started listening to others talk about it... when you first come up the stairs, it feels really heavy. I originally brushed it off as I just walked up the stairs... but no, go back and you feel it... and everyone was feeling it!!! Emma was playing in her room. One of the guides said just a few minutes earlier, a little girl got scratched. Then someone told her that they saw the door knob in the pink bathroom turn back and forth. The owner, Erin, said this house is more active during the day than at night. Wow! The owners Jim & Erin host a ghost tour in their home on occasion, which books up months in advance. The tour last about 2 hours with in-depth stories which might also include a spiritual reading from the Erin at the end (but only if deceased wish to come forward). Erin has written Haunted New Braunfels, Haunted Seguin, and soon to be released Haunted Magnolia House. All proceeds go towards restoring the Magnolia Hotel. I can not wait to go on their ghost tour!

I get Monday but Saturday is a bad day to not be open for a museum. It a day most can go. So while it has a nice outside and seems unique it's hard to see on a quick weekend trip for out of towners. Seems a bad decision. Something we encountered a lot on this trip. Signs that show open when business is closed and vice versa.

An amazing museum! This FREE museum looks like a morgue. It's not. It was left to the city by some…read morephilanthropist, and is a great asset for Victoria. This museum doesn't seem to have a permanent collection. Instead, it houses a continuous array of touring exhibitions. You can eat and drink in the gallery! When I came, two women had gotten lunch to go from Dairy Queen down the street, and were enjoying their Belt Busters in front of a magnificent work of art in the cool breeze of the air conditioning. For my visit, they had an exhibition of linoleum etchings. It was really cool, because they had a couple of places where you could sketch your own linoleum tile to try it out. They have a gift shop here, with high priced works of art, but you're not going to find this stuff anywhere else. It seems that they have a little bar in the back for parties and events. Parking is only available on the street, but when I went, there wasn't a big crowd, so it was easy. The gallery attendant was extremely nice and welcoming, and went on to explain the history of the museum and a bit about the artist. I was really impressed, and can't wait to return for the next exhibition!

Luckily the weather was in the 70s which was really nice for a January day. We drove up and parked easily. We then went to pay the rate for 4 adults, got our clubs, chose our golf balls, and we were off. There were a few people there with families on the course but we basically had the course to ourselves. It was a course with a practice spot and then 18 holes to play. It was very informative and fun. There were stands at each hole with a set of photos and historical information. Plus the actual course had slight slopes, and a few fun obstacles. After golfing we went inside the small museum. There were several artifacts and some historical information to look at and read about. On a side note they have two bathrooms with soap and running water which is a positive. Overall it was a fun afternoon on a nice day. The mini golf course is fun and informative. The museum is small and interesting. If you like history and mini golf this would be a good place to visit and play on a nice day.
