Then the nitty-gritty: saddles, spurs, horse whips, riding crops, chaps, cowboy hats, boots, etc. all the necessary tools for the cowboy. The staff is very well-versed. They can explain what each piece is used for and who were the best artisans. The souvenir shop is cute and chock full of Texan stuff. Cutest was a Texas-shaped shot glass. The museum will be undergoing expansion soon. Wow. Give it a visit when in Cuero.

The Hemi Hideout is one man's giant man cave! The owner had a successful business and a love for…read morethe classic muscle cars so he began collecting and when he retired he built this giant building to showcase his cars. Car collecting also led to collecting neon signs, old gas pumps and just about anything nostalgic relating to antique cars. There is even a dinner that looks like something from American Graffiti! They are located in Brookshire, Texas just north of I-10. You have to make a reservation to go and when we went there is a $10 entry fee but the owner donates all the entry fees collected to local charities in the area. Plan on spending a few hours there, take your time and walk around, lots to look at and signs explaining the history of most of the items.

Not every exhibit dealt with Texas Independence. There is an amphitheater in the rear of the building, and a great reflection pool at the front of the museum. She is of course from Schulenburg and was very knowledgeable about local history which was offered as we drove from church to church. We saw four churches with lunch at the Oakridge Restaurant in between. We actually have a painted church in San Antonio - Immaculate Heart of Mary. It's located on Urban Loop downtown. Anyway, these churches are beautiful. From the outside, you would not know what you are about to see on the inside. Beautiful colors, statuary, stained glass, all gorgeous. Worth the trip, about 120 miles from San Antonio out IH10 East.

The building is a fully restored one with nice wood floors and an impressive main wing. There are three galleries to look at with the crazy quilt one being my favorite. The docents are very nice and attentive and the atmosphere is very chill and quiet. All in all, we were there for maybe 30 minutes because you are allowed to take photos, just no flash. There's a small gift shop and parking was pretty easy too. You're even next to a quilting shop.

All their set ups are so cute and there are plenty of learning stations for kids too. It's a great variety of stations for all kinds of interests. They give you a token to redeem for a free snack at the end of your visit which my kiddo loves every time we come here. The staff is always very friendly too. The only thing I don't love is that you have to make a reservation for the play session you want and it's not that long. I can understand that it's probably for the purpose of cleaning in between sessions and regulating the amount of people coming in but I think for the price it should be longer play times. I also wish there was a membership option. But other than that we still love it here.

The forensic reconstruction of those who perished along with their biographies was thought-provoking. The gift shop had many amazing books and the staff was both professional knowledgeable and friendly. Being able to visit a museum like this for absolutely free or just give a donation was an amazing delight.
