She was attentive, knowledgeable, and totally customer service oriented. The Brunch Baddie came out to "wet our whistle" and we were not disappointed...although, I requested a shot of Grey Goose to go with it... Then the food came and I was all in! The mac and cheese successfully showcased all 5 cheeses without being overwhelming, my Sweet Heat Plate was definitely on point juxtaposing the savouriness with the honey basted chicken and accompanied by perfect greens and yams done right. This place was not worth the money. As soon as we walked in, the air was filled with smoke, making the dining experience very uncomfortable. The smoke was so overwhelming that I rushed through my meal just to leave. Unfortunately, the food didn't make up for it. My experience at Flavor Hills was a mixed bag. When we arrived, there was nobody at the front to greet or welcome us. We stood there for over 15 minutes waiting to be seated. While waiting, I noticed several servers standing around doing very little, yet none of them took the initiative to come over and simply let us know the hostess would be right back. That lack of attention made for a poor first impression. The ambiance is decent but nothing particularly memorable. There's a small bar area, but overall the atmosphere is fairly basic. As for the food, it was both a hit and a miss. I ordered the Southern Comfort Plate, and unfortunately the fried chicken was extremely salty. On a positive note, the manager stopped by our table, listened to my concern, and immediately offered to replace it, which I appreciated. The rosemary pork sausage gravy was absolutely delicious, and the sweet potato cornbread was one of the highlights of the meal. The service could use improvement. Our server disappeared for long stretches of time, and our drinks often sat empty without refills. Dessert also took quite a while to arrive, which was surprising considering it appeared to be a pre-made item that likely only required plating. Overall, I wouldn't mind coming back to try a different dish because there were some bright spots in the meal. However, I'm not in any rush to return. The main issue with this is you are now at the mercy of the actual bartender to also be your waiter/waitress. There was only one person filling this role for the entire bar and all the tables there within. The drinks and food did come out quickly. The portions are good. Even the drink was large. But the issue is the taste. The catfish was good, but the grits were not of proper taste and consistency. The collards were exceptionally spicy. The drink was just ok and I wasn't able to finish it. This was my favorite place to dine until today. The WORST EXPERIENCE EVER! They didn't have a lot of the alcohol to make certain drinks. The service was very slow. The killer part that made me walk out was the fact that my appetizer came out with my side of collards greens and the guy waiter told me that I could not have a fork because dishes were being washed! First time visit and it did not disappoint! The food and service were AMAZING!!! Our Waiter Darius was the best. He even told us the best way to re-heat our food. Definitely will be back next time we are in town. I already told my family and friends that live in the Raleigh area to support.... Now here is my disclaimer as a real foodie. I hate having to leave reviews like this for black owned establishments. I came here on a Sunday at noon for solo brunch and it was chaotic to say the least. I had a reservation, but waited in a line for about 10 minutes before checking in to be seated. They have the hosts at the front doing take out orders and seating people for dine in which is doing entirely too much. When I was seated my server (I think her name is Aleah) came over a few minutes after and was super pleasant. She let me know they were understaffed and had some issues with the fire alarm going off in the entire building. I ordered a mocktail, triple stack pancakes and a side of eggs and the cornbread, total came to about $40. 45 minutes for that to arrive. Food was okay, cornbread was burnt, eggs flavorless, pancakes were huge (I did take those to go because there was no way I was gonna finish). I am also plant based, so there aren't many options for us to eat outside of what I ordered for brunch. I really wanted to enjoy this place but that was very difficult to do. I arrived before my friends. Thus, I sat at the bar. I was greeted and served immediately. I expected the rest of the evening would be similar. I. Was. Wrong. The evening felt like an SNL skit...especially when the waitress turned to cough and she also let a poot slip. The place was not busy and it took forever for our party of 11 to be seated. They explained they had to seat us by no more than four at a time. Please note, there was an entire section that could accommodate the entire party; they simply demonstrated that they lack problem-solving skills. They brought out drinks and when we requested straws, we were informed that they ran out. Running out of straws is beyond befuddling. However, several minutes later, my friend's husband was able to provide us with straws. The waitress responded: He's doing my job. She smiled; I did not. I asked for napkins and she retorted: I was gonna bring them out. My request was not a dig at her. My drink spilled on my hand... A young man brought us cutlery and said he did not have enough for the entire table. He said he'd be right back and the lie detector test determined that was a lie. He came back over and said: That's what I forgot. I'll bring you some silverware. That, too, was a lie. When our food finally came out and my friend requested silverware from our waitress, she asked: You don't have any? As if my friend needs to achieve a verbal word count daily and asked for the hell of it. When I finished my margarita, the waitress brought me water in a plastic cup. I wanted to ask for a glass, but was afraid she'd tell me they ran out. True story, she gave me water in a kiddie cup. The bill deserves honorable mention as well. They told us they could not seat us as one large party, but tried to charge the gratuity for a large party. My friend's husband is not the one, two, or the three. That situation took almost as long as it did for our food to come out to resolve. Sis had the right one and the wrong one at the same time. We believe in supporting black businesses. However, the ancestors are displeased with all the shenanigans. Since when does one have to have to request a receipt? She literally walked up and said my balance. I would have asked for the receipt, but I don't have a sleeping bag and I am certain it wouldn't have been given to me before the next morning. We have questions...why was a staff member crying? Did the bartender quit when he said: I'm done. I'm outta here. Why did staff keep going in and out of the exit door? This is where my friend brings all of her visitors. That won't happen again. This was my second visit and my date's first visit. We were told it would be 20 minutes to receive food when we order as the food is cooked to order. The music was the perfect volume, to me, when we arrived. However, after about 5 minutes, it got loud. I felt that I had to talk loudly in order to communicate with my friend. My friend said the volume was typically for brunches, especially when they lived in DC. I will note, that the music was a whole vibe; great selection and songs. The volume fluctuated from being perfect and loud throughout. My friend and I got a mimosa flight to share with pineapple, mango, guava, and passion fruit juices. This was ordered at 11:47am. We received it at 11:51am. We were ready to order them but the flight was just dropped off and she left. Additionally, I think they should label the flights so we know which flavors are what without having to guess. Waitress finally returned at 12:04pm where l placed our order. I got the chicken and waffle. I also got a side of breakfast potatoes. My friend got the "from the south" but got yams vs the collard greens. Apparently, there is an issue with the consistency of how the greens are cooked. The table beside us said it was too salty and they didn't eat theirs at all. Mikayla was so nice to us and provided quick and amazing service. My sister and I shared the crab fries, sweet heat plate, side of grits, and a slice of their sweet potato corn bread. Two sandwiches, an iced tea, and a water $47 before tip was a little pricey, but that might be a function of the location as they're on Fayetteville Street. The service was awkward at best; the waitress seemed like she didn't want to be there. Handed us the menu and almost immediately asked if we were ready to order. We asked for a bit of time to review the menu as it was our first time visiting. We ordered our drinks, and the tea came with very little ice, so I asked for a glass of ice, which never came. In a reasonable amount of time, the entrees were delivered by a runner. I had finished the tea and needed another glass but our waitperson was invisible, so I walked up to the bar and asked the bartender for a glass of tea. He was very accommodating and quickly got me another glass of tea. No follow-up by the waitress to ask how our entrees were, we did not see our waitress until she asked if we "wanted anything else". If our waitress had multiple tables in play, I could totally understand slower service, but best I could tell, she had two total tables, including us. It's unfortunate, good food, nice space, but service like this will kill a restaurant. Give it a try; hopefully, you receive better service than we did. read more

My husband and I visited Flavor Hills last night for dinner and were genuinely impressed by everything. From the moment we walked in, the experience was exceptional. The hostess was so warm and personable. She asked if it was our first visit and seemed genuinely excited for us, even sharing some of her favorite menu recommendations. The food was incredible. My husband ordered the catfish and grits and said it was, without question, the best catfish he's ever had. I had the scallops with jambalaya risotto, and as someone who is notorious for not finishing a meal, it took everything in me not to lick the plate.
