They also have great cold pressed juices, kombucha, smoothies, açaí bowls, and desserts. We ordered and highly recommend any of these dishes: - Açaí Bowl (I prefer this one for the berry variety and chestnut crumble) - Pink Pitaya Bowl - Raw Superfoods Salad (I got this twice. The hummus is so fluffy, light, and flavorful. I'm in love! I don't know exactly why, but the name "Flax & Kale" through me off. Maybe I thought of those two flavors together, and didn't like the idea. But I am SO GLAD I came! First off, be warned, it's not inexpensive to eat here. That being said, it doesn't completely break the bank. It got really busy as the night went on, so come early, or make reservations. The patio seating upstairs is to die for! It's very cute atmosphere, and you are sitting next to a garden with veggies and herbs. We got both soups. Both were delicious! And we had a couple of the very unique cold pressed juices from down stairs. For dinner, we shared the mushroom tacos. They were very good! And quite filling. They have fish options, vegan options and gluten free options. The menu is very clear about which options are which. I will definitely be back to try more of this gorgeous menu! read more

During our 5-day stay in Barcelona, my boyfriend and I have visited this place 3 times - we dined there on 2 different occasions and we also decided to pick up some juices on the way to the beach. It was also a nice break from all of the carbs and carne we were eating from the previous weeks. I'd like to say our meals here were sort of a detox! The ambience is amazing - it's very spacious with high ceilings and it even has a second floor for additional seating! Natural light coming in from the windows which makes for amazing photos! Now let's get to the food. When my boyfriend and I dined here, we got the grilled watermelon as an appetizer. It kinda weirded us out for a bit but just from reading the reviews, everyone was raving about it. And boy was it life-changing!! The watermelon and goat cheese complemented each other so well. As far as our meals, I got the salmon mini burgers and one of their scrambles, which is available for weekend brunch! It was extremely delicious and very filling. I've also had one of the best smoothies I've ever had in my entire life here, which was called El Batido de Cubano (coconut water, coconut milk, raw cocoa, bananas, and agave syrup). Despite it being such a popular place, we never had to wait more than 10 minutes for a table. Their service is very speedy and they're extremely hospitable. I've decided that the positive reviews for this place must stem from its novelty in Barcelona. It's just a copy of every other overdone hipster salad bar/juicery you can find anywhere in the US. Seeking something lighter after days of eating heavy Spanish fare, hubby and I came here on the recommendation of our concierge. The restaurant is beautiful, sure, but in that renovated warehouse way (large windows, exposed ceilings, and open kitchen) that every new restaurant looks like nowadays. I can see how that's an appealing juxtaposition to the architecture in Barcelona, though. There were many open tables but we were seated at a large table to share with another couple. No big deal. Onto the food: We got a tropical smoothie, which was good, but thicker than a normal smoothie. It had to be eaten with a spoon. We ordered the kale salad and Green Power Raviolo. The kale salad was actually pretty good, with the exception of the sliced radish, which was really bitter. The ravioli was cold and tasteless. If I'm reading the menu correctly it's not even gluten free so I'm not sure why it was so blah tasting. I ate it all because I was hungry, so I guess it couldn't have been that bad. Overall, an interesting, light, healthy option in a sea of paella and tapas restaurants in Barcelona. Good for vegetarians and "flexitarians" (I learned a new word!) but not for meat and carb eaters like me (or anyone who loves flavor). read more

Beautiful restaurant, reasonable service, delicious food with plenty of veggies. Living in a hotel for two weeks has meant eating out for every meal, in other words, a pretty unbalanced diet. So, having so many plant based options was a godsend. However the prices are very similar to what we pay in San Francisco so don't expect low prices here. I had the creamy kale soup and paleo bread which was wonderful. I will be back for more no question! It came with kale chips that were delicious, way better than the store bought stuff. The reason for 4 stars and not 5 - My friend had the salmon entree which we had to send back because it was really undercooked. When it came back it was still less cooked compared to what you would get in most restaurants in the US. He went weird later that day and for a £20 they should cook the salmon to the appropriate doneness without being asked. It did taste good but unless they are using sushi grade fish that can definitely make people sick. If you get the salmon just ask them to make it medium cooked. If the weather is nice also try to sit upstairs as they have a beautiful 2nd floor with a garden read more

Amazing food experience here in Barcelona. Everything from the atmosphere to the service was fantastic. Spent a Sunday morning here, arrived around 11am which was perfect because soon after the brunch rush approached and the wait time was longer. We were able to be seated right away! We started off with Cappuccino, which were delicious. I had mines with a double shot. We then had the avocado toast which was very tasty & FILLING. The bread consist of a thick slice and the amount of avocado on top was more than enough. The presentation was simply beautiful. I also tried the eggs Benedict it was decent. The mushrooms had a bit of a strong flavor more than my liking. We ended with the açaí bowls which were tasty! Also very fillings, we wanted to make sure to try as much as possible, however anything you order here; portions will be more than enough. Is it possible to want to live inside a restaurant and never come out? If so, I'd pick Flax & Kale for my culinary abode. Definitely not your typical Barcelona fare and more reminiscent of something you'd find on every major boulevard on the west coast, but they do it so well and with such fresh, inexpensive ingredients that you don't care that it's not unique to the area. The two stories are just beaming. The upstairs is only open come lunch and dinner time, but if you make your way to the restroom during early morning hours, you get a peek into its charm. It's atrium meets quirky boardroom meets hacienda style indoor seating and bar. There's even a little garden in the middle of the rooftop seating...some of their stuff is literally garden to table. Fresh pressed juices and smoothies made right before your eyes (if you sit at the bar downstairs), as well as some heavenly earthier items in bowls and jars. The menu is quite extensive, so be prepared to do some serious laboring over what to settle on. I had a green juice, ginger turmeric vegan donut (a dense, spiced treat!), and a crunchy fish taco (obviously not bfast-y, but on their bfast menu, which I appreciated since the donut and juice served as my starter meal). My boyfriend and I came here for brunch with pretty high expectations since this spot is very close to our hotel and is ALWAYS packed. We shared a smoothie (called the rejuvenator) and a chai tea, both were good. I liked how the smoothie came with goji berries in it, that was a good touch. I ordered the breakfast bagel with vegan cheese and bacon. I also added a poached egg to it and enjoyed the sandwich as a whole. The "bacon" on its own had a pretty odd texture but that's pretty much to be expected when you're turning coconut into something that tastes like bacon.. my boyfriend on the other hand wasn't as excited about his meal, he ordered the poke fish taco and it came out pretty disappointing. The taco barely had any fish on it, it was mainly cabbage, and it was served on its own as just a small taco. The size of it wasn't really the issue, it just wasn't at all satisfying because of the lack of actual fish on it. I still give this place a 4 because I was happy with my meal, and the overall atmosphere and idea of the restaurant is cool. I love a good healthy meal! read more

We very much enjoyed our visit to Flax & Kale! How wonderful to find a vegan/vegetarian/gluten-free friendly restaurant with such a beautiful atmosphere. We sat on the roof garden patio, an open-air patio with beautiful marble tables and lots of natural light, with a great view of their vegetable garden. Their menus are written in Spanish, Catalan and English, and have guides on them so you can know if your dish has fish, or is gluten-free, or vegan, etc. Very handy for special diets and allergies. We started with the kale chips, which were crispy and tangy and delicious, and also the grilled watermelon, which was unique and delectable treat. I had the tuna burger, which came on a cool black bun, and was served with a side of incredible tender carrots. Other dishes ordered by our table included the salmon sliders, the anchovy flatbread, the fish taco, and the zucchini blossoms. Everything was scrumptious, I think we'd recommend all of it. Dessert is where things fell a little short. It's hard to make truly healthy dessert taste good, and Flax & Kale's dairy-free ice cream tastes pretty watery, especially the chocolate flavor. The cinnamon chai flavor was better, and the two-texture chocolate cake was the best, but it still didn't taste as decadent as it looked. I guess when you're eating healthy you can't always have decadent! Also, very expensive food in general. But overall, this was a great place for lunch, and I would recommend it. read more

Best avocado toast I've ever eaten. Wanted to get the Açai Bowl first but the waitress told me to try the Pitaya Bowl. Extremly refreshing and super tasty. Since the pancakes were labelled super healthy I was very curious about them. I have never eaten pancakes this good and nutritious. We stumbled upon Flax & Kale while wandering Barcelona and it made me the happiest traveler. Their flexitarian offerings were diverse, plentiful, and intriguing...so naturally we went for breakfast and dinner. The juice selection was insanely awesome, and I had to contain myself from purchasing more than a person could reasonably expect to drink in one day alone. The smoothie bowl I had for breakfast was something I plan to (try and) replicate at home: açai berry, goji berries, GF granola, nuts and seeds, berries...perfection. For dinner, the watermelon salad was clutch and the tuna burger was inspiring, if that's an acceptable term to describe food. The only disappointment, was the "rainbow" cake--with flavors and colors from beets, turmeric, matcha, etc. The turmeric one was particularly unpleasant, and I had a feeling even when I ordered it. I want to love this place because I eat gluten free and they have tasty choices. However, the bad experiences keep rolling. Nothing to do with staff or the place but the food itself. I keep finding things that shouldn't be in my food. One time it was a maggot in my salad, the second time a stone larger than a rice grain. The first time I was dining in and they explained that their salad leaves come ready washed so there was not much they could do about it. They comped the plate and offered another dish for free - by that time I had lost my appetite. The second time was a take out. I have been to the restaurant many times with others and they reported experiencing stomach issues after eating. We continued eating here alternating the dishes to figure out the offender. This hasn't been my experience so I thought maybe it is specific to certain dishes although I have sampled most of the menu. Can't put my finger on it but I am concerned that they are lacking some quality checks. Their sister restaurant Teresa Carles was my all time favorite but even in that spot I have witnessed the kitchen staff taking garbage out and coming back to continue scooping out avocados without washing their hands. I'd hate to scratch this place off completely. I am leaving this review in case others are having a similar experience and they think they have just been unlucky. I don't give a lot of 5 Star reviews but this place deserves it. The interior is very nicely done and feels open and Airy. The menu has a lot of range and I love how food type stuff is clearly indicated. It's also great that everything here is dairy free. I was able to have the pancakes which I usually can't eat and it was delicious. Often pancakes are made to sweet but these ones have just the right balance. I tried Teresa's favorite milkshake which was also just right on the sweet balance with strawberry and almond butter. And then to finish up I had a fish taco which was nicely done. The shell was very crispy and so it kind of came apart but whatever. Just a very nice place that is extremely healthy too. I would definitely come here again. read more

I'm studying abroad from the US, and while I'm a sucker for some tapas and paella, sometimes you just need a good kale salad. This salad was incredibly exciting from start to finish. Bursts of flavors that interplayed extremely well together. From sweet mangos, fresh sprouts, umami seaweed, smooth avocado, the tangy vinaigrette... one of the best, most colorful, and pretty kale salads I've ever had.
