I was so disappointed in my experience at JackRabbit today. I have been to this store many times to purchase all of my running needs. It has always been okay, nothing great. I usually go in during the weekends so I am used to waiting for service. Today was my first weekday experience. I was the only person in the store and the person I asked for help to purchase sneakers seemed totally un-interested. I had asked to trial various types of running sneakers since I am prone to injury. He had me try one type and when I wasn't happy, didn't offer any others. When I had asked for a new brand he just seemed annoyed. I asked for a moment and he walked away, talked to other staff members and didn't come back. Needless to say, I didn't purchase anything. I would only come back to JackRabbit for clothing, where I didn't need help. If you are wanting service and advice, go to the super runner's store. I have never had a problem there. I think the folks at JackRabbit are a little "too cool for school" to be of assistance. read more

A few of my friends wanted to get into running. I recommended that they check out JackRabbit to get their feet analyzed to see what sneakers would be best for them. Found that the park slope location was holding a running form clinic and it would be perfect for them. So all 6 of us signed up for the clinic on 3/26 at 6:30PM. We all arrive there only to find out there was a mistake and the running clinic was only at the UES location that day. Of course we are all confused b/c we signed up AND received an e-mail confirmation. The people at the store said it wasn't them that sets it up and to take it up w/corporate. Extremely frustrated at this point, especially since 2 of them traveled an hour to go there. My friends ended up going to another place to buy their running kicks. Oh well! read more

My in store experiences have all been good, but I love their Beginning Running training programs! I think many people have a love/hate relationship with running, I certainly love the benefits but have never been a fan of running. I participated in both the summer and fall programs and logged more miles than I ever would have thought possible. The coaches who met us in Prospect Park were great. Absolutely A+ service! My room mate recommended this place to me because it's where his training team recommended to him. I'm so glad I came here! I was promptly greeted upon entering the store by the friendly gentleman behind the counter. He asked me what I was looking for and I told him that I needed a new pair of running shoes. I told him that I know that I pronate a bit and he knew immediately the type of shoes that I would need. He let me try on a few different pairs to see which ones felt the best and put me on a treadmill and recorded how my feet landed when I was running and played it back in slow motion so I can see the difference to see which pair was most effective. All the while, we were having friendly conversation which was very pleasant. I was in and out pretty quick because of his knowledge and professionalism and it was a joy to do business there. I stopped into JackRabbit Park Slope a few months back to get some running shoes. I'm a new runner, and my Nikes just weren't cutting it anymore, so I decided to invest in something specifically designed for running. Upon walking in, I was warmly greeted by Meghan, who asked me my shoe size, and went to get a pair for me to try. She then had me get onto a treadmill, so she could record my gait, and the way my foot lands on the treadmill. To no one's surprise, I'm an overpronator, which explains the ankle pain I've been experiencing lately. I also have slightly wide feet, so Meghan identified two shoes that would help stabilize my ankles during my runs, and then she had me try each on the treadmill. She also thoroughly explained why running shoes should be larger than regular shoes (I was feeling slightly salty about having to get a 9.5, lol). I settled on a pair of Asics, and so far, I have not been disappointed. I ended up needing to get orthotic arch supports as well, but the combination of the arch support and the new shoes makes for pain-free runs. Now, I was slightly disappointed by the selection of shoes (I wish I'd had more than two options), but this is a small store, so I understand. That's really the only reason I took off one star. read more

I am a dark-skinned Latina and Park Slope has been my place of residence since I was three. I walked into JackRabbit, which is one of my neighborhood shoe stores, and, since I'm just a novice runner, I thought I would go to a store that seems to know a little about the subject. Well, if they do know anything I wouldn't know. Because based on their lack of customer service you would think they are novices themselves. I went in early afternoon on a weekday and the store was empty, therefore, I doubt their service, or lack thereof, was due to being too busy. In fact, when I walked in with my sister, who is a bit heavier, they looked at us with a deer in headights look. I asked for a pair of Merrels and was told that they would not have them in until November due to Merrell revamping their line. Um, okay, but that was it. The rep looked away and the conversation was over. I was not asked any questions about why I was interested in this particular shoe and no other suggestions were made. I guess I was expected to wait till November to purchase new running shoes. It wasn't until I asked if they had anything comparable to Merrells that one of the sales reps. reluctantly stepped away from behind the counter and showed me some of their other similar running shoes. I mentioned that the sneakers I'm using is causing me some knee pains, but no mention was made of using their treadmill to guage my gait. I was prepared to spend a considerable amount of money to help support my local business, but this business will never see my brown body, or money, in it's premises again. However, there is another shoe store two blocks away and when I asked for merrels, though they did not have them in stock yet, the owner let me know that they were expecting shipment this week. And when I told him the color I was interested in he shared that though that color was not part of their order they could place a special order for me. Now that is what I call customer service! People if you are in small neighborhood business do not forget that you are in the customer service business! And everyone or anyone, despite their looks, who walks through your doors expects to receive exceptional customer service. read more

Really excellent service with knowledgable staff. I came here at the recommendation of a few runner friends and ended up leaving with a pair of great, high quality shoes that I'm 100% happy with. Even though the shop was packed when I arrived, I received adequate attention and did not have to wait at all for my assessment. As a newbie runner, I'd never even tried a treadmill before coming to the store. Luckily, the staff member who worked with me was super patient and helpful, so I never needed to feel embarrassed. I ended up with a helpful assessment, a great shoe, and left the shop 20 minutes later confident with my purchase. Bonus: I checked on Amazon and my shoe price was almost same as what I'd paid in the store - there was hardly any mark up! I will be back to JackRabbit again. read more

I had a really great experience here. It was my first time in Jackrabbits but I knew right away that I was in the right spot. I needed a pair of running shoes and after having gotten my last pair at a knowledgable running/sports store in DC I knew that I would need the same this go around. The staff was extremely helpful, knowledgable, and informative. They even recommended items that were LESS expensive than what I was looking at because I just didn't need the attributes that were offered in that particular shoe. The other staff entertained my daughters while I shopped and tried on shoes, which was awesome and allowed me to focus on what I was doing. The large variety of shoes was superb; high quality and lots of styles but with a nice range of prices. Overall, i found my new shoe spot for sports......bar none. read more

Perfect. I have always been a bargain hunter when it comes to sneakers and was afraid the prices would be too crazy here. Not at all. Prices were fair and there were also sale sneakers available. Most importantly, they did a stride analysis and hooked me up with a brand of sneaker I probably wouldn't have picked for myself (Hokas) which I was able to test out on the treadmill there before purchase. They are awesome. Also had the best price (even better than amazon) on wireless headset. Staff was sooo approachable. I thought there would be super triathletes in there being "judgy" , but the kids who work there are very nice, very chill, very patient, and very competent. read more

Jack Rabbit is my favorite local sports shop. The one catch that has caught me is that if you are a repeat customer, after the first $100 you spend, they give you a 10% discount on all purchases thereafter. Sweet. The selection is not very extensive, but you can get a little of everything. The gear is pretty cool, but the shop is kind of pricey. The staff is very knowlegeable and friendly and to be honest, they look like they all work out too!! Another wonderful thing about this store is that they have people there that can train you for cycling or running or even triathalons!! They are not located in this shop in Brooklyn, but rather the one in Manhattan. However, the Brooklyn folks can tell you who to ask for if you do need to link up with a trainer. They are friendly, professional, and incredibly knowledgeable about their products and NYC athletic-related events, activites, etc. They are all athletes themselves and can give first-hand advice about many of the products. I've been running for a few years, and lately I'd developed a chronic pain on my right side. I went into JackRabbit because a friend had suggested that the problem wasn't the running, but the shoes i was wearing. I spoke to Connor, who basically turned out to be the most helpful, informative and friendly person I've ever dealt with in ANY retail experience. A runner/cyclist himself, he confirmed some of my thoughts about running/shoes and filled me in on a LOT of new information when it comes to body mechanics, different types of sneakers and how the way you run determines the kind of sneakers you need. He got me and my friend on the treadmill to check out our gait, talked to us and explained how the way we run required certain kinds of sneakers (or changing our gait, which both of us are unwilling to do). My friend got a new pair, and I'm going back in a week or two to get mine. Can't recommend this place - or its staff - enough. JackRabbit has a decent selection of sneakers and they don't carry Nike shoes, all pluses in my book, but a number of the staff don't sound like dedicated runners. That said some of those non-runner types still possessed an extensive knowledge of various brand quirks. They will let you spend a lot of time trying your shoes out on the treadmill and filming it to check your gait. They don't pressure you to buy although I did feel pressured into buying a 1/2 size larger than the shoes I usually run in and that didn't really work out for me... I think triatheletes may be more their thing, they do have interesting sounding classes but they are also on the pricey side. read more

A great local place to buy running gear. If you need to get fitted for new running shoes, they spend time with you (like an hour!) while you try on 5-10 pairs, run with them on the treadmill, watch video footage of your feet as you run in the different shoes, etc. The prices aren't low, but you pay for the quality customer service and the top-notch products. read more

I came here when they opened on a Saturday morning (10am). There was basically no one else in the shop, which means I got all of the attention I needed - I got to see the weird thing my right ankle does when it strikes the ground on video, and the sales girl suggested some shoes with more support, which seems to have corrected said weird ankle thing. I also discovered Asics were the way to go, after trying on about 4 pairs of shoes and running with them on camera. In all, it was a good experience, and I'm happy with my shoes (rather, my feet are happy, which makes me happy overall). That being said, I'm not sure I could give the place 4 stars had I come during a busier time. The place is quite small, and there's only 1 treadmill, so if you want one-on-one attention with video analysis, it would be damn near impossible during busier times, and I don't think it would be worth the trip there. They also don't seem to carry a large selection of shoes - I was expecting more, but was pleased with what I ended up with (even though they do look like weird alien pods - pretty, they ain't). read more

I got into running in 2011 and acquired my first pair of running kicks at JackRabbit. The service and experience has always been consistent; the staff is very knowledgable and very helpful with your concerns/questions. Since my first purchase, I have gone through 3 pairs of running kicks all of which were purchased from this location. In my last visit, I was looking for a different brand of kicks based on my recent running issues with my current pair. The sales rep was very in tune with my issues and had the patience to bring me over 6-7 pairs of kicks to try out. While the prices are at market cost, I don't mind paying for it because of their customer service. In addition to customer service, they allow you to try out the kicks for 2 weeks (wear and tear must be within reason, so that means no trail running or jumping into every puddle you see!). I highly recommend this place for those that are new to running. The majority of the sales reps are runner themselves and it's always helpful to get actual good insight on each shoe. There are many other stores that I shall not name that have sales reps that dress the part but are definitely faux runners! read more

Todd was extremely knowledgeable and experienced and genuinely cares about finding the right shoe for your foot. He had me try on multiple pairs and video taped my stride on the treadmill each time, until we found the perfect fit. Okay so a) I have never liked to spend money on shoes opting to wear donations and flea mkt giveaways and b) historically with 'sneakers' and the like, my organics have collided with the textures and yielded difficult stinky aromas but and this is a big BUT... but at some ankle issues and wife's insistence I check out running shoe options at JR I popped in the 7th ave Slope store few weeks ago. A polite young lady whose name began with an 'S' (sorry I have forgotten rest) offered to help me. Without rambling on too much, after being shown several varieties I walked out of the store with really cool colored Asics that fit like los glove! I have pretty much lived in these shoes and though am not a runner did try a couple blox but for walking they are the cat's meow! Love this place. The majority of the time the staff is very helpful and the prices they have on shoes match my range. They also have all the running aides that you'll need from Honey Stingers to GU chomps and the like. The only issue I have, which business-wise is better for them than me, is that SOOO many people shop here that its difficult to come back and find what you need. So if you see a pair of shoes tell them to set it aside, or if you find that right pair of shorts scoop it up...it probably won't be there when you return. read more

Excellent staff and service at this location. I was here for packet pick up for the New Year's Eve run and it was packed with so many people inside. On any other day, I imagine the space is adequate but it is the smallest JackRabbit I've been to. This location is not accessible for people who don't do stairs - shoes, socks, and books are up a short stack, and tri gear and women's clothes are downstairs. So I spent a lot of time here when I decided for about 5 months that I was going to be a runner. There's a lot of cool stuff that you can easily spend away your paycheck on, and they are pretty helpful there, but I also feel like I could get this stuff online for a better price. I went in there with a group to do a shoe fitting, and while it was cool that they could video tape you running and such, I ended up with the same shoe as 99% of the group. Maybe that's because my feet are exactly like everyone else's (unlikely), or maybe that Brooks shoe is a good shoe for a lot of people, but I didn't feel like my specific issues were handled. They do have decent sales though. And they are quite often. You don't have to wait that long to get a buy one, get one half off type deal (especially at the end of the seasons), and during the 7th Heaven festival on 7th during the summer, they have a crapload of really cheap things (I got a pair of the Vibram 5 fingers shoes for REALLY cheap - figured I could try it without remorse this way!). Nice to have in the area, and they have a free running group, and they also offer some good beginner running classes and tri/swim classes too. read more

I had a great experience at JackRabbit. I went in knowing I needed new shoes, but not what kind. The sales rep ran me through about 7 pairs, each of which she had me jog on the treadmill while having my gait filmed. We reviewed each pair frame by frame and found that I am a mild pronator. I tried several neutral shoes and eventually settled on a stability shoe (Saucony ProGrid Guide 5) that felt amazing. I really appreciated the attention to detail and willingness to spend time with me to get the job done right. I'm extremely satisfied with my purchase (price was very competitive with online stores) and will most definitely go back. read more

Love this place. They have all sorts of athletic wear, especially for runners. Nice shoe selection, but it's not huge, mainly, I think, because they have hand-selected the shoes they think are worth buying. New Balance, Oasics, etc., but no Nikes that I saw. They also carry iPhone (touchscreen) gloves that actually work. $5 water bottles. Not an enormous store, but three solid floors of merchandise and a very helpful staff. They also offer training programs for runners, if you want some help in your training. Last time I was in the store (yesterday, and I'm probably going again today, which would make three days in a row this week) they gave me 10% off my purchase. Great store in a great area with great people. Definitely give them a shot. read more

I really like JackRabbit and they always carry a good selection of running shoes. Surprisingly, they often have some pretty good shoes on sale, especially shoes that are soon being replaced by a newer version. They provide a cool service that gauges whether you have a pronation in your running stride, so they can offer you the right type of shoe. My only criticism is sometimes they get wrapped up with a particular customer and you end up waiting a while for help. read more

Apparently they don't carry my size anymore (I have wide feet) and didn't offer a single solution other than I could try to go to their store in the city. No offer to call them, no offer to place a special order, nothing. Totally disappointed at the lack of respect shown to a repeat customer. In a time when many local brick and mortar stores in Park Slope are closing in response to rising rents and online retail, Jack Rabbit needs to do better.
