I love running shoes and gear, but am proudly NOT a runner. However, the hubby is, so Fleet Feet suits both of our needs. I like hittin' up the sale rack for a new hoodie or a great sports bra; he actually needs their services to fit his feet for the perfect shoe. (Who knew it was so specific?) You can usually see goofs running up and down Lincoln, trying out the newest New Balance or Saucony. The staff is knowledgeable and super friendly without being too pushy. Recently, I was in just randomly looking for Christmas gifts, and a sales associate hooked me up with maternity running gear for my uber-active pregnant friend. She LOVED it! They also have a points program for when your old sneaks wear out and you need new ones. It's my favorite of all the FF's, and believe me, we've tried 'em all. read more

I like the one in Piper Alley better. That store is much larger though I think this one claims to have more shoes. I don't know. The location sucks if you have to drive here. It's near the Western brown line, but it's in that cramped area of Lincoln Square with all the shops so parking is tough. I can only imagine that packet pickup days are a bit of a nightmare. Other than that, my likes and dislikes are the same for this store as the one on Wells. For those of you who understandably have had to wait to get fitted for shoes the best thing I can tell you is to go during the week. My experience with all shoe stores have been .... lukewarm. I retract.. Running Away in Deerfield is great. I had high hopes for Fleet Feet since they host & sponsor a ton of events in Chicago land area, but service at this Lincoln Square location was sub par. I was excited to put my xmas gift card to good use & buy a new pair of running shoes.. my old Brooks were torn and should've been tossed months ago. When I entered store, there were 2 workers in front register and another worker by the merchandise section. I stood there for about 5 mins waiting to talk to someone, but none of 'em greeted me. AWKWARD.. I took it upon myself to grab the fella lounging by apparel to ask him 'bout my new pair of kicks. Agenda: To test this guy out and see what kind of shoes he would pair me up with. Years ago, another running store paired me up with running shoes for pronation, and it lead to knee and ankle injuries. I went to an sports athletic trainer in college while I was rehabbing, and discovered that what I really needed was a shoe w/cushion and support. I had no problem with pronation. This guy put me on the treadmill and watched me jog for couple mins and said I have a good gait and stride. He paired me up w/shoes w/cushion and stability :) Right on. My ultimate problem w/shoes is size. My itty bitty feet is a pain in my arse. Size 4-5. Not many gym shoes carry small sizes. He came out w/3 pairs of shoes.. Saucony in size 3 (GIRLS???), mizuno (size 6), Asics (5 1/2). I've worn kids gym shoes in past (Nike Shock) and they are made and fit differently than adults. They come out wider (dunno why), and fit is all wrong. If I was 16, it would've been a different story. I put on the Saucony and took 'em off right away. Mizuno in size 6... not sure what he was thinking. He even measured my feet (size 4).. sigh. I love Asics and have worn 5 1/2 before so I tried it on. It wasn't bad, a lil big but I jogged around for a bit and I was pretty content. Sizing with Asics isn't the store's problem, it's the Asic company. They have discontinued size 5 in many models. :( So I just sucked it up and bought this pair. I'm not sure if i'll be back to this location, I've had better experience at Piper Alley location. Workers who like their job and want to take care of their customers. Yes..I'm a little bitter. Gimme a break. A good shoe is pivotal for proper workout regime. read more

I bought a pair of running shoes--Hoka Rincon--a couple of weeks ago at the Lincoln Square store. This long-time 68 year old runner needed some advice for sore lower leg muscles in making the decision. The store was busy, so I had lots of time to peruse their selection. Skyler listened to my needs, took a careful digitized measurement of my foot, including the height of my arches, and recommended a couple brands of shoes that I had not heard of. Long story short, the shoes have greatly reduced my calf strain. I'm back to my old running routes and am considering training for another marathon; something I haven't done since 2013. Let me first start off by saying that I hate, hate HATE chain stores with a passion that can only to described as blinding. Yet, I love Fleet Feet! Huh! I know the staff there by name (and even some of their pets!) and they know me, my running style, my pace, my running needs, and many other things about me. Even during the super busy marathon training season they have items that are hard to keep stocked. For example, they still had an abundant supply of energy gels the week of the marathon. (That impressed me because those things get sucked so quickly that many I know have carried baggies of honey because the flavors that they could handle sold out.) When I am on the running path and I see a Fleet Feet staff member they always say "hi" and it makes me feel like I am living in a small town where everyone is a runner. read more

I am a long time athlete but first time marathon runner this year. Unfortunately, I bought my first pair of training shoes at the New Balance store. The people at Fleet Feet told me that the New Balance store sold me all terrain shoes, which is good for running on lake front gravel trails, but bad for summer time sweating. Fleet Feet does an excellent job at fitting you for shoes, watching you run in them, and really taking the time to help you understand how you run, and what shoes will best conform to your technique. I have been here twice now, and while it is a bit pricey, I feel like I learned something new about running, training, or apparel both times I have been there. While I would recommend getting shoes here, perhaps Nike Outlet or somewhere else has running clothes for cheaper. read more

Wow. Whoever was helping me really did not want to help. For some reason the sales person that was "helping" me didn't want to help me. He seem to walk away from me. I've gone to other shops in the middle of a run (don't ask) and I still was able to have a good discussion with whoever was helping me.Had sales person's attitude been better, I probably would have gone back, instead, he turned me off from coming back. They say you always remember your first and it's true - I'll never forget this store as it was the first time I was fitted for running shoes. I used to live in the neighborhood back when the rent in the area wasn't so bad and when most people didn't ever come north of Irving Park and this was my neighborhood running store. I'd come in, get my shoes, look at the different accessories/clothing, pick up the free chicago area running magazines and walk back home. So, like most running stores, you can go there and have a salesperson work with you and find out which shoe fits your gait/running style. They'll spend as much time with you as you need and I've never felt too pressured to buy anything. I wasn't always loyal to Fleet Feet - but it's always had a special place in my heart (I've come back from NYC and purchased a pair of shoes there). read more

I jogged roughly five miles yesterday and for the first time in ages, my knees didn't feel like someone had kicked me in the kneecaps repeatedly. Apparently when I run, I overpronate, which leads directly to stress on the ankles, shins, and knees. My knees and shins were certainly complaining, and at twenty-six, I'm too g-d-mn young for that! I want to go back into Fleet Feet and hug the snot out of the guy who sold me these shoes. Dude took a half hour watching me jog up to the corner and back in different pairs of shoes to help me find this pair that corrected my stride. Running feels awesome again. I'd be hard-pressed to go elsewhere for shoes now. read more

Once I was helped, the service at Fleet Feet is unparalleled! The woman helping me was knowledgeable and fit me with great, albeit ugly, shoes. I actually learned that I had been running with shoes a half size too small. I'm giving Fleet Feet 4 stars instead of 5 because I had to wait quite awhile to be helped (the store was crowded), and I think they could carry some more affordable running apparel. read more

The best part about Fleet Feet? The fact that you can visit any of their locations around the city and you get the same excellent service. The staff sometimes rotates around the various locations so you may run into your favorite show expert anytime. This location has easy parking options off western or you can just take the brown line to Western and walk down two blocks. As a walker in my 3rd Avon Walk for Breast Cancer, this is my walking/running shoe mecca. Before coming here, I'd just pick what was on sale, or whatever price fit my budget. My lesson from shopping here, was a shoe shouldn't have a birthday.. my response to that was " crap, my shoe is pretty much over the hill then ". The best choice I made for my feet was coming here. My ankle problems have subsided with the selection of the right fit for a shoe. They are super helpful, the key is to speak up if anything is bothering you with the shoe. These guys really know their stuff, and I've gotten most of my family members to get their shoes there too! I have ankle support issues and a painful heel spur. That said, I have to been choosy on the shoes I wear, since I am on my feet all day. Valerie helped me find the best shoes possible and was exceptionally kind and educated me a lot on what I needed. She was very thorough with putting me in the best shoes possible. I walked out of the store with a great pair of shoes and knowing I was taken care of by someone who really likes what she does and had the knowledge to do it properly. In an age where buying shoes online is the norm and customer service in some stores is a thing of the past, it's nice to see one store that still cares and listens to their clientele. I LOVE FLEET FEET. I was referred to Fleet Feet by my PT after working with me on a tendonitis issue. I needed arch supports for my existing shoes, but I ended up leaving with new shoes plus arch supports and I love them. I worked with Aaron who was super cool, patient and knowledgeable in all that are FEET. I walked around for him to check out how I step and what he needs to provide for me to step better, I walked on the treadmill with each new pair of shoes to see if they solved my problem. He explained everything about feet and how they work and how mine aren't working properly and what we need to do to make my pain go away forever and ever amen. I tried on about 5 pairs of different brands and settled on a pair of Brooks. I am really feeling the difference in the cushion and support from both the shoe itself and the arch supports inside. I'll be back next time I need a pair, or if any of my friends need a pair I'll go with! *I spent about an hour and 15 minutes in this place. Totally worth it. read more

I had been meaning to go to Fleet Feet for a while, and a few days ago I found myself in the neighborhood running an errand and decided to stop in. I walked in a Fleet Feet virgin so I didn't know what to expect, but my marathon running friend assured me this was the place to go to get good shoes. There were about 4 or 5 people in line in front of me, so my friend and I wandered around and checked out the merchandise while we waited. For a small store they had a lot of great stuff. They had a decent selection of Sigg bottles to choose from, so I ended up picking up one of those to replace my poisonous Nalgene bottle. My number was finally called and it turned out I was the last customer of the night. There were 3 employees fitting customers, and I got the one who had been with the same girl since I had walked in about 45 minutes earlier. I'm not sure what happened with her, but since she had obviously taken a long time he looked kind of tired and wasn't as chatty as the other two employees had been with their clients. Or maybe it was just because it was the end of the night and he wanted to go home, but overall he didn't really seem to connect with me the way I had seen the other employees connecting with the customers they were fitting. I explained to him that I'm not a runner, but I wanted a good shoe for walking and general working out. He suggested I get running shoes anyway since they are more lightweight. He sized me up, watched me walk, made me do some lunges (my favorite), and brought out 3 pairs for me to try on. Out of the 3 I tried on there was a clear winner, and I even lucked out in the color/style department (which I had been worried about going in). I love the shoes I got - they are so much more comfortable than the shoes I had been working out in, and they are also more supportive. I actually live closer to the other location in Pipers Alley so if the need arises I will probably go to that one, but overall I was fairly pleased with the experience. read more

I have been fitted for shoes at the location in Old Town, but this was my first visit to the Lincoln Square location. I prefer this one based on the area since I find Lincoln Square to generally be more enjoyable and less crazy. The selection of shoes, apparel and accessories is great and you can find just about anything you need here. In my honest opinion, the prices for the clothes can be steep but that's how it is for running gear these days. They did have a little rack of clothes for 50% off so that was nice. The staff seems very friendly and knowledgeable as well. I can't wait to return to get fitted again for new shoes since I am sure I will go through a pair or two while training for my first marathon. read more

As a non-runner accompanying my runner Hubby, I was a little apprehensive going to this store. Usually I hang out at the German food store down the street or the Chopping Block. When I finally decided to start running with my Hubby, this was the place to go for new shoes. I echo other Yelpers' comments regarding the outstanding customer service. The employee you are paired will take his/her time finding the right shoe for you. I spent an entire hour fitting several different types of shoes. It's also okay to take them on a test run around the block or on the treadmill. They even take video of you running to analyze your gait. I learned about the factors to consider when buying a new running shoe. The shoes are pricey, but worth it given the quality and specifications that tailor to experienced and causal runners alike. I ended up with a pair that I am completely satisfied with. Even if I was not, they have a great return and exchange policy. I would recommend going on an off peak time (not say Saturday late morning) so that it's less crowded and you have more time (and space) to really try out several shoes. Man this place is great! I've put off getting new running shoes for far too long. Luckily one of my dogs sped up the process by chewing the back off of my shoe... I like their service and their knowledge of shoes. The employees take care into finding the shoe that will work best for your running step. They did not disappoint, they pulled out three versions of shoes for me to try on and jog in. I wound up purchasing the updated version of Aasics that I had previously...they're so smart there! Once I bought Sauconys from Fleet Feet, I have never gone back to any other shoe. All of my knee pain went away. And these guys knew how to find the right fit. After trying to find a shoe store that sells wide athletic shoes some one recommended fleet feet. First off trying to find them was just a pain they have three addresses and two of them no longer are store locations. I went in with the sole purpose of buying a cross training shoe. I told the sales person what I was looking for: A cross trainer shoe and she recommended some shoes. I feel in love with a pair of new balance shoes that fit wonderfully. I was so happy I got a pair of cool new shoes I showed them to a few people at my gym. I found out from someone I trust who told me. "Man those are running shoes not cross trainers there not made for weight lifting or boxing or anything your doing in the gym." Littlie did I know that Fleet feet specializes in running shoes and no other shoe. But everyone recommends them for shoes but no one says "hey we deal in running shoes only". The sales women neglected to tell me this, I was trying on a long distance shoe and not a cross trainer. I specifically told the sales person what I was looking for and she gave me a running shoe! I asked for a cross trainer and what really pissed me off I love the feel of the shoe but they're not designed for my needs. I plan on returning the shoe tonight and I hope they take them back. It pays to do some research on the shoes you need learn from my mistake. Also Fleet Feet is partially to blame they should have told me right off the bat. Sorry sir we do not carry cross trainers we only carry running shoes. I would have gone on to the New Balance store and gotten the right shoe as one of my friends told me after the fact about. I'm just so disappointed in such a well-recommended and respected store, by so many athletes and people I know. Would have been nice to find out that I was sold a Green apple when I was looking for a granny smith apple. I know it's semantics but still when you need something you need it. I came in on a Thursday afternoon, and it wasn't too busy, and they had 8 people helping individual runners. I spoke to a tall thin guy, and he saw me run in my current running shoes. After he got an idea, he had me try inserts, then 2 different pairs of shoes. He was VERY helpful, explaining everything I needed to know about the shoe, and I ran on the treadmill 6 or 7 times just to make sure I got the right shoe. At the end of the day, I bought a pair of shoes that fit GREAT. The only thing I was worried about was the fact that the prices would be more expensive than other retailers. I came home, and searched the web, and these shoes are the same price you'd buy them anywhere else. I think I found them somewhere for $5 cheaper, but for the service I received, I would have gladly plaid $20 over retail! I don't know why I waited so long to come here! I'd been having issues with shin splints that ice and stretching weren't fixing. I started to think maybe I was wearing the wrong kind of shoes, and decided to come here. I barely had to say the words "shin pain" and Valerie immediately knew exactly what my problem was with the minimalist shoes I had been wearing and how to fix it. She rolled out some knots in my calf that I didn't even realize I had, watched me run, and determined that I needed shoes with better support. She was so knowledgeable and picked out the perfect shoes for me. I have since gone on several completely pain-free runs. The immediate difference was amazing. Yes it's a little pricey, but quality shoes will be expensive anywhere you go, and here you are also getting incredible service. And can you really put a price on preventing injury? Had another great experience at Fleet Feet - this time at the Lincoln Square location. I bought a pair of Saucony Guide 2 shoes from them on 7/25 and 'normal' Super Feet insoles. After putting about 17 miles on them (runs of 2, 4, 4, and 7 miles) I had pretty intense pain in the ball of my left foot after each run and into the next day to the point where I couldn't run in consecutive days. So I went back to my old shoes. On Sunday 8/9 I took the Saucony's back... dirty, no receipt, no box. The folks at Fleet Feet listened to my problem, watched me run again, tried a couple new pairs of shoes with added cushion/support in the forefoot and I walked out with a new pair of ASICS Nimbus 11 shoes. They gave me a full refund (store credit) and were sending the shoes back to Saucony along with my feedback. Fleet Feet could have very easily said it wasn't their problem and turned me away. It wasn't necessarily that the fit was bad, it was a cushion issue which was my fault, I told them when originally fitted I didn't like a lot of cushioning. I was wrong, turns out I need it. But they didn't want me running in pain and gave me over-the-top customer service. This is why I only buy running shoes at Fleet Feet. read more

If I could only add a few more stars to this 5-star rating -- EXCEPTIONAL CUSTOMER SERVICE AND EXPERIENCE for a first-time Fleet Feet customer! I received a gift card* for Christmas and wanted to use it, especially since the weather is brightening up and wanted a new pair of kicks to show off. *According to the website, gift cards can only be used for in-store purchases at the moment. I saw the Nike Flyknight Lunar 3 (blue) on the main Fleet Feet website (fleetfeetsports.com), but I didn't see them on Chicago's regional website (fleetfeetchicago.com). My first instinct was to call the store closest to me, however I was told they didn't have them yet they were kind enough to suggest similar shoes they had. I decided to submit an inquiry through their 'Contact Us' page; wasn't expecting anyone to respond. Within a day of my request, Fleet Feet Sports Chicago's Product Manager, Kyle L, on his day off -- talk about exceeding my expectations -- and asked what size(s) I was looking for since he told me they were in stock at a few of his city stores. So my knee was acting up and decide to go to Fleet Feet to get a patellar tendon strap but unfortunately grabbed a medium strap for my knee. Wasn't looking forward to going back because when I went to the store the first time it took forever for someone to ring me up. So I needed to return it. When I went to go exchange it at the store I walked up to the sales man and said i needed to exchange the med patellar tendon strap for a XL. He then said"We usually don't get those big sizes in here ...I'm shocked you found a XL." And then tops it off with saying "We usually don't have big runners in here"... Now don't get me wrong maybe it came out wrong... but it was awkward when he was saying in front of everyone... and if i felt uncomfortable there had to be a reason why... I just want to point out that not every runner has the same body type nor fashion "sense" lol neon. Everyone can run! read more

So last night, me and my husband took a jaunty trip over to Fleet Feet. I don't run. My knees hate it. I do, however, walk quite a bit...and my current shoes were making my feet look like raw hamburger, so new shoes were in order. I chose my previous pair of shoes based on their color. Apparently that is an incorrect way to pick shoes. Never again, I say! My feet are apparently a size 10 womens (Jesus Christ Yeti Feet), and roll inward to a pretty extreme degree. I tried on several pairs of shoes and eventually settled on a Saucony pair. I also tried on several pairs of 'over the counter' orthotics, and found a pair that /almost/ corrected my foot rolling problem. I'm one of those people who needs custom orthotics made, but THEY'RE REALLY EXPENSIVE, so this will have to do for now. The woman fitting me asked me to walk/jog back and forth in each pair of shoes, deciding which one fit the best. She was super friendly and I feel confident in my purchases. You only get one pair of feet and you need to take care of them...can't wait to walk it out! read more

I've had a couple experiences at Fleet Feet Sports, and all have been excellent. Mr. runs quite a bit, and his shoes, bought off the rack, were full of holes and his feet were hurting. When Christmas rolled around, I decided that he needed a good pair of running shoes. I had heard good things about Fleet Feet- that you could go in and get fitted for a proper shoe, so I headed over there during the holiday rush to get a gift certificate. In January, Mr. visited the shop and spent a good long time reviewing his gait and form so he could pick a proper shoe. He came home so excited about his experience (as a future PT, he loved being able to talk about pronation vs supination with his associate...Glavin!) and even more excited about his new shoes. A few weeks ago when I was about to embark on a new training plan and knew that my own shoes were worn and holey, I went back for my own fitting. I checked out a bunch of shoes after we analyzed by gait and whatnot, and picked a pair of shoes. Unfortunately, by the following day, my feet were covered in blisters from a defective shoe. No problem at all. I returned within the week with my shoes and receipt and explained the situation. They marked the shoes as defective, got me refit and send me away with a new pair of shoes within a half hour. Several weeks later, my shoes feel great and my program is off to a great start. I was skeptical, I admit it. I mean, can a sport-y type store REALLY be as good as everyone had been saying (Including my ladyfriend, the Speedy Semite)? And I'd bought shoes a million times before, too, including running shoes. Usually off the clearance rack at Dick's Sporting Goods, it's true. But how good could buying shoes really be? Pretty darn good, it seems. Jeremy took me through a series of "activities" to determine the best fit for me. We tried on five different shoes before I settled one. He was genuinely concerned with helping me find the right shoe rather than steering me towards something way expensive (although it wound up that the shoe I got - with the help of the speedy semite - was one of the pricier ones). Jeremy measured my feet, watched me run up and down the block, and steered me towards a shoe that gives me the support my feeties need and are way comfy, too. This has been my go-to store for several years now! I am always really happy with the shoes the salespeople recommend to me. I just had to buy two more pairs for an upcoming half marathon. I especially love their Personal Rewards program -you get credit for every dollar you spend, so I recently saved $60 on my purchase. Awesome! Came here the other day, partly due to Yelp, and partly due to an acquaintance having come here when she was getting ready for a marathon. I'm not a runner, but, I go to the gym almost daily (sometimes twice) and decided my gym shoes just aren't cutting it. Long story short, the guy I dealt with (Jordan, I think?) was really nice, very informative and took his time. It was nice to not feel rushed, and despite it being a small store, it seemed as though they were well staffed. Found some shoes I should be getting next weekend (yay!!)......but I'll admit, after trying those on, it was hard to convince myself to go work out. read more

I am a huge fan of Fleet Feet Sports! Now, I am not a very experienced runner, which was very evident by the fact I have never worn shoes that actually fit. That changed the moment I walked in to Fleet Feet. They measured my feet and analyzed my gait to find a selection of shoes that would support and protect my feet as I train for my first marathon. After trying on a few pairs, I found my new set of running shoes. My selection was not cheap by any means, but you truly get what you pay for when it comes to running shoes. What made Fleet Feet stand out was the customer service. Beyond the customized fitting, the associate walked me through all of the items I may need during my marathon training journey.
