There's no better place in Chicago to cop a new pair of sneakers or wait in line for the latest drop. They have great new drops and always have nice staff / quick service. The prices are affordable unlike other hype beast apps around the country. Don't get nervous HBs. Of course you can buy a $600 t shirt. But there's always something for the common man trying to stay fresh as well. Their personal ATS line rules and is constantly dropping new gear and color ways. Only giving them 1 star since 0 stars isn't an option. Bought a pair of shoes for almost $400 from them a couple months ago, went to return them THE VERY NEXT DAY and the clerks gave me a ridiculously hard time for wanting to return them, then said they don't do refunds but they'd give me store credit - fine, whatever. My wife went to redeem it today, and the clerks literally laughed in her face accusing her of making it up and refusing to redeem it. These guys essentially robbed me. They sold me shoes online that they didn't even have in the store! I placed an order on Thursday for the Vans Vault Checkered navy/white blue slip ons size 7 in women's, that also come in black/white and red/white. Check out was super easy and quick. Since I live in the Chicagoland area, I chose pick up in store, an excuse to make a trip out into the city from the suburbs. Fast forward to Saturday, I make the trip out to the city to pick up my shoes. After I was handed my shoes, I sat down to make sure they were the right shoes and that they fit me correctly. I open the box and they're the black/white ones. Sure no problem, a little annoying but no problem none the less. I let an employee know that these weren't the shoes I ordered and he went to the back to go get the right ones. He comes back about 5 minutes later and says that he has to go the office to go get them (outside of the store somewhere). After 10 minutes of waiting more, he finally comes back into the store and quickly goes to the back which takes another 2-3 minutes of waiting and finally comes back out to tell me that they don't have the shoe I need in the size I payed for. He continues with "we have it in a men's 7 - a woman's 8.5" like ok?????? Why even mention a size that I didn't order? Mind you this is 3 sizes too big for me! I ordered a women's 7! They oversold me a shoe that was not in their possession and that is extremely unprofessional. How did they know I wasn't traveling from somewhere further to pick them up?! They did give me a refund and told me to keep checking back for the shoe. HA! I looked at the guy and laughed in his face because last time I checked, I purchased them and they didn't even actually have them so how was I supposed to know if they even truly had them?! Needless to say, I left the store and immediately went online to another retailer and purchased the shoes for cheaper AND free express shipping. Also their return policy seems very greedy - you can only return for store credit? I get a company wanting to make money but that just seems like greedy practice to me. read more

Great shoes, horrible service. My boyfriend and I visited the store last week and he asked one of the employees what his favorite shoes in the store were, the employee, who was sitting on the window ledge, continued to sit and didn't get up to help us and replied, the ones on my feet, referencing his beat up Vans. The other employees seemed to care more about the people hanging out in the store, not customers interested in their shoes. We did end up buying shoes and we love them. Eh. That's the feeling i have every time i leave St. Alfred's. I've probably walked through at least a dozen times, and their selection is not bad by any means, but there is no shoe that is calling me to take them home. Still have yet to make a purchase there. And when I'm in there i sometimes feel that the guy behind the counter feels the same way as i do. Just doesn't really seem to care to much about anything, or maybe he knows that he's got the same stuff as a half dozen other places within a short walk. It's a shame. Fly. No other word for it but fly. Saint Alfred is one of those very rare streetwear shops--like Concept in Boston--that carries the most exceptional, limited, and rare designers and editions. Years back Vogue magazine did a story on Supreme--the NYC skateboard shop--and compared it to Chanel in how it has won the hearts and minds of its core customers and that same paradigm would apply to Saint Alfred, too. You'll find your expected stuff from adidas, Stüssy, Nike, Diamond Supply, and the like here but also things like the ultra-lux Japanese streetwear brand Visvim. They care more about customer service than any shoe store in the city. Sure, they've got a pimp shoe collection, but Saint Alfred puts as much on experience as they do on style. I purchased a pair of boots in early October. Put them away for a couple of months, and whipped them out for the first snow fall. When water started seeping in through the soles, I got pretty ticked and decided to bring them back to the store. They were more than happy to refund the defective purchase, even months after the fact. Shotty service isn't their game, if something's awry their going to make it right. The Experience: I first discovered St Alfred's when I was walking the streets of Wicker park. It was like my first time actually exploring the neighborhood itself. (I want to say 3 yrs ago.) My first impression of this place was pretty good. I noticed they had a lot of exclusive items. At times it would be those same items that would be pretty hard to find at any regular local shop or any respected internet clothing store. The bad thing I have to say about this place is that you have to be on top of your feet. When they push out new stuff they'll tend to run out of your size very quickly. I want to say about 80 percent of the time. I would recommend signing up for their email updates about up and coming products to prevent that outcome. The prices here could range from reasonable to jaw dropping. But I guess when you're bringing in exclusive imports from Japan; you're going to have to charge a certain price to profit. Ranging the sneaker, hat, and tee Selection. 1-5 Sneakers = 4 ( I have no idea why they don't sell Supra here.) Graphic Tees = 3 1/2 Hats/Baseball Caps = 3 (They should consider bringing in some vintage snapback hats.) The Staff: I actually get along with the staff here. Overall they're professional and enthusiastic. The good thing about the employees here is that they are actually willing assist you or will give you some insight about certain products. Chicago now has a spot that is comparable to both coasts in LA and NYC who have dominated the street fashion culture. The hometown spin on the apparel is a nice change of pace (gotta love da Bears couture) for folks looking for something fresh and unique while supporting our home team. From streetwear heavy hitter brands the hundreds, dqm, huf (&more) and crooks to upper echelon threads like original fake, NSW, and their in-house label, that is just the tip of the iceberg. Its walls are adorned with limited edt sneaks from classics Nike, adidas, clarks, and vans to up and comers like generic surplus and the connoisseur gentleman brand visvim. It doesn't stop there. There are fresh new eras that can't stay on the shelf, limited kaws/of fake vinyls and collectibles, TH accessorie and phoenix eyewear, shwood sunglasses, and classic kicks to oogle. This place is cool, we stopped in to buy a gift, they have some cool shoes that you wouldn't normally see in dept stores. I'm a sucker for small shops like this! The staff is friendly and always willing to help. So it makes my shopping experience both easier and less of an anxiety attack like the ones I get from department stores. The are on social media like instagram and twitter and constantly update the accounts too. The fear of missing out on an awesome drop or STA staple is non- existent. On top of the reasonable prices, they also have great sales on a large quantity of their merchandise. I've never left empty handed and I can't recall a time that I've had shoppers remorse from here. read more

So good, I stopped by here twice. Checked this out the first time before a Slum Village concert at the Double Door across the street. Chopped it up with one of the workers and talked about life, kicks, and Hawaii. They promptly invited us back the next day to watch the World Cup final at the Six Points pop up shop next door. We agreed and found our way back the next afternoon. The fact that they have this pop up, in addition to the shop next door is amazing to me. I'm a fan and a frequent shopper of the Kicks/HI shop in Hawaii (of which STA is a sister store), and the vibe is very much the same. Cool people, dope product, and a vibe that is consistent with the Kicks/HI Aloha Spirit. Chicago, you're hella lucky to have this spot in your city. STA All Day. read more

The thing that stands out the most is customer service here. Other boutique stores I've been to aren't as nice as these guys are. They always great everyone and make the effort give you service. It's so easy to say "Hello" so I don't know why everyone doesn't do it. At times they look like a deer in headlights because it's out of the particular associate's element but like I said its the effort that counts here.These guys have a good network so they get the most exposure out of any stores like it. Another thing that puts these guys at the top is their sales, usually it's rare to find a sale in these kind of stores but so far all 3 times I've been here they have something going on. There's not enough time in the day to say all the great things St. Alfred has to offer. They have such a huge selection of sneakers, hats, and tees and accessories that can satisfy any shopper. Their urban-wear is sick. They have some of the most creative and original designs ever. The quality of their clothing is great and I always get compliments on the shirt designs. They also carry some very unique and hard to find brands, styles and makes. I have seen all kinds of people wearing their clothes from celebrities to skateboarders to hipsters to businessmen. Been shopping at STA for damn near a decade and occasionally pulled into bizarre hangs with multiple generations of employees and I don't have anything to say except that they hold crazy exclusives, dope collaborations and the people running the shop can also be seen running the streets in the realest way. Shouts to the homie who cut me a discount on the Hundreds wallet mad years ago and the manager Nori is a national treasure. Chicago is a place where people know how to put themselves together in a serious way, and St. Alfred is one of the best places in the city to get phresh, fix your lips to say otherwise and you can catch all fades. read more

I have been shopping at St. Alfred since they opened in the mid 2000's. My favorite memory is Krabby hooking me up on a pair of Kashima Antler 360's when I was in high school; always appreciated his customer service and overall demeanor. Some of the newer staff are consistently rude (one gentleman was particularly rude to me when I informed him that he brought out he wrong product for me), but not every shop is as focused on customer service, and people have their bad days I guess. This spot is my mecca for street wear and shoes. They always have a tight selection of high end Japanese brands from Neighborhood to Wtaps. They have occasional releases like the Yeezys. Place is clean, simple, organized and well kept. I've been coming here since 2004. The customer service is excellent, they know their knowledge on street wear. First off, definitely awesome pricing for a premium shoe. Was on sale for about 25% off the retail price. I really wanted the pair and asked if they'd do phone orders. They do. They also accept PayPal BUT charge you back the 4% fee. I have not seen this in retailers before. Direct eBay purchases sure, but not from a reputable actual retail store. So, okay, fine, I'll pay the 4%, it's still cheaper than the retail price. Shipping was on the high side too, $17. Okay, sure. It's not like you're given a choice. 1 full day after, a tracking number is sent. Package is sent via FedEx ground. I guess I expected more than a ground service after paying $17. No big deal, I'll still get the shoe cheaper than retail price. Just a heads up for people buying via PayPal. Be prepared to pay the PayPal fees and steep shipping costs. read more
