Their inventory is better than other stores I go to. This is organized, spacious and clean. Service is great too, staff always willing to help and friendly. And if your size isn't available, they are happy to help you order it. The one down side is that with the store being so large, it can sometimes be hard to find an associate when needed. Store is currently allowing in store shopping with safety precautions and social distancing. But I prefer to online shop at DSW but when I do go into the store, everyone is friendly, always willing to help and they act like they actaully enjoy their jobs. Decent prices. Great selection for adults but I give it 4 stars because the selection for boys tennis shoes are limited and I ususally end up shopping somewhere else for my son. read more

I tried to return a pair of shoes that I purchased on 3/11/2024. When I tried to return them to the Lakeview store, (Chicago) Courtney the store manager, did not want to help me out. She and the other male employee who has black curly hair refused to help me out and dismissed me. Courtney said, "We cannot help you out. You cannot exchange the shoes. Sorry" in a VERY RUDE manner. Just to let you know that I did not have a good experience with your employees. This made me feel very uncomfortable dealing with the DSW employees at the Lakeview store. Especially when there were other customers waiting in line. I felt very embarrassed. This happened on 5:35 pm Sunday, 7/14/2024. Joseph searched on the DSW website, it says that "DSW accepts returns after 90 days with a receipt of shipping invoice for a merchandise credit. This applies regardless of the original payment method." I have been a DSW customer for some time. I love the store, the products that DSW sells. Check the shoe tags for the correct width! I tried on an 8.5 Nike running shoe and told the sales associate I'd take it. For security purposes, they keep the right shoe in the back. I was given an 8.5 wide. I didn't use it often, but when I did, my ankle was bothering me. By the time I realized they had given me the wrong width for one of the shoes, 60 days had already passed. I called the store, and the supervisor said, "Bring it in, and we'll make it right." When I got there, someone else said there was nothing that could be done. We likely would have bought 2x what we did, but we couldn't take the holly-jolly October bullshit anymore, so we left. Whatever corporate directive instructed you to do this is hugely flawed. My mom and I came in recently to shop for shoes and had a really mixed experience at this DSW. We were trying on different pairs near the end of an aisle that wasn't busy--no one needed to pass through, and we weren't blocking any major walkway. Totally normal shopping experience, right? We had a few shoeboxes out while trying on shoes and deciding what to purchase. One of the employees, a young woman (I wish I had caught her name), was incredibly helpful, kind, and patient. Her customer service was truly excellent, and she made us feel welcomed and taken care of. Then another male employee came over and told us to move the boxes because they were in the aisle. Mind you, we were in a very quiet part of the store, and no one was around. She even looked surprised and a little confused by his comment, but started helping us tidy the boxes anyway. About 30 minutes later, we laid out the boxes to finalize our choices--again, with no one around us--he returned and told us to "move to one side" for safety reasons. When I asked why, he said something about how "if there was a fire" we could be blocking the firefighters, which didn't make much sense since we weren't even near an exit aisle and mind you there are at least 20 isles with barely any customers. It felt like he was just trying to assert authority for no real reason multiple times. When my mom told him she felt like he was harassing us, he laughed. Like actually laughed, as if our concerns didn't matter at all. That was the last straw. It was rude, unprofessional, and honestly just disappointing. My mom was very upset rightfully and even the manager at the time was not willing to listen to the upset customer. Just poor customer service on this end. I really wanted the pairs of shoes but how can I buy the shoes after this experience? I can't show support with employees who are disrespectful. DSW, please take notes from the amazing woman working that day--she is the kind of employee that keeps customers coming back. I went to the DSW on Clark and Halsted a few weeks ago to pick up some new boots. They didn't have my size, so the employee who was helping me offered to order them online to be delivered to my apartment. He also offered to have them sent directly to the store (this is important to note), but I decided I didn't want to make the trip. 2 days later, I got an email saying they attempted a deliver while I was out working. No big deal, I would be home the next day. Well, apparently it would become an issue because they "attempted delivery" the next two days. Did I get notified they were failed attempts? Of course not. After a few days of wondering where my boots were, I checked the tracking, and it said there was some kind of error and I needed to contact them or the boots would be sent back. I called, and at first I got AI who sent me in loops. I tried going in to the store I ordered from, but the employee told me he couldn't help and told me to call customer service. Big help there. I called again, finally got through to a human, and the agent who "helped" me seemed to just want to get me off the phone. He couldn't tell me what the error was, said the shipper had an issue with the delivery, couldn't tell me who the shipper was, then gave me a fake phone number to call. I tried chatting instead, but the agent said he couldn't help me until after the estimated delivery date of February 15th...even though the tracking said I needed to contact them. Well, February 13th rolled around - two days before the supposed delivery date, and guess what? My boots got sent back to DSW. So after all that trouble, I didn't even get my boots. I've waited several days, and I still don't have a refund. I just chatted with them again telling them as much, and now they're claiming they can't send a replacement to the store I ordered from despite that being an option when I ordered them. I'm convinced these customer service agents are third party and don't have a clue what they're doing. They supposedly issued a refund, but I just wanted my boots. No offer to give me a coupon for my troubles or anything. After now FIVE DSW employees giving me zero solutions to this problem, they have lost a loyal customer forever. I'm buying my boots elsewhere now. Good riddance. read more

Beware of sale signage. Either the employees screw up the placement of sale signs near display shoes and then stack the entire stock below them, or dumb customers move around the sale signs. Either way, I have, on many occasions at this location been surprised at the register to find out that the shoes I'm buying are $20-50 more than I expect. When I point out the sale signs (which, BTW are not obviously incorrect- for example, Reebok pnk/gry as the description for pink and grey Reeboks), the staff just chuckles nervously and offers $5 off. I always end up walking out of here because they can't get it right. I shouldn't have to bring a magnifying glass to verify the SKU for shoes displayed and piled up below a sign with basically the exact description. Also, I've come back many times a few hours later to see if the staff has fixed the signs. They never do. They just leave them and continue gossiping behind the counter. Shady practices. Just left this location very unsatisfied. My wife picked up a shoe that was marked on sale for 59.99 with org price of 79.99. After being told it was in the system for original price the cashier requested a price check assist. Another worker likely the manager came up and told us the signing had been move from another shoe so the price is 79.00. This was untrue as the reduced price sign has the shoe's description listed on it. I informed the manager the men's version of the same shoe was marked down the same discount 59.99. He tells me the shoe is different and I am mistaken in thinking the same shoe in in fact the same. Meanwhile, I different worker unaware that me and my wife were together walks up and says I'm sorry boss I forgot to change the sign for the mens shoe. He gestures to him to hush. Smh." I was ordering shoes on their website and once I checked the payment method the address was filled up and confirmed automatically. Since it was the wrong address I sent them an email and asked to cancel it or to change the address for delivery. 12 hours later they responded they can cancel it. It's a mini-Zappos in a basement. I usually poo-poo these kind of places since you serve-yourself...and Robert does not do Payless. But the store is well laid out and clean. It's built for efficiency and keeping costs low. Even Payless has better interiors, but this store rocks. DSW has a great selection of men's footware--everything from sandals to Ferragamo knockoffs. Don't visit and expect Prada or Gucci. I bought a decent pair of Tommy Hilfiger/Hilfinger/Overthehillfinger/whatever. The staff here was really nice. Nice in that, "I honestly care about you" way--and that's more caring than most of the stores in the area care to care. Even late day on a Sunday, one of the floor guys was super pleasant to me. The cashier--an Asian gal--made me smile, and she signed me up for the loyalty program in a jiffy. I'll be back. read more

This location has the friendliest sales associates. I was looking for random things, and one associate approached to me and talked to me about the clearance sale. As a regular, I'm already aware of this. However, she was being attentive and welcoming. At the cash wrap, the cashiers were taking lots of returns and didn't roll their eyes or made any sarcastic comments. I understand in retail, having returns and taking back merchandize are just routine. It hurts the store sales, but what can you do? Everyone was professional and helpful. The shoe selection was great! Shopped here 5-8-21 from 4-4:30pm A female caucasian worker on the sales floor kept following us and watching us the entire time. When I calmly confronted her she said she was new and wanted to know if we needed help. The entire time she did not ask if we needed help. I will start off by saying that the selection here is great. The prices are generally pretty reasonable (or the shoes are long lasting. Unfortunately, their staff is rude, and is just horribly unhelpful. I personally was taken care of by a woman named Jaelynn, and she was... not ideal for a customer representative. This location is decent. I've gotten four pairs of shoes here in the past year. I've usually just gone in on a general browse mission and been able to find some kind of style that suits my fancy. Was also able to buy the boy some nice Nike's in his fav color as well I think service is satisfactory - I'm usually asked if I need assistance with anything. I did go towards the tail end of summer looking for an everyday comfort sandal and had some trouble securing a 7.5. Sizes were wiped out. My previous impressions of this place weren't great, hence the reason why I never go in here. Warehouse stores give me a headache, and the idea of having to deal with a shoe warehouse on a Saturday morning made me want to gouge my eyes out. Maybe they're not as busy since one of the anchor stores in this development closed. Maybe I just happened to come at an off time. I really don't know and don't care, because somehow the stars aligned and I had a great experience here. I had an idea in my head of what kind of shoe I wanted, and I found it pretty easily but wasn't sure about the fit. I tried some others on, and as I stood in the aisle considering my options an employee came over and asked me if I needed help. Um, that's never happened to me at DSW... I looked around, wondering if I'd fallen down the escalator and hit my head, because surely I must be hallucinating. But I wasn't. The girl who helped me was friendly, helpful, and brutally honest - all the things I love in an employee. She gave me a first hand account of how well some of the shoes fit and held up, and a random customer walking by overheard us and backed up what she was saying. She had me try on different sizes of the shoe I loved to compare fits. She was so beyond helpful I wanted to hug her when I was done. I swear - she was more helpful than the clown I dealt with at the Nordstrom shoe department two days ago. That's saying a lot. When I headed to the register, there were... *gasp* ...no lines? HOW COULD THIS BE? I was checked out right away by an equally friendly employee! Love it! All in all, totally not the nightmare experience I was expecting. Let me proclaim my love for shoes! I have an average sized foot somewhere between a 7, 7.5, and 8, depending on the style of shoe and how many socks I will need to be wearing to stay warm. I also, love and adore the Rocket Dog brand. They make boots, dress shoes, and canvas sneakers. Every single pair I own from my brown fuzzy boots, to my silver double buckle dress shoes, I have found here at DSW, and for at least half off the retail price. Also, customer service at this store is pretty darn good. I'm always asked by a sales associate if (s)he can help me find what I'm looking for and my usual response is show me your Rocket Dogs! Also, when I bought my boots I asked if they had any more cans of that spray to keep boots waterproofed so the leather will last longer and the guy at the check out counter said all top secret like, " I have only one can left, I'll let you have it, if you keep it on the DL." Overwhelming! We were greeted immediately upon entering. Truly a plus. The salesman informed me of the current sale and offered to sign me up for their frequent buyers club so that I could save time at the register and receive points immediately. This store is pretty well organized, with selections galore. I really liked their handbags and hosiery. They also carry a huge selection of Born Shoes which I personally believe are the most comfortable sandals in the world. Prices are moderate. They aren't super discounted; more like 25-30% off the manufacturer's suggested price. I think that I could have easily spent a fortune in here if I were by myself. I come here looking for something specific and then end up leaving with shoes that I didn't need. After walking the multitudes of of aisles , my eyes roll back into my head and I feel a shoe overdose coming on. I grab the coolest pair I can find and run for the checkout. If I am am lucky, I will escape with only one pair but that takes a great deal of willpower. Some people enjoy the pampering that takes place at shoe stores, but I'll never be comfortable with someone putting shoes on my feet and watching me walk around in them. Hey, do I look good in these? Should I set up some cameras in my house so you can watch me walk around in them in the future? The more relaxed approach to shoe shopping at DSW has always appealed to me. You're left to your own shopping devices, but if you need an associate, they're never too far away. There are a ton of shoes, including some pretty solid brands (Johnston & Murphy, Cole Haan, Merrell), and more than a few finds. I've come away from here with sneakers, boots, and dress shoes. It should also be mentioned that this location is clean and very well organized. For their prices, that's saying a lot. Especially when you put it up next to a Nordstrom Rack where you'll find a great shoe (emphasis on the singular, because its companion is at the bottom of a mountain of footwear). read more

Shopping at this place is only advantageous if you avoid the "help" and go for running shoes or simple shoes with low manufacturing costs. Anything else is just as pricey as any other more upscale place you might go for shoes. In my case, I went for work boots and payed the same as I would in a redwing store. Additionally the floor staff had no idea what a carbon fiber or composite toe was, so I had to search through all their boots to find only one pair that'd be a decent winter work boot. Finally at the register, I was told I would get $10 off my boots if I signed up for their email list, which I agreed to in order to make the trip worth it. Of course there was no $10 off my boots. After questioning the clerk, she said she misspoke and that my $10 would come off my next purchase. What a shit show! I don't appreciate being misled at the register either. Ultimately it's a series of minor inconveniences, but it's worth noting this place is a waste of time for decent shoes. Only go here to save cash if you're buying flimsy shitty shoes. I go through my phases with DSW...sometimes I'll go in and come out with both arms loaded and other times I will come out wondering what I need to do in order to spend my money! For the most part DSW has been kind to me. Sigh...those wedge sandals I got last summer in both black and brown. I seem to get coupons all the time in the mail for $5 or $10 off; but that's probably because I shop there. A lot. The prices are all over the place. You can get a decent pair of inexpensive shoes or a supr nice pair of high end shoes. And their sale section is almost always fantastic. I ended up found 3 pair of shoes in the sale section for my wedding...because they were in the sale section (and on super-super sale), I was able to buy all three pair and decide later what pair I liked best. read more

One of my secretly favorite things in life is to wander into this store and look at all the shoes and feel sad that I mostly can't afford to buy all the things I want. It turns out that I have expensive taste :-( Other than that, I can always find something nice in my price range. They have a lot of choices and their clearance section is marvelous. I usually end up having to make the difficult choice of between which of the beautiful shoes that I really want to buy. The store is actually pretty clean most of the time--I've been to other shoe stores where it seems too disorganized. The staff is a little distant--they always seem to check with me when I first walk in, but when I have a question, I can *never* find anyone--it's odd. Also--I rarely plug things like this, but I really do love their rewards program. They just randomly send you coupons ALL THE TIME.
