John had been in hospitals for over four months with only two weeks at home. He went in for a day surgery and ended up with a hematoma , then developed a pressure wound on his heel that caused Osteomyletis and ended with a below the knee amputation. We need to have reliable care in order for my daughter to take me to my Dr. appointments and just have some relief for the 24 hour care he was needing. Unfortunately, the talk was was great but the follow through was not existent. We had one care giver come out for a visit, who was personable but not a good fit with my husband. Our second try never showed although we has a confirmation email from the office. We never received a call about the no show and when we called the office and asked to have Jeremy call, we never heard from anyone. Needless to say we needed reliability from this service and received none.

I chose Visiting Angels over Senior Corp because Angels was so much better about staying in contact with me and answering messages. I live 430 miles away from my mother, and I needed help that was going to answer messages promptly. Visiting Angels was terrific at that. As it turned out, but the time we scheduled the aide, mom was feeling much stronger and did not want the service. Dean Longo at the Norfolk office was unbelievably understanding and just phenomenal to work with. Compassionate and professional. I have Visiting Angels in my back pocket and will call them again at the drop of a hat.

A lot of your loved one's care has to do with you. Do you show up? Do you visit your loved one? I know not everyone can due to being remotely located. This facility loves my Mom and loves her well. They delight in getting her ready for a joyride (thanks Serea), and the staff are so engaged with mom they can't wait to tell my family and me what she's been up to (both good and bad). I have one of their fabulous nurses on text message and can get any information I need about Mom in an instant. They are so responsive and so loving. I highly recommend Grandview Gardens for your loved one's memory care needs and Redstone Village for assisted living. Some advice: be present if possible and be active in your loved one's care this goes a long way. Both Redstone Village proper and Grandview Gardens have kept mom happy and healthy for around 7 years! Thanks so much! This facility is clean and updated and full of activities but If your loved one doesn't want to participate, they willingly go the extra mile to ensure their needs are met, for example, making sandwiches for mom who slept through dinner and didn't eat. This is the type of facility you do not dread visiting. Please consider Redstone Village. It is an entire life span facility from freestanding homes where you have a beautiful view and can drive your car or golf cart to dining or exercise or swimming facilities to assisted living again with beautiful views, to memory care with ample activities, including day trips to local strawberry picking and restaurants to hospice. Redstone Village is the real deal and my family and I are so grateful Mom is enjoying her 88th year on the planet here. My family have visited other facilities in Madison county and mom lived in one for about a year. Redstone Village eclipses all of them in terms of compassionate care, consistent rule following and generally loving what they do. Almost no personnel turnover. For peace of mind do consider RV and GG.

I wanted a facility that offered both independent and assisted-living as well as a memory care unit to ensure that all my future needs would be adequately met. Redstone Village, nestled up on a hill surrounded by mature trees and beautiful gardens, has exceeded my expectations. The staff has been most helpful in guiding me throughout the process from my initial visit to moving in, which has made the entire move less stressful. I have found my neighbors to be very warm and welcoming. Daily opportunities from exercise to pleasant social events, good food and shopping close by makes for ideal senior living. SB

Staff has no clue about why they were there or what to do with them replying as always, "I am new." Insert eye roll. I told them not to put them back in Moms room as we need to be able to manage her clothing and keep it organized. Then I had to tell the staff to ask their boss Patrick what to do about it because it's not the first time it's happened to us and I'm 100 percent sure it's not the first time he has dealt with it. Next time I think I'll leave a trail of said clothing up and down the hallway. If the staff don't care, why should I? This place is awful!

People go to these facilities to have a peaceful, comfortable, safe, and secure end of life home. To uproot them with only a 30-day notice is cruel, but to uproot approximately 28 residents simultaneously, well that is more than the city and surrounding areas has the ability to take in elsewhere, and that's plain unethical. This was a nice place for us to live, but heartless and unethical actions like this to the community do not deserve any rewards.
