The oil light flickered on one night and turned out I'd leaked out three quarts of oil. I'd had it…read morechanged one or two thousand miles before, so this came as quite a shock. Well, even Toyotas start to break when they're 20 years old. After carefully weighing my options and being referred by Abdon Auto Repair, I decided to go with Bob Gagnon at Harbor Engine. While a diagnostic was initially quoted as costing a couple bucks, Bob was able to take a peek at no charge and determine what the source was. Turns out, the geniuses as Toyota put a rubber seal well behind the timing belt cover. Getting to it requires taking apart multitudinous parts. It doesn't help that in 20 years things get rusty, frozen, and otherwise stuck. Regarding the repair itself... Bob exceeded my expectations in the work he did. Not only did he replace the seals, but any other part he noticed was just starting to go. I also really value that he showed me the parts that were taken out, and showed me why it was replaced. You could definitely tell he's been at this gig a while and knows his stuff! Otherwise, no-frills, but when you're having rather an expensive engine repair done, "frills" are at the bottom of the list, assuming they even make it. The work I needed to be done was extensive, and it wasn't cheap. However, knowing what was done, and the care Bob took in making sure I wouldn't have to touch those parts for another 20 years made it well worth it.

I have a 2003 honda accord with 120k miles on it so i expect i'll need to have some maintenance done to the vehicle at times. However, when i pulled out of my parking spot one morning there was a huge oil spot underneath my car. Scary. I took the car in for a look. Within about 20 mins Tim had diagnosed the issue, assured me it wasn't that big of deal, and was able to provide me a quote on the service that was more than reasonable. I went to him thinking the worst and that i would be having to either replace the engine or get a new car. Due to my own travel i wasn't able to have my car worked on that week, but Tim was open to communicating with me via text message to set up an appointment to have my car serviced and he even provided a loaner vehicle. (I talk on the phone for a living so if i can do anything via text or email it's a huge bonus for me) Most importantly I felt like i could trust Tim. I hate going to a mechanic and they try take advantage of the fact i know nothing of vehicles and try to get you to pay for services that aren't necessary. I was completely prepared to have other services performed but Tim assured me that if i wasn't having issues with the vehicle they could probably wait and saved me some money in the end. He could have easily put some extra money in the shops pocket but instead he created a repeat customer.
