Opened with a sensational Onion Haystack, a unique dish that was aided by a pair of sauces, Chipotle ranch and buttermilk ranch. My burger was outstanding, The Classic, perfectly cooked and served on a delicious bun. I snagged some tasty sweet potato fries from my Way Better Half too! Coke products a plus too! We went to Flight Bar + Grill in Huxley, Iowa to celebrate a family birthday. It was a great experience. First, it was Fall graduation weekend at Iowa State University 8 miles up the road, so the place was packed. They told us we would have about an hour wait, but you could see the tickets were flying out of the kitchen, and that things were moving along nicely. We stopped in the bar for a drink, and I ordered a Manhattan up. It was very well made, and reasonably priced. In less than 45 minutes, we got our table. Flight has a variety of specialty smash burgers, and I chose the Crown Wagyu Burger. It's a double Wagyu patty smash burger with smoked gouda, hot pepper bacon jam, arugula, caramelized onion aioli + onion haystack. It was a fantastic burger, and the fries I had as a side were very nice too. The service was swift and friendly, and it was an overall great experience. The building itself is very clean With just the right lighting. It's got kind of an industrial look to it, and it is a nice space. It looked like there was a little banquet room off to the side for pre-scheduled gatherings. All in all, definitely two thumbs up for Flight! read more

Our server was nice and attentive. Gave recommendations too. We got seated right away. I've heard about this place and we didn't have plans, so although more than a drive than we usually take, it worked out. The decor and vibe is fun and neighborhood friendly. We ordered the tenderloin and split it with fries. A very crunchy and thick tenderloin. I wasn't impressed however with the breading though, zero flavor. So I just added some mustard. Loved how the fries were still super crispy and not all potatoe. The cheese squares/cubes were great. These our the best kind around and somewhat hard to find. I guess though with the name Flight, I was expecting flights such as flights for apps and meals and drinks. I think I saw just a few on the menu for drinks. And saw one hamburger mini "flight." That's it. I personally think they need to start doing more flights and take advantage of their name. We have been to flight a few times and always have a great experience. Great atmosphere, amazing cocktails, and pretty attentive service. This particular time we did feel a bit rushed out by our waitress. We were having a couple of drinks and she brought us the bill before asking if we wanted another, so they missed out there. The wrap was amazing, burger was awesome, but the we would not recommend the jalapeño popper egg rolls. It was just straight cream cheese with hardly anything else inside of them. We were not a fan! This time, my wife and our neighbor Joy ordered the Crispy Chicken Bacon Ranch Sandwich (see picture), John went for the Foundation (2023 Iowa Best Burger - see picture) and I went for the Fiesta Chicken Wrap (see picture). We really enjoyed all of the meals, including both the regular and sweet potato fries. My only complaint was the Ranch dressing my wife and I ordered for our fries - it was thinned way too much and was a near water consistency, so wouldn't stay on the fries very well. Came here off the recommendation of several others and it didn't disappoint! Atmosphere is modern brewery feel with lots of large tables, a bar, and patio. It's rare I want to try the majority of the menu but they had lots of great options and are best known for their burgers. We got chips and queso for the app and it was alright. I had the fiesta wrap and sweet potato fries. The wrap had great flavor and texture. Fries were good. My husband got the classic burger and said he enjoyed it a lot. The food at Flight is really good. However the service has been very subpar for us. The last time we went it took 75 minutes to get our food. The waitress offered to have us pay for an appetizer while we waited and that was all that was done to rectify the situation (no fault on her). I'm not usually one to ask for free stuff but it seems silly that we would have to pay extra while hungry because the kitchen was slow. We have decided to take a break from Flight due to this experience but we will probably be back again, for the food. read more

Flight was recommended by a co-worker. Upon first assessment- the theme is cool & it seems like your typical brewery/restaurant. Their mobile ordering system is convenient but I could see this being an issue with older folks with different type of cell phones, I.e- not having smart phones. Wow! Delicious food and awesome service. I got the Ceasar salad ($11) and added breaded chicken ($3), and it was perfect! My mother got a burger ($14) and she raved about it. I have been here many times now, and it is slowly beating out every restaurant in Huxley/Slater. We absolutely love their servers, their food are impeccable & I have yet to try something I do not like. The restaurant is gorgeous & very new & I look forward to eating there in the summer also. They have wonderful food selection & fun new drinks always. I would recommend this place to everyone as it truly is quite the experience. Please note I still submitted as a 5 Star, as the employees went above & beyond to ensure this didn't alter our experience in any way: I think the only negative (and this is coming from a fellow server) is the inability to order basic drinks in their app. It makes it harder for us to order on our own (which is what we are asked to do) and if I wanted to order a cosmo or espresso martini, I would be massively undercharged. I walked straight to the bar to have them order me a shot & add the upcharges to make the drink. However, I think it would be nice if it was possible to add basics to the menu as well. It's nice being able to order your own drinks on your own time & have a tab going. Veterans Day was Saturday.. I was looking for a place that had a Vets offer.. So glad I found this place.. I live in Ankeny but wife works in Ames.. her crew had burgers here and they said they were tip top.. I hit the Veterans Day Buffet and was greater by an enthusiastic little guy who pointed out the location of food and seating options.. my guess he was owners kid. Great spread and self serve.. sausage and bacon galore.. this Vet really appreciates what this place of business did that they didn't have to. They even encouraged Vets to bring their families for free too. That hardly ever happens. Maybe next year my family can find some time to come with.. great place and nice ambiance.. I can not say enough good about this place, I really enjoyed using the online ordering through our phone. Of course the waitress was willing to help if needed. They made it super easy to use and it was really nice to see options with my meal that I would not of thought of doing. We really enjoyed the tenderloin and the burger as they both had a little spin on them that really made it awesome. They had a nice selection of beers on tap and a patio area for more activities. My Dad and I recently stopped in the Flight for Dinner. My Brother told me about it as a new and interesting restaurant in Huxley. The name of this establishment has an an airplane motif and a golf simulator lounge in an adjacent room. In my opinion indicates a "creation in progress". I'll be back, as I think this place has potential. OPPORTUNITIES Coming and Going. Actually accessing Flight is somewhat confusing, as we overshot the place the first time and then figured out that you had to cut through the nearby store to get to their parking lot. After we finished, I drove out the nearest exit and ended up on a road that dead ended into a church. Bar Service Had Attitude -. When Dad and I came in, the place was hopping, with every seat full except a few places at the bar. That's where we sat, until a booth later came open. When we asked for a menu and what beers were available, we were directed to the QR Code without further comment or assistance. After figuring that out, as my 93 year-old Dad isn't smart phone saavy, we couldn't get the guy's attention for the life of us. I finally had to personally flag him down (at the food window) for our meal drink orders. Once there, I was also able to snag one of the paper menus that didn't seem to be available at our seats. Spotty Table Service - Our food order that we finally made at the bar was seamlessly transferred over. But after the food was delivered, folks were busy, and I had to go up front to get the silverware myself. Finding the wait person to pay the bill was also challenging. Menu/Food - This is one of the few places I've been that there are more draft beers available than menu items, which I found limiting. My burger sliders were way overcooked. COMPLIMENTS Dad's burger was delicious and we both enjoyed our fries. Our waitresses were friendly, hard working and accommodating. Cool Flight SWAG was available I found that the actual Dining Room/Bar space was nicely laid out and comfortable. It looks like in warmer whether, patio seating is available. read more

Better than average fast food but that's where it stops. My partners chicken sandwich was average at best and her salad was pretty good but for a $3 up charge over fries it was laughable. Speaking of fries, they were again of the breaded/sprayed with starch type that are greasy and an automatic failure. The margarita served was maybe a half ounce pour at best. I had dined in there twice and was less than impressed. The other day I placed an order to go. I sat there for a good 44 minutes before my food arrived. Now I live about 3 minutes from there. When I got home the food was horrible. The fries were lukewarm at best, soggy and so much salt they were pretty much inedible. The bun on the sandwich was a big sloppy mess and the bacon was so undercooked I had to remove it. No way I'll eat there again. Was very disappointed in the service yesterday. There were at least 7 servers plus bartender at about 4:30 pm on Dec 9, 2023. My partner and I knew about Iowa's Best Burger Award Winning Foundation Burger and were very excited about trying it there. We ordered one to split with fries (it is huge, we weren't that hungry), and I simply asked if the kitchen could cut it in half before sending it out. The waitress rudely replied "We don't do that". I gave her a quizzical look and then asked for something sharper than the butter knife in the silverware wrap in order to do it myself. We also ordered several cocktails. Order comes out in a decent amount of time, and again a I ask for something like a steak knife to cut it. She went back to the kitchen, which I could see quite clearly as we were seated at the high top table nearest to it. The kitchen staff laughed her off, said "we aren't a steakhouse" and said there was nothing sharper to cut the sandwich with. I then replied "so you are telling me, u cut all your vegetables and bread with this?", while holding up the butter knife. The bartender overheard this and could tell I was annoyed. She had a ball cap on, and quickly sprang in to action. Threw some rubber gloves on, grabbed the plate, and said "no problem, I can make this happen". She went back to the kitchen and returned within about 15 seconds, burger cleanly cut in half looking appetizing as ever. The kitchen staff was saying things to her and weren't happy with her, but she knew about what real customer service was. I wish I would have caught her name, but she was working during that time and had a ball cap on. I guess I am more of a person who figures out problems instead of accepting the status quo, which ball cap girl did. I think there needs to be a conversation with that whole group because there was a lot of other Tom foolery going on as well right before the owner showed up yesterday. read more

I had the pork tenderloin with a side salad that was phenomenal.
