Tried this place when we went for my first skydiving experience. We did not expect much, given that it is a restaurant attached to the dove center. We were pleasantly wrong. My husband had the DB Cooper burger - big,juicy, perfectly cooked. Dad's portobello panino was stuffed with grilled mushrooms with just the right seasoning. My Canopy Wrap was overstuffed with fresh chicken and crunchy lettuce on the right proportions to be satisfying. This place is worth a visit, even if you are not skydiving. read more

I came here on Sunday with family for lunch. As it was Mother's Day the place was very busy, but our food still came out quick and it was delicious. We ordered chips and salsa and onion rings for an appetizer - all of which is homemade. The salsa was so good we asked for some to go and were accommodated. Most of our party ordered burgers and all were cooked to perfection and delicious. For dessert we ordered and shared the dessert nachos....holy crap these are amazing! read more

First of all I love the atmosphere of this place and the food usually, but the service is absolutely terrible. Ask for Katelyn at lunch and you will be just fine. Upon arrival we waited about 5 minutes for a seeming to be lost woman shuffling for menus to greet us. My wife asked for a booth. We were sat where we waited 15 minutes for the server to acknowledge us and get a drink order. We then waited another 10 minutes for our water, my wife had a root beer. She then asked if we would like to order an appetizer. My wife said let's just put in our whole order now since we have already been waiting near 30 minutes to even get a soda. My wife ordered the wind propellers with sour cream, steak sauce, or honey mustard. We asked for all three on the side. The waitress Deena (whom was a complete train wreck.) said, "I wasn't aware it came with those sauces." Uh? Ok... I ordered tacos being taco Tuesday, my wife ordered the buffalo chicken sandwich as a wrap. (as stated in the menu it is hand Guinness battered and fried and any sandwich is available As a wrap.) As we were waiting we noticed all but one employee looked like they just rolled out of bed with wrinkled uniforms and hair a mess. The tables were filthy and just stayed piled with dirty dishes to look at. (more staff clearly is need to be on duty to maintain this restaurant?) another 20 minutes for the wind propellers that were just fried potatoes with shredded cheese, bacon, and green onion onion clearly not worth 10 bucks maybe $5.99. We finished our potatoes and waited and waited another 35 to 40 minutes when we noticed the party of ten getting all their food and we still had not gotten our simple wrap and tacos. We politely asked our server what was going on. She then told the bartender we were mad people got their food first. We were not mad at all Just curious to know where our food was. Finally, out comes my wife's wrap grilled and not fried like she wanted and ordered with my tacos nowhere to be found. My wife pregnant and hungry said last straw, we got up and left. In my opinion, as well known as this restaurant is and being on Chicago's best with people traveling great distances you would think after nearly 4 years of operation they would have gotten it together by now. Almost two hours and we had potatoes and a root beer. Amazing place but so unprofessional. The cook seating people? The bartender trying to resolve guest issues? I'm so confused...Also, there was a woman at a booth next to us seeming to be management loudly on the phone trying to book partys or something. Probably should be in an office for that. Just seemed particularly strange....Nobody wants to listen to your behind the scenes business while we are trying to have a nice lunch. We were heading home from vacation and finally found a hotel in the middle of nowhere. The desk clerk suggested the Flight Deck for supper and it was a great choice. We were hesitant at first because it was out in the middle of a corn field and had a gazillion cars out front. We went in and it was awesome!! There was live music, a girl singing in carol king/Nora Jones fashion, and there were people skydiving just outside the big windows. It was so much fun to watch. The food was great and when the waitress asked us where we were from, we explained we had been looking for a room for several miles when we found one and then this restaurant. She told the manager and they gave us a feee dessert! It was a great place with good pub food and great service! I would go back again if I was ever in the area! read more

I'm giving this place three stars only because I think it would be a fun place if you weren't planing to eat.. My husband and I went here on a Saturday night(with a reservation) and they were pretty busy. After we were seated we noticed most people already had there food so we had hope we wouldn't be there ALL night. We were wrong it took an hour for our appitzer of onion rings? After getting those another hour for our food which neither of us were pleased with, nothing I couldn't make at home really! I can understand it being a busy Saturday night but I've been much busier places and waited less for food I was actually happy with!! I think if your going for lunch or a dinner in a weeknight it might be worth a try I think the place has potential .. Maybe just an off night? read more

The Flight Deck Bar & Grille is a great restaurant/bar. They have a fantastic selection of both food and beers, good lunch specials, and a fun environment at night. Some of my favorite foods here are the D.B. Cooper Burger and the Canopy Wrap. The menu items are named after different skydiving traditions. Watching skydivers jump and land while enjoying great food. What more can you ask for. AWESOME! read more

Had dinner here with my lovely wife after watching the Christmas parade in Rochelle and had a wonderful meal. We have been there several times and the service lacked something to be desired. Not lacking anymore. This time the place was packed and a party was in another room and the service was great. There were enough servers to take care of both. Waited for 20 minutes to get helped. Waited for another 20 to just get drinks. My water had hair in it and was served the wrong drink after that. Our appetizer was never delivered. Food took too long. Terrible service. read more

Our waitress was quick on her feet, very bubbly, and made sure our meal was hot when we got it. We didn't wait long - maybe 20 minutes before it was ready, and she was on top of our refills. It's a bit pricey but it's good service. Would definitely go back. read more

The food was really good however, the service is awful. We arrived and waited at the bar while waiting for a seat. Two groups who arrived after us were seated before, we had to go claim a dirty table to get a seat. We then waited 30 minutes for a server after being passed by multiple waitresses. We were then given the wrong menus and waited an hour and a half for our food before we were told they did not have it. The manger was extremely gracious and said we would receive a discount, the only reason I gave them as many stars as I did. When we received our check we were confused by the total and when we asked, the server had said it had been taken off, The waitress took the credit card to pay & we questioned the manager, turns out nothing had been removed from the total and the waitress had lied. We then waited 20 minutes for the issue to be resolved, while three other families were experiencing a similar issue. It's such a neat place with such a great atmosphere, shame they can't have staff that is productive. read more

Made a reservation for Mother's Day on right around 10am. After talking to no less than 3 people, (reservations are apparently super complicated) I was told with confidence that 7pm was wide open, and it wouldn't be a problem. I get there a bit before 7, and the parking lot is suspiciously empty. So, I get out along we other the wife and kid, and lo and behold, there is a sign in the lobby that says "Closed for Mother's Day", and it said something about it being open for employees' family. I look at the girl mopping the floor, and I say, "you are closed?", and she says yes. I told her that I had made a reservation and that nobody had said a word about it. She just responded with the typical shrug and "sorry 'bout that". So it's frozen pizza tonight since there's not much to choose from when you think you have reservations and then find out that you don't at 7pm on a Sunday. Just another poor experience in a series of poor experiences from this restaurant. read more

The food is sometimes good, so is the service. The problem is - neither are consistent. Lunch usually has faster service than dinner. Dinner - we never go if we're in a hurry. The food usually makes up for service issues - but it's very up and down. Onion rings are always amazing - one of the best things they make. read more

I've been a patron of The Flight Deck since they opened (I work here in town). Frequently, we will get a group of folks together and head over since The FD has a great environment with great food. Whenever we have visitors, we take them here and they're always impressed with the atmosphere and quality of food. Lately, however, (I'm assuming due to the new chef) I have been less than pleased with some of the changes made to the menu. Some of the changes have been positive, i.e. the soups are AMAZING (try the chicken & dumpling or shrimp bisque!), but I've been met with mostly negative changes - namely in the sauces: For example, one of my coworkers frequently (several times/week) orders the Tuna Tataki salad, which is normally served with a ginger soy dressing. This week, however, it came out with a thicker dressing (think the consistency of ketchup) that tasted like a barbecue sauce with a teriyaki flavor. The texture was all wrong for a salad dressing and the overall flavor was terrible. What really made pushed this experience over the negative edge, was that when the chef came out to our table (assumingly to elicit praise), we informed her that we liked the old dressing better (not knowing that the new one was her homemade recipe), she was indignant and, quite-frankly, rude. Seriously, if looks could kill, I wouldn't be able to write this post. I just don't understand why she would come out looking for feedback and then not be able to take it if it wasn't positive. Please bring back the original dressing - it was delicious! My go-to order is the buffalo wings. I like them hot and in the past they have been the perfect blend of zesty, tangy, heat I've come to love from traditional buffalo wings. The last time I was there, the sauce was sweet and was more of a barbecue-like glaze. I was told that the chef ditched the old sauce for her own recipe. I would definitely consider her new sauce more of a barbecue and not a traditional wing sauce. It was OK, but after years of enjoying the traditional wing sauce, it was an unwelcome ketchup-based surprise. Another change that made me a little sad was that they no longer offer the barbecue chicken wrap or the filet sliders (now that I think of it, I don't think they have the pulled pork sliders either). Those were some of my favorite items and I'm bummed they're gone. Even with all of the issues we have had as of late, Katlyn and Zack were really receptive to our complaints and did their best to make sure that we left happy. I will continue to visit FD as I really enjoy the restaurant and the service, but until the old sauces make a comeback, I think I'll stick to the Jet Hots and pasta. read more

So I was in the Flight Deck tonight and was instantly greeted with a smile from the one and only Katelyn Glavac! Now she has always been my waitress every time I've gone in there but tonight she did something that I've notice other waitresses don't do as well at! Let me set the tone.... The place was a little crowded and very very loud, plus there was people moving all over the place. As she was taking my order she paid close attention and didn't get distracted by all the commotion, the bright neon yellow wig guy or the loudness of the establishment, she didn't even ask me to repeat myself. Katelyn Glavac had it right the first time! Her attention to the customer, warm smile and how she talks to you....just makes you feel right at home. She's top notch and does an excellent job of taking care of the customer. I can't talk enough about what an amazing woman you have working for you and hopefully you appreciate her as much as I do. I flew in to Rochelle airport (RPJ) from Madison WIsconsion tonight and had dinner with a friend. We sat outside on the patio and enjoyed a cold craft beer while watching skydivers land their parachutes just a short distance away. I ordered the steak and risotto special. The steak was cooked to perfection and the risotto was exceptional. The vegetables were not overcooked like is often the case at many restaurants. Our server was very friendly and fairly prompt with attending to us. The executive chef even stopped by our table to ask how we liked our food. Considering the price point I would say that this place hits it out of the park. If I lived nearby, I would most certainly be a regular at the Flight Deck Bar & Grill. My only complaint is that there was not a volleyball game to watch in what looked like a professional sand volleyball pit. I am certain to fly back here again sometime in the not to distant future. Next time I would most likely bring my kids along. read more

Was here about a year ago and I have to say I was not impressed with the food or the service. I will never forget the servers name. Kelsey. very rude little girl. Didn't see her this time. Phew...We were in the area, which we do not come often and my wife and I decided to give it another try. Thank God we did. This place is a gem. The service was unspeakably 100% better and the western mac and the spinach artichoke dip were to die for. Not only was Chelsea very prompt, she was also very friendly, and chipper. She explained the specials and soups without us having to ask. We were so pleased we called the General Manager Amanda over who was a pleasure to speak with and explained a lot about the facility and sky diving (that we will be back this summer for!) She even bought us a after dinner cocktail! This place is clean, upbeat, friendly and all around amazing! Highly recommended. We loved the fact that the whole staff looked like they loved what they were doing and having fun. We will be back for sure! read more
