Fantastic record store with outstanding staff and selection! About a month ago, Giulianno sold me an Audio Technica LP60X and did a great job explaining why this is a great turntable for the price range and what type of speakers I should buy to accompany it. When I was having trouble connecting the speakers to the turntable, he so kindly taught me how to connect them properly. Since then, I've been enjoying my turntable. My partner and I weren't expecting to do any record shopping one after in San Diego, but saw Flimzy's across the street from North Park brewery and decided to stop in. We were really glad we did, as she found some records that (while not technically being made at the moment) were still on the shelf here. Score! As I browsed through the store, Flimzy's prices seemed very fair--nothing priced at discogs levels (which is unfortunately becoming more and more common.) And the service at the checkout was pretty phenomenal. The cashier gave us both a little cookie to thank us for stopping in. How cute is that! read more

Stopped by here while visiting for the weekend. Was greeted immediately by an employee that turned out to be the owner. I spent some time digging through the bins and getting a feel for the shop. The selection was great and as out of towner I didn't experience any of the negativity that others reviews spoke of. When I found a few records I wanted to pick up the employee and I sparked up a quick conversation and He was great, friendly and appreciated that I stopped in. Don't let the negative reviews fool you. This was a great spot and I'm sure if I had been looking for something specific I'm sure I would've gotten the help I desired. Easily my favorite record store. Always stacked w my taste take that at your discretion lol. Owner knows so much about his collection and is good about recommending based off what you're buying. Fairly certain this is the only store I continuously have to hold back from buying more than I can afford, not that the prices are high but because I'm finding too many things I want. a lot of variety, hip hop, rap, punk rock, . Almost all the records were in alphabetical order and labels showing where they were, and also good music playing in the background. The service was very good, ask him where something were and he was nice and knew where everything was. The prices were pretty good for what I pick up, not over priced. I came in today to look for CDs. Selection was sparse, but I understand it is a record store. Overall average selection and average pricing. Nothing to write home about. The reason I won't be returning is because of the customer service. It doesn't seem like this guy wants to build any sort of community. I wonder if he wants any business at all. Clean ur front desk so customers can differentiate what is for sale and what's not, and understand that people need to pick up items to look at them and decide if they wanna buy them. Best record shop in town! This place has a wide selection of old and new vinyl as well as CDs and VHS tapes. I'd gladly enjoy giving Flimzy's my business any day of the week; even my teenage niece and nephew have been making the trip down from north county to shop here. I've also seen other reviews that mention the shop owner being rude, but that has never been my experience whatsoever. Ok shop. My biggest issue is that none of the new vinyl is in any kind of order. It's literally thrown in the crates with no regard for the alphabet. This is the first review I've ever written- that's how bad the experience was. The owner is a total jerk and clearly does not want to sell any records. I'm an avid record collector and came into the store with my cousin (who was just tagging along), we were looking around and my cousin showed me a patch, then put it exactly in spot it was on. We looked around the store for a bit looking at different items like shirts, etc. I then proceeded to search through the vocal jazz records hoping to find some Sammy Davis JR or something when the owner gets off of his seat and starts asking my cousin where he put the patch- assuming he had stolen it when it was in the same spot it was originally at. He then goes on to question me if I even knew what I was looking at, I answered "jazz" and he responded telling me that I was looking at vocal jazz/pop as if it wasn't marked on the box- total SNOB! He then asked me if I was going to buy anything and then I responded "not anymore!" and walked out (called him a loser on the way out under my breath, I wanna make sure he heard it) Hope this review reaches a lot of people as he does not deserve anyone's business. VINYL JUNKIES is the best record store in town! Lots of friendly staff and way better selection of most genres. read more

Enjoyed my visit, hope this store does well, but hope to see at some point: - Fewer dupes of the same ol everyday record store stuff (the Dan Fogelbergs, the Herb Alperts, the Neil Diamonds..) - Larger "new arrivals" section which I understand depends on people actually bringing in stuff to sell. - Curate and pare down the stock a little (or a lot)... Much of that stuff is going to sit in the bins for decades. I do appreciate the sizable "new vinyl" sections. Looking forward to seeing what "used, but actually interesting" stuff comes through soon. Today's vinyl consumers crave curation. We don't mind crate digging for cool finds, but we also don't want to go to a record store and crate dig through an entire store of dollar-bin quality titles. This was by far the worse experience I have ever had going anywhere let alone a place of business. My friend and I went to this establishment after brunch on my actual birthday on Thursday afternoon. We are both avid Vinyl collectors and also both local city folk. We grew up in San Diego and had commented how we have been wanting to check it out, and I was definitely in the mood to splurge considering it was my birthday. When we walked in there was a man behind the register and one other patron thumbing through the used section. No greeting and def not a welcome or shot out if we need any help finding something specific. My friend immediately found a couple patches he wanted to buy and I went straight to the new section of hip hop and R and B. After about 5 min of thumbing through and pulling 3 albums I wanted totaling over 130$ I didn't want the vinyl I pulled out to be strained by leaving them perpendicular so I temporarily put them horizontally back on the shelf to continue shopping. The man behind the desk came running over screaming at me at the top of his lungs. He assumed I was putting the records back in the wrong order. He screamed so loud at me that "this is why I don't want to let people in my store" and also screamed that I'm so disrespectful right in my face and when I looked at him his eyes had turned black almost like a demon. I told him I planned on buying the albums and it's my birthday he immediately lightened up and was like oh okay well I will give you a discount then. By then my friend was upset that I was being screamed out and treated so poorly that he came over and was like no we will be leaving this establishment with out contributing to any purchases. While my friend was politely putting away the albums in the proper alphabetical order, then man went back to screaming. He screamed that clearly we didn't own our own business and that he has put over 100,000 into his. I have been a business owner for 21 years and my friend recently started his own business and that is why we are able to shop for records on a Thursday afternoon. My friend said to watch how this guy speaks to people and the man screamed "or what". He followed us out of the store and tried to fight my friend. He screamed something about being a tough guy and to step up and fight. At this point I was literally in shock about this man's behavior. Business must not be going so well if he is scaring away all paying patrons. This man should not be in business and I will do whatever it takes to spread the word about the crazy person owning this shop in my city. He ruined my birthday as I couldn't get out of my mind, the mistreatment we endured before noon. If I could give him negative stars I wound. read more

Rude store owner, totally unwelcoming. He asked for my bag to be left up front which I obliged knowing it's standard mode of a procedure in a record store. I asked to leave it on the ground closer to the register as opposed to the end of the counter for fear that a passerby might snatch it (very close to the store entrance) only for him to say 'well now it's in my way'. so I just picked up and left.
