I'm giving this record store a 5 only because the owner is awesome! My friends and I were strolling NP and saw a guy with records so we searched for the nearest record store. The place is small. Records are broken down to genre. He may not have the best selection but you may find a gem or two. He also sells video games and accessories. The owner approached my friends and I about what he had in store and all his music interest. Off top super friendly!! He is very knowledgeable on different genres. Overall he was just all around Good Vibes and that's what would make me come back! read more

Not what I was expecting based on the reviews here. Drove out of my way to come down and check this place out. They do not have a great selection of punk and hardcore albums as advertised. Same old basic stuff that you'd find in any punk/rock shop in CA. The place itself gives off a very odd and uncomfortable vibe as well. Not sure that I'd ever buy anything from here. read more

Yesterday was my first time visiting Red Brontasaurus and, not knowing what to expect, I was so impressed with the wide variety of video games, gaming equipment, records, and movies available. The shop has a vintage feel and I loved the layout. I met Davey, one of the coolest store managers I've met in years. He is down to earth and gave me a very fair trade for the games and DVDs I brought in. The customers shopping around were friendly, too. Can't wait to go back - highly recommend! read more

Got a bunch of records from here including the beegees, Elvis, the supremes, etc! They had a lot of older artists which was cool. I got them for decent prices too ranging from $5-10. Not too many modern artists though if that's what you're mainly looking for! read more

"I ate vinyl records there with avocado toast with a side of Arianne Grande" They seriously have Arriana Grande's "double album" as my husband joked, "what was it four songs" well yeah it was. LOL This place smells like butt crack, pot smoke and stale cigarettes along with pungent Hanes underwear from The Eagle. They have games here, they had a couple of vinyl records that I swear as a 50+'er may have repurchased my own sh*t from that horrible divorce. I liked those young men behind the counter, I will be back but you aholes better resell me my "Return to Forever" LP's that probably got resold over and over again back to me. This place is NO "Off the Record" but I admire their spirit and will definitely be back. Seriously, nice guys working there, very friendly that's about it. read more

Love this shop, it's selection, and it's participation in the community. By far and away the best spot for punk and hardcore vinyl, a rarity at most other spots in the city. Prices are fair, they're open to trade in, and generally just really kind with their time. read more

This a great store. I went in looking for retro games, and purchased Columns 3 for the Genesis and a Sega Master System control stick. On top of that Revenge of the Nerds 3 and 4 on DVD. They have many NES, SNES, and Genesis games. There's even games for other retro systems like Sega CD, PS1, and more. Plus they sell some odd retro peripherals like something called a Genestick, a control stick for the Sega Genesis. Also, it's a legit record store. read more

Games and records in one store, what's not to love? Very fair prices on games and controllers. Much better than other stores that I have checked out and comparable to online. :) Bought a multi-tap for PS2 but it didn't work. They gave me a refund and sincerely apologized. Literally just stumbled in here today and my jaw hit the floor. A serious Mecca for punk, hardcore and metal records. I haven't been this blown away by such a stellar collection in a long time. It's obvious the dudes who own this place and work here have killer taste. 11/10 for the video games as well. Definitely a community gem and worth the drive from North County. read more

This place is perfect. Most record stores in San Diego really only have a focus on indie rock and overpriced thrift store records. I collect punk and hardcore on vinyl and up until now I've had to order anything that I was specifically looking for on eBay or directly for the label. A lot of stores have a decent selection of the fundamental older bands like Black Flag and Misfits and such but when it comes to more obscure bands or more recent bands, it's often not even worth looking.... Then I went here. I was blown away by the selection. Every time I thought of an artist to look for I found it with one exception.To give you an idea yesterday I left with Dillinger Four, Tragedy, Shai Hulud and Bane. Sure they are easy records to find online but when was the last time you saw any in store? Also lots of cool shirts and the best part is the staff. Everyone was genuinely friendly and helpful, not the typical snobby types that you often come across. This place is going to get a lot of business from me. read more

This place is the definition of "supporting your local business" They have so many different video games, records, and movies to choose from. They buy, sell, and trade pretty much everything. Stopped buy to pick up some N64 games and although they didn't have the top classic hits, i was able to snag a few solid games. I called Red Brontosaurus Records to ask for some more information about the store because we had never been here before. Mike answered the phone and is very professional and friendly! When we got to the store, there were several movies outside with great variety. We walked into the store and Mike was so happy to greet us. He was very helpful and informative. I have been dealing with Joe and Matt for years, before the store was opened. They have great prices on retro video games and give really good trade in values on everything I've ever brought in. All the popular titles are always there from zelda to mario anything, these guys know their stuff and actually live what they sell and play these games. No swap meet Wario here!!! read more

This store is awesome. The selection is great, the prices are more than fair and the owner is a very nice guy. My fella and I did a Google search for record stores and liked the name of this one so we drove over there. Unfortunately, the location it took us to was closed. Our bad for not calling first! We called and got the right location and headed over. The store is small but there is so much inside that it seems much larger. We ended up getting several albums and as a bonus, about 5 video games as well for several different systems. When we got home and tested the games out, one had a crack in it and would not load, so we called and asked if we could exchange or return it. He was more than accommodating and we ended up buying more games on the second trip. We will definitely be back! read more

Finally - a record store that carries new music I listen to. I've had such a hard time finding a record store in San Diego that sells punk / hardcore. Great selection, pretty great prices, loud music playing, and friendly dude working there. I'll definitely go back to check out their expanding used selection. I much prefer buying my music at a store than online and before I found Red Brontosaurus, I was ONLY buying online. Excited!! read more

I was debating over picking up a used "stereolab" collection. It's a two Lp set from 2006 and a little rough just looking at it I was guessing it G-VG which is a little too rough for me. I asked Joel (I think) if there was somewhere I could play it (about half the record shops in Sd have somewhere you can test used stuff) He said they didn't have a good working table in the store at the moment, but remembered the record. He examined the whole thing very carefully stating any defects he saw and cleaning off what he could. He said he took the condition into things when he priced it. He offered to let me take it home and listen, and bring it back for a refund if the condition was really rough. wrote me a receipt with returnable on it something you never get with used or even most new vinyl. I have a lot of reason why I love red brontosaurus records and this is just one more. If you buy most of ur vinyl online I have just one question why? I took it home gave it a wet cleaning and a couple plays there is one or two skips per side it could use a VPI cleaning but I'd say it's a solid Vg+ and ex- for less half the going price on discogs. read more

I was very impressed by the broad spectrum of classic video games they have, which include super rare game cartridges, peripherals, and systems - some of which have the original boxes and paperwork. The prices are close to market-value and basically what you will pay on ebay, but the neat selection of movies, music, and other fun stuff makes it completely worth the visit. read more

One of the coolest little record stores in San Diego if you're a punk fan or hardcore fan this is the Mecca of Records spent so much time up and down the coast all the way to Huntington looking for records. Being a resident of chicago it is hard to find west coast hardcore/punk bands. Also a good chunk of emo/screamo. Good prices and good selection. employees are knowledgeable on the scene and very respectful and cool dudes. Good releases from deathwish records and no idea records. A few topshelf records as well. Walked out with albums by yaphet kotto, orchid, and the saddest landscape. Recommend for every person who likes hardcore. read more

My friend and I recently started to get into the retro gaming scene and were looking for stores in the area that catered to the hobby. He mentioned a place called Red Brontosaurus in San Diego, so we got in the car and flew down the 5 to SD to check this place out. And good God am I glad we did. They had a great selection of retro games, system and plenty of little things like controllers and cords. Believe me it's getting hard to find the right hook ups for a system sometimes. We easily slammed down over 100 bucks on our first visit to the store. It's got a great selection of games, vinyl records and used DVDS. The staff is friendly and knows what they're talking about when they're asked a question. The location is also great as it's off a main street so there's not that traffic that comes through and that leads to good spots for parking. If you're in the North Park section of SD check them out you'll find something you like. read more
