We came here on a busy Saturday night, and were promptly seated at the bar. The atmosphere is perfect for date night or a small group get-together. Drinks were good, and the bartender provided fast and very courteous service while working up some casual conversation between mixing. We really wanted to like this place, and maybe if we had come for happy hour we would have had a very different experience. Unfortunately, we came for a birthday dinner and found ourselves really disappointed with the quality of the meat (don't order the ribeye) and offended at the condescension of our particular waiter (some of the wait staff seemed genuinely friendly, but our waiter was definitely not). We started with the oysters. There's 4 to an order and they were beautifully meaty and tasty. The oysters sent our Yelp-inspired expectations climbing higher and higher. Then came our 8oz. filet mignon steak, 12oz. ribeye steak, Pommes Dauphinoise (potatoes), and crisp pickled vegetables. The steaks were cooked to a perfect medium rare and looked pretty good. Filet Mignon - Well executed filet mignon. A bit pricey; I would've hoped for a little more fat marbling, but generally we enjoyed this. Ribeye - This was my first time tasting a $44 ribeye steak that had so much gristle - tough, chewy, flavorless pieces that generally ruin what could have been a very nice cut of steak. When I think of a ribeye, I think of how beautifully tender the rendered fat will be and get really excited about the texture. It was really disappointing to find myself chewing so much on this steak. After about a minute our waiter came by asking if the steaks were done well, paused about half a second, took our brief silence as affirmation, said he was glad, and moved on; unfortunately, I don't think our waiter actually cared if we liked our steak or not. Pommes Dauphinoise - These potatoes tasted pretty good. They were cooked in a way that was really inconvenient to share, the top layer was a bit tough and we devastated the beautiful pile of potatoes trying to cut a piece off. Pickled vegetables - I like pickled vegetables, I like blue cheese, and I like sesame seeds, so how could this dish still be so wrong? I didn't taste any sesame, I got a very faint taste of blue cheese, but it was generally overpowered by some flavor that I didn't like - maybe anise? After dinner, our waiter brought us dessert menus. We asked if they offered a free dessert for birthdays, and with a confused look our waiter took on a condescending tone and told us that we could order a dessert and he would put a candle in it for us for free. A minute later when we said we wouldn't order a dessert, he pushed the tealight candle on the table in front of us and, again condescendingly, told us we could blow that out to make a wish if we wanted. It was a really surprising experience, but fortunately we can just go somewhere a lot better for steak and service next time we want steak. read more

Had an AMAZING meal here last Saturday night. Everything we tried was so tasty and unique. The ambiance is also cool and we had great service! I 10/10 recommend the prosciutto appetizer with nectarines and burrata- so delicious I could have only eaten that and been happy. The lamb tartare appetizer is also very good. For entrees we had the pork chop and mushroom bolognese pasta and both were amazing. The pasta was vegetarian, which is normally not my vibe, but it was so flavorful and well executed. Third time's the charm! Finally had the opportunity to actually go forth with an early 530pm reservation to Flintcreek Cattle, located in Seattle's Greenwood neighborhood. I'm a big fan of RockCreek and often frequent Greenwood, so the anticipation has been building for several months. It is an inviting destination and fills up fast from the get go. Reservations are a must and give yourself time to find parking. Welcoming folks at the reception/host stand. Polished wait and support staff provide notable seamless and unobtrusive service. The only wait was to get the check at the end. Wished we were on the main floor, but it was mostly pleasant being seated on the second floor mezzanine. The chairs and banquette seating, however, not suitable for lingering past two hours. Proximity of tables were a bit close, two different slim wait people had their derrieres right next to me while they were dealing with the two top to my left...one even moved my menu on the table! The collection of previous Yelp tips, posts, and reviews pretty much provided a decent overview. Amazing how a former antiques store made this transformation and even moved forward with construction after a brief setback due to a nearby gas line explosion! Flintcreek Cattle is definitely a destination, but for my overall coffee/grocery/dining budget a bit on the spendy side. But something to experience to meet up for cocktails, small plates, check out various entrees, and delicious desserts. Onward to what we checked out for a day before Mother's Day early dinner: Beverages included two Mexican Cokes ($4 each), glass of a local WA state Cabernet Sauvingnon ($12), and my ubiquitous tepid water supplemented with my two requests for ice. Shareable Starters/Small Plates included a Gem Lettuce Radish Salad with Lemon Poppy Seed Catalina Dressing ($11), Oven Baked Assorted Olives ($5), Green Beans with Bonito Flakes ($11), and the epic standout was the creamy, cheesy, mushroom Grits ($12). Mains included Filet Mignon (8 ounce, $39), Fennel Braised Wild Boar Shoulder with Gnocchi ($25), and Slow Braised (=aka fall of the bone) Bison Short Ribs with Pickled Veg, Turnips, and Parmesan Grits ($29). Coffee service was ($3 each, but not a full refill) with cream and sugar (not Sugar in the Raw, but packets from Maui). Desserts are stellar ($8 each). Two orders of the Valrhona Chocolate Ganache Cake with Caramel Peanut Butter Ice Cream and Peanut Anglaise, think an update of molten lava cake. The other dessert was a Brown Butter Bourbon Pudding with Coconut Cream and Tuile. Yes, the total with tax and 20% tip was a little over $240. Tasty, but a hit to this working mom's budget. Flint Creek is a spectacular place for food - their dinner menu is amazing and well worth it, but our favorite part of Flint Creek is their happy hour, which is available EVERY day, not just weekdays. The burger on the happy hour menu is one of the best I've had, and only $10! The $8 old fashions are also amazing. Little bits of bacon tossed in a light citrusy vinaigrette with sweet walnuts that weren't overly sweet. What a fresh and delicious starter. Mussels were kind of the low point. The mussels themselves were cooked just fine but the broth wasn't as buttery or flavorful as other brothers I've had. The dish also only came with one piece of toast. So yes, order the extra sea wolf bread for $4. Fyi- Bread portion is also quite small. The main dishes were seriously some of the best mains I've had in Seattle. The steak was so creative and the meat was cooked so perfectly medium rare. The toppings/sauce came with this amazing onion marmalade-- so think sweet soft onions, topped with bits of Gorgonzola cheese and sweet walnuts. The flavors just worked so well. Unlike a traditional steakhouse where the flavor is straight up in the meat, this steak dish provides some creativity and variety from the norm--love. Duck confit was beautifully cooked and was juicy and tender. The tuna was a bit small in portion size but also beautifully cooked and delicious. Will definitely be back to try more dishes. Brought my bf here last night for his birthday and we had a true 5 star experience. Thanks to Nicole for the excellent service! Her recommendations were spot on from our bottle of wine (2015 Mark Vincent red blend) all the way through to dessert (brûléed banana split). To start, we shared the pickled veggies with blue cheese tahini. For our entrees, we shared the short rib hash and the wild boar shoulder. Everything was absolutely divine! We have found our new favorite special occasion spot, and can't wait to return soon for happy hour. Heads up that parking is somewhat scarce. There's a small pay lot around the corner and minimal street parking. We needed to find parking that was pretty close because I have an injury and my bf doesn't know how to drive my stick shift car, so it wasn't a situation where I could get dropped off at the door while he parked. I drove around in circles until something opened up about a block and a half away, but in retrospect we should've just called a Lyft. The parking hassle was more than worth it, though. The short ribs were tender and the Korean sauce brought a good spicy. We also ordered the blue cheese burger, which was well cooked and wasn't over powered by the cheese. We've raved about this meat palace in the past. A no pretension, casual, laid-back joint with excellently prepared food and cocktails. Alas. No more. So much was wrong the other evening and so little right. Within our 15 minute arrival time, our table had been given away so we had to wait outdoors for a later table. Though within their stated and published 15 minute grace period, we attempted calling three times while stuck in traffic to alert them of our short delay. NO ANSWER. A cocktail ordered on the rocks. Significant delay in serving drinks and no rocks. We pointed it out and were told "We don't have a blender!" Huh? The warm duck salad was a very generous portion and very tasty. The duck pate with accompanying relish was delicious. Not so much so for the hanger steak which was ordered medium rare and arrived very rare. Tough. I know elk is lean meat and requires a light touch on the grill as it can get dry very quickly. This rack of elk was still bleeding and cold in the center. Very poorly prepared. One cocktail each, one glass of wine each, some bread and asparagus, plus items mentioned above with tip came close to $300. for two diners. Flintcreek is a cool sustainable restaurant located in Seattle's north side. They specialize in game from the Pacific Northwest, and you'll find exciting meat options like venison, duck, and buffalo, along with the usual beef options. We started with the roasted acorn squash and burrata appetizer ($18), which was incredibly tasty. It was topped with sunflower seeds, and balsamic vinegar. Through the portion was small and the price was excessive. I tried the venison loin. It was also incredibly fresh, and seasoned brilliantly with pepper, and topped with Washington cherries and served alongside puréed parsnips. I ordered it medium rare and it was cooked perfectly. I also tried the buffalo hanger steak, and it was also cooked as ordered and incredibly delicious. We ordered some vegetables to pair with the meat, and they were disappointing. The carrots were well seasoned but badly undercooked and the brussel sprouts were also undercooked and soaked in butter. I complained to the waiter and he just shrugged. However, I went for the chocolate ganache cake with peanut butter ice cream and it was excellent. The prices here are high (they even charge for bread!), but I suppose this is to be expected for sustainable game. read more

We came here on a Monday night and it was fairly crowded. PROTIP: they have their own parking lot a block north that seems to be part of another business. Do not miss this and park far away of pay for parking. We were seated immediately with our reservation at an upstairs table overlooking the kitchen down below. We started with the endive salad which was presented nicely but did not have a ton of taste or appeal in my opinion. I was trying to decide between the hanger steak and boar shoulder and ended up with the boar shoulder. It was nice and soft and the gnocchi was a nice touch and went well with this dish since it is potato based. reservations were made over email and when we arrived, we were seated upstairs at a long table overlooking the open kitchen. The restaurant is really dim. Like, so dim my parents had problems reading the menu. Other than that, the space had a similar feel to their sister restaurant, RockCreek. I've had wonderful experiences at RockCreek, so I was eager to try the meatier version. Our meal started off promising enough. Our server was super friendly and attentive and our starters were delicious. The mussels were large, plump, and the broth was delicious. I wish there had been more bread to sop it all up! The lamb tartare was very fresh but nothing to write home about and the portion was definitely on the small side for a shared plate. Overall, the food wasn't up to par. The wild boar shoulder with gnocchi was tender, but very salty, the pork chop was super dry, the duck confit was overcooked and dry, but the venison was cooked perfectly, albeit a little on the sweet side which wasn't my thing. Since it's a steak place, fiancé and I shared the 28oz rib chop along with a side of green beans and potatoes. We asked for medium rare and the behemoth of a chop that arrived looked promising upon first glance. Upon picking up a slice, we noticed the meat was incredibly rare. Like, straight up raw with a sear on the outside. After checking each piece, we called our server over and she even agreed it was very raw. Basically, it was not edible unless you're a caveman. We sent it back to get a little more cook time, but when they brought it back, it was STILL moo-ing. Anyway, they took it back AGAIN and managed to cook a slice to medium rare, which we shared. At that point, it wasn't worth sending it back yet again since everyone else had finished their meals. We basically just ended up eating the sides with a slice of the meat and took the rest home so we could finish cooking it to our liking. Aside from being raw, the steak was also woefully under-seasoned, as was the potatoes. We had to liberally salt both items for flavor. The manager came over and both he and our server apologized profusely for the severely undercooked steak. Honestly, it was a super giant thick cut, but we sort of expected they had this down by now. After a disappointing meal, they comped our steak and brought out a dessert platter to try and make up for it. It was a nice gesture, but I would've been happier if my steak had been prepared correctly and we could've eaten with everyone else. read more

The area itself is pretty dark and dingy so it's hard to really think of this is a place to go to and stick around unless you're local. So if you're going to drop this kind of cash I assume you're going to drop in and then either head across the street to a bar or get a cab to another part of town. Appetizers are all on point. Had the steak tartare, the pate, and it was all beautifully presented and very appetizing. The main course was also really good. I think for the price it's pretty small and even with just two of us sharing I kind of felt hungry afterwards. The old-fashioned cocktail was amazing. Are the drinks and service were excellent and my glasses were never empty. The waiter was attentive and answered all our questions and had a great attitude. Definitely enjoyed the experience here. I could've eaten another order! We were scraping the plate- perfectly roasted squash and velvety burrata- make sure you order it! I normally don't order chicken out but the Mad Hatcher roast chicken is so moist and tasty you'll wait to come back and order another one when your craving chicken. The roasted lamb was a hit too!
