She is well-skilled and trained in her art and it shows in her work and her choice of products, which are high-end European items for her pedis and really nice Zoya and Deborah Lipmann for nails. I followed my barber Kyle from another shop. He has always done an amazing job on my hair and I can't recommend him highly enough. He is very detail oriented and always makes sure I'm happy with the cut. I haven't had one hair cut that need "to grow in" since I started seeing him years ago. He gets 5 stars. I've been wanting to try Flip for a couple of years now and I was desperately in need of a haircut and a treat for myself. I haven't had my hair cut by someone other than myself in years. I called on a Tuesday morning and the very nice receptionist set up an evening appointment with Chelsey. Before I went to cosmetology school years ago (yes, I'm a beauty school drop out) I would get my hair cut at high end salons in Royal Oak averaging $70 just for a cut. Flip is just as lovely and high end as any of them, if not more! Flip is welcoming and chic. All of that being said, Chelsey gave me the best haircut I've ever had. The actual cut was nothing special, it was one that we agreed would work for me while I'm growing my hair out but, the execution was FLAWLESS! I cannot describe in words how amazingly well she cuts hair, I caught her checking the hair cut multiple times. The quality was astounding. She seemed very knowledgeable about the science behind hair and she shared with me some great tips and tricks they didn't teach me in cos school. I have been getting my hair done by Kali for years. I've followed her from her first salon to Flip and would travel to the moon just to remain her client. Lets face it, a good stylist that you can trust with your hair is so important! I have tried others while in a pinch and always end up back in Kali's chair. Kali is an expert at color theory! She maintained my blonde hair for many years and when I was ready, she took me back to dark. Either way, light or dark, she knows how to mix color/chemicals to get desired results. Not only does she listen and do exactly what you want her too, she knows how to do it right the first time. I have long hair and suffer from what I like to call scissor shock. So, it is important that my stylist listens and doesn't think in terms of "stylist's inches". When I ask for a trim, she trims my hair. If I ask for 2 inches off, she takes two inched off. Lastly this chick is A-MAZING at up-dos and bridal hair. She did my hair for my own wedding, along with the rest of my bridal party. I have been getting my hair cut at Flip for a few years now, and have always loved it. Today I went in with a special mission: fix one of the biggest hair color disasters in recent history (NOT done by anyone at Flip-- learn from my mistakes and just go there first, avoid the rest). What was supposed to be medium ash blonde with subtle highlights was a green and orange nightmare with almost white "stripper stripes", as Kali called them (the color guru who fixed me). She took a minute to brainstorm a solution. First, she gently stripped out the bad colors, then toned in two different shades to fix the base. The end result was exactly what I wanted. Kali is a chemist who takes time to figure out exactly what needs to be done. She is also not an over-sharer and is very smart and interesting. I wanted to keep talking after she was done with my hair. The price for a very involved job was also excellent. I will definitely be back for my regular cuts which are always great, and any time I need a color adjustment. Kali RULES. read more

I am so happy that the other reviews on Yelp led me to Flip. I desperately needed a cut and color and I haven't gone to a real salon in a while so I had to just pick a new place based on the recommendations of others. So I ended up at Flip and walked out with healthy, bright, flow-y hair. Irene picked the perfect color for my highlights and even touched them up for free (I had a serious root situation going on). The staff is awesome (shout out Jean!) and makes some great coffee. I really liked the products they use too. The Bumble and Bumble Quench shampoo has made a huge difference in the feel of my hair. They also use a line called Prive and Moroccan Oil which smells amazing. read more

Waited for over 45 minutes for my scheduled massage appointment (of 2 weeks) and ended up leaving. Customer service could have been better during this issue, especially for a new client. Price ($75) and 30 min drive not worth it. My sister gave us a gift certificate for our birthday and after a long discussion, the owner finally agreed to refund her. The low score is not for the massage therapist (my sister said she is great), but for the lack of customer service. read more

She is super sweet and incredibly talented. She even came down to my apartment the day of the wedding at no extra cost. My appointment at Flip was canceled today and I am VERY disappointed. I have had a couple appointments in the past and I have always had to wait - 10 mins here, 15 mins there. In fact the last time, I was rushed out the chair for the next appointment because my appointment started late. I never made a fuss, I was ok with that. Today I gave the salon a courtesy call to let them know that I would be 15 mins late to my appointment and was told I would have to reschedule. I live in Brooklyn NY and I needed to find a hair stylist and makeup artist to get the 40s/50s glamour for my wedding and Flip was fantastic at capturing that!!! Michelle, the makeup artist was a true professional, but also an extremely cool lady!! She asked me what I was look I wanted and we discussed it at length and she nailed it!! Kali the hair stylist was amazing as well, super cool too!! My hair looked incredible and I couldn't have been more happy! Both of them traveled to my parents place in Grosse Ile and dealt with all of the crazy that comes with a wedding day with a lot of smiles and laughs!! I used Flip for hair and make up on the day of my wedding for a group of 5. They were able to accommodate us and were very responsive to changes that I made in the process. I went in for my trial on a Friday night (Adrienne had nothing available on Saturday for my bachelorette party) and she sent me back home to come in early on Saturday so that I didn't "waste" my hair so that it looked great for my party. Had my first visit to Flip today, and I loved it! Everyone was very nice, and Adrienne did an absolutely PERFECT job cutting my hair. She gave me EXACTLY the cut I wanted, even though it entailed cutting off 4 - 6 inches of hair and totally changing the style. :-) Making an appointment was super easy (got my stylist at my specified time within two days of calling), and parking was convenient. The pricing was competitive with my last salon. The ONLY little drawback is that they don't take tips on credit cards, so if you don't have cash or a check on you, you can't tip on the spot. I will have to go back tomorrow (and I definitely will), but it was well worth it, and I will be better prepared for next time. :-) read more

I've only been going here for 2.5 years, but it will remain my place so long as Christie K. works there. I found Flip when I grabbed a card at a bridal show. I didn't think I was in the market for a new hairdresser, as I had my regular place of 10 years. I found out the girl who had been doing my hair for 10 years was quitting the month before my wedding and wouldn't be doing hair anymore. Luckily I still had the card so I gave a call. So glad I did! Christie and Flip are such a better flit for me. She's great, the products are great, the place is funky and eclectic and everyone just seems friendly. I really, really wanted to love Flip. I was looking for a salon close by. I had been going to my old salon for 12 years, but I recently moved here. But the colour was meh, and so was the cut. After 3 visits I'm going elsewhere. I know exactly what I want, and they were never able to quite achieve it. I wouldn't mind paying the high prices if they got it right, but they never did. Each time I went back, I had to wait until the old cut had grown out a few inches before they could try again. I am used to going for a trim every 5 weeks or so, but as I type, I'm again waiting for it to grow out before I find another salon. Again, just meh. read more

I will be away that week, so I asked for a recommendation for another stylist before March 18th, no one was available for an early evening or weekend appointment. SO after reading all the reviews on flip i decide it to try out this salon. An even though this is the first salon i been to. I have to say it was was a great first experience.. THe people at Flip were very friendly an polite. They kept offering me something to drink an makin sure i was comforble while i waited since i got there a half hour early.. The salon is adorable - hip without any pretense - and Marcie gave me a fabulous haircut and colour. I walked out feeling like a new girl. I heard about this lady named Anna through a friend of mine and was told that she does wonderful pedicures named Anna that is employed at Flip. I have went to several places to get pedicures and just was not satisfied. I decided to go check her services out. She was very friendly and the place was exceptionally clean. I liked how it was in a private room and she wasn't rushing, she took her time and was very thorough. Even though the pedicure cost more than all of the other nail salons it was worth it. I would definitely recommend Anna for her pedicures. She has top of the line products. She was very courteous and I will go back and see her again. She did a great job! Moving from Chicago and having to say goodbye to my hairdresser was terrible. Trying to find one just as good is even more terrible! My husband actually found Kyle for his and my sons hair and I felt comfortable enough for him to do my hair. We have been going to him for 4 years now. He cuts/colors mine, my daughter, son, husband and mom. He is awesome and very patient with my 4 year old. No one else is allowed to touch our hairs!!! Though she left a sea of sad clients in her wake, she left us in the trusty hands of her one-time assistant, now full-time stylist, Anemarie. Anemarie has deftly picked up where Chelsey left off. When it comes to the trusty talent needed to properly apply color or give a perfect cut or trim, I know that Anemarie will always do a terrific job. But unfortunately, while the same girl was washing my hair, she and her coworker (who was washing another client's hair next to me) began an incredibly unprofessional bitch session about a couple of the other stylists in the salon. nothing is more awkward then having your stylist completely ignore you and badmouth someone else directly over your shampoo covered head. honestly, this place charges to much for that kind of behavior. I tried Flip because of the Groupon deal, which was $35 for $100 of hair services at the salon. I've been going to the same woman for hair cuts and color since I was born, so I figured something different would be fun for a change. I didn't request a specific stylist and I got Marci, who was great. I am trying to grow out my hair so I told her I just wanted a trim and I had blond highlights, but wanted an all-over color that was close to my natural color, but with some pizzazz (because I'm too lazy and cheap to keep up my roots). She started out my checking out my hair and figuring out the best way to cut it. I normally part it on one side and she parted it on the other side and I couldn't believe how different (and better) it looked. I definitely needed an impartial person to figure that one out for me. Then she brought out a book of hair color samples and helped me decide which looked best and off she went. I was in love with my hair when she was finished! I only wish I could have Marci come style my hair everyday, because two days later when I washed it and tried to recreate the style I was not as wowed by it (not that the style she gave me was hard to style, I just don't have the magically skill of blow drying that a professional stylist does). But nonetheless I was still happy with it. Total hair cut and color was about $115 + tip, so the Groupon helped. I don't think I could justify spending that much on my hair every 6-8 weeks. Marci did tell me that she does free bang trims between hair cuts, which is a nice offer. I think in the end I will stay with my regular stylist. However, I will definitely go to Marci when I'm in need of a change. read more

I fell in love with Flip as soon as I heard the lovely Zooey Deschanel crooning on the radio. I knew I was in a unique place. To begin, I was running a tad late because I could not find a parking spot to save my life (so get to your appointment a bit early, just in case), and they were totally nice about it. My stylist, Marcie, sat me down, felt around my hair for a bit and confirmed my suspicion- my color was starting to look a bit drab with a slight orange tinge to it- and not the awesome citrus inspired orange that Marcie is rocking, but a "I-have-hard-water-and-it's-turning-my-hair-a-funky-color" orange. She said it was no problem, she'd just add some foils, touch up the roots and tone it. The whole while we chatted about everything. It never felt strained or awkward, just like I was having a conversation with a super hip chick. She rinsed and washed me and snipped my poorly neglected ends and I was out the door.
