I've been searching for a stylist who will TALK (and listen!) to me before cutting - and I found Shelby at Flip Salon. She did a great job - the best cut I've gotten in a long time. I am very pleased and would definitely recommend this salon (all the stylists looked to be very professional and personable), and the place has an easy, relaxed sort of retro vibe to it. This place is amazing! When I walked in I was greeted immediately by smiling faces, and my stylist met with me right away versus me waiting at all. I went to Adrienne and she basically gave me exactly what I asked for. I really appreciated that she took her time when thinning out my hair instead of just "slopping through it (I have to have this done to my hair because it is crazy thick)" I could tell she really cared about the quality of her work, and she also cared that I was happy with the look she gave me. I also had a lot of questions for her as far as what is fun to do in Detroit (I'm from out of town) and she answered all of these for me happily. I would definitely consider that above and beyond. I don't live in Detroit but come here regularly from New York. I will definitely be calling in advance so I can hopefully have Adrienne cut my hair in the future. I saw caroline and and wanted an ombre coloring style but came out with half my head dark brown, and the bottom half bleach blonde with an obvious distinct line. It looks terrible. I wont be returning. I felt rushed. read more

I had Michelle do my makeup for my wedding and it was everything I envisioned and more! I felt like a movie star. It completed the vintage look that I was going for. I loved working with Michelle and she made me feel like an old friend! I also came back and had her do my makeup for halloween. It was awesome! I would recommend her to anyone who is getting married, needs a good brow shaping or wants to be a zombie! read more

I love to try new salons whenever I actually decide to go to one. I'm like a Chia Pet, my hair grows back to its original length within a month so I'm not afraid to just walk in & tell the stylist to do what she pleases. Which is exactly what I did. I decided to go to Caroline & she assured me she would keep my length intact. She then gave me an impeccable trim, thinning out our layers and whittling the pieces around my face to emphasize my cheekbones. My new cut was still long & polished. She was so nice that I would send people there just for her kind demeanor. read more

Probably one of the worst haircuts i've ever had. Jacqui gave me a blah haircolor -- not what I wanted -- and i even brought in a picture. She cut my layers in back way too short and my bangs as well. She asked me how I wanted my haircut when she was washing my hair. Usually a stylist will do this at the beginning when you're sitting in the chair. Cut and color took a little over 3 hours. Way too much time to be spending on a bad haircut. The salon was pretty empty too on a saturday morning. Yikes. read more

I have been going to flip salon for years, interestingly enough have not been able to get same stylist twice. They have always had highly skilled stylists up until my last visit. When I requested the person that cut my hair last, I was told that she no longer worked there. I asked for someone else highly skilled in cutting hair and was given and appointment with ANN MARIE. Having never had a bad experience before, I trusted that she would be skilled. BOY WAS I WRONG! I asked for a long pixie, and explained to her my issues with my hair: giant swirl at crown, two cowlicks at my back hairline, and wavy. I have had extremely short hair before, and I am pretty liberal when I come s to my hair. She proceeded to cut my hair WITH SCISSORS 2" short all over my head. Now the back of my head has a bald spot, the hair at my temples stick out because I where glasses, I have a red helmet and I look like I have the haircut of an elderly woman. I had to take blending shears to blend in the chunks of layering in my hair. I literally had horizontal lines of layering in by hair. I waited to write this review, so I wouldn't be so emotional. but it still pisses me off that I paid $60 for this train wreck. Now I have to live with this until it grows out a little and go pay to have someone else fix this. read more

I was a regular here for weekly nail services and I will explain why I stopped coming. I will start out with the positive. Anna is an excellent nail technician whose manicures last a good amount of time and she carries high end products. However, her customer service skills are very poor. I will preface this by saying I love animals, am vegan and have a pet of my own; however, I do not think animals belong in the workplace unless you are legally blind and need assistance. She has a dog in the store and she pets the dog and does not wash her hands while she is giving you a manicure which I did not feel was hygienic; however, I tolerated it because the manicures were good. However, the main reason I stopped coming was because when I called the front desk to inform them I was running late to my nail appointment, it was explained to me that she would not be able to see me because she had another client right after. I was fine with that because it was my fault I was running late and I took personal responsibility and apologized. We hung up and after I was able to pull over from driving, I called to reschedule the appointment for another day. The front desk informed me then, not at the time of my initial call that Anna wanted to charge me $23 for my missed appointment which would have been acceptable if this was their written policy and I had signed an informed consent that I would be charged for missed or cancelled appointments. I never signed anything, was never informed of their policy, and never given fair warning. I did end up paying the fee, but vowed that I would never give my business again. I was perturbed by the fact that the front staff were very dismissive and Anna did not follow up with me or inform me herself. It was as if she did not value my weekly business. In the future, if they haven't done so already, I suggest Flip Salon create a policy and have customers read and sign it, or post a sign somewhere like many salons do. Customers should be informed before they are charged. read more

I had my first appointment at Flip today and I'll be back! It's a very chill atmosphere, I felt very at ease, and Callie, my stylist, listened to what I was after and delivered the goods! I appreciated that she listened to me about how I style my hair and gave me a cut that would work for me. We chatted during the shampoo about some past hair disasters, where I hinted at my past bad experiences with thinning shears. I have thick hair--like, extremely thick. Never once have I been able to convince a stylist not to thin my hair, and never once have I been happy with the thinned hair. After that brief mention at the shampoo station, she didn't even bring thinning up, and focused on lightening my style with layers, just like I've wanted for YEARS. I felt very at ease during the whole cut and walked out with a shiny, bouncy, lighter-than-air cut that is everything I wanted and nothing I didn't. If you are looking for a stylist that will really listen instead of assuming they know best, Callie is the girl you need to see! read more
