This was so much fun!! I had never heard of FlipSwitch before so I was excited to check it out. I like that it's not just VR but there's an area where you can play video games on different systems, a ping pong table, and air hockey. There's also a game that's kind of like pool but you use a golf club.. I don't know what it is called, but it was cool to try. On to the VR. I love how they had a ton of options to choose from and the game itself was clear and actually realistic. We played a game that was like Mario Party where we had to complete mini games against each other. Then, we played a zombie game it had me screaming like zombies really were coming after me! They have snacks like chips and cookies and drinks like soda and a few alcoholic beverages. The only "downside " is that there can only be 4 people playing VR at one time so if you have a large group like we did you won't get to play together. Overall everyone enjoyed themselves and we'll definitely be back!! read more

I've not spent a ton of time behind a set of VR lenses in my time gaming until recently. And Flipswitch VR is a place that shows me that I've been missing out. I had an absolute blast shooting zombies in their Free Roam arenas and the staff was incredibly helpful and friendly. I've checked out several VR establishments around Kansas City since then and Flipswitch ranks among the best. FlipSwitch VR is one of the most fun and exciting activities in Kansas City. As a member of my company's "Celebrate Committee," I assist in organizing group events. For only $420 we were able to rent out the entire FlipSwitch VR facility for 3 hours. They also allowed us to bring in our own food and drink. It was one of our most popular events of the year so we ended up doing it a second time! The facility is colorful, welcoming, a great place to hang out with friends or co-workers. The entry and lounge area has plenty of room to sit, socialize, play handheld games, or watch the group VR games. There is also a 1-player headset for games like Beat Saber, Fruit Ninja, and more. The other half of the facility houses the gaming area which is split in half. It's hard to explain until you experience it for yourself. But basically we were able to play 2 different 3 player games. One was a zombie apocalypse shooter game, and the other a more strategic pirate ship game. Both were tons of fun and lasted approximately 15 minutes each. They also offer longer 30 minute escape room type games and are constantly working on coding new and exciting experiences. A lot of people in our group were nervous about motion sickness but no one seemed to have an issue. The only thing to note is that it can get pretty intense - I definitely broke a sweat in the zombie game and needed a shower after a few rounds! All in all tons of fun, knowledgeable staff, great atmosphere, a truly unique experience. A must-do in Kansas City. read more

This place was so fun! During the short wait to get our game started, we were allowed to play some old school PS2 games. I wish I could remember the gentleman's name who greeted us, (maybe Mark?) but he was so kind & helpful and reassuring for two newbies to VR. We played Corsair's Curse, which is a pirate themed escape room, and really enjoyed it. I know personally I get motion sickness, so I took a Dramamine before coming & I felt no sickness at all in the game. My husband & I were physically in the same room but in the game we started out in separate rooms. We eventually got to work together which was so fun to do. Upon finishing the gentlemen helping us gave us praise for our teamwork & we left proud that we didn't need any clues. Wish we had booked two games back to back. Mind blowing virtual zombie elimination feat! I can't imagine how my group looked outside of the virtual lens, I just know the screams due to zombie limbs coming at us, and the storyline could have kept us going for hours. This is a three star because my power pack ran out of juice and it caused the group to stop. There was a party in the next room and most of the devices were being used. Because the system shut down for the group, we couldn't get scores....and we are a competitive group. I am willing to give them a second chance. A heck of a concept! read more

Oh my goodness, we had so much fun here! This is my first time here, but my friend has been here before. The place is a bit hard to find on GPS, but it's right off I-35 and West Pennway. Very unassuming from the outside and the inside looks kind of like a warehouse. There are two rooms to play in and we had to reserve a spot beforehand. We played against Zombies and the staff was helpful! They helped us put on our gear and explained how the guns worked. Let me just say that virtual reality is the way to go! I've not had so much fun in a long time and I would say this is much more fun than breakout rooms. We played for an hour but had so much fun that it didn't seem as long. I highly recommend this place and am thinking about bringing my son here someday. Check them out and let me know! read more

Perfect for the Marketing Technology team outing for the holidays. Nothing quite says "Christmas" like killing skeleton pirate or zombies. Meanwhile, you can watch your coworkers during their sessions and see what they see. Or you can hang out in the lounge playing Atari or NES. All in all a good time and I'll be looking for reasons to bring a group of people here. You can currently go in a set of three. So I'd start with that and maybe call for more options. read more

My husband and I hosted a party here for about 40 people, and everyone (ages 25-71) left raving about how fun it was! First, the staff are all friendly and helpful. Matt and Jamie made our experience easy and stress free. With so much to do at FlipSwitch, this is a perfect place for a group. There are two fun games to choose from; three players in each arena can play at once. For all the people who aren't interested in playing or are waiting for their turn, there's a great open area that includes seating, and plenty of entertainment! You can watch the players in the arena on several screens, getting a bird's eye view of their gaming experience. Also available are all the old school video games that we grew up on and comfortable sofas. To cut your teeth on the VR experience, there's a solo setup with some fun, easy games to try out. My favorite part of FlipSwitch is that it requires no video game experience to enjoy! I've never been good at video games, so I was afraid I'd be terrible at this. But the staff spend just the right amount of time helping you understand the equipment and getting you set up, and once the game starts, it all feels so real! It's practically impossible to get it wrong. Our friends commented on how the group games were a great ice breaker for those who didn't previously know each other, and spectating in the lounge or from the sidelines was the source of a lot of good laughs for everyone. We played Corsair's Curse. We started 10 min late. But I think they made up that time at the end. However our head sets had a lot of issues. We could not hear each our so when trying to do things together it was hard. You are also in a large room with 4 other people playing a different game that are shouting to talk to each other in there game. So that adds to you not being able to hear the people you are trying to play with. The person that was supposed to be helping us was not even in there with us 4 of the 8 to 10 times my head set reset. A few times when it reset my hands were switched. If this had been my first VR experience I would probably not go back. I would say try somewhere else if you have the option. read more

I attended the FlipSwitch VR launch party on 12/7/18. Got to meet both owners and hear the story of how the concept came to be. I played Arizona Sunshine, a "shoot 'em up" style zombie attack game, with two other strangers. We were able to successful defend ourselves against the waves of zombies coming to get us! These guys thought of everything to make the experience complete. You can use a long rifle or a set of pistols as your weapons. Pew pew pew to your heart's content! The space is done very well, complete with a gamer lounge filled with various console emulators and a VR rig to play while you wait for your time slot. I will be bringing friends, co-workers for team building and even my wife. See you all soon! read more

Found this place randomly and am SO glad we went!! A group of four of us went and had the best time playing Arizona Sunshine. The total amount was about $115 but between 4 ppl it was a very reasonable price. The lobby had a ton of fun stuff to do while we waited, and you could hear/see the perspective of those playing in the arena which got us all really excited to play. The game was very immersive and user friendly (I am not a gamer at all and kept up just fine with the three guys I went with). All the equipment and facilities were clean and the staff was great. Henry did a wonderful job explaining the rules and how to make the most of your experience. I am prone to motions sickness, for the zombie game specifically there were a few elevators and moving carts you had to jump into, but I took a Dramamine and was totally fine! We finished our mission a little early and they let us play a different game until our time slot was completely done which was super nice. Perfect for friend groups, parties, and dates. I grew up in the 80's so I've seen the evolution of gaming from the original NES to PlayStation 4. I even have the PlayStation VR set up, but it doesn't come close to replicating the FlipSwitch VR experience though! Think of this experience as the next evolution of arcades from back when you were a kid, but with today's technology. It's 100% free roam, so you are literally "in the game" walking around and blasting zombies. It was incredibly intense, the best way I can describe it is that it must feel like what being in the real life version of The Walking Dead is like. So, make sure you are ready when you strap the headset on! My only advice is to go check it out for yourself, you won't regret it. read more

When I say fun, this was FUN. It's bring your own alcohol, and they have a little lobby with a bunch of old gaming systems where you can drink before you go into a room with the VR equipment. Super nice and helpful staff, a great environment, and the games were incredibly immersive and DOPE. I was in a group of 6, although I could totally imagine it being fun with even less or just solo. We were even running a little late and they treated us like it didn't even happen. Would try to make this something to do to every time I return to KC. 11/10 read more

My husband and I enjoyed doing the Christmas themed escape room. There is a large play space, the tutorial at the beginning is very helpful, and the staff is super friendly. It is less immersive than other VR places I have been because you can hear so much outside noise while playing (staff talking to each other and other groups, people playing games in the lobby while they wait, etc.). That's the only downside but it is still fun and I would go again. read more

My brother and I went here and had a great time. We played the zombie one, and had a blast. You have a good size space to actually move around in and it's designed where you don't have to worry about bumping into walls or people as long as you pay attention. Will definitely come back to play again and try the other game as well. The staff is very friendly and helpful with any questions we had. It doesn't look like much from the outside but when you walk in there are amazing murals all over the walls. The staff is very nice and the VR games are so fun. My only issue is that there are only 4 game options. You normally have time to play two of them, so if you go back you can play the other two. I played the two games that weren't the zombie games, so when I go back next time I won't have many options since that's not my cup of tea. Overall, 4 stars because the place is so much fun and a great few hours with friends and family. read more

Looking for something fun for our family of four. My kids love zombies in call of duty so I thought this would be right up their alley. Things did not start well. They do not have their technology coming yet. We started with the first scene of Arizona sunshine, I had no game sound and my sons mic did not work. We played for a bit and then he had to take it down to reset it. Then for the next 10 minutes he battled to get things to work. He then said he worked things out and would continue where we left off. I requested that we start from the beginning since we paid $130 and I didn't want to get robbed of the experience due to their malfunction. He did start the game over and it was actually fantastic. Very realistic, the zombies are coming at you and it looks real! You shoot one in the head and that part of the head blows up. Totally immersive. At one point you get on a moving cart and it feels like you are moving. Wild. After the story you go to a zombie shootout mode. We got to play just 7 times rounds and they cut us off even though it showed shooting records and everyone else was getting 11 rounds. Disappointed that our time was cut short due to their tech issues but still a fun and cool family experience. read more
