We started a repair with our original hot tub company and it was like pulling teeth from a wild grizzly bear to get the manufacturer to own up to bad parts in manufacturing and design. Thrilled to have found Ken. We'd purchased a house with a hot tub. We have all of the paperwork and parts purchased for the tub. It was purchased in 1983 and has had the pump and heater replaced many years ago. We had an impeller shear off of our hot tub pump. Phoned Ken, received a timely call back. He correctly diagnosed the issue over the phone, informed me that he had the part in his truck. Quoted me the parts and labor over the phone. I was floored. Was totally prepared to get beat up by the sticker price of this repair. This wasn't the case, I was giddy about how well this was working out. Following the call, I was confident that my problem was soon to be resolved by quality work at a reasonable rate. He actually repaired the issue was going to replace the part not try to sell me a new pump. I couldn't believe it. He promptly visited my house to confirm the issue and even came by during the day so I didn't have to take time off of work! Phoned me with the issue (correctly diagnosed over the phone) and left me an invoice! I may not be happy about the next time we need to phone Flomaster but when we do, we won't need to worry about price gouging or surprise expenses. I wanted to provide a follow-up for Ken based on our most recent experience. Our wireless controller stopped working so we called Ken and he came out promptly to take a look. Our control system is new to the market and the industry so some hiccups were to be expected. Ken had it working again right away. He also took the time based on my previous review to explain the cost associated with our initial spa refurbishing work. I'm happy to say that after he itemized the cost for us regarding the increase and associated electrical work, I feel like we got a great deal, especially since he cares about the work he did so much that the additional visit and calibration was free of charge! I changed my review from A-OK, to five stars. We'll keep Ken's business card at the ready in case we need future work. Don't hesitate to hire him and support a local guy who cares about his craft. Previous post: Ken does great work, but price is a big ???. If you can nail him down or track him across the project, do it. Unfortunately, Ken said he "stood by" his verbal estimate of about 2K "at the most" to refurbish the tub we inherited on an old property. His last verbal estimate which he insisted he "stood by" was a little over 2K because of needing a 140 dollar electrical part. We just got the invoice today, 2800K. That's quite a bit over the initial and secondary "stood by" estimate. We'll pay it without too much fuss because the work is good, but it is a surprise. I live in Bainbridge Island and was having a lot of trouble finding someone to service our Pentair Pool Heater. I called Flomaster in Kent - as a long shot. Ken was kind enough to call back to let me know that during summer the island was out of his service area. That was not surprising but what he did next was truly remarkable. He walked me through troubleshooting the heater for over and hour without charging me! In fact, he refused to take any payment when I offered. He showed a deeper understanding of how these heaters and complex pool and spa systems work than anyone who has serviced our spa and equipment for the 10 years we have owned it. Right at the nicest part of summer our pool heater failed. The issue was intermittent and those things are the toughest to diagnose. But, Ken is a wizard when it comes to pool equipment. He was able to quickly diagnose the problem in an electronic component and knew exactly what to do. He fixed the issue quickly and completely and saved summer for our kids. My husband called and made an appointment and knew what was wrong with our hot tub, and asked for quote and and he told him the price of the part. He came and replace the part and again I asked how much it would cost and he quoted the price of the part and told me he would send me a bill and that he only took cash no credit cards. When we received the bill the part price was almost $150 more than he had quoted both my husband and I. My husband called and he did make a small price adjustment to the part. He did a good job fixing the hot tub, but be sure you get the bill before he leaves and be prepared to not charge it. read more

We bought a house that came with an old hot tub that worked for a couple months before giving out. We called Ken after reading the other yelp reviews and also the not so great yelp reviews of service by bigger places like aquaquip. within 15 min of looking at our hot tub he was able to figure out what was working and what wasn't. He got the parts within a few days and had it all installed within a couple hours. The parts are obviously expensive but his labor was reasonable and he was very knowledgeable about hot tubs and we did not feel like he was trying to sell us or replace stuff we didn't need. Although overall more money we wanted to spend bc the previous owners really hadn't maintained the parts, he has it working like new and it's much cheaper than buying a new spa when he says the body of the spa is in pretty good condition! Ken has been my "spa guy" for many years. Besides being great guy to work with, Ken's knowledge of hot tubs is expansive. When the pump broke a while back on my old Marquis tub, and a new one was not available, Ken rebuilt the motor himself. Recently, the controller gave out, and Ken made my tub "internet ready." Now, I can control my hot tub from my smartphone! My friends are very impressed. This was no small task, as Ken had to cut my old panel in two and match it to the new control panel. we recently bought a home with a 'vintage' hot tub (circa 1985). the heater/ pump unit was a rusted heap of junk. we got several quotes to get the spa up and running and contemplated tearing it out when ken offered a solution almost 1/3 less than anyone! once running he discovered some jets not working properly and many leaks in the original plumbing. he made several attempts at just fixing them and because parts were no longer available he retrofitted the entire spa. works great, he said he could bring that hot tub back to life and he did. good guy, sincere in making things right. thumbs up. read more
