I first went to Salsa Latina in 2009 when I lived nearby right after graduating college. I have always loved it but stopped going due to the neighborhood getting more seedy and parking being difficult to find. I am SO HAPPY they moved to New Scotland! So I returned with my family of 4 after 10 years of not going. On a Saturday around 5 we found parking less than a block away and were seated immediately. The music and decor are exactly what you'd want in a Mexican restaurant. Love that they've added some Peruvian choices and birria items. We had a medium mango house margarita, guacamole, kids chicken tenders, kids beef enchilada and fries, combo 10 with beef tamale/enchilada/1other thing I forgot and the carnitas tacos with rice and beans. All so delicious and fresh! I did. It expect my carnitas tacos to be sooooo filled with meat so I was very impressed. Also, sign up on their site and you get an immediate 10% off coupon which I believe also applied to my alcoholic beverage (which doesn't always happen with discounts). This is my favorite Mexican restaurant in the area. Why? Tacos de carne asada. I go here all the time (every two weeks). They are probably judging me because I order the same thing every time I'm there. The hot sauce is great, the tortillas are great. The boyfriend always gets different stuff and it always looks good. One dish he loves is the brochettas of the sea - lots of delicious, steamy food! Only downside - they take their sweet time bringing you the bill. But they probably correctly assume you're out to dinner to enjoy the company of those around you, so no biggie there. read more

This review is for the Monday All you can eat buffet. It is available both during Lunch (11-3) and dinner hours. I've also eaten at Salsa Latina in the past, for dinner, from the regular menu, which was very good. When I arrived, every table in the place was taken besides 1 and I was offered to sit at the table or sit at the bar. That's generally a good sign. The lunch buffet was plentiful, filling, and tasty. It was also properly maintained. There was soft shells and hard shells for make your own tacos and there was chicken or beef in 2 of the bins on the bar. There was also a fixings station: cheese, lettuce, tomato, sour cream, guacamole, and a taco sauce. (It wasn't hot) In addition to the make your own taco section, there was soup, there was beef enchiladas, chicken chimichangas, two other chicken entrees (1 being roasted chickens quartered) rice, beans, and desert chips. The food was fresh and hot and each bin was carefully being watched and never let emptied. When the rice was getting low, a fresh large portion came out and was added and that continued on as I watched the entire meal. Everything tasted very good to great and The service was great! My water and Iced Tea was never empty. For the quantity and the price ($7) for lunch, ($12) dinner, plus tax, it really hit the spot on a cold rainy day in Albany. We ended up going here on a whim because Van's was closed and they are right next door, but I had been meaning to try it for awhile. The inside of the restaurant is nicer than you would expect. The food is more authentic than Bomber's or Moe's but I think that's about as far as it goes. The dinners are a little pricey but the portions are quite big. I ordered the Mixed Fajitas which consists of sliced chicken and beef with bell peppers, onions and tomatoes. Served with Mexican rice, refried beans, guacamole salad, sour cream, pico de gallo and three flour tortillas. Very good flavor, my only issue was the tiny tortillas barely hold anything and you need about 8 of them to use up the huge skillet of food they give you. If you have a coupon its worth checking out but the normal prices are too high. read more

I absolutely love this establishment. Friendly waitstaff, clean, amazing food and not overly priced. The amount you pay is super fair for the amount of food you receive. Drinks are good as well! There is an All You Can Eat Buffet every Monday for lunch and dinner. I highly recommend!! There is also a running special on Tuesday where kids eat for $1. Visited for the first time tonight and we have officially found our new go to spot. The menu has a good mix of Tex mex, more authentic Mexican, and even a smaller Peruvian menu so there was something for everyone. Our toddler ordered off the kids menu which at $4.95 was a steal. She DEVOURED her quesadilla and beans. I snuck a bite of both of course and can't blame her, the quesadilla was cheesy and buttery and the tortilla was perfectly crisp. I had the ceviche mixto off the Peruvian menu which was fresh, flavorful and bright and a really good healthy option that came with sweet potatoes slices, and roasted and blanched choclo (large kernel corn). My husband's carne asada looked amazing as well. Bonus points for such friendly service. Without us asking the waitress brought our daughter's food first which is always a plus. I also was able to sign up for a free birthday entree via their Facebook page and when I redeemed it i was emailed a second coupon. I have been here several times everything was awful tonight. It was my sons graduation. I brought it to the attention of 2 employees and they notified the owner and the owner didn't care. The drinks were awful and we tried to send them back they said you have to pay for them even though we drank less than 1/4. So we tried new ones the same awful. The food was terrible. We've come here at least monthly, our last visit was Friday November 30, 2018. Right in the heart of the "Little UN" strip on Central Ave, Albany, NY, roughly from Quail to Robin Sts. There are numerous ethnic restaurants on these blocks. So lots to choose from and lots of competition for the public's dollars. We have been here many times. And are never disappointed. They offer Tex-Mex fare, authentic Mexican dishes, and have added Peruvian cusine items such as cerviche and whole crispy red snapper. I've had the red snapper twice now and it is a unique treat. My wife enjoys the Tilapia Rancheros or steak fajitas. NOTE: if you're really hungry try the all you can eat $7 lunch & $12 dinner buffets on Mondays. Kids eat for $.99 on Sundays & Tuesdays, Margarita specials on Wednesdays. And futbol in Spanish is almost always on the bar TV. And modern Spanish language music is also played in the restaurant. Good selections of cuervas (beers) & tequilas, frozen, on-the-rocks, or shots. Many choices of tequila by quality and size of the margaritas. Also serve vinos (wines). Our opinion is that Salsa Latina consistently offers high quality food & drink at a great value. Our visit $87.96 for two entrees, three wines, two reposado ttequilas on the rocks, and tax. The two of us and two teen grandkids have had lunch here for under $50. Our server this evening was Mayela who was smiling and pleasant throughout a very busy evening. When you build a good experience.. Customers tend to tell one another about that! But a bad experience could really hurt a company so I try not to broadcast any bad experiences that I have with a restaurant nor company! However, This was most definitely the WORST EXPERIENCE THAT I'VE EVER HAD!! It's a typical Friday Evening in Albany, NY.. BUSY! I walk in and see that MOST tables are full all except for ONE table. As I stand at the bar waiting to ask for a drink and a desert; the Manager walks over and asks if I'm there for a "Pick Up Order". As I kindly let him know that I'd like a booth and a drink/desert menu. First he DEEP SIGHS THEN Thankfully to his defense, a KIND BARTENDER comes to his rescue and mentions that there's a booth available. I was HESITANT to sit down due to the UNCOMFORTABLE feeling that the "Manager" had given me. Still AGAINST MY BETTER JUDGMENT I sat down. I asked for a margarita when it came out; it was much stronger than anticipated. I took a sip and instantly DID NOT like the taste. I WAITED 40min for anyone to come to my table and ask me for my next order. @ First, I didn't make a Big deal over it due to the fact that I'm considerate and it's a Friday so of course it's busy! When the waitress FINALLY came around, I mentioned to her that the drink was too strong and I did not like the taste. Not once did she ask if id like anything else. I instantly asked her to return it which she DID NOT & I asked for a water. I kindly, asked for a desert and a water then went about my business. About 50min later, the waitress comes to retrieve my drink, water, and desert. Drink still FULL. Out of good faith I would have thought that perhaps because I did NOT like the drink, immediately mentioned it to the waitress, and asked for a water instead. That perhaps the drink would be discounted or taken off the bill. When I saw that it wasn't, without an attitude I mentioned it to the waitress. 5min (THE FASTEST TIME THAT I HAD SEEN WHILE BEING @ THIS RESTAURANT DURING MY TWO AND HALF HOUR EXPERIENCE) The manager INSTANTLY came over with an ATTITUDE & told me that the margaritas are naturally strong (agreed, however this one in particular I just did not like and I mentioned it to the waitress yet no attempts were made to rectify the situation) He said that he needed to make money and that when he goes to a restaurant; regardless if he likes the food or not that he still pays. In this economy, I can NOT FAULT HIM HOWEVER; not once did he apologize for the waitress not making mention of it. Not once did he attempt to rectify the situation. I wasn't asking for a free meal nor initially for the drink to be discounted. An apology wouldn't be sufficient. NOT ONCE DID I RECEIVE THAT!! I was charged my full bill MINUS $8 out of a $17 drink THAT I DID NOT DRINK!!!!! Upon leaving, I called to ask for the managers name because after paying and being treated as if I were wrong for not liking their drink. I didn't focus on the manager name. They told me that the managers name was ROBERTO CARLOS (not sure if it's accurate or not) However; what I do know is that even after hearing about my unfortunate experience in their restaurant not once did they apologize nor ask what they could DO BETTER IN THE NEXT TIME! It's so unfortunate, because I had genuinely liked this restaurant prior but needless to say I WILL NOT GOING THERE EVER AGAIN! Sadly, one bad review won't make nor break their restaurant BUT THEY CERTAINLY TAINTED MY EXPERIENCE THERE TONIGHT AND ILL NEVER BE GOING THERE AGAIN NOR WOULD NEVER EVER REFERE ANYONE THERE AGAIN!! read more

This is our go-to Mexican place. We've ordered several times during NY Pause and have been very pleased each time. We typically order their nachos and it is prepared with care (queso in separate container that we can add to the chips to prevent sogginess). Their salsa is always fresh, by mistake we ordered extra salsa and ended up with a quart size container. This has come in handy and we've used it for chips and other meals since then. Their guacamole is our daughter's favorite. I love the enchiladas and my hubby loves their soft tacos. We order off the a la carte menu since we're not huge on rice and beans for side dishes. I used to eat at this place, but it's been about two years since my last visit. It was good then, and its still good today; very good. Salsa Latina offers well prepared tex/mex in a clean environment with a well stocked bar. The service was very friendly and attentive. Portions were very generous and everyone was extremely happy w their meals. I started off with a margarita, hold the salt, and enjoyed a beef Chili Rellano and Chicken Tamale combo for my entree. Best Tamale I've had in a long while. The restaurant strip on these blocks of Central is really worth exploring. The female waitress / bartender with the curly hair (the only one there at that moment present in the restaurant and attending us) was more worried about 2 guys that were sitting behind the bar and the TV next to the register . We got our food and she Literally ignored us after that, she didn't check up on us , we were missing drinks, the food was cold and the rice was hard . We decided to leave and go else where because we were not being taken care of . We asked for our check and she had us waiting literally 20 minutes while she was flirting and telling jokes with the (2) guys that were sitting behind the bar. She would turn around to stare at the tv and watch music videos on the TV and to sing and dance. Had us waiting for 20 minutes . When we approached her about our check she gave us a nasty attitude. Tried to argue with us when we advised her that she shouldn't talk like that to a customer that's been waiting 20 minutes for their check . Very, very, dangerously close to five stars. After the close of Casa Oaxaca, the food at Salsa Latina is probably the best I've had in Albany--arguably on par with (or passing) El Mariachi. Our chips and salsa were AWESOME, with the perfect amount of spice and warmth (from the chips!). I couldn't stop eating them, and I probably would have been fine just drinking margs and eating chips. They have an incredibly extensive menu, which leaves me a bit skeptical, especially since they have a section of pastas and Italian-type foods. But don't let this deter you! Perhaps they want to be more worldly? Because I did see arepas and cassava and other tasty tasties on the menu, too. I was most definitely pleased with my chili colorado, which initially looked like a meat marinara, but upon tasting was nothing like it. Spicy and delicious, the meat and the sauce was perfect. Yum! Rice and beans, wham-bam! My friend also commented on how delicious her enchiladas were, and neither of us could finish our plates. The margs were pretty good, and once all was said and done, we were pleasantly surprised to find that we had arrived for a Monday margarita special--both margs were a mere $4.99. I ordered from this place tonight and it is definitely one of the worst Latin cuisine restaurants I have ever eaten from in my life. Im not trying to be mean, just honest. I have had plenty of good Latin food in the past so I know what Im talking about. I ordered the chicken tamales, which were nicely disguised in a corn husk which made me think 'oh these should be good'. Wrong. The chicken was shredded so thinly I thought I was chewing hair, the sauce wasn't what real mole is supposed to taste like, and the texture overall was awful. The Grande plate was just as bad. The burrito, taco, and enchilada was full of ground beef. I managed to peel away the poblano pepper and just ate that and the rice and beans. GROUND BEEF IS SO NOT REAL MEXICAN FOOD. I should have asked if they used ground beef or real steak beforehand but I relied on their description of the dish. Never going to order from them again. If you know what REAL Latin food is about, dont even bother with this place. read more
