Surgery is the only option and my research on Google concluded that insurance coverage for surgical correction of gynecomastia was almost impossible. I consulted with three plastic surgeons who quoted very high rates and, as expected, no one mentioned the possibility of insurance coverage. I had the good fortune of meeting Dr. Kotick last and, not only did he and his team make me feel very comfortable with their recommendation, but recommended that we try to get the surgery covered by insurance. Imagine my surprise when Dr. Kotick got an approval for what I guess was a male mastectomy or the equivalent thereof. What was truly incredible was that he got this covered even though I had no underlying condition accompanying my worsening man-boobs. This doctor has tremendous reconstructive surgery skills and an excellent bedside manner. In addition to being quite pleased with the outcome, I had very little pain during recovery. At my consultation we "tried on" several sizes and I was very clear with him on what I wanted. A family member had gone to a more reputable surgeon and I was hoping for the same, but that surgeon had retired. The day I arrived for my surgery, Dr Sessa brought out an implant that was ridiculously clownish and NOT what we had agreed on! When I questioned it his response was "everyone regrets it if they don't go big enough." Sitting there pre-op on a decision I had taken a decade to make, I was mortified. At the same time, I could hear him scamming my elderly mother in the other room on her botox, so I was distracted and appalled. I should have walked out, but it all happened so fast. I did insist that he bring out the size we had agreed on at the consultation, but he did not have it on hand. I settled for the smallest implant he had on hand. Since then, I have been a not-so-proud owner of an F Cup (i didn't even know that existed)! It's uncomfortable, unsightly and unacceptable! It has caused me a great deal of mental anguish and pain over the years and I hope to keep others from falling into the same trap! I am a health care provider. I had to have another rynoplasty by another plastic surgeon to fix all the problems and it cost me $15,000 that he caused.
