This was my first time at FloridaPro Computing. I went in with a failed hard drive, and unfortunately they were not able to retrieve my data. I don't fault them for that, and I appreciate the excellent customer service and communication throughout the process. There was one mishap where they were supposed to have texted me or called to let me know when my laptop was ready instead of emailed, but it's not a big deal. I appreciate it also that the staff were still being safe and wearing masks, plus there were other protocols in place including protective barriers. From the little bit of interaction I had, they appear to be savvy, professional, and compassionate. I definitely recommend them and will return if I need their services. read more

I have only lived in Tallahassee for about a year and this is the first time I have needed repairs on my Mac Book Air. I have used Apple stores in every town I have lived in. We brought our old iMac and back-up in because of the "black screen of death". We had used Florida Pro six years ago and were happy with them at that time. They did an initial assessment and told us they would attempt a transfer of data to our new computer, which we also brought in. We got a call and were told everything went well and we could take our items home. Upon further investigation at home, we discovered they had transferred info from someone else's computer to our new computer (It was password protected, so all we saw was the sign in name). Fortunately, they had not transferred our private data to someone else's computer! After wiping out the data that had been transferred in error, we were told our computer and back-up were ruined and no data could be salvaged. They refunded our money and said we could try mailing the hard drive to a recovery company but that would cost at least $1000. We decided to take everything to "Mac and More" for a second opinion. They were able to transfer everything from the back-up to the new computer and in just a couple days, we had our new computer back. If we had listened to Florida Pro, we would have lost thousands of photos and documents. read more

I have been using the computer services of a "big box" store for several years- even buying their tech support package. In the past few months, they have made my iPhone and MacBook WORSE than when I brought them in. I'm going to cancel that package and only go to FloridaPro! Absolutely everything was extraordinary- check-in, a phone call from the technician who went over all of my issues, and a less than 24 hour turnaround! Wife's 6S was playing dead starting last night (unable to restore / not cooperating with iTunes / refusing to show its SN...) and so after heading to the AT&T store (she's AT&T - I'm a proud Verizon client - along with the five others on our family plan (my wife is the AT&T holdout)), we learned that since it was still under warrantee, we'd be better off taking it to FloridaMac. Very pleasant process - pretty cool and minimalist interior. $42.00 and four hours later, we picked up her "returned to normal" phone. Apparently, being a Certified Apple shop means you have the super-duper Lightning cable that makes your iPhone restore! (just a little Apple rant here - and nothing against FloridaMac because we were very happy with the service and turnaround) How annoying is that to have a warrantied phone have some software snag (10.1 was already loaded up on it, so it wasn't an apparent iOS issue) and the consumer can't hard-start it / restore it him/herself? Again, the $42 was worth it to just make the problem go away - but not cool that it wasn't covered under warrantee. Reiterating our satisfaction with these folks though. They're the only certified warrantee shop in town. read more

Never take an iPad to be repaired here. We took our iPad here for an AppleCare repair. They can not fix anything on an iPad and just send it to Apple which makes them an unnecessary middle man. They sent the iPad for repair and lost it and blame Apple. Apple had confirmation it was delivered to the receptionist. It's been over a month and no closer to getting what should have been a 3-6 day repair according to them. No one should ever use them since they can't take any responsibility and seem to hope you just forget that they have lost your iPad. It would be one thing if they ever reached out. But the only time we have ever heard from them is us continuing to call and email them. I will make sure everyone I know will never use this business again. read more

I paid for a one hour appointment with Drew at Florida Pro to learn some very important details about saving my writing safely. (I am writing a series of fiction books.) He was clear, well-organized and competent. In addition he helped me with some other aspects of my Mac Book Pro that will make my writing more organized and much less frustrating. I am 68 years old and he knows how to work with us...ahem...mature persons. He made me a record of all he taught me in a very clear manner, so that will save me having to call him and say, "Duh, how did I get to the second step of this process?" I am extremely disappointed that I even have to write this review. In the past, I have had great experiences with Florida Pro. However, my recent experience with them has erased all of that good will and necessitated this review. Last Friday, I brought my laptop in for an initial diagnostic after my dog spilled a glass of water on the top case of my Macbook Pro. I have AppleCare+ for my laptop and knew that all of the damage would be covered, but wanted to be proactive about assessing the damage to the computer and ensuring that I could get all of my data off the device prior to sending it our for repair. I paid the initial $50 diagnostic fee and was informed later that afternoon that there were multiple component failures, but they would try to repair the device in house so that I did not have to send it out or deal with losing my hard drive. I was also told that if they could not repair the device, that they would send it out to Apple for repairs by end of day. I was told by Austin, the technician who handled my case, that I would be contacted by the end of day Friday with a status update. This never happened. Come Monday, I receive a call that the damage was so extensive that the repairs could not be done in house (and needed to be shipped to Apple). I informed them of my frustrations with the lack of communication and the fact that the device had still not been shipped out as discussed on Friday. I asked that the device be sent out as soon as possible, so that I could expedite its return. I quickly realized after this phone call that the Florida Pro staff had never once addressed the fact that my data may be compromised in the process. It was not until I presented those concerns to them that they even offered data migration as a potential solution to keep my data. To be clear, I had to ask for it... it was not offered nor mentioned without me bringing it up. I only knew about it because I had used the service in the past. Had I not thought of this at the last second and contacted them, I could have lost everything. Had they followed their initial plan and sent the computer out Friday, I would have lost everything. I agreed to pay the $150 for data migration to create a Time Machine backup of my computer to allow me to simply restore the repaired device to its original state. I brought in my external hard drive for the data transfer and was assured that a Time Machine backup would be created prior to sending out my device for repairs. To my surprise, I received the device and external hard drive back today, only to learn that no Time Machine backup had ever been created for my computer. Austin, the technician, informed me that he could not process the backup from my damaged device and was not willing to try to remove the hard drive and create the backup from an external device prior to sending out my computer to be wiped. Not once during this process did anybody from Florida Pro contact me to let me know the Data Migration had been unsuccessful. In fact, they even sent me an email saying it had been successfully completed and asked me to come in and pay the $150. The $150 is not the issue here though, the ISSUE is that Florida Pro knowingly allowed Apple to erase $500+ worth of licensed third party applications that I will now have to repurchase for myself, and never once informed me until I could not restore my computer AFTER paying them for the repair. This is unacceptable. Offering me a $50-$75 refund on a $150 service is not a sufficient remedy for the amount of money I am now going to have to spend because of Florida Pro's carelessness and lack of communication. Had someone from Florida Pro simply informed me that they needed an additional device to put the hard drive into to create the Time Machine backup, I could have got them one. Yet, nobody did. The damage Florida Pro has done now exceeds the cost of the repair itself... read more

I took my laptop to be serviced. They were nice enough during the consultation. They fixed the computer just fine as far as I can tell since I'm currently using it. This one star is for their lackluster policies and customer service. When they diagnosed my laptop (in person) they said it needed a whole new hard drive and they would replace it. Fine. Data migration is an extra $150. Holy crap that's a bit much for data migration but whatever. They emailed me the prices for both fixing the laptop and data migration. In email I said I couldn't do the data migration for $150 could they hold it for me for another month? I figured I'd pay for the data migration when I'm more flush, right? I skimmed their response email and it said $50 and the total of the repair and I just locked on that. In person when I go to pick up the laptop they tell me no $50 is just for holding it not the data migration. What? Ok. Fine. I misunderstood. I tell them never mind. So I take my laptop. I'm disappointed but that's on me not them. The next day I'm thinking about why don't they just give me my laptop if I'm not doing the data migration? They email me that they still have my laptop and they can keep it for $50. I respond in email no, I want my laptop. They say sure you can pick it up. Cool. I get there, and the young woman at the counter tells me it's $50. What? I'm like no I'm here to pick it up. Turns out they want to charge me $50 for my own damn laptop because Apple charges them if they keep the damn thing. THIS is where I'm pissed. The email that I read thoroughly this damn time didn't mention jack shit about charging me for my own property. I ask them if they can waive that. She says no. She says that Apple will charge them if they don't give it back. She says I can call Apple and see if they'll waive the fee. I do. Apple calls FloridaPro (or they say they did) and FloridaPro won't waive the fee for them EITHER. After this long ass rigamarole with them AND Apple, FloridaPro call me a few days later asking about what I want to do with the laptop. Furious, I hang up on the girl. When calling a previously irate customer you lead out with "I know you're not happy with your previous visit with us but...." Emotions are really a stupid thing, but somewhat important in customer service. I only started writing this review when I got an email from their automated system saying I owed them $50. Not just any $50 but that I was late with this $50. I didn't get a FIRST email/invoice saying I owed money for my own property, but somehow I got an email saying I was late. So I go to call them it's after 5pm. But I didn't press send. I said to myself after reading this I'm going to talk to them. I'm going to call them calmly and see what happens. I talked the manager Drew on Thursday. He claims Apple attempted to call them but never actually spoke to anyone. He said for all of my troubles if they still had the hard drive he would recover the data, in particular the pictures I wanted, for free to my email. I said for him to call me whether they sent the hard drive back or not. A week later I haven't heard back. Bravo. read more

The best in town!!! My macbook's display stopped working and I went to a place on Computer Repair Doctor to get it fixed, they quoted me $550 and said it was a logic board issue. Then I tried coming over here to see if it would be a little cheaper and they were able to correctly diagnose the issue I had and was able to cover the repair 100% under a warranty my laptop had through Apple! These guys are the real deal! Very nice and polite too! read more

About a week after I made an appointment to have my battery replaced in my phone, I showed up at the appointed time. But, they had NO RECORD of my appointment. They went so far as to say they didn't normally do batteries on Tuesday. And, of course they no longer had batteries in stock despite assuring me they had them when I called. Additionally, the gal implied I was FOS or even lying. Of course no apology was offered. Like I'd drive across town and try to BS my way in out of the blue. C'mon. So, now I'm at the back of the queue. Supposedly they'll call me when the batteries are in stock, maybe a couple of weeks. Once repaired, I'll update this. Let's see if things are handled well when they finally agree to work on my phone. read more

Took it to FloridaPro after, where they told me I could use my AppleCare and fix it completely for $99! I have an iPhone 5 which was not holding a charge. I took it into Florida Pro to have them replace the battery. This seemed like the logical problem. When I brought it in, I was quoted a fee of $100 for them to replace my battery. I was rather shocked at such a steep price for a battery replacement. The rep there did a diagnostic on it, and said because it is an older phone, it was considered vintage. This meant that it would not be able to accept all upgrades because it has an older operating system. At this point, the rep mentioned that we might consider a new phone. I hadn't even considered a new phone, which she said could cost about $1,000. I just wanted a new battery. So we went that route, which was a replacement battery. I had to make an appointment to bring it in the next day, at a cost of $100. I did this. A few hours later, I got a call from Florida Pro. I was told the battery had been tampered with by a third party, hence they could not remove my old battery safely. I had never had a third party tamper with my phone, but who was I to complain or question. I was left with a phone that still wouldn't work. The very next day, I took my iPhone 5 to the Computer Repair Doctors. I did not mention my experience with Florida Docs, just said I thought it needed a new battery because it wouldn't hold a charge. I left the phone with them for two hours and when I returned to pick it up, the battery had been replaced and they charged me a total of $29.00. It's working great now. I'm so glad I didn't fall for the pitch I got from Florida Pro. I don't know what their motive was for not being able to replace my battery or for their $100 fee to do so. Maybe they thought we'd go for a new phone if they told us our battery couldn't be replaced, that the phone had been tampered with by a 3rd party. I will never trust the Florida Pros again. I think they were trying to sell me a bill of goods. read more

This is my go-to for all my Mac needs. I had to bring in my office's MacPro due to a startup problem, and they diagnosed it, fixed it and I picked it up the next day. When I got it back it suddenly began the same problem as before, so I promptly brought it back and the team further diagnosed the problem and booted it up while I was there to confirm. The problem turned out to be with an external hard drive we were using, but the Florida Mac team was very patient, gracious and helpful. I wouldn't recommend anyone else to repair or maintain Macs in Tallahassee. read more

I had a problem with my screen display and they were wonderful with helping fix my phone although it took an entire week to fix (I understand that is out of their control since the closest Apple store is 3 hours away). The problem I had was when I picked up my phone. They claimed to have "given me my SIM card" when I am 100% positive the girl did not give it to me when I dropped my phone off. I had never dropped my phone off to get repaired so I assumed they held onto it and I didn't even think of taking the SIM card with me. When I went to pick up my phone they insisted they did not have it and did nothing to make me feel better about losing my SIM card. I had to go to the Verizon store and buy a new SIM card which was $25 out of my pocket that I should not have to spend. I will be going elsewhere if I have any more phone problems. read more

I was afraid I was going to lose my computer but Ed talked me through the process of resetting the fan on the phone. He is not only extremely polite, but also very knowledgable. A word of caution. My background: Mechanical engineer with strong background in electronics and computer applications. Started building and repairing my own computers as a hobby. My preference and familiarity are PCs but I am no stranger to Macs. My problem: My mother-in-law's 2013 macbook pro which would not boot. After running all the available diagnostics and tests I suspected the hard drive was failing but figured if there was any chance to recover that a repair shop may have other options. Customer Service: Great customer service. I didn't get the opportunity to interact with a technician but the receptionist was extremely pleasant and helpful. Repair estimate: I'm certainly glad the diagnostic was free because the email I received with the diagnosis and repair quote boggled my mind. They confirmed that the hard drive was failing. Their recommended course of action was a new hard drive and they offered to try and recover the data form the old hard drive. My issues: The quote for hard drive replacement with re-installation of the operating system was $350!!! The quote for the data recovery was $150!!! My solution: I picked up the macbook, got on amazon and purchased a hard drive (higher performance and much newer than the old one) for $60. A few screws out of the back and I was able to swap out the hard drives. The I performed a re-installation of the operating system over the internet (so easy with the Macs). All total it cost me $60 and an hour of my time. Most of that time spent sitting on my hands waiting for the operating system to install. To charge $350 is OUTRAGEOUS!!! As far as data recovery is concerned I have an external docking bay for internal hard drives. Recovering the data takes some technical knowledge but is quite simple. I would still call the $150 dramatically steep. My conclusion: How convenient that all the repairs came to $500 exactly. I don't use this word lightly but this place is a ripoff. Cost of my own repair: -replacement drive, $60 from amazon with a 3 year waranty -precision screwdriver set with torx bits, $7 at walmart -youtube video on internet re-installation of Mac OS X, free -1 hour of my own time, 30 minutes spent eating lunch while OS X installed Cost of data recovery: -external docking bay, $30 on amazon -another hour of my time read more

I went to this place back in July to have my computers fan and track pad cable replaced. Last week my track pad cable broke again so I brought it back in. They told me to call Apple to get an exemption so I would not have to pay another $130 for something this place just fixed. When I called Apple they informed that they have no record of this place ever even ordering the cable the first time I went nor them fixing it, however the did see everything they did when replacing/fixing the fan. When I confronted the owner he had no valid explanation as to why there is no record of them receiving nor replacing the cable back in July yet there was step by step notes of them replacing the fan. You could tell he knew there was something not right and instead of admitting it he denied there was anything wrong. I do not believe Apple would tell me a lie that makes this place look bad if they're the ones who certified them. Either way Apple completely replaced my laptop at no charge after I sent it to them and it took a total of 3 days. My suggestion is to just send your electronics straight to Apple so you know its actually getting fixed. read more

A couple of years ago we bought used Mac computers for Christmas for our five grandchildren who live with us. We ended up with three older MacBooks, a MacBook Pro, and an iMac. He was very professional and forthright with his diagnostic appraisal of what was wrong with each computer, what the repair costs would be, and whether they were even worth repairing.
