This place was amazing! Solid A++. Below are the reasons why: Parking: B As is anywhere in the Bay area, parking can be a bit frustrating and not ample enough. Flowerland had about 8-10 spots in front of it to accomodate for the lucky few who got there first. Fortunately, the areas on Solano has a ton of side streets and other areas to park temporarily while you can peruse the nursery. Staff: A Staff was really helpful and cordial. They had a front staff member making sure only a few people entered at one time (only 4 max in the gift shop) and they were pretty strict on this which was great given the COVID situation and showed they wanted ensure people's safety. They also were really amenable to getting our plant re-potted to another size of pot that we just bought there. They were also very knowledgeable. I know people may think it's a given because they work at a nursery, but that's not always the case and it was reassuring to know each staff member was there for the customer and avid plant enthusiast. Product/Variety of Plants: A+ If you came here looking for a plant, the chances are extremely high you're going to end up leaving with something; whether a plant or pot or book, they bave something here for everyone to include acoffe and pastries for those who went here as a tag-along. Also their assortment of plants was spectacular and they had a phenomenal range from shaded plants to full-on sun plants to smaller varieties in all shapes and sizes. They have a small shop inside with very beautiful indoor plants and knickknacks. They're also fully stocked with gardening supplies from soil to fertilizer and much more, and they have a very wide variety of all sorts of plans and whatever they don't have they can get for you. They are on the pricier side but the knowledge that every staff member has is worth every penny. I'll let you know what you can and should plant in different spots because they are knowledgeable and are not worried about selling you up on things rather telling you what you neee for a successful garden. Everything's right in Flowerland. So many flowers and outdoor plants, everything from succulents to herbs and edibles. The houseplant selection was big too and everything I got a close look at was healthy. We got cappuccinos from the Highwire truck then browsed for a housewarming plant to gift a friend. I went with a medium size maranta that was well priced for the size. Wish we lived here because nurseries and plant shops in the bay are so beautiful! I didn't have any questions about care but the staff was friendly and offered help while I was browsing. read more

Our really good friends surprised us with a beautiful plant as a housewarming gift from Flowerland. When they walked through the door with the plant my eyes were immediately drawn to the packaging and presentation. I was in awe that a nursery took so much pride, care and consideration in preparing the plant as a gift. Not only is the plant very cool looking, but it came in an exquisite planter that is both modern, classy and tasteful enough to fit into an home or environment. Along with the plant came easy instructions for how to optimally care for it. It's been a week and we're so happy with our new addition. The lovely greenery is going strong! My favorite local nursery! This place is sooo CUTE, I wish it was my yard. They offer a variety of indoor and outdoor plants and have recently added some rare plants (pink princess, thai constellation etc.). Had a great experience here yesterday. Brought an empty pot and a photo of where I wanted to place it. Was shown several plant options that would work with the light in the spot where I was going to put it. They potted the plant for me and I picked up a few greeting cards while I was there. Z. and I came looking for the perfect Christmas tree to celebrate the holidays, and found one very easily. These trees are nailed into their own plastic mini pot of water which itself is fastened to a wooden stand. This setup costs $5 if you don't bring in your plastic pot from last year. We didn't enter the nursery; instead we wandered around the Christmas tree displays just outside. There are trees of all shapes and sizes, ranging from tall and slender to shorter and bushier. They also have names, giving each tree its own personality. Some are even marked with their tree type: Noble fir, Fraser Fir, Nordman Fir, Grand Fir. They appear to all come from Washington state. We interacted with very friendly and welcoming people. Betsy in particular was easy to talk to and made us feel welcome even though we did not have an appointment. Flowerland was a lot of fun to browse on a chilly November afternoon. It's located near the Albany bart tracks on Solano Ave and seems like a great neighborhood stop for gardening needs. Their focus seemed to be on succulents, bulbs and other native plants that would do well in the winter months. Perhaps in the spring/summer their inventory shifts-not sure, but would certainly visit again to see what's on offer. The outside patio layout is pleasing to walk around and it's organized by plant types. Their inside shop was stocked full of delightful and woodland themed christmas ornaments, candles and indoor decor. They were a little pricey for my budget at this time but definitely unique and worth a splurge. One of a kind gift items, Flowerland is a great stop for garden themed goodies for holiday gifts, winter planting or just some relaxing browsing. Great little local stop! read more

Theee absolute best. Where I typically go to buy plants. Sometimes I just come in here to look as a see what they've got - as plants make me so happy. Their customer service is beyond helpful and polite. I have been back here numerous times when I've been experiencing plant issues, they delightfully take a look at all of my plants, diagnose them, and re-pot. Of course, I pay the potting service for this which is completely appropriate. A bonus: Highwire coffee roasters is in this nursery and delicious. They have an indoor nursery, limited to 4 people at a time. It's a nice safety measure during covid, but I didn't want to wait in line (and trust me there is always a line). Luckily, they have a robust outdoor section with a wide variety of plants. It was organized very well and the signs were clearly labeled so it was nice for a beginner plantie like me to browse through. Staff was nice as well. It can be a bit busy but definitely a great plant nursery to check out. read more

Such a cool spot. I give this place 5 stars mostly because of the vibe, knowledge and expertise of the staff and variety of plants, not because of the prices. If you want the same ol' plants at cheap prices, go to home depot - you'll pick up what everyone else has. Flowerland is my neighborhood nursery and they have 1.) a good selection of plants 2.) knowledgable staff 3.) rad vibe. I actually just like to come here on the weekend to grab a coffee at the high wire air stream trailer and stumble around aimlessly in the garden. The coffee is strong, it's beautiful, and I leave feeling very relaxed. I call my parents and when i leave my life feels complete. If you want a gift from their shop, you can find something very easily. Equally, if you are interested in building an herb garden, the staff is super knowledgable and can advise on the type of plant and how to care for it. If I had unlimited money, I'd spend all of it and live in their gift shop. They have stocked it full with cool plants, great art and awesome skin products. Terrible return policy (3 days?!), poor plant knowledge, and weak stock. Purchased a Kangaroo Paw (Anigozanthos), a highly drought and heat tolerant plant. It collapsed within 3 days, which means something was wrong with the plant, and it hosted an ant colony. They were closed on the 3rd day, brought it back on the 5th day. They stated they only accept returns within 3 days, no exceptions, and they told me that it must have been the heat. Really? It wasn't hot AND it was a ignorant statement for Anigozanthos. Only a specimen that had problems to start with would collapse. I can't recommend purchasing plants from Flowerland: (1) Return policy is ultra short - most nurseries have at least a week or more. (e.g., East Bay Nursery - 14 days, Berkeley Hort - nearly unlimited). Plant problems often crop up after 3 days! Their pricing is premium (high) so double the reason to be careful. (2) Don't seem to know their plants well (3) Weak stock (at least from some suppliers) It doesn't matter how nice a shop looks and how good the coffee is if your plants don't do well. read more

This is an amazing nursery with so many wonderful and unique types of plants. This is definitely the trendiest nursery I've seen. It is an excellent location to buy a gift as well. There is plenty of outdoor parking spots. They don't have a private lot that I know of. They also have a resident cat that roams around and is pretty friendly. There's an outdoor area and a small indoor area where you can find some exotic-looking orchids. In the indoor area, there are really cool gift items you can buy or decorative vessels to hold small plants like air plants. Outside, there is a coffee stand that sells amazing coffee with outdoor seating. What's best is that they're dog friendly. The folks at the coffee stand and in the gift store had small dog snacks to hand out to a dog we were with. This place is immaculately maintained and well designed. This place is a dream come true for plant lovers. I love all of the unique plants they've curated and the prices were not as high as I was expecting. I am in love with Flowerland. Not only do they have a pretty great selection of plants, flowers, and tools, the staff is very friendly and helpful. Tom, the resident plant expert, took time to answer all of my questions about finding a good shade plant for our balcony (and all of my subsequent follow up questions about which fertilizer to use, how much to water, when to bring it inside, if it's safe for cats, etc.). He clearly knows his stuff and was very patient and happy to answer beginner-level questions. For folks who prefer a casual browse experience over a "get in and out" type place, Flowerland is for you. A cute airstream trailer that serves Highwire coffee and tea is parked in the front of the outdoor space along with some cute tables and chairs for sitting and admiring the flowers. Dogs are welcome and we saw several wandering around with their people. Great selection of succulents, modern-looking pots, and plants organized by care preference (ground cover, shade, etc.). The inside shop has a lovely curated selection of home goods - trendy plant hangers, wrapping paper, botanical prints, jewelry, candles, perfume, and lots more. I really dug their outdoor furniture as well. It seemed like they carried a large selection of Fermob's folding tables, chairs, benches, and rockers. We bought a large, leafy palm for $78 that I'm sure will be a great addition to our patio. Can't wait to come back! read more

Was turned on to this little gem of a place by our landscape designers to "check out. " Definitely not your run of the mill, Home Depot selection of plants. We found ourselves reading care labels of practically every plant, creating beds we don't even have. Like a kid in a candy shop. It was apparent that they had a passion for their plants instead of supplying product for filling the shelves. Bonus treat: there's a coffee trailer and small seating area. Went into flower land this morning...just browsing when the cat they have scratched my daughter. I immediately disinfected it, and a few hours later noticed it swelling. I called to ask if the cat has all of its vaccinations and the girl on the phone said "as far as I know it does." Ummm....ok could you find out? Was my response. She said she could find out and call me back tomorrow. Ok, once again no. I need to know if I need to take my kid to the hospital, like right now. No apology, no "oh my gosh I'm so sorry our cat walked over to your 11 month old and scratched her", nothing but attitude. Called back and the girl was nicer but still no answer. Off to the doctor we go... Just got a call back. No apology or concern at all for the fact that their animal came after my daughter while she was just standing there. Sunny said the cat has all its shots and that was pretty much it. That's too bad they have no care at all for a little girl who got hurt and scared in their establishment. read more

I went here back in April while strolling on Solano. The lush, gorgeous plant displays lured my gardening-addicted soul right in. It was like walking into a plant lover's dream--exotic edibles galore in gorgeous displays and abundant variety. That characteristic Berkeley scent of sweet citrus blossom wafted through the whole place. The business really resembles a park with all of its plant beauty. I don't know how thy managed to stylistically place so much in what is really not that much space, compared to the inventory. The staff offers to help me right away, as I silently ooh and aah over the beautiful array of citrus varieties and tropicals that we could never grow here in VA. I mentioned that I was in from out of state but that I needed help with a plant dilemma--my plant babies had the dreaded citrus scale, and I just couldn't shake it. I had tried it all to no avail. The lady gave me the simplest, most glorious of organic recommendations--spray the plant down with water, soak the smaller plant container in a bucket of water until the soil was fully saturated with no air bubbles and water the larger one every hour for a few hours, fully saturating it, then spray the plants with neem after they dry, finishing off with a few inches of worm compost as a top dressing. The water got the ants out, the neem dealt with the scale and, Eureka, the worm compost did its work to keep it all from coming back. I had my prized calamondin and limequat thriving like never before in a few weeks. I can't thank the people here enough. This is what knowledgeable, passionate staff and a truly standout nursery look like. You must check this place out! What a gem you have in Berkeley. read more

In the summer we moved to Albany and being around the corner from us it's impossible to miss that Flowerland is such a beautiful nursery. I love that Highwire is right next door and can grab coffee on my visits. However, each time I've been here, the staff are NOT welcoming to me. The first time, I came in with my young child and assumed that maybe his energy (from being on the spectrum) was not welcomed, so the second and third time, I left him at home. This allowed me time to observe how the staff treat others and realized that there is implicit bias at play. Everyone else (not of my skin tone) is asked if they need help, get their questions answered quickly and kindly, others aren't hawk-eyed observed as they peruse like they're going to steal something. Even as I am paying at the counter, card in hand, there is a coldness and inability to make an inkling of small talk customary of cashiers. This last time, I went because I was craving Highwire and decided that I was already there might as well look for a Chinese Evergreen. No one cracked a tiny smile or approached me to ask if I needed a thing. Since this was my third time, I already knew what to expect, I pulled out my phone and opened up an app to identify the plants I was seeing and figure out which would work best in our home. Now I am debating if we should or shouldn't get our Christmas tree from here or if I should just take our family elsewhere. The quality of their plants is undeniable, the distance is convenient, but I don't know if it's worth the emotional toll. read more

Flowerland superficially is a beautiful and inviting business when you walk around and look at the selections. Once you actually conduct business, you realize that this is a corrupt and dishonest operation. Last year, we bought several expensive trees (fragrant magnolia, smoke tree, two Japanese maples,...) worth hundreds of dollars, maybe over a thousand dollars. They all died despite good soil, amendments, careful watering, and everything else that our other trees were thriving in. This was our new and first home, and we were looking forward to making its garden (at the purchase time only a few bland shrubs and cacti populated the large space). I took the issue to Flowerland and the clerk, who also introduced herself as a manager dismissed it in only one sentence that they only provided refunds one week after the sale! This is an absurd policy and even a worse business idea. Flowerland basically conned us out of hundreds of dollars with bad materials. read more

Reason for visit: Daddy wanted a kefir lime plant Visit date: April 27, 2016 First time: No. The last time my avid gardener Dad was in town I brought him to Flowerland and he was impressed by the selection and that they had kefir lime plants. Since he couldn't bring a plant back home at the time, we went back for it on this visit! I called ahead to make sure Flowerland still carried them and had some plants in stock. The man on the phone was super helpful. And when we arrived to check the plants out, they walked him right on over to take his pick. Customer service game on point. I enjoyed perusing the garden and plant varietals. It's easy to be inspired and dream up a garden space (or in my case, small patio space) with Flowerland's display ideas. They carry an assortment of indoor and outdoor plants, ceramics, garden decor, and patio furniture. Plus, you can enjoy a cup of coffee in their garden space. read more

Ok, this is a hard one to review. Let's just start with the basics. Nice and clean, easy to browse the grounds. A nice selection of plants with some harder to find varieties. These are all bonuses. Prices were on the high side. Then I felt like I entered the twilight zone. When interacting with the staff they all seemed like they were in a cult. Friendly but bizarrely reserved. Felt like they were watching me and my family the whole time. I had an appointment which you need to make prior to going. I showed up with my four teenage kids which sent them in a tail spin. One reservation equals two people. I could not find that on their website when I made the reservation. Apparently it was so important for me to know that, that the greeter called out the manager to school me on it. The interactions with the staff were weird. read more

This semi hidden nursery is the cutest! I loved how they have a little coffee shop in it too :) the atmosphere is so relaxing, but I may be biased because I'm a plant person . Their plant selection is great and I highly doubt if I came here again, I wouldn't leave without a plant.
