I have a life hack to share. Anytime I need to send flowers, for any occation, anywhere I call the local funeral home and ask for a recommendation for a local florest. When my DIL's mother passed away I already knew the big florists in town but wanted to support a business who could provide a personalized bouquet. Washbur-Mcgreavy gave me Miss Berth'as info. I called and had an excellant conversation about what I wanted. She was attentive, knew her stuff and ($$ wasn't that important) was able to order a basket just perfect for my DIL that was very reasonable. I gave them my price range and they created a beautiful arrangement and delivered within two hours. She loved them! 2. For some damned reason, I was put in charge of decorating for my mother's birthday. I'm sure this mistake won't be repeated. So first, I try Yelp. Someone really needs to get this party stuff on Yelp straightened out. What is near me and classified as party supply? Pancho Villa, a nearby Mexican restaurant. Smitten Kitten, a sex toy shop. Okay, I get this, some sort of chick/bachelorette party thing. But I'm trying to prepare for my MOTHER'S birthday, and these two ideas do not belong in my brain at the same time. Somebody from Yelp owes me a drink for instilling this dangerous a level of cognitive dissonance. A mile or two further, party rental places start popping up. Dude, I want some freaking streamers and a "happy birthday" banner. Maybe some balloons. I don't need an inflatable moon room. I almost began to miss the Miami suburbs and their party supply megastores on every block. I figure out a few nearby places to try, figure Target is a fallback, and then I am informed that flowers and balloons are a must. Well fuck, that won't work. Now what? Then it creeps through my thick skull that I live within walking distance of at least four florists. This suddenly became the easy part of my tasks. So I stroll down the street and swing into Miss Bertha's. "Can I help you?" asks the nice lady, Miss Bertha for all I know. Yes, I need a flower arrangement for a birthday. "How about this one I've just made?" Yeah, that's great. How about some balloons? "Sure, I've got some "happy birthday", some "I love you". This is the best floral shop I've ever been to! I've gotten three arrangements from her in about a year's time, and every single time she just blows me away with the quality and value that she provides. The place is run by a little old Hmong lady who speaks English well enough, but with a thick accent, so be patient with her. Also, she's not always able to answer the phone quickly, but just leave a message or keep trying. She *will* get back to you. I've always called and described what I wanted, told her how much I wanted to spend, and when I show up to pick it up, it's always *so much more* than what I expected. The flowers got delivered a day later than I had chosen so I was a little bummed about that but when I called, the staff were super friendly. They explained that they are a very small shop. I ordered flowers on-line in advance and received and on the day they were supposed to be delivered i received an automated email saying they were delivered... Well they were delivered to someone but not to my wife... I called the florist and they had no idea as to what happened to the flowers and they claimed they would have to locate the flowers before refunding my purchase. The next day I have learned that the driver delivered the flowers to next door office and never bothered to communicate that to anyone (not even to its employer). EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED.... I ordered flowers the night before that I needed them delivered for a NOON delivery. I put a special note on my order that I needed the first half of day delivery. I called and left a voicemail that night, saying that I would be happy to pay a expedited delivery fee. I called again the next morning at 8AM and again left a voice message stating the same thing. I called them AGAIN (the 3rd time) at 11AM to find out that nobody had even listened to my messages or ready my special note on the delivery... When I said that I was disappointed and wanted to cancel my order becuase the flowers would not be there in time by the time the recipient would be leaving, the lady on the phone with me made it seem like this was my bad or my fault!
