I don't feel like we got our money's worth and here's why. I ordered a bouquet and a box of chocolates for a friend of ours. I saw what was received and really didn't feel like we got our money's worth. The flowers, although fresh and well arranged, were grocery store flowers, and the box of chocolates was a candy bar. I am grateful that whoever arranged the flowers took it upon themself to gussy up the bar of chocolate with some cute ribbon, but I purchased "Box of Chocolates", not "gas station chocolate bar". If these were for a good friend or family member and not a distant former colleague's partner, I would have been mortified by what they received Even though it missed the mark for us, I understand that small businesses have to cut corners sometimes, but it seems that's not the case with this business. When I was placing my order online I saw an additional "service fee". An explanation of the fee appears only at checkout and states: "Good News! This applies to first-time online orders only. We appreciate your repeat business, so you won't see this charge next time you order using the same email address."  We promptly called to ask for an explanation as to what exactly that fee is for. The nice young lady who answered explained that it was a third party fee for their tech provider that does their website and e-commerce. I intially assumed this was a separate and unaffiliated third party, but when my husband asked if that was the case, we were reluctantly informed that their shop was recently acquired by the big tech company that charges that fee. Which sounded weird because why would a tech company buy a flower shop and why would it also need to charge a service fee if they own the shop?? Super strange... So,I guess this 'service fee' is about ten bucks that isn't going towards the flowers, the box of chocolates; (or in this case, chocolate bar) it's not even going towards the delivery or as a gratuity to anyone making or delivering my gift. I've bought flowers many times before and when I order directly from a REAL florist, I've never been charged any sort of fee that can't be accounted for or justified. Bottom line is if you want to pay at least an extra ten dollars and then some that won't go towards your flowers, the staff, or anything else you might be ordering, this is probably what you're looking for.  If you're looking to get what you pay for though, I would recommend going through a real local florist, not a big tech company like the folks who apparently now own Flowers by Reni. read more

I used to go and say give me a $20 bouquet and they would pick out flowers out of the case with baby's breath nice tissue paper and ribbon and it really looked beautiful and the packaging was beautiful. So I went there yesterday to pick up a $20 bouquet, they went to the back cooler and pulled out a premade bouquet like they have a shoprite but it was $18 and change. At shoprite they're like $15. I just wanted to write a response to the owner and clarify something: at no point did I ask for a discount for the donated vases; I'd like to think I have a little more class than that, and I don't appreciate the owner is giving the impression I was looking for a handout. Here's exactly what I said in the email to Reni's: "Caroline, to say I was underwhelmed with the floral display would be an under statement. The arrangement was sparse, had a lot of cheap flowers, and looks like it was put together in about thirty seconds. So much for going for "TLC".. I thought especially after I donated all those vases you guys would do a good job. If I spent $50, maybe, not $100. I spend a lot of money to ensure a nice, full, well thought out display with not a lot of cheap flowers and thought put into it. " (meaning, I felt I got $50 worth of flowers!). Highly disappointed. Usally I let you guys know when you did a great job, but not this time. Again, I do not beleive this time the manager looked this bouquet over as I requested. It was not well filled, the flowers were not particularly fresh, and not well thought out. Reni's/the owner argued they gave me fair value. For $100 I can and have gotten some gorgeous displays filled to value, but it was mailed in this time. It is what it is, and so much for taking the advice of leaving it up to the florist. Also, the owner states that Mother's Day is very busy, which I understand. That's why I PURPOSELY have the strategy get flowers early in the week so they get the attention they deserve, but it was still subpar, and here's my email to Reni's regarding that: "Hi Caroline. I was wondering if you could put something spectacular together for a May 9th delivery for Mother's Day (I try to beat the crush) for $100, plus taxes, etc. If you could give it your personal TLC, it is greatly appreciated." This review is exclusively regarding our customer service experience over the phone. We ended up not doing business with this florist. Please take that into consideration. Our friend, the Best Woman, brought the bouquets and centerpieces the previous day for the venue to set up. Unfortunately, one of the primary floral selections the bride made for her bouquet - the hydrangeas - were wilted and fading fast. They are a flower that just happens not to do well in a day of heat, much less multiple days, which I discovered with a quick Google search. And this was a WARM weekend, and an outdoor wedding to boot. The day of the wedding, the Best Woman's date and I decided to take it upon ourselves and find a florist who would hopefully be available to salvage this bouquet for our bride. My ex-husband worked as a florist for a while in Connecticut across from a seaside resort that hosted many a wedding, and more than once he's had to save or a bouquet or a corsage/boutonniere. He knew how stressful these events can be when such important details go awry, so he always did so with sympathy and a smile. I honestly thought I'd find the same service from florists no matter where I went. The woman who answered the phone, while going through the motions and putting on a polite tone, proved me wrong. We explained multiple times what flowers were in the bouquet and their colors, and reiterated that we just needed the wilted white hydrangeas either replaced with the same flower, or honestly any other white flower that she might think would suit it and do well in the warm weather. She spat off the inventory, basically stating with her tone that she had nothing that suited our needs. She then asked, with a voice that carried a tinge of foot tapping impatience, when we needed it finished by. We called at 9 AM, right at opening, and said we could have the bouquet as late as 2 PM - the service was nearby at 4 PM. Even with this time window, she said it would be hard but doable, and that she needed to know if we were coming in. I looked at Yelp and saw there were other options in the area, so we passed. Honestly, based on the other reviews, I am sure they've been a wonderful florist for many an occasion. And it is a lot to ask for help on such short notice. And it was first thing in the morning on probably a busy event day already and the stress of all that might have contributed to our poor experience. I am always one to give benefit of the doubt. But she could have simply passed on our business with a friendly "I wish we could, but it doesn't look like we have the proper inventory for your needs at the moment; and while I would be happy to try and search for flowers that might work for you, we are just so swamped right now and I unfortunately don't have the time. I'm sorry." and I would have been more than fine with that. That would have been professional. Instead, she just wasted both of our times going through the motions and making us feel like an inconvenience to her. TL;DR version - You can still do good business even when you are essentially turning down potential business. read more

Last week my boyfriend and I had a Housewarming party and I wanted to add some color to the new place and thought flowers would be a nice touch. I went on yelp and look for the nearest florist, which brought me here. The woman who help me was so nice, friendly and beyond helpful. I told the woman i wanted to spend $30 on flowers. I told her the colors of the living room and she took 5 minutes and made a gorgeous arrangement of flowers. Jenn, (my personal fruit fly) and I thought the flower arangment was going to be around $45. When i asked how much it would come out to be the woman replied, "$19." I was amazed. I used them 2 years ago for a funeral and was incredibly unhappy with the amount of $$ I paid for the saddest looking arrangement. Expensive, limited selection - works only off the designs on Proflowers per their statement.- will not work with you or create something original PLUS they are owned by the same funeral homes that send you to them for service, so they have no incentive to please. If they do a lousy job, they will not lose business a told to me BY the Funeral Director at Allen in Millbrook. My personal experiences is as follows: I wanted to send Funeral flowers for a deeply beloved family friend 5 days in advance of the viewing & since The Hudson Valley Funeral Homes group who bought out Allen Funeral Homes some time ago link to this florist, I assumed they would be polite and helpful the way Allen's previous recommends had been over the years. In a word, NO. The woman who took my call was busy talking to somebody else, distracted, rude & was chewing gum while only half-listening to my requests & needs. Without giving me more than a mere moment to explain what I was looking for, she cut me off in mid-setence & offered to send between 18 and 32 white carnations for the amount in my budget ($100 to $200). I tried to get her to work with me but she told me their shop "don't do anything" but "what Pro-Flowers lists." With that grammmar and such enormous discourtesy to a long distance caller, I assumed her to be a teenager, thanked her for a time but told her for that amount of money, I could buy a bouquet and fly there myself on a coach ticket. She merely laughed at me & hung up, not at all concerned that she blew a potential $200 direct sale, a portion of which she would NOT have to have forked over to a national Brand. for booking the order. Bad business practices all around but I was hurt because I grew up in Millbrook and Allen Funeral Homes has laid many freinds to rest. I felt the funeral Director should know what kind of lousy florsit he had sent me to and ask him why he wasn't using the numerous local florists with better reviews and 50+ year histories serving catholic Funerals in Millbrook. When I mentioned this disoncerting experience to the one Funeral Director who actually answers his phone at Allen Funeral homes, after days of trying to get through, he assured me the gal I spoke to was "Reni herself" (since then, other locals still using Allen explained to me the place has changed hands and that the Funeral Director was likely too new to know or even care that the woman I spoke with was not Reni but simply the current person operating the business for their funeral organization or as a subcontrator). Be that as it may, this Funeral director, who was eating while he spoke with me confirmed that the rude woman was not a teenager but an adult "who acts like a kid and laughs a lot, right?" These were THE FUNERAL DIRECTOR'S WORDS TO ME, not mine!! And then he proceeded to imitate her donkey-braying laughter! Can you imagine? When I told him I thought he might want to know how rude she was and that he might wish to direct mourners elsewhere he said "Oh, that's fine with me because we OWN that Shop so we're gonna use her no matter what anyone says." YIKES! This sure doesn't sound like the old Allen Funeral Home in Millbrook but apparently now, Profit is king and compassion is crap. The name of the Business is Flowers by Reni and the Funeral Director DID called her Reni, I neitherer know nor care who she actually is since it seems that the original Reni or one of the successive owners sold this shop to this Funeral Conglomerate that has a virtual lock on all the funerals and the flowers sent to them in Millbrook area unless you are smart and get around their attempt to maximize profits. My advice to mourners who see that link on the Allen page is to SKIP IT & instead use Telefora NOT FTD . Furth.er, be sure to specify Flowers By Reni is NOT to be used in your extra instructions She's not currently on Teleflora's approved list but is on FTD's and the controversial Pro Flower's approved lists ( Por Flowers has mixed reviews, often bad when it comes to funerals). Also, why would you spend that kind of money to send a paltry bunch of cheap grocery store flowers all the way from Fishkill to a Formal Viewing in Millbrook, NY? By the time they got there, they could be half dead. Teleflora uses other, geographically closer florists & my arrangement arrived without a hitch. Teleflora was respectful, kind & even honored the Facebook 20% discount code (FBOOK20). For half of what this rude woman wanted for 36 carnations, I got a HUGE Standing Spray set against River Cane in the shape of a large Cross with Dendrobium Orchids, roses, ferns, and much more. Don't waste your time with this shop. I wouldn't trust this shop to send Dandelions to a Teddy Bear's Picnic. read more

The shipping is always as much as the flowers and the flowers always arrive nearly dead. This time, I ordered some lilies through Reni's easy and quick online store. I've had back to back fantastic experiences with this shop. One was a "just cause" occasion where I wanted to butter up the lady with some surprise flowers. I walked in with a target price in mind and let the woman behind the counter handle the creative part. 5 minutes later I had a beautiful bouquet of seasonal flowers to bring home. Two weeks later it was Valentines Day and what better gift to give then some flowers. I hopped on the old inter web and looked up the Flowers by Reni website. Placed an order to go in about 30 seconds and stopped by to pick up on the way home from work. A little bit of a wait despite ordering ahead but what can you do...It was Valentines Day and the shop was filled with about 10 desperate men who had waited to the last second. Luckily for them Reni's will take care of you no matter what the situation or circumstance. Flowers by Reni are sickening. They never send what the have on their website nor are their bouquets even remotely close to what is pictured. All they ever do is put in a bunch of green fillers and skimpy flowers. I love my man's kind gesture to put a smile on my face. However, when I see flowers by Reni it infuriates me because they are a rip-off. This is the third time and I can tell you one thing they are consistent with skimpiness and fooling people with their website displays. I wish FTD removes them from the local area. Flowers By Reni designed the bridal bouquets for our May 24th, 2015 wedding. The bouquets consisted of fresh, beautiful Hydrangeas, roses, and other good stuff. My wife was extremely pleased with the bouquets, and primarily her bouquet, which was the subject of much compliments on our wedding day. From the consultation in February, to the delivery of the bouquets, the Flowers By Reni staff was incredibly helpful, knowledgeable, and kind in making proper design suggestions to not only fit our budget, but also meet our floral needs. I would highly recommend this cute, quaint flower shop in Fishkill. Manager/designer Caroline McCloskey is such an incredibly kind and sweet lady, with a talented staff. My husband ordered flowers from this florist for our anniversary. We have used them in the past. When I received them, most of the roses were brown tipped and looked like they would be dead by tomorrow. My co-workers agreed with me that the flowers looked old/dead. Also one of my co-workers who had gotten her daughter's prom corsage at this florist said they had the same reaction to her flowers and that they were dead before the end of the prom. When I called to let Flowers by Reni know about the old/dead arrangement, I was told to "just pull the brown edges off". Eventually they agreed to come back and pick it up but told me they would not give me a new arrangement and that they would swap out the bad flowers. When they re-delivered it I noticed that all they had done was pull off the dead petals. Some of the flowers even had holes on the sides where all of the petals were removed. We'll see how long they last. VERY disappointed. My advice to all reading this is to call 1-800-FLOWERS or use ProFlowers.com instead. I've seen arrangements from them and they are not old or dead or wilting and hanging on the day of delivery! read more

Recently I accompanied my father to order flowers for a funeral. We chose a piece and added white roses for an up charge. The clerk assured us that she would choose a wonderful florist in NJ where the funeral was being held. I trusted her since I have used Flowers by Reni before. The job was sent to Florals by Jason Peter in NJ. The piece that was sent was not what we ordered. Instead of green plants there were spring flowering bulbs stuck in a basket. There was not a rose in sight. I returned to Reni's to let them know. They offered to contact the NJ florist, but nothing else. I again called them a few days later and was told that the NJ florist had not gotten back to them and they would try again, but they told me I should probably call them myself. No offer to refund money for the piece or the very least the roses. I showed a picture of what was sent and the reaction was Oh that is not appropriate for a funeral! Needless to say I will not use Flowers by Reni again. read more
