My husband loved his haircut by Danielle. After seeing and loving a few different people, after a few cuts, they were no longer working there and that was extremely aggrevating to the point we were going to give up and stop going there. We decided to give it one more shot before saying farewell to this place for good. we saw Danielle and have continued to stay with Floyd's since! Hopefully this one sticks! She gave a wonderful haircut, his favorite so far. Her expertise and attention to detail is great, my husband can be a little picky with his haircut and stylist. I just got my summer hair cut and beard trim. I was able to call and make reservation for the same day. I came in really feeling down. Before I left I had a huge smile on my face. The gentlemen who did my hair and beard was so nice. He didn't force conversation. The music was 90s music, which I really enjoyed. Booked online shortly before the 6:30PM appointment. The shop is pretty big, about 16 chairs or so inside, that's a lot. Got to the counter and Brian was at the counter, he looked up my number and found our booking after asking if we had booked an appointment today. He had said they are fully booked. I told him there was an opening for one spot at 6:30PM. He found my appointment at least. The hair dresser took my husband to the chair early, not to shabby. $31 for a Floyd's cut. Olivia cut my husband's hair. I should have been by to make sure my husband didn't confuse the length to cut. Husband asked for her to leave a finger length or so, but he meant to say 2-3 finger length at the top - that's where I cut it for him, so he can style it some. Hubby ended up with a cut that's just a tad longer than a buzz cut. Olivia was quick at least. Think it would have been good for her to double check since he came in with much longer hair, but will have to work on clear communication for the hubby to the half dresser next time. read more

TLDR: don't get your hair colored by Lexie unless you're planning on shaving it off or getting wigs. I've seen Lexie Carmichael a couple time over the last couple of years. She's been one of the only people I've trusted with my hair so when I wanted my best friends hair done for her birthday it seemed like a no brainer. We had a consultation and everything seemed to be on track. We got to the shop and off the bat, Lexie is super distracted. She's one of two people in the shop, she's answering phones, and trying to start my friends service, and taking care of other things. I stay with my friend through the initial haircut and then leave thinking she's in safe hands. I was wrong. The service started at 4:20, we left around 10:45. I came back to the shop around 7 . At this point my friend has bleach on her the majority of her head and it's on more than half of the roots. The bleach process was started around 5. She continues to bleach and I think it's rinsed out between 8:30 & 9. That's roughly 4 hours of bleach sitting on my friends hair. My friend then tells me that the whole time I was gone Lexie has been going back and forth answering personal calls, shop calls, and taking care of other things. I understand that something happened at home and I am very understanding of that and she should have had the professional curtesy to realize she couldn't focus on this and asked us to come back at a later time after the bleach was done. We continue with the service and she is still very distracted. We pick the colors. A red brown that Lexie states she will add more red too (red, orange, and blonde is what we are going for), a straight red, and a copper... my friend hair turns out brown, orange, and a couple of blonde spots(the only thing my friend is happy with). It is FRIED. Feels like straw. And the cut is completely wrong. I usually do my friends hair at home and even our at home bleach has never done this to her hair. This was my friends FIRST salon experience. We get in the car and my friend starts BAWLING. She doesn't understand how Lexie got it so wrong when she seemed to understand what my friend wanted. I message Lexie on Instagram like I usually do to let her know my friend is not happy. She offers to schedule to fix it and provide free treatments to fix the damage. She offers to go around corporate to give me money back, but says I can't be her client anymore if we do that. I say I need to think and talk to my friend the next day to see what she is open to. I message Lexie to see if we can have her fix the color and she pulls a 180 on me saying she won't be available to fix it or for any future appointments because we "can't see eye to eye". I tell her I'm confused where this is coming from because of everything she said to me the night before and then she blocks me with no response...I call corporate since that's clearly the route I need to take now. I was optimistic at first when talking to rep Jakob, and that quickly went away. I was issued a full refund for the service but considering the negligence of an ASSISTANT MANAGER that doesn't seem like enough. I spoke with the district manager as well and when I requested that Lexie not be able to do color as she clearly can't handle being an assistant manager and a stylist doing color, she said I can't do that because that is her "lively hood". Even though Lexie had stated during the appointment that she doesn't take new color clients and mainly does cuts. My friend is a content creator, that's how she makes money. She won't even look in the mirror or her phone camera after this experience. What about her lively hood? What about the damage that's been done? What about the unprofessionalism we experienced? Corporate has stated they've "taken the appropriate action" and I do NOT agree with that at all: the negligence Lexie showed while using chemicals is INSANE and she just gets to keep messing up more people's hair. read more

Stylist Angela C. was incredibly condescending and irritated toward my 5 year old son who wouldn't look up during the haircut where she sprayed so much water on his bangs that it was pouring down his face. No exaggeration. There is no reason why an adult that offers services to children should be this emotionally immature and reactive to such a small child. Do better. Bring Brian the barber that always did extraordinary with my kid back bc this is unacceptable, won't be back. read more

I came here trying to find a new barber since I was new to the area. I didn't realize the Floyd 99 is a national chain but my experience reflects that. I specifically called when booking to make sure that my barber was experienced with short men's haircuts since I do a #1 fade and hard part to the side on top. When I arrived the barber sat me down and immediately commented that her partner recently got a haircut and the stylist did a fade freehand. She said that it freaked her out and that was the first red flag since any skilled barber should be able to do that. She then commented that she's actually just a stylist but she does men's haircuts as well. Then she proceeded to very sloppily fade with a comb and clippers, changing guards every minute. This was one of the worst haircuts I've gotten in the last 5 years. I had to ask her to correct multiple spots where she faded since it wasn't consistent, and the hard part had a ton of stray hairs that she never cleaned up. The only reason this is 2 stars instead of 1 star is because as a first time visitor, they give you a free wash and hot towel after the cut. Overall I was not impressed. I'll give Floyd99 the benefit of the doubt that I got unlucky with my barber, but I wouldn't come here if you want a precise haircut. read more

Twice I asked for a particular haircut for my 5 year old son and didn't get what I requested either time. The haircuts were good, but not what I asked for. I asked for a high fade / Caesar. The first time my son was given a Caesar with a regular fade, not even a bald fade like I requested. I gave the barber the benefit of the doubt. The 2nd time his excuse was that he couldn't do it because he "didn't have time" because he had another appointment after. Mind you he said this before the cut. Needless to say that I was offended. I assume he was implying my son's haircut was less important than the next one as if my money doesn't spend like the next man's. If the barber lacked the skillset to give the cut he should've just said so. read more

Looks like they are under OLD management. I started going to Floyd's about 5 yrs ago and had to stop because the service was so hit or miss I refused to keep chancing it. After covid I gave them another try. The salon was fantastic. The atmosphere was positive and my cuts were always great, I usually chose one of the 3-4 "OG's" of the salon and was always super satisfied and throughly entertained every visit. I had an appointment for this past Saturday at 9am. We I arrived at 8:55am and all the employees were still sitting in the parking lot, no one had a key. I do not believe the door was opened until 9:15am. I ended up with one of the many new stylists and what a mistake. Uneven. Not smooth. No hot towel for the neck shave, no massage, rushed cut. Heavy, tense atmosphere. It was a very unpleasant experience from start to finish. I went to the Detroit Barber Company later that day and they fixed me up FOR FREE. I could not go on vacation with my hair like that. 24 hours later and I'm still salty about the whole experience. Never again. Fool me twice, shame on me. BUH-BYE for good. read more

Incredible service from a shoulder massage, shaving the back of his neck with a straight razor and taking a lot of time getting his hair just right we couldn't have asked for better. Kat was so nice and we'd be sure to ask for her again. It's well worth the drive wherever you are coming from. Cool staff, cool place. I usually had a great experience here, but the last time I came in for a cut I ended up getting ringworm on the back of my neck from scissors or clippers that weren't properly cleaned. I'm so grossed out by this place I don't think I could ever come back here. I tried to reach out to the shop but none of my calls would go through and ended up calling the corporate office and they have not done anything to reconcile this experience yet. This place needs to be more careful and clean. I've had to have dermatologist appointments and various prescription cream and shampoo to get rid of this persistent rash caused by this place. read more

I was in serious need of a haircut and made an appointment at Floyd's 99 in Birmingham. It's not like the sister strip mall store in Farmington Hills. This one is free standing just south of downtown Birmingham. The place itself gives off a very good vibe and the talent of the barber/stylists are equal to the task. Gina gives an amazing cut and is the new manager of this location. The shop runs efficiently, has a great website to view schedules and appointments are a breeze. A great value as well. I would recommend this and plan to go back again. Location Great spot directly on Woodward just south of downtown Birmingham. Across the street you will find a Ducati and Morgan/Lotus dealer if your into motorsports. Parking can be limited either in front or on the side streets. It is easy to get and out of the place with the traffic light timing. Atmosphere The inside is nicely done with a lot of music cover art and old brick walls. In the summer, their is a garage door that is opened which made the experience great. The building used to be an old auto shop, so it fits in well with the area. The art is all great, but the best part is the pool table available while you wait or if you have some time to kill. Service I went to Jenna Kitts who I have known for a while and the reason I ended up at the barber shop. Knowing her background, I would say they only hire top notch stylists. There were great little extras such as the hot neck shave or the back massager at the end to wrap things up. They are very hip and trendy but mostly super friendly and talented. My hair stylist is Sarah McCleary and she does an absolute outstanding job! I work at a salon and I still go to her because she is the BEST!! Her technique is superb and she is very fun and creative with an awesome personality to entertain you while you are there! I still find myself upset at this haircut...so time for this review. I came in to get just my sides cleaned up - they charged me full cut price for it. Even though unreasonable, I obliged. The lady who buzzed my sides got the length completely wrong a 0.5 is not a 1.5) and blended it wrong. The people who cut your hair here are cosmetologists. That in a vacuum could be fine, but they don't even know how to cut/buzz hair properly nor use the straight razor. This is a barber shop for god's sake. Floyd, whoever you are, either fix this up or rebrand, because this ain't no barber shop (nor salon, nor anything trustworthy relating to hair). Each time I go to Floyd's 99 I have a great experience. The haircut is top notch, and the products make me feel fresh. Its often full of people getting cool haircuts, so thats good that they can pull off many different styles. Yes, it will cost you slightly more than GreatClips. But if you care about having a good experience and having a super fresh haircut, its more than worth it. Word of advice: Book your appointment ahead of time, many people walk in and have to wait. We stopped here on a Saturday afternoon hoping the wait wouldn't be too long. We waited less than 10 minutes, despite it being busy. Theresa cut my son's hair, which is really thick and it had been several months since he's been to a barber. She did a great job, taking great care to ask about the length and making sure he was happy every step of the cut. I waited nearby on a comfortable bench. I posted pictures of my son's hair. Worst haircut I think he has ever gotten. I went in Friday night at 8ockock and a female barber cut his hair. I should have known it was gonna go bad when I told her we needed to keep the cowlicks in the back of his head long, so they can lay down. She insisted they should be cut short. I thought, ok maybe she has a different way of layering them or something... Just like I have always experienced, today after we washed and dried his hair they are all sticking straight up in the back. The whole cut looks hacked honestly, his ears and line up are so messed up. Then, the line on the top of his head... I just can't even believe you could mess up a line so bad. I will never ever come here again. I never make reviews! I'm super understanding of barbers but this is just beyond horrible.
