Got haircut from the owner Billy last Friday and loved it. I am a 42 year old man with voluminous long straight hair (mid back), he transformed to shoulder length in the most amazing way. Went with similar style (off-center part) either hanging loose or pony tail. Cut at least 6 inches so major work, about 45 minutes total. It hangs with perfect balance, wonderful shaping, and so much weight off my neck. Highly recommend him. He was friendly, courteous, and despite being in the middle of doing some maintenance around the property and being ready to go home due to no scheduled clients for the day, he squeezed me in at 3pm. I've been going to that royal oak location for the last 2 owners and this is my favorite stylist to date. Will be going back again. Good vibes all the way, nice ambiance and he's making changes to the building (paint and such) to hide the ugly HVAC and make it have better appeal. read more

I had my hair cut & colored by Marissa. She's a sweet girl. I took loads of pics for the kind of cut & color that I wanted. She listen & went about getting the job done. Neither the cut nor the color was anywhere close to the pics I had shared with her. But in the end I'm still happy with the results. Total cost $110. read more

Another awesome visit at Red's Barber House and Salon. The staff is SO professional. The weather was awful and I inquired about switching my appointment. Danielle said she would check to see if other clients were also rescheduling appointments and would let me know. And, she called me back promptly. Many businesses don't provide good customer service anymore. Danielle helped me with my appointment and Vita gave me a great cut/style. Great experience! read more

Went here about four times. Concept is nice, you can schedule appointments and they text you a couple of days before to confirm. Twice my appointment changed after I made it for some inexplicable reason. Most recent was last Monday. Called on Saturday to change it back to original time, then received a call a couple of hours later to confirm the appointment at the correct time. All was good until I showed up. Stylist who gave a good haircut, apparently took a customer who ran late earlier in the day which then had me sitting for close to 20 minutes. Nobody had the courtesy to come over and say anything about the delay or call me before I arrived. So I gave up and left. Got an apology call later but they had already decided that my business wasn't important to them. Went to new place today- Trim in Berkley. Even better haircut then I was getting here, and they have a sign that says if you have an appointment and show up 10 minutes late they will reschedule you. They have my business now read more

Reds is by far the best Salon that caters to Men too. IMHO they got: 1. Reasonably priced -- Check 2. Knowledgeable Stylists --Check 3. Polite and Courteous --Check They also don't force any product on you nor sell you on it. They suggest let you try it and if you like it buy it next time round. I liked that concept!! By far the best barber/salon I've ever been to! I moved away from RO almost three years ago and I always make an appointment at Redz when I'm back visiting friends and family. I've since lived in Washington, DC and Chicago and have not found a better barber shop/salon. :( I had a few good experiences - both myself and my fiance went there - then I got handed off to someone last min - who really did an awful color job - it had to be fixed the following morning - and still looks ridiculous. It was just BAD and they could care LESS. Obviously neither of us will go back which is a shame cause its super close to home. So Impressed!! SO happy with my new haircut! Reasonable pricing. They always offer coffee or water as soon as you enter the salon. Hair wash and scalp massage are heavenly. Very clean and well maintained. Love the comfy chairs in the waiting area. Last week my 13 month old son, my husband and I all had our hair done by Vita. -She is always so great and gentle with my son. And his hair is perfect, despite his wiggles. -My husband has been seeing Vita for the last couple years and has always raved about her. He typically goes every 2 weeks and has never had trouble scheduling on late notice. - For me: It was my first cut at Reds and I love, love, love my new style! Vita fixed up my long, wavy layers so my hair is so much lighter and has much more life without losing the length. I will definitely continue going back and suggest you do the same. read more

When I graduated from college seven years ago, I started going here and have been going ever since. They cut a mean head of hair and it's a pretty relaxed vibe, which I enjoy. They stylists/owners are pretty cool and the aesthetics are pretty nice as well. Moreover, I'm sort of always tinkering with my hairstyle every month and my stylist/owner never seems annoyed. Got a great haircut from Lidia at Red's Barber Shop the other day. In addition to offering a straight razor neck shave, they also shampoo and condition your hair after the cut. It was a great value for the price. Stop going to those generic clipper chains and come support a local small business. You will not be disappointed. read more

Got a rather bad hair cut. I asked that my long layers be trimmed. Trimmed being the operative word here. Came out with a horrible new style, deep choppy layers that I am still growing out 18 months later. $44 for a hair cut, this isn't a bargain. If you go here as a new client stay in control, be specific about what you want through out the entire process. I'm sticking with Tru in Berkley. Same price and better quality cuts. read more

I'm thrilled with my hair, the experience and the improved pricing over other Birmingham and Royal Oak salons! My husband has been has been going to Reds for years, under its former owners and name when it was a mostly a "barber". Although Reds isn't close to our home, he keeps going back because he simply can't get a better haircut anywhere! Now that it's a "salon" as well and because it's such a friendly (and nicely decorated) atmosphere, I thought I would give it a try for my long, colored hair. Well, I just had my 3rd appointment yesterday and again, I'm thrilled. One of the owners, Vida (sp?) cut and colored my hair. She is so attentive and pleasant. She addressed every concern I usually lay on my stylist (i.e. just the right color, additional shine, styling questions, etc) and then she offered her own suggestions to update my style. I can tell she enjoys what she does and she was telling me how inspired her stylists are feeling after returning from a recent out of town conference for the latest in the hair styling industry. Men, women and children were happily coming and going, pleasantly greeted and treated. One of the other reasons to try Reds Salon and Barber is that it's located off the beaten path, in a strip of businesses in a neighborhood just outside of bustling downtown where you can park for FREE, on the street right in front...no more struggles for parking as you would find in downtown Birmingham and Royal Oak!
