I had an appointment and they made me wait 45 minutes before being seen. The guy i was supposed to see spent the entire 45 minutes blow drying someones hair so I walked out without a cut. Extremely expensive for the service you actually get. Everything is an up charge. They can't keep employees around, ive been through 6 different barbers/stylists in 2 years because they keep quitting. I put up with a lot because it was close to home, but they've lost my business for good. read more

I have never written a review before but i am beyond upset after having my hair literally destroyed at floyds on 209 E Ohio st - I feel ashamed and I dont even know how i will look at other people I know tomorrow. first of all I walked in and went in person two days ago (Saturday) to request an appointment with somebody that has cut my hair before, this particular hairdresser that I know was there at the time but the person working in the front desk told me that she was booked that day and that she was going to be back tonight. I decided to wait for her and made an appointment tonight. I went in this evening to find out I was given an appointment with somebody else. I figured it wasn't a big deal, I told her specifically what i always tell everybody that has cut my hair in the past - i have not changed my style in years- she nodded and started giving me stroke after stroke with the cutting machine, I was telling myself to trust the process, she continued and continued until she pretty much cut the whole two sides of my head and left a bunch of hair on top, i feel ridiculous, i look at the mirror and i hate the way i look- i am beyond furious with what she did, i am even considering just shaving the whole head at this point, I am traveling in two days and she pretty much screwed me and my confidence on the trip- she took "a few dollars off" but it is not about the money it is about listening to the client and doing what the client wants instead of doing whatever you want and this includes both whoever was on the front desk saturday and the person cutting my hair read more

DO NOT GO THERE!! They charged me $19 just for a 5 min clean up of the back of my neck, something that is comped by EVERY other barbershop I've been to. I wasn't made aware of the price till after the trim, as I didn't even ask as I thought for sure it would be comped or $5 at most. I am in Chicago for 40 days on a work project and I wish I had found Ernesto at Floyd's earlier in the trip! Came in for a single process for my roots on Sunday and I'm back 3 days later for a 2nd appointment for a conditioning treatment and blow out. Don't let the name fool you, they service everyone! My regular barber just finished school and his schedule does not quite mesh with mine currently. I am woman who wears her hair bald or close to skin as possible. It isn't easy to find barbers willing to cut that low. I randomly decided to make an appointment at this location because it's not far from my office. I was nervous because prior appointments at another Floyd's had been canceled because no one could do skin fades. When I walked in the receptionist was nice. And Jackie was right in the front. She asked me about using a tool for cutting super low--I am a novice for those answers so I asked her to just go close to skin as possible. Not only did Jackie T get me right she did something no other barber has ever done: she asked if I was putting sunscreen and taking care of my head since I'm now skin faded. I was so impressed with the service that I've already made two follow up appointments--which is something else that was never offered in other locations. TLDR: don't go here with a short hairstyle unless you want a buzz cut I really wanted to give a positive review for this place as it is recommended by a lot of reviews + suggested by many magazines. However, the only positive was that my stylist (Tanesha) was very nice. I showed my stylist pictures of the inspiration for my haircut as well as pictures of my past haircuts that I wanted done again. I also told her what my previous stylist (from a different barber shop where I used to live) had told me to ask for to get the same cut. What I normally get is straight forward, 3 on the sides, tapered, and longer on top so i can add texturizing product to make it a messy fringe. My hair got cut so short I can't do anything. I can't side part it, I can't make it messy, it's nearly a buzz cut. My stylist herself was unable to style it and "left it up to me". When your stylist can't do anything with the hair they just cut you know it's bad. Additionally, my hair was not tapered at all so it's basically a buzz cut up to the top where I have a tiny patch of hair that's a little bit longer. It's so short I will have to wait months again to get it recut. It was such a bad haircut that I cancelled the headshots I was planning to have taken later that day. Finally, I also got the neck shave which left my neck raw for 2 days and I also got nicked during it. Not a big deal but definitely didn't help after the bad haircut. read more

DO NOT GO TO FLOYD'S - SAVE YOUR MONEY!!! AND YOUR HAIR!!! Hello, First let me say that I never ever leave reviews (so this isnt just some angry person who always leaves bad reviews) - this was so bad I just had to do it. I have received 3 haircuts at Floyds since moving to Chicago in May of this year, with each haircut getting successively worse and worse until the one I received today, which is the worst haircut I have ever received. The first comment I got on my haircut today was "wow, it looks like you went to a training school to get a haircut, and a really really bad one at that. That is going to look so bad when it starts to grow back [referring to my completely butchered hairline]" If individuals are going to hold themselves out as being good at a taper fade, let them at least be competent at it. My hairline has been ruined (taken back way too far), its not straight or symmetrical, and there is no fade - it goes from bald to dark hair. I never leave reviews or provide feedback, but I have been getting my haircut the exact same way for almost a decade, and this is by far the worst experience I have ever, ever had. I'm not sure how my hairline is going to grow back, and I may need to shave my entire head and start over after working on this hairstyle for 10 years. To make matters worse, I was told the haircut would be free because of the terrible mistake. When I get to the counter though, with the barber who cut my hair standing next to the checkout, I am told I owe $35. What? So Floyds holds themselves out as best in class, charging really high prices for "precision" haircuts, and then you completely ruin my hairline, promise a free cut, and then proceed to charge me for it? I will never return to Floyds ever again, and will make sure to tell all my friends and family never to go to Floyds. This is not acceptable. It was literally amateur hour. That would be fine if Floyd's didn't pretend to be best in class, but because you do, it makes this all the more pathetic. Literally Supercuts would have done a much better job, in half the time, and for a third of the price. And they don't pretend to kick ass. They know they don't. Never again. read more

I go to this Floyd's for every haircut because of my stylist 'jlo' who cuts my hair there, he's great. He is always on time and ready, he listens well to what I like to do with my hair, and he just puts in the care to make sure I'm happy with my haircut. Joe G is the guy to go to if looking for a good fade. This is my 2nd cut w him, and plan to keep seeing him. I showed him a picture of what I was looking for, and he was able to do that and also suggested a couple additional things which ended up looking great. Made another appointment today and made sure to show up early for my appointment, after waiting fifteen minutes past my appointment time I walked out of there and went to a barbershop with better service. EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED!!! I want to start by saying that i was a loyal happy customer (see my previous review) but today's experience at Floyds has me raging like never before. So i came this afternoon around 2 pm looking to get a haircut and i was greeted by the manager who was very nice and helpful. She asked me if i had an appointment which i didn't to which she said it wasn't a problem and she told me she would get someone to get my haircut done. She went and got someone named Tyler who maybe he was on break or something but seemed less than happy to assist with the cut. He said 2 words and than proceeded to show me to the chair. He wasn't wearing an apron (strike one, but at the end his decision i guess) and was visibly upset at god knows what. He asked if i wanted to get the shampoo today to which i replied "let's do it, why not!" To what he replied "what, what you say" in an annoyed way. He proceeded to place the plastic cape thing without the neck paper (strike 2) protection and the nightmare started. He proceeded to bury the clippers in my skull. After he got done with that, he messed up my haircut and tried to fix it by styling it with the blow dryer to only burn my skull and hair. I also asked for the sides to be "faded" and he ignored my ask (see pictures) After all this, i was charged $35.00 As a professional in streeterville, i will never go back and will never recommend to my associates. read more

My boyfriend and I stopped by around lunchtime without an appointment. He needed a haircut before traveling to Michigan. He was seen within a few minutes by Cassidy. He has longer, curly/wavy hair that can be problematic but that was a non-issue for them. He got an amazingly handsome haircut and a relaxing, pleasant experience. I can't stop looking at him! My family and I were in town for the weekend and I felt I needed a beard trim to clean up me face. I walked in 15 minutes before they were supposed to close. This was not a problem, they got me right in. Granted, Beard trims typically don't take that long. My barber did not rush at all and he did a great job. $26 for a men's haircut? NOT BAD! Well, considering I was paying $27 at my previous spot plus public transit fare out n back and travel time. I will glad come to Floyd's again for it's price point and walking convenience to my apartment. Anyways, came by for a cut and clean up. I've recently shied away from comb overs, undercuts, man buns, etc as it seems everyone and their mother has the same style now a days. My stylist Marinell did a great job of blending/fading out my previous disconnect that I had and trimming the top and texturing it out as I had requested. And now, I've got a nice low maintenance cut that I can style up, down, or to the side as I please. I'm super happy with how the cut turned out and how clean the fade was! If it's your first time at a Floyd's location, they do offer to shampoo your hair for you for free after the cut so that you leave the spot looking all fresh and clean. Anyways, I will definitely be back in the future. Be sure to call ahead to schedule an appointment to minimize the wait time. 'Til next time, cheers! read more

Decent haircuts, poor management. This is the second and final time I've walked out for being deceived about wait times. The first time I was a walk-in, knowing so, I asked what kind of wait there was, and was told "someone will be right with you." 20 minutes into the wait I approached the antendant to ask how much longer she thought the wait would be. She was defensive and deflective, finally saying "ten minutes or so." At that point I realized no one was going to be "right with me" and I left. I decided to give them another chance, since I'd been a walk-in, and made an appointment. I even called to confirm my appointment. 20 minutes after my appointment time had come and gone, watching other customers that had just arrived being seated, I realized, once again no one was going to be "right with me." The sad part is, I would have switched barbershops a while back... But Streeterville is a barber desert. These guys really have a captured audience. Going in for haircuts had become a habit of prepping for disappointment. I was never completely happy after I got one. I had gotten used to just walking out being content that it was over and had given up on ever having a great haircut and style. Then I met Lauren B. ....Floyd's 99 couldn't have a better representative of their brand. I had the bad luck of visiting this location today. They scheduled a time for me and I waited patiently. When the time came for my appointment, and passed by I waited for fifteen minutes. During this time I was not acknowledged, as customer service by this staff is a afterthought. When I finally approached the attendant, she was rather rude and flustered. She made rather timid excuses, and tried to blame me. I asked her how much longer and she said one or two ahead of you. She refused to give me a straight answer, is it one of two. I sat down and waited some more, at this point it's thirty minutes past my appointment. With no apologies, or acknowledgment I left the establishment. Pretty disappointed with son's haircut this afternoon . I asked for her to trim it a bit but to leave it as a shaggy look. She cut wayyy too much and then he only had long sideburns on the side. I mentioned this to her and asked to then see it styled. She threw deep conditioner on his hair and literally TUCKED the sideburns to the back. So he essentially received a short haircut which I told her I didn't want and now he looks like I someone chopped his hair and forgot the sideburns. Her response was "well anything longer would look the same as he walked in, I'd just tuck the sideburns behind the ears" seriously? This defeats what I asked for. Lol. Biggest issue above that was that my son was afraid of the hair dryer and when I told her he was afraid she kept going and said "he'll be fine just a bit more" I should have known better when I saw her bangs were uneven under her beanie. This location is trash! yesterday i received one of floyd's secret service!!! i got an eff you we don't want your business haircut from Jackie (who I had NEVER met), and we will not tell you what you did to piss us off before cutting your hair. and you wont see the stylist you requested. you will see a different stylist who will refuse to listen to what cut you want at the time of service. this new stylist will keep telling the customer/you about the stylist's note from the last visit. it will be all, damn what you want today - we will cut your hair according to notes from 4 weeks ago. can you imagine a service provider telling you to stick to a script? the service was free when i made it clear i was not going to pay full price for the haircut and thank goodness because after washing my afro at home and seeing all the unevenness - i can confirm, i pissed somebody off. i do want to give staff and myself credit for not yelling or using profanity during our conversation!!! and after all, i got a free lining. read more

I have tried most barber shops in the River North/Gold Coast area and refuse to go anywhere else now that I've found Josephine here at Floyd's Streeterville. I am pretty particular about my hair and generally find someone and stick with them as long as I can. Josephine is my new victim. Her attention to detail, personal sense of pride in her work, and downright fun personality is what will keep you coming back. Considering you're trapped in a barber's/stylist's chair for 30 minutes every few weeks, I'd imagine you're looking for someone you can have a good conversation with, in addition to that top tier haircut. Having been in the business for quite some time, she knows her stuff and has likely seen anything you can throw at her. I highly recommend going to this location, ask for Josephine. read more

First bad haircut here. Normally everybody is great. I had an appointment, she was on her phone twice during our appointment talking about when she would be finished. I asked for short on the sides and back and an inch off of the top. She proceeded to use clippers to buzz the back and sides, and must've spent 10 mins just doing that, going over it like 20 times just to eat up time or something. She got to the top of my hair and must've done a total of like 10 clips with the scissors. Not sure if she doesn't know how to cut men's hair, or if she was just in a hurry to get the hell out of there. While I was paying she had her coat and was out the door. Wish I hadn't tipped but I was in the service industry for a decade and it's just instinct. If you aren't booking an appointment with Tojuana, you're slacking. I had my first experience at Floyd's with her yesterday and she gained a customer for life. She listened to everything I said I wanted, gave feedback and recommendations, faded me like a champ and styled my hair phenomenally. I'd go back every day just to have her wash my hair. No joke, best shampoo and condition I've ever gotten in a salon/barber. As someone who is very picky, has been to several salons and paid obscene amounts of money for cuts, I can absolutely say I'm glad I woke up feeling like a dumpster yesterday so I had the opportunity to come here. Tojuana, you the best, boo! See you in two weeks! P.S. I see some reviews about long wait times for walk in customers. Couple things; Firstly, a quick hair cut probably means you're getting a half-assed, rushed cut that isn't going to look good. They take their time here and that's a good thing. Their Apple Pay scanner wasn't working properly (I always pay by Apple Pay at this location) and the front desk accused me of not having legit cards/money. I asked her if I could go grab my wallet and come back to pay by card (going out of my way here) but she said no unless I leave some collateral. LOL are you kidding me? Like I'm gonna dine and dash on a 30 dollar haircut at this age. She wouldn't believe that the scanner could be busted and accused me of having invalid cards. Then she restarted the scanner and it took my Apple Pay as it should have to begin with. is this seriously how you treat a customer of 3 years? Girl bye. read more

I don't usually post reviews but this experience was so bad that I don't have a choice. My boyfriend asked for a specific cut with a middle part and long hair, and they literally chopped ALL his hair off and gave him a military cut. He has been growing out his hair for 6 months and was very excited to get a haircut and have a professional style it. He came home with his confidence completely shot. Hair is such a big part of your face and your look. If you can't do the haircut just admit it, take a seat, and let someone else do the job. The barber had to call another barber over to get directions, and when he wasn't able to follow the directions, he just completely gave up and gave my boyfriend a military cut lol. He was also complaining the whole time about how long this haircut was taking, and that he was going to miss his lunch??? What an absolute joke. Why not just admit that you can't do this specific cut instead of knocking down someone's confidence and making them feel ugly - 0/10 super unprofessional. read more
