So my review will be basic. I've been here about 4 maybe 5 times. I've gotten basic service every time nothing special. Special would be remembering my name or how I like my hair cut. I've even gone as far as to hand full control of my style over to no avail. My previous barber of 12 years retired and is no longer able to cut hair. By my third visit she knew what I wanted and constantly made recommendations. I've been to the location in Frisco twice and the gentleman there recognized me the second time I walked in and was making recommendations and absolutely took control of my style. Letting me know what HIS plan for my style was. Owning it. The only reason I switched was because I got amazing service there and I thought it would carry over to the location close to me. Such was not the case. Definitely a chill environment. Maybe too chill. But you don't go for the environment I guess. At the end of the day I guess the only thing they did wrong was not make my service personal, I was just a chair. Hopefully the other stylist is still employed. Short and sweet: It's no secret I've got cancer. Chemo took its toll on my hair and I decided to go here because it was up the street. Walking in with huge bald patches makes you feel awful but they guided me back and allowed my girls to watch me as my stylist took it all off. They kept giving me thumbs up signs and cheering me on. I know it's "just hair" but there's an emotional attachment involved. My stylist was so kind and asked me if it was okay if she rinsed it so get off all the hair and did such a careful and gentle job. I went to pay and they said "no charge" and that the pleasure was all theirs. In this day and age where we Yelp and deduct stars for the smallest of things, I'd really like to award 10 stars to this place for not judging me and making me feel empowered instead of broken on my very worst day. read more

My haircut was with Alejandro. And the only reason I booked the schedule is because it was on short notice or I would've never even attempted to book it, last time I got my haircut at this location. My hair was botched, and I had to go to Allen location to have a professional fix it. I sat outside from 8:28 PM until 9 PM. To realize these dudes really did the most unprofessional thing you could do. Dude you take way too long on a haircut for the results that come from the time spent. Unprofessional. I promise if you were the last option in the world I wouldn't get my haircut anymore. Stay away from McKinney Floyd's. Go to Allen. It's night and day difference. read more

Felt very "selected" at my visit today with my son. We are of cultural mix (African American/Caucasian) with a mixed curl (not coarse at all..texture). We watched 3 kids come in before us and they were able to cut their hair with no appointments. I then saw the hostess mouth to the other one about cutting " that kind of hair" nonetheless I am disgusted that this is still going on in 2024 and he is a 4 year old that is well behaved. Before I start, I never post reviews unless the business is extremely awesome or so terrible I need to warn others about it. This was the worst visit I've ever had to a Floyd's barbershop if not the word barbershop visit I've ever had in general. I would be doing anyone a disservice by recommending this place for a haircut. I called ahead to ask if there were any more time slots for a basic men's haircut today before close, and the only answer I got was that they had walk in availability. In my past experiences with Floyd's and this location specifically I've been able to walk in, be seen in about 10-15 minutes, get a great haircut with a great barber, pay a decent price and get on with my day. So I wasn't too worried about being a walk in. I come inside, the receptionist is sitting behind a half wall on her phone on a chair, and no-one is available for a minute. There were only 2 "barbers" on at the time, and they both had people in their chairs. I finally got in line with the waitlist and sat down for the wait. 10 minutes passed, 15, 20, 30, 45. I got tired of waiting and had to be somewhere so I stood up and walked back out to my car to leave. As I got to my car and was looking on the gps to find a more competent and well staffed barbershop, I got a call from the barbershop that they could see me now. I got out of my car and headed back inside where I was greeted by the receptionist, and someone who had rubber gloves on for some reason like she had just finished scrubbing a bathroom before coming out to cut hair. I got sat, Gave an accurate and short description of what my normal haircut is, and started the process. After a while the "barber", who had been watching a literal YouTube video on her phone while cutting my hair stopped and asked a few questions about how I wanted a part, and some other things. (Note that I never mentioned a part and no other "barber" has ever had to clarify that point). I also point out that there are two points in my hair that looks absolutely ridiculous and jut out way too far, and the lady asks if I wanted those to "curve in". OF COURSE I want those "curved back in", like any competent barber would have known. I don't need to be looking like Wolverine coming out of the barbershop. Anyways, she "fixes" my hair, then proceeds to give me a neck shave that I did not ask for (for extra money kind you) and finally finished up. She gave me a mirror to look at the back and as I look I'm shocked at how bad it looks. There are no clear lines at all, it's cut unevenly, and it's buzzed almost up to the top of my head which looks ridiculous. I'm not sure if I should have expected any better from someone who wore dish gloves the whole time they cut my hair, but that's what I got. Anyways, since you can't add hair back on once it's cut off, I decide to just leave before I get any more up charges or damages to my appearance. I go to pay and their payment methods aren't working. (To be fair, this is partly due to some power outage issues they had a few minutes prior, which I can't judge them for.) and eventually have to let them take my card number down and get charged that way. This was the absolute worst spend of practically $45 I've ever spent. I could have at least burned my money and come away looking better than I did from here. I used to love this location, the atmosphere, and the people. Now the very owner of Floyd's Barbershops couldn't pay me money to get a haircut there. The only comfort I have is knowing that my hair grows back fast and will allow my hair to recover from this absolute dumpster fire of a visit. It's worse than a dumpster fire, it was like a dumpster caught on fire and rolled into the freeway causing a 20 car pileup, absolutely horrendous and every worker there should be ashamed to have their name associated with this business. As I was leaving, I even noticed the "barber" who cut my hair didn't even have a barber's license or cosmetology license either on display or in their possession at all!! Charging me nearly $50 and then asking for a tip on top of all of that was absolutely criminal and I will never return or recommend this place again. read more

Floyd's review I made an appointment and got in the same day. I got referred to this company by a person I know. And it was one of the best, coolest, best work I've ever had done on my hair. Fact: because of my work, my hair is the only styling I get to do and the most important part that gets presented and shows who I am. So I make sure my hair is always at its best. The stylist who styled me was Marissa! She's amazing in so many ways. She was funny. She held so much knowledge about styling, cosmetics, and cutting. Marissa was wonderful about keeping a conversation going, whether it was her own family, a general subject, work, or talking about my hair. I loved talking with her for the small amount of time I had. She made me feel comfortable that I was in good hands and gave me tips to keep up my hair. Service. The receptionist was nice upon my entering the shop. She took my temperature. Made sure I brought and wore a mask inside and had chairs 6 feet apart. Inside. I was freaked out in a good way! Posters on the wall. Good vibing music. Not your average shop, but there was so much to look at. Felt like everything was accepted and joined together. Money. Base price (for a guy at least) started at $25. It wasn't terrible, as a did also give a tip. I normally try to stay under $20, but don't regret emptying my pocket for this hair cut! read more

My wife brings my son to get his haircut typically, so I haven't had too many experiences, but she felt it was my turn to take my son in since I had such a strong opinion about his last haircut (I should have shut up). My wife directed me to Floyd's 99 Barbershop. By the name alone, I was underwhelmed and didn't' want to go, but my son was excited to have me there. From the moment I walked in, I realized this was not your everyday barbershop, this place was different; it was special. Lets talk about the decor, it's like an old record store with album covers and original artwork on the way. My son pointed out his favorite pictures quickly; there were many. They had great music playing covering many genres, but it wasn't so loud that it was distracting. Pure awesome sauce. The first thing I do is watch the customers and the way they are treated. This place felt like a small barbershop with family and close friends. Even my son was known and in my 10-15 minute wait, he was acknowledged by several people that work there. The place is clean and the attitude at the front desk was perfect. When the barber came to the front to take us back, all I saw were happy faces of customers having conversations with barbers. The woman that cut my sons hair was really nice, as was the woman cutting the hair of the gentleman next to us. Matter of a fact, even the gentleman getting his hair cut by someone else was nice. Again... family... The woman didn't just cut my sons hair, she took extra care to make sure it was to both our satisfaction. I was very impressed with the attitude and attention to detail. My husband loves coming to Floyd's and they do a decent job at cutting his wonky hair. If the stylist is a total noob, he ends up with a boxy look towards the top but so far, every person he's seen has been able to "tame the square." Even when his styles have changed, they still do an excellent job at giving him exactly what he wants, even if he can't think of the proper name of it. It's also cool that they do beard trimming/shaping, sometimes with a straightedge if they're trained on that, so having that service every so often is great, according to him. Appointments are highly recommended otherwise you can expect a painfully long wait. Inside, the place is pretty chill with a rocker vibe. They've got rock playing over the speakers (too loudly) and the walls are covered in rock gods so it's a nice time-killer to check out the posters on the wall if you're waiting for a while. 1 criticism is that they need to expand their waiting area. We showed up at 11am on a Sunday and within 10mins, I was squished between 2 wide-shouldered dudes while waiting on my husband to finish getting his haircut. All of the seats were taken and people were still coming in for walk-in cuts. Moving on. Personally, I find the price point to be a bit much. It seems like they up the cost so you cover their music subscription, but I guess that's just Floyd's. You pay for ambiance! read more

I'm completely done with this place. I have 3 kids and my haircut that's a total of 4 haircuts monthly at least just for my family. Every time I walk in I feel like I ruined their day and am such inconvenience, and my kids are not the kind that kick and scream when they get their haircut. I always tip each stylist that cuts everyone's hair. This last time we waited for at least 45 minutes and saw at least 4 other customers taken ahead of us, one that walked through the door and went straight to a chair. I understand that some may have been appointments, but c'mon! So tired of the attitude and being treated like we are a burden. read more

They cancelled my appointment that I had had for 4 days, even after I called to verify my appointment 30 minutes ahead of time. Granted, I was 8 minutes late on an icy Saturday morning, but I have previously had to wait much longer than 8 minutes for my appointments in the past. Was told by the "Manager" that she could get me another stylist immediately, but she then backtracked and said that I would still have to wait. Was given the cursory apology and she went back to cutting hair. Too many tatted-up kids running this place, who don't understand the etiquette of honoring a verified appointment. This is not the high-end kind of place that they promote and they keep raising their prices too. Never going back....and personally told them so! My poor/one star review of Floyd's, on Yelp, has since received a response from a Jake A., listed as Business Customer Service. If you are familiar with Floyd's Barbershop you know that they ask you for your telephone number for each appointment. Instead of personally calling me to apologize and further seek information about my recent substandard experience with their McKinney, TX store, this individual chose to provide another lip-service apology online, for all to see, while asking ME to respond to some "generic" email address that does not appear to be his own. I rest my case regarding the operations of this company! And BTW....this is not to be construed as an invitation to now call me. You had a second opportunity to make this right and still got it wrong. I am now assured that I have absolutely no further desire to give Floyd's Barbershop(s) another dime of my money, and my family and I will never step-foot in one of your stores again. We came here after going to a sports clip and my husband getting a terrible haircut that wasn't even faded. We asked them if they could help us without charging us for a full haircut since we already spent $30 at SC. They offered to fix it for the cost of a buzzcut which was really nice. My husband got Felicia and she immediately got to work. Did more than she needed to and even shaved his neck. She wasn't distracted and she made sure she was understanding what he wanted. He walked away with a great haircut and Felicia's business card. She did such a wonderful job that he feels comfortable enough to go back to her next time.
