She had 2 steak tacos, I had steak taco and junkyard taco with an AMAZING Blood Orange Margarita. Their chips and salsa were so delicious and fresh, we were almost too full after ordering the table side guacamole for appetizer. Typical Mexican menu, not pet friendly. Food usual, drinks at $11-&12 & up no alcohol or bottom shelf alcohol is poor business practice. So just paying those prices for nothing but hey it is a chain restaurant. Bar looks like you would get a good quality liquor but nope. The one thing that really aggravated me & I didn't realize it until rechecking the bill once I was home, was the waiter billed us for 3 steak tacos when we ordered 2 & only received 2. Here's the real klinker, really annoying a $1.75 for a side of Aji Verde!!! There couldn't have been 2 tablespoons full in that tiny bowl. There were many fun choices on the menu. I decided to go with a spread of baja fish tacos, steak tacos and crispy pork tacos. The baja fish tacos were my favorite... generous portion and quite tasty. Steak tacos were in second place. Beef had that seared flavor but was still tender. The peppers gave it quite a kick, and I like spicy food. You've got to try the blood orange margarita. It's delicious, and my favorite margarita on the menu. Try one... or 3. My top 3 items on the menu, other than that delicious margarita, are the carnitas taco, the queso blanco, and the guacamole. The carnitas taco is a winner because, duh, carnitas. I've heard so many great things about this place and went to try it out. Not good at all. Ordered chicharrones with guacamole as an appetizer and they gave four little pieces and not at its value. The guacamole was salty. Then ordered a mahi fish taco and they gave half of a half or a filet. Brandon, our server who was great fixed that for us. Then ordered the carnitas taco and that was disgusting. They were not carnitas but pulled pork. The pork was also salty. The beers took forever to come out. We just gave up and left hungry. Hands down one of our favorite spots, a place we visit regularly. When we re-located down to this area a few years ago and discovered Flying Iguana pretty early. And it's been amazing. In a area where most restaurant are located in a strip mall, this is a welcomed relief. Personal favorite: Steak taco's! Get at least one EVERY single time. Spicy and seasoned perfectly. Love these. Guacamole, made table side, is a pre-meal must! Drinks are great, my wife loves the margarita's. Full bar with live music on occasion. Parking: It can be a pain, but if you're eating at Flying Iguana's, valet parking is free! Post meal, take a stroll on the beach to burn off some of those delicious calories. They have happy hour margaritas, and various drink specials...but they unfortunately don't have a "taco Tuesday" menu which SUCKS. Not sure how you can be a taqueria and not have a taco Tuesday menu. Lol. One thing that I do like..is that you can get tacos individually. Most places sell them by the 3. Here, you can get them separately. I went this past Sunday night as well and my experience wasn't all that pleasant..I'll tell you why. I'm pescatarian, and i arrived maybe 10 mins after they migrated to the late night only menu. There are no seafood options on there at all..your best bet is to get a quesadilla and if you want you can add chicken, beef or steak, but no shrimp or fish. I asked the lady if I could possibly get a shrimp taco, or even a small shrimp added to my quesadilla and she said "I Can ask but they will probably say no...Im almost sure they will". Her negative stance led me to believe that she didn't even ask..but she came back and said "yep, they said no". That turned me off...because I felt like that wasn't really accommodating. However I did get a bowl of guacamole and enjoyed that. Hopefully in the near future, they add shrimp at least..to the "late menu" read more

Why 5 stars? Because the guac alone is worth 10. --- --- --- Visiting The Flying Iguana was my first experience seeing the Neptune Beach area and it was a good one! I only wish I also had time to dip my toes in the sand, but I prioritized tacos over leisure, because obviously I was there for serious business. I really enjoyed all aspects of my visit - from the food, to the service, to the ambiance. When we arrived at noon on a Monday, we pretty much had the place to ourselves, which was surprising. But by the end of our meal, the restaurant had plenty of other patrons. Despite that, the quality of our service remained very high throughout our stay. As for the food, we started off with some tableside guac, and I will just say it now: the Neptune Beach police need to enforce a law that it is illegal to come here and not do that. I could not stop dipping my chips into this avocado-based heaven from the moment it arrived at the table. The chips were equally perfect and definitely of a higher quality than one might be used to seeing at similar Tex-Mex establishments. I ended up ordering three tacos as my entree: The Junkyard (fried chicken), the Steak and the Scallop. The Junkyard was a recommendation from Yelp Jax celeb, Matt C, and he was dead-on the money with that rec. The other two were solid, but I'd probably opt for some alternatives on a future visit.
